Desk did an interview with RoK the Reaper they discuss various subjects from tournaments, glitches, combo videos and more.During Evolution and other tournaments such as Devastation, we have seen people pull off impressive things in tournaments but your ability and your combos are often on a whole other level in comparison. I've seen a few of your combo videos and glitch videos performed in-game, but what do you think is the practicability of them in actual matches? Such as the Chun-Li infinite in MvC 3 and SSFIV?
Well, since I haven't entered a tournament for over 2 years, I can't speak with any kind of authority on that. There's also many more things to consider that make it different from doing stuff on your home TV.monitor. In particular, the amount of lag on the set-up you happen to be playing on. There's also a massive difference between 'actual matches' and the final of a top level tournament begin streamed to 20'000+ people.
Something I am most curious about is that I personally have not seen you at any tournaments. Your technical ability alone would make me scared enough to believe that a single touch means an instant K.O. Do you compete?
Well, I was competing a lot between 2006-2009 (I traveled a lot and attended everything I could). Then some real life stuff happened, my stick broke and I ended up selling all my SF games and quitting. This ended up only lasting a year but I was completely done at the time, I didn't play a single game, watch match vids or keep up with anything that was happening in the scene. It was only the popularity of SFIV that brought me back. A friend loaned me a stick and I spent a weekend putting together a Combo video. It suddenly became the most popular thing I'd ever done, so I got back into it but ended up not returning to the competitive side of things.
I personally would love to see you at Evolution 2012. What is the possibility that you will make an appearance to that or any other major tournament happening next year?
I'm already planning to attend Evo but I don't think my budget can stretch to go anywhere else next year.
Has anyone seen his face? (i have yet to check out his band)
(Desk vs Poongko? He'll at least let everyone know what's broken in the latest builds of various games.)
I've been playing SSF4 and AE for one year and I've been watching all the streams, and all the tournaments, but I'm just going to say it.
No offense intended but, who the hell is desk??
@9 Wow, your on Eventhubs and don't know who Desk is? Search for articles with his name on the site.
Desk has legs to travel places? I thought he was just hands...
@15
Don't be silly.....hands don't need legs to walk, only a couple of fingers.
@lukatmashuz
yea those who have like Calcius Repton and Project Dolphin have probably seen the vids with him playing bass. i prefer Calcius Repton over the other band but thats only because i love the Bass Guitar :)
Just because I ATTEND a football game doesnt mean Im COMPETING in it!
I'm sure Desk will have at least 20 glitches per game under his belt by the time Evo 2012 is here.
@4 and @19, dude shut up. We understood that you tried to be smart the first time. But there is one big fail in your guess. Who in the world is stupid enough to use that much money (he said that he wouldn't be able to go anywhere else after that) just to be in the audience, when you have a chance of placing high yourself? It's like Daigo, Justin, Tokido, Ricky, Mago, F. Champ, Fuudo and all other top players coming to EVO just to "ATTEND" and not "COMPETE!!".
@11
Dude, sriously. I actually agree that execution isn't everything. But Desk's execution is simply in another level. It's freakin awesome. The guy doesn't miss a single link or combo. Seriously, HIS execution will make the difference.
Did someone really just say Desk winning an ONLINE match means anything? Great, I'm glad beating some random guy online means you are actually good at fighting games. Oh wait it doesn't. Desk has never beaten a single good player EVER, so why would you believe a man who's never competed at the highest level is just going to show up and win? He's never even been to a major before. The man can't play, that's why he's not sponsored, that's why he doesn't travel, cause he isn't good enough.
@ 24
It's NOT a guess.
He ONLY said ATTEND and ONLY attend. There's no guessing when Im basically COPYING what he said!
2nd
Ur argument is the TRUE FAIL
U claim that he's competing at this EVO just because he can NOT afford to travel after?
So to you...being able to travel to other places means he is going to be in the audience only.
We all know Daigo and Justin are going to travel to other places after EVO that means they wont compete this year...
BRILLIANT!!
@26 do you think all of his combo videos and other videos are done in one take? you cant simply edit out your losses in tourny and upload all the good takes. he cant get far based on execution ALONE so just cause he could do some crazy combos (by hand too) doesnt mean he will do them everytime and not mess up when it counts.
#30 Ok so we have a Street Fighter player, that has an interview about being seen in a tournament, and he talks about why he left the competitive side of things before, and he tells him the "big news" that hes going to sit in the Audience? Yeah, thats a pretty good interpretation of this interview. I would surely bet my left hand on your guess... Geez.
My 'guess' is not an assumption
YOUR STATEMENT that he is competing is!
Until he says those words exactly or a video of it proves that he is.
You can ASSUME he is competing all you like.
"Let's go Bowling"
you ASSUME that means Drinking and pretzels are included.
WHO SAID ANYTHING about that?
He said ATTEND.
You REALLY want to assume things in this TROLL HEAVY community?
"Something I am most curious about is that I personally have not seen you at any tournaments. Your technical ability alone would make me scared enough to believe that a single touch means an instant K.O."
I have respect for Desk's execution ability, but questions like this are ridiculous. Suggesting execution alone determines tournament victories is like suggesting that you can easily pick the next heavyweight champion of the world by the way he hits the speed bag.
@34
Exactly my point my dude!
Just because one thing is good doesnt mean everything is!
"Oh he's cute!"
-Jen...He's really a psychopathic murderer that escaped from prison last night, it was even in the news!
"But he's soooooo cute!!"
-Sigh...have fun....
You guys are expecting to much lol. For one I doubt he will bring some crazy tech or execution like Marlinpie does while still being effective cause in this game the tiniest, most braindead combo is enough to kill. If he;'s serious about winning.
Although yea he might pull a Marlinpie who knows
I played Desk a couple of times at London events back in the day. He seemed to be a very good player and whenever I chatted with him it was clear he had a tonne of knowledge about the games. He was a really friendly and polite guy too. Back then, he'd made a Zangief video which was awesome in its own way but not an execution show like his recent output. I can't believe this was all before Street Fighter IV had even come out on consoles!!
It doesn't really surprise me that Desk has made a name as a video creator, but over the years the stuff he's come out with has got insane. It's funny for me to think about the progression from the 3rd Strike ranking battles crammed into a tiny computer shop in London to the massive online scene we have now with streaming and sites like this and frequent international events. Crazy.
I hope Desk does go to Evo and compete too!
You guys have some insane expectations if you think Desk is going to go to Evo 2012 and just own everyone. While it is definitely important to not drop combos and that will go a long way, the biggest challenges for anyone in tournaments are quickly adapting to playstyles, setups, and figuring out how to win against someone you will only be playing up to 3 games with.
That said, desk is my favorite fighting game player ever, despite the fact that he hasn't competed lately. If he does end up going to Evo 2012, I wish him the best of luck as I know he is capable of taking down even the FGC's titans.
How coincidental, I was just debating in a stream chat how I believe he'll be a great player that can compete at a tournament level.
Lets see if my beliefs are true...
I like how everyone here thinks Desk will make top 8 or something just because his execution is the best. his execution is the best ive seen, but SF is more then just combos. only people new to the game think combos make you win. theres so much things Desk could improve on instead of combos. hes already got his execution down, what he needs to practice on is his mental game, his match-ups, the basics, etc... if he goes to Evo thinking combos will make him win/get far, hes sadly mistaking. Good Luck Desk!
He can handstand on a chair; he's got my vote. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSyqzy...
Hey no point in arguing with that h8 unity snow, he gets banned everywhere and just flames negative comments. Never ever has anything constructive to say, he hates snow because his ridiculous questions don't get answered then he starts the rage talk. Besides he doesn't play online because everyone is a cheap scrub so he says.
Desk won't travel there and not compete, read the interview he said u haven't been competing in a while but will attend EVO for the guest time in years. That sounds a lot like he's competing to me. I think desk will do great if he just keeps his mind set on the big damage bnb's and forgets where he's @.
Good luck desk we're all rooting for ya!
Really hope he attends and competes. I personally think the execution will help him get far, and after he shakes off his nervousness and lack of competing against human beings, he should do ok.
This man needs to make a place where people can donate towards his travel fees. I'm sure a boatload of people would donate to help him get to more tourneys.
Desk may have the execution, but does he have the strategy, mind games/yomi?
@ 48
If you are made of paper like Strider Akuma FireBrand and most of the girls.
Or if you took heavy chip then the other person has Wesker for backup.
@ 44
The TRUTH hurts...woo woo woo u no it
@ 44
BTW - Good luck desk we're all rooting for ya!
"Real" constructive.
giving him a pat on the back? im sure that will make all of the difference in the world...LOL
OMG Desk at EVO!!!!! Earth shattering news!!! I will definitely be on the lookout for him..........OR NOT LLLLLLLMAO
He should bring his band or a DJ set with his tracks to be played in the final stages of the tournament, to make things more epic. The guy is pure talent, all of you guys are forgettin that Desk it's not only an execution machine, the guy know these gameplay engines so well that he's able to discover the most amusing glitches and infinites since day one.
Another good idea would be to bring Desk to Evo as a show, he could prepare a mind blowing combo set, wear a Daft Punk helmet and of course his music set as a background. Actually this a better idea lol
Great Desk is gonna go and break the game he may lose but he'll break the game plus I think he's just going to play SFIVAE anyway I think he mains gief or chun as for marvel I think the team he's using right now is frank, nemesis and Spencer or Skrull
Great Execution doesnt mean his defense is sound.
Desk has said it HIMSELF that he has godlike execution but poor skills in the other departments, which is why you never see match videos on youtube from him. All of you expecting him to be some bracket raper are probably going to be extremely disappointed if he even competes.
@20 why are you such a hater? instead of thanking him for his combo videos, which i know you watched, and wishing him good luck. you just really hated on a guy you don't even know. people like you should just disappear.
The guy has a life. Not a surprise there. I am excited to see how he'll perform under pressure.
@20:
Maybe he won't make out pools. The combos he creates probably are done after many attempts (I'm pretty sure). However, I'm sure he can kick your asz with ease.
Ha, the hatred, its just blatant jealousy. Makes me laugh so much.
I'd like to see some matches between Desk and his haters.
dude. desk is a monster thats about 2 be uncaged. im expecting he makes it to at least top 64 in 2012
Execution wins or loses games. To all the haters that say execution isn't enough... Execution is by far the LARGEST factor for winning. If you don't understand execution, then you don't understand winning.
You want to adapt to a play style or team comp? Requires execution.
You want to punish unsafe play/dropped combos? Requires execution.
If Desk's level of execution is 9/10 and his other areas are "average", then you could assume that he would at least defeat most "average" opponents 2-0.. simply due to the fact that his execution is MUCH better.
However, if he plays Jwong, Fanatiq or Combofiend, whom also have 9/10 execution, he will definitely need to up his game in all the other areas to compete.
No player is perfect. There is always a way to win.
Can't help but laugh with all the haters. I pity u all and I think you are all just jealous because no one is rooting for you. Lol! Give DESK a break. No one is saying that he will definitely win evo2012 but we are just saying that he has the potential and the execution to compete with the top level players.
@68 Considering he has literally the best execution in the world, I wouldn't be surprised if he breaks his sticks.
Buying sticks can be very expensive though. Yeah, I know, no duh, but keep in mind Desk has other things on his mind other than buying a stick, and uses his money where it's needed.
LOL Would like to see him pull off those crazy combos at evo, man that would be BEASTLY!
