Devastation 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona has finished up. There were tournaments for Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, SSF2T HD Remix, Tekken 6, Mortal Kombat 9 and Soul Calibur 4.
So there's... multiple tournaments for the same game at the same event? Or is it like pools?
LMAO FilipinoChamp died because he tried to Xfactor during Black Magic which can cross up so SMH at him not comprehending the power of Dark Phoenix....to lose to a Arthur Ask not for pity of the Dark Phoenix FilipinoChamp....There is none here
We shouldn't be giving pity to a boisterous Phoenix player, but praise to an unknown Arthur.
Congrats, young squire.
Is there also a stream for the non fighting games? Mainly the shooters like gears and halo? Can someone please link them?
What a B*tch move by A rush tryint to take the dub over that..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0l9un...
Well.. it made me laugh anyway.
OMG VISCANT AND JAGO STOP JUDGING EVERYONES DECISIONS..THEY ARE PLAYING FINE YOU NUBS lol. They are acting like they know everything..''Why did that Arthur get away with that..UH...'' cause he's invincible during that move ... ><
Lol @ them being on the screen though after Jago dissed Viscant.
WTF is wrong with these Phoenix players??? EWW...oh but Flocker nice Jean Dark Phenix is Semi impressed...
how come eventhubs isn't putting the results on the page like they usually do?
Damn where did the MK fans go? 6000 on the Marvel stream, 800 on the MK stream.
#19: I don't play the game yet but I have a theory and I am curious if this is true:
The super of Arthur is so long that it lasts even after the frame of transformation of Dark Phoenix. When Phoenix turns to Dark, she is vulnerable for a few frames. During these frames, she cannot block the super.
NOPE False #30 I have had a few Arthurs try and chip me out when I go dark u simply block and Xfactor and continue to block but sometimes if u Xfactor durning Black Magic it has a Wesker Cross up effect and catches DP.... very Random but FP champ should have waited a bit smh
@34: I'm sure Wolfkrone has had offers from every sponsor out there, but maybe he just doesn't want to adhere to their terms...like travelling a lot (which he seems to do anyway), but also advertise them, speak to the media, etc. I'm sure there's a lot more to it, definitely not just getting free swag.
I can't stand MK. It's the only game that actually puts me to sleep (aside from sports games). Can't wait for AE and MvC3 where it actually matters.
lol where there is one good thing about MK and that CD Jr. Oh wait he wasn't there
Why do Combo and FChamp have to fight each other yet again!?
It's a shame that the Blablue scene is not important enough. That game deserves much much more exposure (at least much more than MK9 haha). It's as crazy as MvC3, but it's like the most balanced game ever, it's all about matchup knowledge. Also got the coolest characters, all of them as unique as it can get. I'm sad :(
By the way, anyone knows if BBCS:Extend will be a disk release? Or like CS2 dlc?
It sucks that Champ and Combofiend got matchedup. Odds were that someone would be matched with someone from their own team, but after Evo I don't think anyone wants to see these two fight again. I'd rather have seen Ricky and Justin or Champ and Mike Ross matched up.
That said, what is the top 8 in Marvel?
MK is pulling 7k views now, I guess I was wrong yesterday, I guess it still does have a fanbase.
@Bibuki
Thanks. I probably should've check SRK, but I've come to prefer EH. *Kanye shrug*
Hmmm, I want Combofiend to come out of that field, but you can never count out JWong, and Viscant with that Wesker/Phoenix team is always scary.
Who would you guys call the favorite in that field?
Didn't all you guys say that all the finals were going to be Yun vs Yun for AE? Are there any Yuns in the USA at all? Where are all the fei longs?
It's funny how the scrubs get their way :). If Yun was so great you would think there would actually be a SINGLE yun in this tournament.
lol latif fail to a person that doesnt even play ae anymore...stop playing online latif
@62
Back in Vanilla days, people said that Viper was one of the few characters that had damage output which closely matched Vanilla-Sagat's output.
Only different is that Sagat's damage output was nerfed pretty badly while Viper's stayed same.
@64
Yea this is pretty crazy.
SOOO much hate against Yun and SOOO little hate against C.Viper.
Congrats to Justin Wong fr taking this tournament home. Latif's cheerleaders were f-ckin ridiculous.
If people want to act like clowns such as Latif's cheerleaders were doing today, then someone should seriously put the camera right up into their faces and closely record the facial expression of each and every single one of them when they see Latif lost to Justin.
@71
I just find it funny how alot of the Viper hate started with Latif winning the SBO qual and then coming in second at Evo. It seems to me that people don't think characters are broken until they do well in tournaments, i.e. how Viper replaced Yang as the top 3 character in the game after no Yangs won but Vipers were winning.
More reason that, in my mind at least, player>character.
Combofiend at the end of the tournament: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npHDxS...
Shout outs to Lame storm and akuma for winning Devastation . Jwong is one lame a$$ mofo, watching his lame style tilted me :/
Justin WONG IS BACK!
wish justin wins like 2-3 more of these majors to solidify himself again as the king of fighting games in America.
I dont respect turtling and run away, and if u wan get bodied its INVADUR XBL :)
@83
better then Viscant with Wesker and Phoenix.
Viper isn't OP at all. You don't see anyone using viper and winning if they aren't a good player. Personally I consider an OP character to be easy to use with high damage. Viper is the opposite of easy and yes damage is great but people can't complain since high damage doesn't mean anything if the viper player can't execute the inputs perfectly.
#92 Overpowered should simply mean that a character is to good, has nothing to do with the learning curve.
But I do agree, I couldnt care less if Viper was SSSS tier since no one can fully master her anyways apart from a select few in the wurld lol.
CC Game tops tiers have recently been: Wesker..Wolverine..Phoenix..Yuns..Balrogs..Ryus..zangiefs..sagats (No particular version). All easy but great chars. I hate those type the most. But w/e
if anyone is allowed to be overpowered, it's VIPER in AE or MVC3 because she requires the highest level of execution in both games.
if you make Viper high execution and terrible at the same time, then you get Gen.
@ fireinthehole, Latif's cheering section was slightly annoying, but they're just supporting their home player. It's like that for everyone. If American players visit Canada and Japan for example, you better believe we'll have an obnoxious cheering section for the USA team. You'll also have all of Canada cheering for their teams. Hell, even Japan was cheering for their players pretty bluntly in EVO.
It's a combination of support and HYPE. Get with it.
So what happened between Jago and Viscant? I remember Jago was talking about bunch of trash on his show.
Can we please not have the sponsors in the battle log? It makes reading so much harder than it's worth. :P
Here come the viper haters. Who's winning with her since she's so OP? Random scrubs mashing DP's and dive kicks? NOPE. THE SAME PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN USING HER SINCE VANILLA, thats IT. There's no random scrubs tearing it up with Viper. Unless you're a scrub, you clowns are getting plowed by dedicated Viper players. GET OVER IT crybabies.
@106 what's to get? His jokes aren't funny, he can't back up his trash talk and he is never right lol. He needs trolling lessons. There are much better shows.
Justin Wong wins in SF4 tournaments because he is the only player that blocks on wakeup EVER :). Latif is good, but has terrible defense.
To the people who don't think that Viper is OP, you haven't played any good ones. This is the same with Yun: on these forums it's really doubtful that anyone has ever faced a top Yun player. Yun in the USA is a bottom tier character because he is too hard to use. If Yun remained un-nerfed, then in 2 years he would be strong in the USA similar to the way viper is. The Japanese top players were calling Viper upper/top tier in Super.
Again, in the USA, the tier list is completely different. Rufus is top, then Viper, Honda, Boxer, Guile and Sim. Watch any tournament and try and dispute it. Notice: no Cammy, Akuma, Yun, Yang, Fei Long, etc... Basically if a character requires tough links, you won't see them in the USA. This is why capcom is buffing the charge characters :).
@111:
You pretty much said it. I wouldn't say Yun is a really difficult character (at least not compared to how difficult he could be), but he has a lot of different combos and a lot of character specific stuff, and nobody is putting in the time with him. Also there's the fact that US players have too much pride to play S-tier characters or they just don't wanna learn new characters because of focusing on other games (like Justin Wong and Marn).
I remember that even in Super, the tier list from Justin Wong and other pro US players, considered Rufus and Abel the top tier characters. ( http://iplaywinner.com/news/2010/5/13... )
They were certainly good, but Fei Long, Guile and Balrog were probably the best in that game (I'm a Fei main myself, so I'm not really biased). I think people seem to forget how strong Balrog was, his damage was very good, and he was good both defensively and offensively.
And people also seem to forget that Fei had HK CW in that game, in AE it barely exists. The invincibility on that made it dangerous to try and attempt to throw Fei because of the risk of eating a full HK CW combo.
@111
I don't understand. So a character can't be OP unless the player is good enough to make them OP? Because that's what "if you don't think Viper is OP, you haven't played any good ones" sounds like to me.
In that respect, nearly every character in the game is OP because we've seen tons of players may them look broken. Sakura should be considered extremely OP after what Uryo did at GG4.
I'm just not understand what you mean by that. Of course the character is going to be good if the player using them is good. Or what am I missing?
@kdavis851 and any of the other crybabies. That is exactly what i am saying.
If it wasn't for players outside of the USA, there would be no S-Tier in Vanilla, Super, or AE at all. There were no top Sagat players in Vanilla. There were no top Cammy/Akuma/Fei players in Super edition; and even worse there are no top Yun/Fei/Yang players in AE.
There is no tier pride in the USA. There are plenty of Yun players, they just can't win. Justin, Ricky, Marn, Combofiend, etc... all said in different interviews that they were switching to Yun. None of them use him. I just think people aren't capable of winning with Yun in the USA. He is obviously much harder to win with than everyone has said.
Fact: you can only say that Yun is OP because of foreign players. If not, how would you even know he was good? He has absolutely terrible results in USA tournaments. I wish someone would post a stat of how many people enter tournaments with Yun and where they place.
Before Daigo uses Guile in Super, everyone in the USA says that Guile sucks. Listen to Seth Killian commentary in that Fight Club, trying to explain that guile is good; listen to the podcasts: lines like "Capcom really hates guile". Such a joke. These guys were making comments like this after using guile. Then Daigo uses him - and it's like OH NO NerfGuile :). The scrubs start crying and in AE guile gets 20+ nerfs. ROFL.
Everyone just gets on a bandwagon. Anything as an excuse to why they are losing.
Viper is very strong. The only reason people know this is because after a two years people in the USA are starting to use her very well. Mago and Daigo were talking about how Viper was one of the scariest characters in Super.... SRK Forums still have her at the bottom of the tier list, lol.
Justin Wong commentating was great. I think it was a really bad matchup to have him with Ultra david. Justin knows too much about fighting games for Ultra david to handle. Ultradavid keeps talking theory fighter, while justin lays down the realities of the game.
I hope they can let Justin commentate a lot more. James Chen can get really annoying when he keeps saying how much Cammy sucks, meanwhile, Justin is in loser's finals with Cammy...you would think he would change his mind a little.
@NerfGuile
I think there's been some miscommunication going on. During this thread, and my entire time being on the site in general, I've never called any character OP or broken or any other synonym or that word. I don't know what I said that made you think that I was calling Viper broken or whatever, but I wasn't. I actually explicitely said the oppostite earlier in the thread. So, I guess you misunderstood me or something.
What I was refering to was your statement saying that "if you don't think Viper is OP, you haven't played any good ones." To me, that sounded like you were calling Viper OP because you had played good ones. If that isn't the case, then that was a misunderstanding on my part.
In the end, as you said, we are saying the same thing. I don't think any of these characters are "broken" and neither do you. I completely agree with everything you said, and I have in other threads as well. There was just some miscommunication going on.
@kdavis, sorry about that; i didn't get what you were saying. My bad.
All i'm trying to get across is: In the USA, SSF4 AE is VERY balanced. The exact same players are placing in top 8 using the exact same characters (floe using Yang, but his Yang is not even close to japanese Yang). Viper is very strong now that the USA is catching up with Japan in using her - that is what i am trying to say.
FChamp lost to Abel and Honda (two characters that were nerfed) NOT Yun, Yang, or Fei. Two Rufus in top 8, with a Honda, Sim, etc... Looks like Super all over again. The game is actually going to get worse when the huge offensive nerfs go into effect because it's going to be down back at full screen again. :(.
To me, it seems like maybe we would need an update in 2014, when USA players actually learned how to use the more technical characters, if they ever learn at all. I still have never seen an Akuma from the USA use his vortex effectively. It's always wakeup or anti-air demon tactics with constant runaway air fireball.
I agree with NerfGuile, Yun and Yang are getting nerfed wayyy too hard... they aren't broken gods... we see them get bodied at tournaments all the time... yet they're getting nerfed into the ground
and yes James Chen is the most annoying whiner in the world. AE cammy > super cammy.
You're right NerfGuile, there isn't an American Akuma that uses the vortex effectively. But Clakey D's Ibuki takes advantage of her vortex game pretty well. But you're still right.
I hope that there isn't another update after ver. 2012. It makes me mad that AE wasn't even out 3 months before ver. 2012 was announced. I was had just started to feel like I was understanding the matchups before it was shot to hell. Not to mention the fact that I main Yang, so of course my complaints are more severe than other people's.
But either way, I'd like to have more time with the game. I think they should just let ver. 2012 rock for a while, and then put out SFV. I dog want another update to SFIV. 4 is plenty.
@117 @118. It might be wise not only to consider US tournament results into why some say Yun/Yang/Viper are OP. Check the results of SBO 2011 and then go watch the video of what FChamp and Mike Ross said about their experience on SRK. One of their statements was that Tier Levels are certainly different in Japan, but they are certainly relevant. Yun/Yang players were the most common in the top 8 in SBO 2011.
Also, see what they have to say about Japanese Players and their choice of Characters. Just because Yun\Yang are not used to the ultimate in the US, doesn't mean they aren't OP in Japan. Patches are applied because character(s) need fixes regardless of the region of the world, NOT just because they seem to be broken and/or balanced in a SINGLE region of the world. If Yun\Yang are OP in japan, (admittedly so by the Japanese players) that means you must apply a fix to the entire game, even if US players have not learned how to abuse the OP characters.
Awesome, finally something to watch.
