One-time use gems? I hope that's not true, that's going to piss a lot of people off. Having to pay for gems is one thing but having to constantly repurchase them is another. Not that anybody is saying you have to get the gems but if they're made to avail they shouldn't be one-time use only. Personally, I won't buy one-time use gems. I'm still hype for the game though.
BTW the customization mode is pretty slick.
Hopefully the customization is good enough to make a Phoenix Wright Jin or Kazuya like I did in Tekken 6

Also notice that there are only 3 slots per character, rather than 5 like before.
Pretttyy sure the gems are once per use per match.
Not per use throughout the game. That'd be just plain silly.
@4, 8: More likely because it's something you have to plan for from the ground up in terms of the graphical engine, otherwise you get a PC game situation where players have to go into the files themselves and mod and replace stuff.
Also because Marvel probably has more to say on whether they want players to be able to edit their characters' colors.
Also, Heroes and Heralds/Art and Sound galleries/Arcade mode itself flies in the face of "they didn't want to waste time on it because competitive blah."
Also, competitive players aren't the only ones playing these games.
Color customization?? That's going to be pretty cool dude but the one time gem use.....I have mixed feelings about that man..Im not sure what they mean by "one time use" I'm thinking maybe once a match...but if its like....once and then you can use it ever again...that is kinda lame...that is of course if we literally have to pay for gems with cash and not points that we'd earn from winning matches online or something
@12 I try to get hype whenever there's news, but...Gems will shadow everything, whether it's overshadowing or following right behind, at least until there's more concrete details on them.
But, like I've said, I am prepared to travel to Capcom's American HQ and throw money at the building if they confirm a character I want or two...or three, four, etc.
Interesting note is that they could easily incorporate both methods of "Once per round" or "once per match" as conditions on Gems in exchange for whatever it is they do.
The Gem system has potential and I want to like it, they just need to execute.
The hype for this game never died for me, it just got a bit shaky when I heard about the gem system. I still have faith that it'll be balanced and I would want to use gems.
I hope they make it so you have to grind for gems, like get to a certain level in survival mode or spend this amount of time in training mode. That'll keep casual gamers busy and make them better AND allow them to compete against good players with there own gems all at the same time.
will this colour edit be in the game or will it be a paid DLC?
I was hype for this game but its slowly becoming less and less attractive to me. This title seems to be catering to the casual player that likes playing dress up with their characters and all these stupid gems. For the tournament player, this game is becoming confusing, and just a little bit to much. We just want to fight, with a balanced roster, and a new style of play. The tag team is that new style, now stop adding stupid stuff and focus on making it play right.
Oh another idea I just had. They should allow you to gamble your points/gems online. If you need to buy gems in game by earning points then you can bet points/gems against other people in endless battle or something. And when you do 2v2 then the steaks get higher because there's more points to be lost/earned.
I just hope they do something out of the ordinary.
One time use gems are a great idea for those auto-throw tech gems and auto-block, they're still broken but not nearly as broken. Maybe it would be like, once the auto throw tech gem is active, you get one auto throw tech, and that's it, or maybe one blockstring gets auto blocked. I think this is a really good idea.
From 5 gems to 3...almost there capcom I know you can go from 3 to 0.
No gems! If you want customization for variation, may I suggest Stats System?

Each character is BALANCED at 5 attributes each..you may take one off from one and add on to the other slot. This way, you have two different Mirror matches and have variety.
This system > Gem system. This system should have been in SFxT.
This is just awesome.. I'm loving the gems system as long as they can keep it balanced. It gives the game some depth. Also I'm so glad they're putting color edit mode in. I really want this game to be kind of a spiritual successor to CvS2.. Now all I need is some gameplay videos where they do more than just "ABC switch ABC" I'll be completely hype for this game
I hope you can mix and match everything but since it says "Costume 1" I don't think you can. I wonder how this'll work.

we don't even have the game in our hands and ppl like #25 & #52 are talking like sf x tk is becoming confusing or looks like its more casual fanservice than competitive tourney game? really? y? cuz of the gems? cuz of color edit? kof 13 has color edit and its been played and will continue to be played in tournies for a long time.
how can any1 get confused about something that hasn't even been fully revealed yet?same thing to any1 making assumptions toward this games potential competitive lifespan.Once the choice to choose no gems was announced i'd think it [gems] wouldn't even matter.just ban them from tournament, the end.
This gem system is a flaw from the start of the project, It seems more of an incentive for the company, to make money. They should just toss it out the window and work more into core game play other than outside features messing with the core game play. Other features such as pandora, Tag team 4p, tag combos, Swap clothing and customizing colors. This is a very innovative idea! This seems more of a party game, than a competitive game, which in my opinion is very nice. Other wise might as well re hash the PowerStone Franchise.

Your system is flawed as s**t what would you do about character who just dump in to speed and attack? what about characters who Only go power they would get trumped every time by those with most speed because they will run away and also links and combos would not work anymore with that if they drop speed and go power...
get out of high school take some actual game design classes then comeback
Boy I wish I was still in High School. I'll take my design over this "gem" system any day. At least you wouldnt have to buy stats as DLC's. ;)

Yes because new always = better right? Oh by the way, chess is regarded as one of the greatest games of our time and is respected on a large scale international level. It will be around after Street Fighter while remaining the same and still being respected more. Get a better comparison, not one that makes you look out of touch with the world.
Color edit's looking sexy, even though it's probably going to be using a swatch selection system instead of a full palette.
Re: One-time use gems - This worries me because it's now closer to the potential of X-Factor. But, will all depend on what the actual effects are, and there's no point worrying without more details.
