A ton of details about various tweaks Capcom made since vanilla Marvel vs. Capcom 3 were announced last month. With Ultimate's release on Tuesday, we felt it was a good time to recap the official announcements that took place. I look forward to this Catalyst. Hopefully this can help me improve.
Galactus Mode is BAD
Hold Select + L1/RB and X.
It's like he needs stamina to attack.
Fireball and Hard does instakill.
He has a crappy ending.
U get a trophy for it.
The end
Capcom I love this game, I love most of your games, but I won't be buying this one unless it is heavily discounted to 20 bucks or less. In other words, I will be buying this game a year from today because like me and many others I felt screwed and I would not be a tool. In the mean time I will be watching the exciting streams, playing SSFIV AE 2012, and playing Skyrim.
@Catalyst No prob. At least you put up the links to news that could be helpful to newcomers. I don't wanna go back in the archives just to look for it. ^^
Not all the changes are up to date... Hsien-Ko does have jump-cancelability on her 6M and 6H, for instance.
small sons like #7 don't realize this is the way things have always been. Starting from sf2 there was a new game every year till 1999. Not sure why your feeling screwed considering that back in the good ol days new at games were sometimes $75 to $80. Anyone remember ssf2? I'd rather yearly refreshes than ten years of stagnation
Akumous... You won't buy the game cause you are not a fan. I am happy to buy UMVC3 on day one and it is going to be GREAT. Go post your scrubby way of thinking elsewhere dude...
skyrim sucks. The game-play is stupid and it gets boring very quickly. And the worst part is, you waste all that time doing quests and when it's all over you'll realize that you wasted a lot of precious time. That's how I feel about a lot of games. Especially when I was still hooked on WOW. That's why I like fighting games. You play when you want and you don't have to invest a lot of time to lvl up, etc.
@11: Because only true fans buy the same game less than 9 months after the first release, and viciously attack anyone who doesn't like spending as much money on fighting games.
boomstickah & EdgeMasterr:
In the 1990s internet didn't have that level of technology as we have today so that argument isn't valid. SSFIV approach for AE wasn't a bad option and it is an option I support. But releasing a game nine months after its predecessor release isn't cool. Do you realize that we still don't have the record option like we have SSFIV? SSFIV still have better online options for recording and analyzing matches, but I guess that won't happen until UMVC3 AE edition.
I chose not to purchase the game on day one because I didn't like Capcom's business move. I will, however, get the game at a later date where it is much cheaper and probably by then we'll have Megaman and Venom joining the roster.
@15: Every single review site ever and thousands of Oblivion/Fallout fans disagree. Some people get a thrill out of the role playing element and what flexibility it gives you, among other things.
All I'm gonna say, as this is grossly off topic.
More on topic, though, does anyone know if Capcom has announced a date for H&H's release? Or is it still just "post launch"?
People please quit falling for the trolls... (like comment #7)
Man I look forward to the day when people recognize a troll, read his/her comment, don't reply to it and move along.
Making the troll's comment pointless and he'll understand from being ignored that no one cares about his comment or thoughts and that we know he is trolling. (bet money he buys it day 1)
but I'm not holding my breath for that and I understand that I have feed him with this comment.
On topic:
Can't wait to get my hands on the new Jill!! tho I'm salty they nerfed her. I'm going to find a corner to cry more now...
I got my copy this morning, spent the day playing. Some notes:
- Wolverine is still very, very much a threat. His nerfs really don't affect his viability as a character whatsoever. Anybody that was playing him before won't have any problem carrying him over if they so wish.
- She-Hulk is near useless now. Her slide is pathetic (and looks that way, too; the animation looks very awkward when you do it and watch it come out as you execute it--hard to explain, but you'll see, She-Hulk players). Her new move (the lamp swing) is somehow even more horrendous. It's absolutely useless in every sense as far as I can tell right now. One issue is that, thanks to the way the dropkick leans forward now, anytime you do the Runner's Start into the special now, you'll very, very often end up on the wrong side during the second hit. All in all, she went from great point character to someone you aren't going to see in tournament play very often.
- All of the new characters are actually quite fun, but some are actually surprisingly technical compared to much of the old cast. You'll need to spend a lot of time in the lab to take them up as mains, I suspect.
- Iron Fist is a lot of fun to play, but it can be hard to find openings (one difficulty is that his crouching C into special whiffs on the launcher). It feels good to hit a full combo with him, though.
- Dr. Strange is great except he doesn't really have a lot of options against rushdown characters like Wolverine. It felt a little like playing Dhalsim, actually. If you can't keep them out or find an opening (which can be a little difficult on smaller characters due to his height), you're not going to last long. I'm not sure how he's going to utilized in the future. Definitely will be interesting to see how he turns out... (His third assist is great for any type of team, to note)
- The Akuma nerfs have made him a lot less good, but... not unusable. The tatsu assist was hit extremely hard, so Capcom definitely delivered on that. The thing is: Several characters have assists that can replace him now. Iron Fist's third assist has a somewhat similar effect that results in a wall bounce that worked fine for my purposes. Of course, Frank West and the shopping cart is also very deadly.
- Nemesis is a beast. I suspect he's going to become a tournament fixture immediately. The only drawback he has is that whiffs of his main hyper seem extremely punishable.
- Ghost Rider is very fun to play as, as is Nova. Nova will take some time to get used to, but with Ghost Rider, you can basically hop right in and get to work. He operates much the same as most of the old characters do.
- Chun-Li's buffs have made her better, but have they made her tournament-ready? I'm not sure. Due to the way hitstun instantly starts in this game, even when you use her new OTG, there's really only time for a few more hits and the hyper. Don't take that as me selling that change short, though. This has turned her into an actual character, as she can now get 500k combos with ease (so, basically the baseline for basic combos with virtually all other characters).
- Hawkeye is an interesting case. I had a lot of fun messing around with him, but I wasn't able to really get very many damaging combos going. His zoning is ridiculous, nonetheless. Even if you don't put the time in with him, you could still compete just by using his various arrows (along with his two flips) correctly. He's good, but maybe not for newcomers? Hard to say, really.
Overall, the hitstun in this game kicks in -very- early. A lot of old loops that I tried really don't work very well anymore, and if they do, you usually have to -really- be on point and you can't use them for as long before they pop out (a required change, in my opinion).
If anyone has any questions, I'll check back in tonight and see what I can answer.
I don't get why people like 7 and 16 look at this just like a rehash that isn't worth 40. They added so much to this game. I would pay 60 for it. And 7 replied with the whole "we didn't have internet back then" argument and said that AE was fine, so I assume he supports DLC. What's the difference with paying for 4 characters and rebalancing for 15, or 12 characters and rebalancing with multiple engine changes and numerous gameplay mode additions and updates for 40? Seth already said they had to work with both Capcom AND Marvel's various project deadlines. 9 months is fine, and if you were an actual fan that played the game, you probably got more than your money's worth compared to most games as far as time logged playing it.
Why wouldn't you pay $40 to get an improved version of mvc3. they're balancing the game, they're adding new characters, if you looked at tournament footage, it was all looking the same: magneto rom combos, wolverine bnb's for days, & dark phoenix bull**** wins. stop being poor.
Shouldn't it be 38? Unless you're counting Galactus....
