The guys at Portal Versus got some hands on time with Street Fighter X Tekken and posted some impressions from the Brazil Game Show. It's in another language, but the Shadowloo crew provided a translation to look over. Here's a snip from the latter article.
Game engine
- The damage system still needs many adjustments.
- Crouch Tech Works.
- Option Select Works.
- He was using Plinks in all of his combos. He isn’t sure if they work or not, but the combos were coming out just fine.
- He was able to safe jump some characters of the cast (Sagat).
- The games has a rolling system for techable knockdowns.
- The moves that have charging properties, can be cancelled into dash.
- The Tekken roster seems to have a fireball dodging mechanic.
- There are links in the games, but they are different from Sf4.
- The tag cancel system seemed a little weird on block. As an example he mentions that a blocked Hp Srk from Ryu that was tag cancelled wasn’t safe. The opponent can reverse Srk and it will hit both characters.
- The mashing system is just like Sf4, the reversal window is huge.
- The Chain Combos (Cross Rush) aren’t cancelled into special moves, only in Super Moves like Super Art or Cross Art.
Tip from Brazilanubis3.
Well, Tekken Characters having fireball dodging mechanics. Ok, that's what's up. But yea I do agree on the damage system.
I know this is a pre-alpha version, but I'm guessing this game just lost a lot of hype for not being the 'professional' SF game people appeared to be wanting.
@7
Who thought this was going to be a "professional" SF game? It's a versus game. We had this conversation a long time ago Master.
No matter how good this game turns out, it will NOT replace SF4 as the premier Main Event Title! Only SF5 will have that honor.
SFxT will be a great game and it looks like a ton of fun. But it's still a Versus title.
SF 1vs1 will always top a versus game.
@9: I sorta see what you mean, but with Ultimate Marvel 3 looking like even more of a clusterf*ck, AE 2012 putting bandages on a missing arm, and this game looking like MUGEN with all the insane mechanics and absurd damage output, things have to drastically change for the future to stop looking so grim.
"a blocked Hp Srk from Ryu that was tag cancelled"
Wait, wait, wait, let me get this straight. Ryu, or presumably any SFer with a DP or DP-like move can mash it out at random, and tag cancel on BLOCK? I mean it's great that the tag cancel is unsafe and both characters get hit on punish. But still, tag cancelling on block is incredibly dumb. It may be unsafe now, but I guarantee people(probably scrubs) will try and find ways to make it safe. It'll be like SF4 all over again where people can play sloppy and mash out a random DP or whatever, get it blocked/whiff it, and mash MP+MK to save themselves and get away with it.
Hope it gets removed.
@11 ummm you do know you can FADC a HP SRK on block as well.... lol
@ fuhajin:
Well...while it is true that you can save your drawers in sf4 if your DP is blocked via fadc, it costs meter. And that's assuming it's blocked. If it whiffs, you get molested. So this SxT thing is in no way a repeat of SF4
plus also @11 see this person capcom DONT LISTEN TO HIM HE MAKES YOUR GAMES BAD
so this is an even dumber downed version of sf 4....
everyone has dive kicks and its still just as easy to mash
and now their is no link timing ( or its "different" which i assume is meaning easier and more like that terrible mvc3 game)
definate pass on this game gl everyone else
all the crap i didnt want in sfxtekken was just confirmed. we already have abc combos but he needs to have mashable dp's with huge reversal windows on top of that? And of course os throw teching remains in the game, because it was already said that the throws in the game suck(which is hard to believe since sf4 throws are terrible)but now u need to keep the easy mode techs too?
Ono please, stop with the casual crap. Those casual players are people that dont even buy the game, they play at a friends house for 5 mins and are done. And then we have the other players that become interested in the game and as soon as they start learning the game the baby mode crap does nothing but hurt them/get in the way in the long run.
chickenwings for once i agree with you ,
causal gamers become in-depth gamers after they get hook but ono and nitsuma believe that they need to make everything so watered down that skill means very little as to not intimidate anyone , these games are becoming like WII games .
umvc3 looks like a party game and this game might be aswell...
In other words, they took the BS from SF4 and transferred it over to SFxT. I guess I'll stick to watching the new Capcom games on streams instead of playing them.
despite all the negativity all you hardcore fans are giving making things easier ensures more people will play it and further sales. So go ahead and don't buy and post things about how money hungry capcom is despite having more people who will be able to enjoy the game rather than only the elite.
Still a bit early yet, things will change.
Waiting for a couple of my faves to enter the frame :)
This game is missing Elena and Eddy/Christie. That's all :D
@11 Thats not playing sloppy, thats playing smart. Finding ways to make your character safe is the essense of Street Fighter. Finding out how to exploit that is the counter tactic. The only argument is how to balance it so it's not completly free.
Still, this game is still early in development. Any thing can change.
Mashing on block... no thx im going to main KoF13 i'll see yall on Orochinagi.com
Numbers equal more games more fun more variety I like SF MVC Whatever what is this perfect fighting game people think that's out there because every game apparently is broken or crap or they hate this or whatever listen easy mode games are ok to make Because i do know casual people who bought SF4 they liked the moves characters and graphics hey I don't care regardless this is gonna if nothing else be a great party game co-op street fighter sick if you want competitive play stick to SSF4 it ain't going nowhere
And I know people have watched gameplay videos in here and all I ever hear is this game looks sick now all a sudden no one likes it because they read words on their computers cmon this sounds like the most unloyal group of "hardcore fighters" I have ever heard of
No seriously though if you want some good laughs you gotta go into the poison gender article comment section...pricelss
@getdownbrown
I think you're missing the point.
People are complaining because the game mechanic analysis is dubbing the gameplay scrubby.
Maybe you think it's fun to mash DP for free but some gamers would like more strict elements to seperate the casual from the hardcore.
"why would you want that? We should be a whole."
That is true, but how you would you feel if you took time out to learn a game only to lose to someone who has no idea what Negative Edge is?
How you feel if you lose to someone who doesn't know what a buffer is?
Dumbing fighting games is what makes that possible.
Look at MvC3, X-factor fills in so much of a skill gap between players that it's redundant to learn combos and MUs when you can just Die and 8-hit combo an entire team ftw.
@lyn I understand alot of peoples arguments but we as fighting game fans need to look at the bigger picture games like MVC3 and SFXT say it is dumbed down but it sells well now in the future capcom can take alittle more risk with future games maybe we can get a new darkstalkers because those games opened Alot of new people to the genre games like them remaking 3S which has a very high entry barrier maybe a CVS2 remake or better CVS3 but because sales are good because now more people can actually play they can produce more of the games fighters love and co-op SF for the love of good a drunken blast bring a friend : )
Looks like 3sOE is going to be what I play until next year. Maybe I should seriously pick up SF2. It'll be new and not full of the same head scratching bs as SF4, but full of the crazy OS everything pressure bs. SF4 mechanics are terrible and should never be used again. Too bad they are going to be the standard for casual fighting games from here on out.
Are people really complaining about the mechanics of SF4? That game is the reason we're all here talking about SfxT, MvsC, KOF13 and MK9!
You can thank SF4 for all of those games.
Is the reversal window really that big of a problem for everyone? A few tips.
1) Don't drop your links! If they are trapped in hit stun they can't reverse $hit!
2) Identify the Masher! Really? You guys can't tell after two seconds who the scrubby DP reversal mashers are? No? Then you deserve to lose. Those wins should be FREE!
The Fighting Game scene is sooo strong right now! You know why? Because they didn't make 'Pro Mode Fighter 4'!
They made a game that Noobs could enjoy, AND Pros could play at a high level. This = Greater Sales!
I had this illusion that people posting here must be semi skilled at SF. I may have been mistaken.
I must have missed it at the last EVO when the good players all sat down and had a good cry about "Reversal Windows" and "Auto Correct".
You guys need to grow some nuts and stop complaining. Even Mario can be played at a High Level. So I'm sure SFxT will do just fine.
A touch of SF4 you say? I'm in.
@36 I love SF4 too but it dedinetly ain't the reason I'm talking about any of these games some of us have been playing fighters way way way longer than SF4 since the beginning of the dang creation of them (thank you by the way capcom)
@38
Yeah, me too. And we can thank SF1 and SF2! And yes, SF4 was responsible for the resurgence of the fighting genre. So you do owe SF4 for all of these great fighting games!
@36
Lol. No... Who was crying about that bro? I'm an American myself, and while we're (collectively) not as strong as Japan in SF I'd like to think we have some pretty strong players.
I was watching an interview with Seth Jillian and he basically said they are just trying out all types of crap to see what people like what works so these makes right now may be nothing at all like the final product they are going bananas with this one
Is the reversal window really that big of a deal? Ummmmm, yes it is. I should not have to try to bait reversals when I am doing block strings or comboing someone. The fact that the dominant strategy when you're getting pressured or COMBOED is to mash shoryu since auto-blocking and a huge reversal window handle the rest is freaking stupid. The fact that this happens to the pros and is actually a strategy should help you key in to how important is to the game.
People are missing the point, if you ask me.
If they didn't make the reversal windows so huge, then we wouldn't have to play around and wonder if our opponent is a masher or not. Then you have the advanced mashers who mash every once in a while because they know we'll catch on if they do it every time. Believe me, it happens. I've fallen victim to it quite a bit. I don't mind losing, but at least let me lose to someone who wasn't mashing.
And if I'm not mistaken, there are pro players that mash. I've heard about it, but I've not seen it. So that's only speculation. Still, it's gotta be pretty significant an element of fighting if the people who are supposedly the "elite" still use it. That's why I liked Third Strike. You can barely mash out on that game, and you get eaten alive for that accidental normal instead of your intended, no-brainer Shoryu.
They got alot to work out I'm sure it will be fine by release
@44
You shouldn't have to "Bait Reversals"? Why not? Baiting anything is a Major part of the Meta Game!
And no, you shouldn't have to Bait them during a "Block String" or while your "Comboing" them.
Why not? Because if it's a block string that you've PRACTICED you shouldn't be DROPPING it mid string!
And "Comboing" them implies that you've already hit confirmed into your combo right? How the Fu<k are you dropping combos so badly that people just uppercut you?
Semi pro tip:
Use the training room to get better at not dropping links and combos.
@ 36:
I agree completely! I use easy reversal mashing to my advantage. Not dropping links is easier said than done (especially in an online match), So I just bait the mash. Say I'm playing DUD vs a shoto. Most shoto players mash out DP after blocking a J.HK (business elbow), at which point I just dash back, watch them fly through the air like a jacka$$, then it's party time when they land...
@48
what u dont understand is that mashing should never be a good idea. In any other sf game it wont work and will most likely KILL U. And then u have to understand with mechanics like fadc u get something that is a win win(so u use bar, big deal). 1) its safe no matter what sinse u can fadc 2) it will eat up any throw mix ups and most importantly 3) it slows down or stops any offensive pressure. Now add the other casual assist features like os techs, auto block and backdashs(theres not one reason they should have inv frames) and u get a turtley game where only a small number of characters can actually apply a serious rushdown/mix up game and if u dig around u will see that this is the biggest complaint about sf4 since day 1 and i recall Ono saying that sfxtekken was meant to be alot more agressive then the sf4 games.
And like i said before, it does not help anyone and that goes from casual to advanced. True casual players will never really learn how to play so makeing it easier doesnt make a difference, they play at a friends/rent it, mash some buttons and there done. New players that are interested in really learning the game end up either learning about the mashing and get turned off or never really learn how to play sf. How do i know? put a sf4 player in front of super turbo and see how fast that confident look disappears when they cant mash there way out of trouble. ANd on the advanced lvl, well the fact that they mash says all u need to know and those are the guys that know there combos/block strings.
easiest way to make everyone happy. Have a simple mode and a normal mode like mvc3 and put all that casual stuff in the simple mode and make the normal mode the way it supposed to be, mash for.
''The tag cancel system seemed a little weird on block. As an example he mentions that a blocked Hp Srk from Ryu that was tag cancelled wasn’t safe. The opponent can reverse Srk and it will hit both characters.''
That's good, I like that. Means we actaully have to space it correctly instead of doing 1 bar FADC shoryukens the whole time (Not even 1 bar if you consider how fast you build bar)
Well im looking forward to this :D
@48/49
It's all good. Lol.
I suppose it all depends on what you think of mashing. Some people say that it's a good strategy. But at the same time, I think that a LOT of people aren't good enough to hit a link EVERY time. You have people that know how to plink and do one-frame links. Good for them. Me, myself? My execution is on point about 89% of the time. But I want to get better. But I don't want to sit in a training room. I want to play against human opponents.
So in my mind, it goes like this - Is my opponent trying to win by any means necessary (mashing), or are they trying to win by getting better? If it's A, I don't take them seriously. If it's B, then I truly give it my all. You can't complain if someone tells you their intentions up front. Still, it does make me laugh at how the mashers claim that they are "SO GOOD". Haha. The world is full of delusional people.
And as for pros that mash, they lose my respect. I know that doesn't mean much to them or anyone, but it's just what I feel. -Shrug-
I'm hoping that SFxT isn't going to be a masher fest. Mashing is the reason I stopped playing online and don't really practice or play seriously anymore. I pick Random and just...do whatever. Hoping that one of these games (Marvel, SFxT) gives me my fighting spirit back. If not? Guess it's back to adventure games I go. o_o
Eh... SFIV is what it is, and we all knew that SFxT was built upon that engine with "tweaks" here and there. Either you like it or you don't at this point; not really going to convince anyone that doesn't like the 4 series.
That said, *every* fighting game system on the face of the planet has some issue that can be abused, and soon after will be bitched about. The point is to work around it or learn what you can use in that system to your advantage. Large reversal windows aren't my favorite thing in the world by far, but if I'm using a character that can take advantage of it, trust me - I will.
(Provided I'm not playing Rose, at which point the word "Reversal" doesn't even [censored] apply... but that's another discussion.) ~_~
In any case, so far it's all sounding interesting to me, and it's a day one purchase anyway. At the very least, all this losing I'm doing in SFIV right now will actually come in handy, lol.
True. "It is what it is" is the best way to look at it.
Knowing me, I'm going to buy both SFxT and UMvC3. And I'm going to play them with my friends. And I'm going to beat them, because they think that they don't have to practice combos. They think it's one of those games you can press two buttons and be awesome. Even had a friend that believed that FADC was cheap. Uhhh....what? Lol.
But yeah. I watch EVO. Devastation. All that. And I, for the longest time, had dreams of sitting beside Daigo or Combofiend and running a set. But with how most of the casual community looks, I'll never make it. (I play Balrog. -Puts up the flame shield-)
Not to say that it's the community's fault. Just...my motivation is lacking because A) No tournaments come here, B) No one is around to teach me (Self taught for the most part. I watch matches to learn how to truly use characters to full potential), and C) My friends get pissed off when I try to play with them. They claim I'm just beating the brakes off of them. I'm just trying to train. And I hate online...so.. -Seems to be S.O.L.-
Back on topic, yeah...the game does look and seem interesting in a lot of aspects. But reading this particular set of news has put a few negative marks on the overall first impression I think I'm gonna get. We'll see..
@ BryKingBowser - I hear ya' as far as the online. If it wasn't for me finally taking the leap into the SRK community and playing on SRKlive, I'd probably not be playing much right now, lol. Still, as annoying as online can be, if you get the right group of people to play against regularly and combine that with training mode practice, I think it works well and helps you to improve... despite how wonky online can be at times.
And hey, it could be worse... the reason I stopped playing Tekken 6 is primarily because the online is pretty barf-worthy. It's hard to do a even a basic juggle in
a full second of input lag, lol... ~_~
I hate playing against people like that (FADC is cheap? el-oh-el). Usually when I see that happening, I just put in something else because it's not going to benefit them or me to to keep playing and force it. Likewise, if I see I'm playing a fighter I don't really care for, I'll grin and bear it for a while but I'm no longer to say "eh, this isn't for me broham."
It's always hard to find that happy medium where you have friends that play at a decently high level (or higher), and are also interested in playing the same game you are.
Best I can say is try to find local tourneys and such if at all possible (I'm getting back into the tourney scene with this and TTT2 myself). I ran into a few tourneys during my T5 time where the competition wasn't great at first, but then the number 1 player in the state would just randomly show up and kick everyone's, lol (he was a pretty cool cat, would actually sit with us after a tourney and teach my group of friend some things).
Eh, rambling now. Just keep playing. :-p
Mashing is the best way to make something come out sometimes. I'm sure we've ALL dropped a block string and been grabbed by a Gief or T.Hawk ultra 1. You can safely mash those ultras out, and all it takes is 1 free frame for them to come out. A smart player would know that that option is available to those characters, and will do whatever they can to avoid a situation where it could work. This is why people leave gaps in block string, will randomly backdash or jump in the middle of strings, etc. It's just a part of the game and it will be a part of SFxT. Just deal with it guys!
A lot of the griping about dumbing down fighting games and comparisons to MVC3 being so "scrubby" sound like they come from people who are just butthurt at losing online to some lag tactics. Or who aren't as good in a real fight as they think they are and can't counter entry level stuff.
Even pros who think vanilla MVC3 needed serious retuning didn't agree it was as "scrubby" as most who complain on net comments do.
Same with SFIV. For all the years of whining about how it's dumbed down, whining about reversal windows, etc, ain't no authentic scrub ever going to wind a single around against a good player. Sorry.
For the most part (emphasis on "most"), the increased accessibility of modern fighting games has only helped them and hasn't removed the possibility of high level play, or the more skilled player always winning. What it has done, though, is created a ton of bitching from people who talk like pros while only being mid-level players. Truly dominating in these games means being top tier and in the mid-range players still have the opportunity to not get totally dominated and thus discouraged from trying to get better.
"All new games are dumbed down" has just become a massive mental placebo, and dare I say it, a new scrubby refrain. People ought to be careful. Pretty soon the mark of a new scrub mindset is going to be complaining about reversal windows instead of just learning how to play the game.
That sounds mashtastic, cant wait for AE 2012.
Would like to see this on PC.
@61
seriously, if u cant see the negative impact on the casual non sense i cant help u. Like i said before, when high level players mash the whole scrubby thing doesnt apply since the game rewards it(when done correctly).
LMAO
Games have not been dumbed down...in fact its the opposite.
Execution on the other had has been more lenient but that is only to create an even playing field to reward SMART play not just rewarding people with better execution.
Street Fighter has always been a MIND GAME.
@61
"Because talking down on people who's explaining 'why' is just as acceptable as defending the problem at hand"
That's all I got from that.
The reason why people are complaining is because Ono and Niitsuma are "willingly" making everything plain out easier to do.
Why would a reversal window be out for so damn long as a reversal?
Why are blockstrings easily punished?
Human opponents drops combos and I get punished for double the damage my dropped combo COULD have done.
Yet, you have "scrubs" crying about Kazuya able to do Miststep in SFxT yet the same people are saying, "Pandora is too short to be useful."
You people don't know wtf you want.
While hardcore players want that reward for mastering the curve of "Entry Level" in fighting games.
Dunno why you'd need to plink anything, it seems like they've dumbed down the execution a lot like in MvC3.
