I think it comes down to more him being a good player than Gouken being good. If you notice, when faced with top ranking players he is using Akuma rather than Gouken.
Also his Gouken matches the opponents were a bit button happy and weren't blocking a lot of the time.
Still good stuff, I hope he proves everyone wrong about Gouken being low tier.

I love how random internet people bitch about talented players picking supposed top tier characters (Gouken is lame now? Really??) ...but they never had to travel internationally to tournaments, worry about airfare, prize money, etc. Easy to complain from your basement computer.
I love when random internet people lick the balls of players that pick top tier characters and praise them for winning. i wannaa see a top player DAN, or a top player Thawk. i am never impressed with Akuma players, its like saying i have the fastest car and im driving a ferrari up against honda civics, and other normal cars.
Maybe you guys should just learn the character you like to play as and stop complaining because someone else got famous with the character before you did.
Stop letting top playes dictate what characters you want to play as. Your only hurting yourself when you put such a shallow bias againts your own choices.

Perhaps we like watching top player play characters period, whether it's a top tier or not. It's not licking...whatever you vulgarly said. Most top players know how to play several characters sufficiently, but we mostly see streams of competitive play where they will pick their mains.
They are playing to compete, not to entertain you with "low tier" picks. How about you pick up a Dan or T Hawk? Dan isn't even that bad, especially when 2012 comes. J Wong (while using Dan) had an entertaining win over Air in a tournament within this past year, may have been an exhibition.
And your analogy doesn't make sense, because the other "drivers" can also choose the Ferrari, if they want to choose Civics it's their choice. But don't whine about your choice of a civic and blame it on that. People that pick low tier characters and make a big deal when they win with them are usually worse than top tier mainers because it's the fault of the character if they lose, but it's the amazing skill of the player if they win.

The more Yuns in tournament arguement maybe valid when AE first came out which is understandable because everyone wants to try the new characters. How many Yuns do you see in the most recent tournament (canada cup)? Im kinda sick of people jumping on bandwagons without even knowing the facts.
I remember seeing Infiltration's Gouken in Canada Cup. Everyone was so hyped about it. It is good to see him use another character so efficiently.
I'm glad to see another top player picking up Gouken. I've been maining him since vanilla and it's so rare to see skilled players using him in a match.
