The Saltmine blog has written up a impression of their hands-on preview of Street Fighter X Tekken and its presence at Battle Arena Melbourne 2011.[Pandora]’s definitely something that will get tweaked before release. I predict the Super bug to get fixed, and/or a little extra duration. Eight seconds isn’t nearly enough time to properly open an opponent up, and was likely decided upon as a base value, to be added to as Team Ono sees fit. One last tidbit; a round win by way of Pandora is marked in the round win icons with the 天 symbol. Well gee, I wonder who the final boss is going to be…
SFxT has a new hitstun state that seems to be inspired by Tekken, where the victim slumps to the ground briefly before regaining their feet. The whole thing is quicker than a knockdown recovery, and keeps the user relatively low; I can’t remember any instance of it resulting in whiffed high attacks, but I can’t confirm that that can’t happen either. The new state seems to result from standing heavy normals. In addition to the 天 symbol for a win by Pandora, there’s another new win icon for winning with low health, G, inspired by Tekken’s traditional “Great!” cry in the same situation.
Many Tekken characters’ specials can be extended by pressing buttons. Heihachi’s Thunder God Fist (DPM+P, the jumping variant) can be extended Seth-style, while Lili’s Sunflower Lance requires repeated presses of K to continue. Another thing of note is that while Hard Tag-Outs with MP+MK are invincible for the fighter running off screen, the character running in is quite vulnerable. Also, Switch Cancels are far from invincible, leading to many a happy birthday (one combo catching two fighters).
^^^looks like it... but i wonder what akuma has to do with pandora?
Pandorakuma! Shin Pandorakuma! Oni Pandorakuma! And secret hidden ultra extra final boss, Devil Pandorakuma! (His tag partner is Mech Pandorakuma)
this is cool n all but i have yet to confirm how teammates will work ONLINE.
Will it be like MK9 where my teammate has to be sitting next to me on the same system?
or can my teammate be in another state?
tweeted ono and seth multiple times with this question, no replies =(
(The guy knew all the move names, I'm jealous and intrigued!)
I agree that the pandora system needs to be fixed after what I saw in BAM stream. As for Akuma appearing, yea, it's a high chance that he will appear.
@9
yep, it needs to stay more or less the same. the moment u can do things like combo into it it will become the prime game mechanic. we dont need another x factor
people tend to forget that this game is 6 months away. All this preview play people get at EVO and major tournaments are for us to try it out and give input.
So if you haven't actually played the game then anything you say about pandora or any SFxT mechanic is invalid.
You can't judge a game by seeing it in beta stages on youtube or streams. You have to actually play it before giving any judgement to anything.
Is it just me or does Akuma seem like the type of character that would have a partner..lol...
it would seem kind of strange to me..
@14, 15: I don't need to play the game to say that I don't want another comeback mechanic, especially if said mechanic runs the risk of being more like X-Factor than SF4 Ultras.
@16 It'd be easy to just have him running around with no partner in the story. Doesn't mean it matters to the gameplay.
@15
because im sure a month or 2 after release we will start seeing really high dmg combos and with pandora that might just put u in situations where one touch could be 50% or better(which would be more then enough to kill when u consider that this would happen during a fight where both fighters arent 100% health). Mind u there will be characters that REALLY benefit from it(the article mentions lili being really good in pandora mode).
Like i said before, the moment u buff it it will become the end all be all game system and all that will matter is finding the time to activate it. THey wont drop it out of the game since pandora is tied to the plot, but buffing it will be require delicate touch that capcom wont be able to pull off.
The only change i could see is maybe stoping the timer during combat animations, IE during the animation of a command slam, during a super animation. But i can see that leading to massive problems too, imagine ryu/guile just throwing supers one after the other and extending the pandora time(maybe even traping u/chiping u to death).
Best thing they do is leave it alone. It will be extremely high risk and prob useless mechanic in high level play which is fine.
No more comeback mechanics. They are stupid. No one should be rewarded for losing a round.
@22
hey bless me too im about to say something wise.
*Ahem*
this game sucks!
LOL No seriously. if Akuma is in then, devil Jin or maybe someone like JinPachi must be in. he needs to have that "evil" (even though Akumas not evil) partner. but anyways, people are right...dont buff Pandora. ive never played MvC3 but from what i hear, X-Factor, is very lame and makes the game too linear. we want a game, were not everything will be pandora...d? is that a word? anyways looking forward to this game, no matter what! WTF is Bison damnit?
pesonally i dont want to just see akuma as the final boss...epic yeah...but this is sf x TEKKEN, id like to see a tekken boss character like jinpachi, or better yet, mabe like what cvs did with u.rugal and s.akuma.
like wise to t x sf, id like to see a sf boss like akuma, or mabe even alternate endings depending on what you do, and with what character as well. but before all of that i just want them to conferm him already with a cinamatic trailer. they did ryu vs. kazuya, so mabe its going to be jin vs. akuma :/
And suddenly Oni's existance may make complete sense now. Think about it. What if interacting with the Pandora Cube in some manner is what made Akuma evolve into Oni? He does look like he goes into Pandora Mode in his U2.
Maybe Capcom and Ono slipped one by on us and all this time we've had a playable SFxT boss character in AE.
Pandora isn't going to be taken out as one said above. And it is completely useless as if one enters the mode, the other can too and will just stay back until they die. It makes the game crappy and we need something to make it more of a fun and useful tool. We don't want an Xfactor, But we don't want useless either. We also don't want to ruin the game. Perhaps increasing the time by 2 extra seconds and adding some mechanic to where they can be up in your face so you have to face the Pandora'd person so you cant run away. Its still suicidal but at least they cant get away. And you have those 2 extra seconds to find an opening. Because if you think about it, 8 second pandora was more like 5 seconds.
first!
Akuma confirmed then?
