Magneto's DLC costume in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 inspired by King of Spain

More than six years ago, reports circulated that the Spanish Royal House's law department considered legal actions to stop Marvel from publishing the comic book cover image for The Pulse: House of M by Mike Mayhew inspired by a copyrighted photograph of King Juan Carlos' of Spain. Here are the images in question, and the new DLC costume image for Magneto on the right.

One of GameSpot's breakdowns of the DLC costumes specifically mentions this comic as well. Apparently, the image was removed from The Pulse: House of M, but Marvel didn't eliminate it from their wardrobe possibilities and it ended up in the game.

Spanish news outlets started reporting on the similarities between the new UMvC3 Magneto costume and the outfit their king wears, but so far representatives of the game in Spain have stated that members of the Royal House haven't been in contact with them to raise any complaints on the use of the outfit.

The Royal House has said they will look into the issue, but so far haven't stated an official position on its use.

As it says in the article, they raised a stink about this back in '05 when House of M came out but no legal action came of it. I don't expect anything to happen now either.

Gravity-Squeeze in spanish would be something like "Estrujamiento Gravitatorio"

I'm from Spain, I knew about the inspiration of this costume and just for that I want this DLC, just to see how the BIONIC AAAAAAAAARM! looks against the King XD

The comic book cover wasn't "inspired by" the photograph, it was plagiarized. It looks like Mayhew literally took the photograph, touched up some of the details, pasted a new head on and then added his name to the bottom. How shameful.

A lot of people are clueless. You're talking about a ruler of a country. Big deal? It's only a costume so move on?!? If this costume damages his reputation or that Juan Carlos doesn't appreciate people using his royal outfit in a video game, he has the right to say so. Magneto is portray as a villain in the Marvel Universe. You geeks better not lecture me about "Magneto did some good deed in the comics therefore he's a not a villain" crap because I couldn't care less. Magneto has always been known a villain. I'm sticking by that. Juan Carlos may not like to be portray as that because of that outfit.
