A short list of changes and new additions to the online aspect of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 were posted on Unity this evening. Here's a full run down of what players can expect.
#1 Spectator Mode added! Up to 6 players can watch battles while 2 battle.
#2 Before having a match, you can check out your opponent's information and decide whether you would like to battle against him/her or not for Player Match and Ranked Match.
#3 In the last game, it was difficult to tell who had bad network manners, but in UMvC3 skull, silver, gold icons will be shown.
#4 Looked over the retry features for matching and made matching better than the last game.
#5 In the last game, if matching was unsuccessful, you were brought back to the top menu screen, but in this game, it will bring you back to the screen where you can search again.
#6 In the leaderboards, there's a new button/feature which will take you to the rank at which you are positioned, and a cursor to make viewing easier.
Aaaand some other small fixes here and there to improve the online experience.

Well, it looks like we got a short list of improvements for UMvC3. I know that the final version of the game will take place in NYCC 2011 because Niitsuma said that there will be character reveals at major events. So what do you think?
Spectator was the most needed, everything else in technically a better bonus especially choosing to fight your opponent in BOTH ranked and Player. Great so far.
I'm still looking forward for Survival Mode to be added because Tatsunoko vs. Capcom have Survival Mode. I would also want 2-on-2 and 1-on-1 battles. For 1-on-1 Arcade you can always choose from Marvel, Capcom, or mixed.
Nothing much, since they should have been in MvC3 from the get go, as #7 said, strong basics, with such a crappy match making sistem i hardly found a match, and then i had to go to the start menu again, why the hell? who tought of that?
also, wasnt spectator mode impossible and really straining to do?
note that i dont mean harm, but i clearly remmber reading stuff like that.
unless t is kinda like SSF$, where the change is so big they only coudl add it as a new feature, but then the problem presists, why was it no there to begin with? that and some other signs that are now being "fixed" in the new game, just reinfore the rushed game even more.
dotn get me wrong, it is good to have this features, principaly for those who enjoy it and all that, i would actually liek to see a trailer advertising these new imrpovements lol. it would be darn funny reading the rage over the internet, and by internet i mean EventHubs, cuz i only come here for Capcom related issues lol.
"What do you think of these changes?"
That most of them should've been in the first game.
Did they really never bother to fix getting booted back to the online or even main menu after failing to find a match? Wow, talk about embarrasing. (I stopped playing MvC3 a long, long time ago incase it isn't already obvious).
So they finally learnt how to make a proper online mode for a fighting game eh? Should I clap or what?
Thanks for making better online. Not everyone goes to tournaments. I hate sometimes how some fighting games are only meant to be competitive. Sorry, but I'm not going to put in time to be the best, I just want to play the game and have fun.
I hope Capcom focuses more on their online in the future. Some of the retro players need to realize that times are changing and not everyone is going to the arcades anymore. Most people have consoles and play it online.
And those who might have the idea that online will kill the competitiveness, think again. There will still be people who will take it seriously and try to be the best. Why do you think we continue to see faces like Justin Wong and such a tournaments? They're the ones keeping it alive. I also think new faces will show up in the future (Maybe Noah might be one of those faces.)
i do kind of wish there were some other modes added instead of just spectator mode, but i like all of the characters being added.
but i honestly dont know what i would add as for more modes.
if you just added what was in Super Street Fighter 4 AE it would just be that game, but with a MvC paint job
(not fighting mechanics just feature mechanics)
I took a stab at rewriting the article for you.
"Capcom played some Western games and realized that Japanese UI designers have been treating players like poop for 20 years. It's still going to take way more effort in UMvC3 to remap buttons than it really should for any game ever, but at least they finally have some of the basics down that most online games have been doing for the last 5+ years."
How about a rematch feature in 2-player AE endless battles, so I don't have to set the rules to 5 rounds just to avoid feeling like I'm wasting time?

@ #13 - "also, wasnt spectator mode impossible and really straining to do?"
That was the line Nitsuma originally fed us, but UMvC3 now proves it was BS. Spectator Mode wasn't there because he and his team FAIL at making a game for the online arena. They just didn't design their game with it in mind. I guess they thought a couple Player Cards humping each other was entertaining enough, lol.
@23 Well how about that, you see, there is this game that came out awhile ago called SFIII:OE and you can change your buttons at the character select screen, and you can rematch if there are only 2 people in a lobby, and you can ban characters, and they have Spectator mode, and they have match recording, an they have youtube uploads, and, and, and...
I think this is awesome, and I appreciate that we get better online/spectator plus 12 new characters and stages for 40$. I got about two weeks of playing time into mvc3 so I got my moneys worth.
Mvc3 wasn't perfect, but it was fun. Hopefully this time capcom will keep the game up to date with buffs/nerfs as bugs and glitches are found.
I like #29's attitude. It's not annoying or whiny or including that ridiculously overused (and liberally at that) verb, "trolling."
I don't know what more you really need from this... other than the replays, which of course would be nice.
The network mannerisms icons are a great idea!
And I do not need to be fighting Cosmic or High Lords when I'm struggling through some Phoenixes in the 4th Lord zone (which is apparently when everyone gets desperate).
I'm happy with this. Hopefully more good news soon.
Im sorry but everyone who is saying that these are nice changes need to get off of capcom's teets(imo). all of these features listed should have been in mvc3 on launch date. Nope, I will not be giving capcom a pat on the back for adding features that should have came with the original version.
Your paying for it again the same way you would buy madden, nba2k, call of duty. Your getting new features or features you didn't have in mvc3. 12 new characters, 2 extra colors per character, 8 stages (it think), better online quality.
We already know mvc3 was rushed, maybe because demand was so high and budget was low. Idk all i can say is it's annoying read people cry about what was in the first game and what wasn't. Those were February and April complaints. Move on to a better experience.
In the end of the day you don't have to buy the game, unless your a fan and really enjoy fighting games. Only other advice i can give you is to not eat fast food for about a week. Everytime you would... don't and put 6 dollars away. That plus gas will give you 40$ and enough money for umvc3.
@Lyn I don't think I've ever seen you say something nice here :/. Are you always unhappy? You should cheer up :D!
I'm happy enough with just spectator mode being added, but I hope they added a kick button for lobbies too. What's the point of giving us a "Character restricted" or "Rule restricted" title for player matches if we can't enforce the rules?
@40 have you seen the playerbase of lobbies? theyre all angsty jerks who would surely abuse their power of the almighty lobby creator as soon as they lost a match. i guess you could steer clear of those particular instances but thats the only justification i could produce.
on the other hand, i agree this all shouldve been in originally, but its coming now and ive had my fill and money's worth of vanilla and im satisfied. maybe the third iteration will have a replay channel.
They really, rally need to implement a kick option, pronto.
WITHOUT a kick option, people can just CAMP OUT in your room and do nothing, taking up slots for no reason other than KNOWING you can't kick them (or falling asleep on the mic lol). I had many matches with friends where I left a room open for one or two random players to jump in, they play a match or two, get bodied (not by me, I suck lol), then just... sit there. Another friend comes online, and I want to invite him, but now I can't because this douche is just.. sitting there.
And because he doesn't take himself out of the rotation, we now have to wait for him (or her) to have their team auto-selected, then we get to play a pseudo-training mode match because again... can't kick them.
So I have to make a new room from scratch.
...this is reminding me of how silly MvC3's online was. Seriously, that drained a third of my hype from the game - making (and maintaining) an online lobby was just cumbersome at best.
It looks like most of those things have been fixed though, so while I won't be grabbing this on launch, at the very least I'm glad to see most of the other issues addressed.
...but there needs to be some sort of kick button, dammit.
lame!
