Why? They know the big fighting craze is dying and they want to cash in while it's still hot.
@12
This has been CC pricing structure since forever. They place it on YouTube for you to watch for free and you have to pay to download it. See Air's Ryu tutorial, Tom Bradys MK guide, and every othere feature production that CC has done to date To say that this is happening to cash in on a "dying craze" (what makes you think fighting games are slowing down) is just untrue.
I hear what you are saying HolyGhost but the reality is this is the direction streams are heading unless something happens and FG streams drop in popularity. Anytime something becomes popular there are always people who look to capitalize on it. This usually comes under the guise of "making it better" but it isn't always the case.
Hell, look at Hulu when it started out. You could watch shows with like 3 commercials per hour. They "made it better" by offering more show selection and the cost is tons of commercials now and a limited archive of the popular shows people want to see....unless you pay for the premium plan.
This is why I appreciate Sp00ky. He has said he doesn't want to ever charge for his streams and that is a really cool mindset. That being said, if someone goes above and beyond in their production I also can't begrudge them hoping to get some compensation for their time and cost that they sacrifice to put on an event stream, especially if the amount seems reasonable. I'm just happy that every event so far has offered up a free option. If that goes away I think there will be a lot of negative repercussions from the FGC fans.
The difference between Cross Counter and Canada Cup is that Cross Counter provided a high quality live stream at 1080 p+ with no commercials FOR FREE. Canada Cup charged for mediocre quality, and even subscribers got a barrage of ads during very important matches. Not to mention Cross Counter's price is much more reasonable.
IFC Yipes is the man ~~~! ^_^
