Top Japanese player Uryo and the best Sakura player in the world has posted his tier list for Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v.2012 on his blog.With such incredibly varying opinions among top players, it seems like 2012 is really up in the air when it comes to who is top tier. As a reminder, v.2012 hits consoles on December 13th.

I hope this tier list is at least somewhat close to being accurate..cuz if it is, then my Juri is finally top tier!! Good thing I stuck with her since chocolate :D

Right, Cammy is better than Yun and Yang and tied with Viper, Makoto, and BETTER than Gief.
That enough is to call this list into serious doubt.

How the hell can you even make a AE 2012 Tier list when we have not even got the FINAL blog changes yet. Speculation is fine but wait until things are set in stone first.

I have trouble staying interested in SF4 after AE.
SSF4 was one of the most balanced fighters ever. Then they made the game unbalanced and crappy ON PURPOSE to "make it more exciting." During that time MvC3 pretty much took over and now they have TxSF, KoF13, UMvC3, Blazblue updates, Skullgirls, and Soul Calibur 5 to compete with... SF4 had the undisputed top position in fighting games and they kind of blew it...
He also said that the list is really cursory, and if he were to write it tomorrow it would probably look different. And that three tiers isn't enough. The characters he likes look good on the tier, so he's happy with the balance.
At any rate, it's certainly not gospel. Just some gut impressions he has of the state of balance.
I also learned what the "Four Heavenly Kings" (四天王) are. Four leaders of Shadaloo: Bison, Balrog, Sagat, Vega. Ha.

@23 There were no further location tests. Unless Uryo got a chance to play the game again after the last location test than what he played wont sync up with the final change log.
They aren't going to go "ok, we did the beta changes location test. Don't use any of the data we gathered, don't change a single thing, wait a month and a half, re-release the exact same information without modifying anything at all."
The final change log will probably be similar to the beta version of 2012 but there will be differences.
Also the fact he puts Yun and Yang mid makes me seriously question the amount of effort he put into this list. Not only was Yang far more nerfed than Yun (meaning I doubt that they will be side by side on tiers) but Yun didn't really lose anything that would keep him from being a high tier character. He still has a lot of safety, high damage, good mix ups, solid stun output, and amazing frame traps. Yang will still be high tier too but probably not quite as high.
All this really means for Yun is that players will need to actually plan out a strategy and learn what tools to use in certain matchups rather than just fishing with his neutral jump hoping to catch something with a delayed dive kick.

OMG TIER LISTS LETS OVER REACT!
The best players in this game don't waste their time worrying about who sits where on a tier list. They pick a couple of characters and learn everything they can about them and seek other players of similar skill to spar with and improve. Stop wasting your time being so worried about any list any player creates because while it may be a good rough guide to characters' overall ability , it changes over time when people learn and adapt. They are completely over rated as we can see in the disparity between top players opinions. I have played various skill levels of players on xbl of almost every character and have found that it doesnt matter what character they pick, if they are skilled, then its a tough fight. These tier lists are only important at levels of competition where both players have reached the full potential of each character and both have the elite level of execution to validate what is presented by a tier list.
One last thing ,I have seen a member here by the name of "allupoj" i think it is, who has always said that ssf4 was not as balanced as people claimed it was and I completely agree. For the top half of characters it was close to balanced, although who could argue that chun li, guile, honda and bison were just that bit better? The bottom half of characters were definitely lacking although there was a lot of hidden potential people were too cautious to unlock..i.e cody springs to mind, very under rated. In my opinion though, there is far too much emphasis placed on these apparent rankings , time that could be better spent improving your skill level.

The people who think it's not balanced are the ones who play characters that aren't in the top-tier. The top tier is balanced and their fairly balanced against each other. Everything else is imbalanced and gets egregiously imbalanced when you get to the bottom. Everyone thinks that just because the majority of unfair matchups are 6-4 means a game is balanced. Ain't true especially when the very bottom has a majority of 6-4's and even 7-3's.

Also people forget to factor in everyone elses buffs and nerfs just Yun and Yang
AE is much better for the not top-tier in terms of balance. Everyone has to deal with the 3-headed Hong Kong Monster. The rest of the matchups improved slightly for the bottom guys.

Chun-Li and Vega tops? Really? Come on, man. I've mained them since the days of vanilla and they've NEVER been top. EVER. What did they recieve in v.2012 to become top overnight? Nothing. N-O-T-H-I-N-G.

She´ll be top tier when none of the others characters is able to mash their f****** reversal moves. That'll be the moment she'll become top. Till then, stop lying.
To those of you who think SSFIV was super well balanced, you're kidding yourselves. I'm not saying AE was necessarily better, mind you. But at least in AE a lot of the low tiers got buffed. Personally though I wish they'd stop messing up the good characters and just buff up the low tier characters so they have a fighting chance.
In that sense, AE was a lot better for people who played low-tier, like Guy (who I play). SSFIV was a nightmare if you were one of the 4 lowest tier characters for that specific game. (Guy, Gen, Hakan, Dan.)
Really hope they make more changes to AE2012 or things won't be too different for those that need it the most.
Seems kind of accurate, at least for the bottom tier (the rest is really crazy though unless he knows about changes that no one else has access to yet - like Claw in the top? That means he got some incredible changes no one heard about yet...), Rose has always and will always be bottom tier since the devs have hated on her since Alpha 3. She was only slightly better in Super because of her amazing and awesome U2. Without that she's back to getting out poked, rushed down and pressured to death - Thanks Capcom, why not just admit you have no desire to work on certain characters to make them viable instead of lying and saying you're balancing the game? You buffed the people you want to see played and nerfed people that leveled the playing field yet the characters you could care less about are still not a match for most of the cast now, even more than before.

Chun was top in Super. No lie. Her df+lk was too good as an anti-air. Also, It's just that popular tournament characters such as Akuma, Rufus, and Viper took Chun players out in tournaments. And with AE, add Yun and Yang to that list.
And no, Super was not "balanced" at all.
I'm quite curious as to why Uryo wrote up his impressions of AE 2012's tier list the way he did. I thought he would list Zangief as top tier for sure. Interesting. Let's see if he posts a revised tier list when the game officially releases in arcades.

@51 Yeah it annoys me when ppl say that. Bottom feeders got a lot of needed love in AE. The "Super was perfect" crowd tends to be people whose main got nerfed. They could care less about the rest of the cast long as their character was "balanced".
As much as I love and admire Uryo as a player, I have to say this is one of the worst tier lists I've ever seen. Not because I disagree with his opinions, but because listing that many characters as "top tier" implies that they're all equally strong, and thats just poor analysis.

And Ryu and Blanka above him? I mean, Blanka match up is 7-3 in Blanka's favor in AE. 1 frame quicker U2 and 1 more frame block stun on CH did all the business? Or that stupid "SHC knocks the grounded opponent to the ground" buff?

Badly done maybe? Firstly it's only segmented into 3 parts, and then he lumped most character into the "top tier" part and then forgot to put Guile in? Great player, but he certainly has an unorthodox opinion when it comes to "rankings" in SSIV AE.
lol this is a 2012 list guys and is, imo, spot on. The only thing I'm not sure about is Zangi. I don't think he'll be bottom tier some how.
I am a Guy main playing in Osaka (and have 30,000BP), and the changes he got are superficial at best whilst everyone else got better. He's always been low tier and remains there.
I think Ibuki is top tier too.

Tier list are opinions and people are allowed to have an opinion at any time even if it's based on incomplete information, aren't they? Besides people probably asked him about it anyway.
I don't get why just because one matchup is wrong in your opinion, the entire tier list is wrong or it's even suspect. It just mean there are people out there who disagrees with you.
Interestingly, if the list is sorted, then Uryo thinks Akuma, despite the nerfs, is top tier as well. Does the Japanese know something we don't?
#82 almost every pro seems to think that Akuma will be top, apparently according to J Wong he didn't really receive any nerfs, something which I can never understand.

Have you ever fought a good Chun-Li? Even a decent one is a B*itch to deal with defensively, and they can keep you out for ages. Chun-Li is worthy of top tier...if Yun/Fei Long/Viper/Akuma are not over powered. These characters give Chun-Li a hard time, especially Viper with her mix-up games. But Chun-Li can easily best 3/4ths of the cast. The issue is that popular characters can take her out and op yun was too viable to risk a tourny with her.
no way vega moved up, i mean all his buffs from what i have seeing are trash. unless they havent mentioned other buffs like his scarlet terror having invincibility back like the good old days. now if he had that, which he should had haved since the begining, because i dint see ryu or anyone else lose all their invincuvulity frames on their reversal, he would be top tier for sure.i mean it would make opponents think twice before they pressure me after a knockdown and best of all, he would have his anti air back, which was his biggest problem. i hope its true, because sf4 in general has being nothing but nerfs for vega, im mean the recovery of his wall dive is crazy now, but thats another topic.

Tier lists are always objective but this is one of the worsts I'v ever seen which I guess makes sense since the game hasn't come out yet.
