As much as I respect JWong, I can't help but remember how accurate he was with his previous predictions on balance and tiers. Eg: Adon in SSF4, Yang in SSF4 AE and Storm in MVC3. So I'll wait a month or two after the game drops and then decide if Vergil is cheap or not
oh what the FFFFFFF my first team in vannila was Wolv X23 and Wesker with Akuma, Ryu, and Dante on the side and 5/6 turned out to be OP so i dropped Akuma and Wolv because they were too good and Dante everyone and their mother used him so he got eliminated leaving me with Ryu, X23, and Wesker and now i find out that Vergil who i planned to use is the best out of the new bunch with Strider my other character i planned to use is also very good? wtf atleast Nova will be mid tier.... hopefully not many people will play Nova..
I know Rocket Raccoon is over-hyped and he's not gonna be as good as people are saying but I'm still gonna play with him. I'm thinking Zero, Rocket Raccoon, and Storm or Captain America. We shall see, so stoked!

Are you really THAT concerned with whether or not a member of your team is overused? Who cares, especially as long as your whole team isn't overused, choose who you like and who you can win with, not who makes you the most unique.

I don't disagree with you, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't pick a character just because other people like him/her too, it DOES mean however that you should branch out and try characters that haven't been explored. Don't limit yourself.
@4 these are only early predictions. use who you want until the overusing or OPness actually gets on your nerves. you cant just base a tier placement by someone who only has an early look at the game. give it some time.

What's the deal with people being beta about your characters being overused? You and and at least 5000 other people probably share the same characters. If "your" character is overused, it must be for good reason because they're good characters. And that's all the more reason to use them. Sorry if your team isn't "unique and special."

I play characters that I like which is why I'm already planning on a team of Nemesis, Chun Li, and Strider. I'd still like to have an alternate team with Vergil. Not because he looks like an amazing character, or cheap even (he's got weaknesses so I don't really consider him cheap, just good), it's just because I want to play him.

You're right. But if you beat someones overused character with another overused character you'll undoubtedly hear from them after the match. Like clockwork.
Top overused characters im guessing are Vergil, Strider, Wesker, and Strange. Those are the people im 100% sure will be overused. Dante is still lingering in my thoughts but i think we will see a little less of him but still a crap ton, same with Wolverine. My main characters are gonna be Arthur, Raccoon, Dormammu, Iron Fist, Doom, Spencer, Dog, Phoenix W., Ghost, Firebrand,Zero, and Nemesis. Im not gonna touch any character outside of that. And Arthur, Raccoon, and Doom will always be a part of any team I mix and match. I give a sh!t about tiers. And I love zoning.
Have the game, he is right. I am experimenting with Team Teleport, because I planned to use it too along with 100,000 people :). The three of them work so well together I'd even call it broken. Will it be overused? Maybe. Do I give a ****? HELL NO! Still gonna rock it, but I have my secondary team of Storm/Iron Fist/Dormammu on the ready for when I encounter this team.
Also, I think peolpe are overreacting about Vergil, Japan is calling him the best in the game, Justin Calling him Best new character. It's crazy.

Oh I gotcha, I really did get the "BTW?" part. But yeah, my friend is a big Green/Red Lantern fan and he said so far Red is meh and Green is pretty good.

@FShoryu Ah good to know. International competition always brings more hype to comeptative gaming imo anyways, good to see that Tokido and others in Japan are still giving it a chance. Now are they just speculating he's the best based on what they've seen or have they gotten some hands on time with it. With all the North American UMvC 3 content thats been flooding the webs recently its easy to forget that people have gotten the chance to play this in other parts of the world already. XD
@4 I understand what you are saying, it does annoy me when everyone picks the same team or everyone has at least 1 out of a (Select # of Top tier in their team) but try Vergil if that's who you want to try. I try to go for a unique team all the time myself, I never try to run with a team that everyone picks, I remember in the early tournaments of Vanilla MVC everyone and their mother had Sent, Storm, Mag, team or at least 1 of the 3 in their team. I never understood how some people get hyped watching 2 players go at it with each other using the same team, sure one player might use that character a little different than the next but you can be only be as diverse with that particular character as the character allows you to. I use to cheer for the player who had a team that was going up against the normal high tier team because that person is trying to make something work with that team if he/she loses with that unique team at least they gave a attempt to go for it, it see the potential in that team.
I don't beileve he has the audacity to use the word cheap granted Rufus was underused but he was one of the cheapest characters in SSFIV this is why I honestly pay no mind to "pro gamers" the say things like this but then tournament time they (not all) use some of the cheapest characters EVER screw all this tier list crap a character should be picked based off if the player is feeling the character or not not because there " A or GOD tier" this is the only thing that disgusts me about the FGC
i agree with number 3. he may be pro but that doesnt mean all his words are concrete and what not. he has had some wrong predictions and such people didnt all switch to yang and win 1st place Adon is not @$$ and idk he still does play very good but lately these past 13 months there have been alot of people beating him real good in both SF and Marvel so yea.....
but it is nice to see his inuput for a game that aint officially out yet :)

As much as I respect Justin Wong as a player, he says that Vergil is cheap and Iron Fist is hard to win with. Well...why is it in Max's video, Justin basically destroyed both Max and FLoE's Vergil with little to no trouble using Iron Fist; therefore, I'd have to see something completely different to tell me that these statements are true.
I still plan to use Strider, Chun and Vergil as one of my main teams; and Ghost Rider is another character I plan to use.

completely agree! only reason i main ryu is not because alot pick him its because i feel how useful he is just all around which is what i need because i hate feeling the fact that whoever i play is limited or i just dont like them. i gotta be satisfied completely as if im buying a brand new car ( cept i can always switch my character(s) for free of course)
im just losing faith in some pro gamers now because things have changed since most people who are serious but arent pro can even lay the smackdown on some pros and what not and just the excuses in general that are getting old like "ae doesnt interest me" or "i dont have enough time to practice in ae" are just examples of lame excuses he has used . if i wanna hear that ill listen to anybody who just doesnt wanna improve!
I like picking teams with characters i like not teams with characters other people pick thats just boring and not fun at all for me.
None of the new characters appeal to me outside of RR and I don't think he'll fit my team (Jill/Ryu/Arthor) and I'm one of those "I hate using overused characters" its boring to me and I have way more fun using the characters that aren't on every team and building a good team around them.
To the comment that said Felcia will be overused because Justin think she's good I can promise you that she won't.
Well back in Vanilla my team had Deadpool/Zero/Hisen-ko and that team is unique and caught plenty of people off guard. Especially Hisen-ko lol Now in Ultimate I might go with Zero/Hisen-ko/Doom or a good viable character. Opinions?

J Wong cam use Iron Fist to own a Floe and Marn who were playing Phoenix Wright, Rocket Raccoon, Nemesis etc for the first time, and maybe a Max who never was that good of a player, but the limits of Iron Fist are obvious. He probably knows that on the long run Iron Fist is a character that will have a ton of terrible matchups where he can't get in. So him saying that Iron Fist is hard to win with is probably 100% accurate.
I'm thinking Ghost Rider/Vergil/X-23 or Iron Fist.

@Krownclown I play whoever FEELS right. For example, SF4 my main is Makoto she is low position in high tier (and probably will drop a little in 2012) but she feels fun and I like her character. I didn't know until recently that my 2 fav CvS2 characters were high tier (Hinata and Rock). However my team in MvC2 is a mix of popular and unpopular characters. I like Captain Commando/Hayato/Jin (Sometimes I swap out Jin for either Strider or SonSon). Taokaka is my favorite Blazblue character and I'm sure she is super popular
I think it shouldn't matter how popular your character is. But don't act like your character isn't popular when they are.
To be honest im glad PW is not potentially OP, means more fun for me. IT gets boring when everyone uses the same character. I had wanted to use Vergil, now im upset everyone wants to play him. I'll still play him though but im gonna get a lot of hate mail.

Us casual players can pick unique teams and such because we are having fun with the game. It's just a fact of fighting games that when people try to win, originality goes out the window. If Daigo wanted to be original he would've stuck with Ryu in AE but he switched to Yun because had to win for his sponsorship.

Honestly is anyone REALLY surprised at the comments about Vergil? As soon as his gameplay videos were released, it was clear as day to me that he would be one of the best as long as they didn't change him from those videos til release (doesn't seem like they did). He has a tracking teleport, long range normals, ability to make normals safe, good damage & hypers (sword hyper + teleports + assists = trouble), etc. I'm not surprised by this at all.
@45 - many people at tournaments are playing to win. they're gonna pick the character that they feel gives them the best chance to win whether they "feel" the character or not.
@49 - eh, he has said a couple times that he doesn't practice AE at all anymore. he focuses his time on marvel. You can blast him for that.
@54 - agree about Iron Fist. I'd like to use him regardless, but I can see him getting zoned incredibly easy.
i've been playing this game all weekend, got my early copy. what i can say is ghost rider is godlike, but his air combos are pretty terrible.
I like firebrand but hes awkward to play with... rocket racoon too.
Nemesis is an easy character to pick up and play but he will be bad in the long run due to his slow speed and size, and his wave dash isn't even that good.
Don't sleep on ironfist... jwong is right, hes gonna be hard to win with but its so early on. i think he will be very potent in the long run...

No. He reminds me of Vanilla Dante, really good? Yeah. OP like Logan? No. Also, if Strider is easy for you, you are doing him very wrong. screw tiers, yea those characters are easy to use and get pro with but it is still possible to fight them off with lower tier characters, this is where the skill factor comes in
I'm thinking of a few teams already. Wolverine/Iron Fist/Shopping Cart for herp derp rushdown. Wolverine might be X-23 if her scythe->talon ends up as good as Justin says. But basically it's just going to be a basic rushdown herp derp no think team.
For keepaway, I'm thinking Ghost Rider/Dorm and then the third could be Hulk anti-air assist or Doom missiles or maybe even Beam. The problem is that I'm stuff at extended combos and playing Doom would make me have to actually practice this game. There's also the possibility of Rider/Raccoon/Dorm for Raccoon log assist and Doom as anchor, but I don't know how good Doom is. Also, Strange is interesting enough that I'd want to dick around with him, and even though Justin says Phoenix Wright is bad, I want to dick around with him before making judgment. In all honesty, he'll probably end up like MODOK, who could be good potentially, but most likely will be too hard to make work.
