In an excellent confirmation with Gematsu, Yoshinori Ono said that should they update Street Fighter X Tekken, it will be done in the style of Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition.Q: What do you have to say to consumers who aren’t purchasing Street Fighter X Tekken in March because they’re waiting for a ‘Super Street Fighter X Tekken‘?
Ono: If we decide to create a new version of the game, we will go with the Street Fighter IV series route, by providing online update patches for the game. So I would say that you don’t really need to worry about a new version of the game coming out. If we choose to update the game, it will be done in the same fashion as Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition [laugh].
Q: What are your goals in designing a fighting game now, after Street Fighter IV blew up? Do you design a fighter now looking at it from a competitive/tournament perspective, or for a more casual at-home type of game? (And do you aim to make them ‘e-sports friendly’?)
Ono: I always want everything, so I try to design for both competitive and casual players [laugh]. I compare tournaments to piano recitals in a way; they are places where you are judged on the skills you have learned up until that time. I’d like to keep creating these kinds of tools for competition through my game design.
But on the other hand, I’d like to get as many players as possible to try out my games. Even in my own house, the only time a fighting game disc is read by the console is when I’m sitting in front of it. No one else in my family will even touch those discs. I bet there are a lot of families out there like this [laugh]. So I’d like to create fighting games that can be enjoyed by a lot of people through my game design as well.
Tip from gam3fr33k.
Thanks God. no more "updated" discs. but still we will buy some DLCs, but they are much cheaper like less than 20 dollars.
What . . . in the HELL . . . is Ono's house like? o.O
Will buy the Auto Update Game Gem so itll auto update for me.
Thank goodness every gamer is online 24/7...oh wait.....
@1 Alright!! New planned DLC C O N F I R M E D!!!!
You guys do know that this is a smart move on Capcom's part. The majority of people who play video games play online, and I'm talking about EVERY TYPE of video game. (Shooters, fighters, RPG's, RTS's, etc.)
Can we now confirm the new characters? I've been waiting forever since those teaser trailers!
I'll just say it and get it out of the way...
Reveal Juri already and reveal Elena and Eddy or Christie for our friend on here who is a massive fan of theirs...
I'm indifferent to the gems and Juri is a gem in herself :)
Sounds like there will still be new discs, but it will be DLC for people who already own the game.
You don't get casual players to try out your game by adding complexity with things like gems. I know "back in the day" I stopped playing because of sht like -isms in Alpha 3 and stances in MK4.
If you want casual players to check out the game you need to give them a sandbox the play in. 2v2 on the screen at the same time is actually a good example of this. Another good way is to segregate the casual players from the competitive players. You could do this with gems which you unlock and level up. If this were a seporate mode competitive players simply wouldn't play it and it would allow the casual players to scrub it up, have fun, and handicap their opponent has needed.
Meh, I'd take physical copy over DLC all day. You can take the disc to a friend's house to play, or borrow it, trade it, etc. Not to mention DLC may end up costing more than a disc update anyway. Last but not least, DLC is a royal pain in the ass for tournament organizers.
Oh, and good luck trying to recover your DLC game in 5 or 10 years from now (not an unlikely scenario in the FGC). With the 360/PS3 networks long gone, you'll be lucky if there is a "2012 Classics" collection that you can download from the Xbox720/PS4 network for 100 bucks lol.
While this may seem like the obvious and smart route to go to us, it's still a well known fact that you can't sell DLC to the Japanese. Luckily their numbers are small in comparison.
@#1
Them saying "if there will be an update, it will be by DLC", that means they've prepared for one in the future in case they do have one. And be serious, whats the chance of them not having an update for that game? The game has already lost its hype at least for me with the gems and pandora. Im willing to wait 5 months or more until the game drops down in price. Not only that, when they do release DLC, i'll save money in the long run. Thats if I get the game. UMvC3, and many other games that come out this november will have me busy for a very long time.
i want a disc release. those of u who wants dlc release r not thinking throughly.
pros:
initial cost may be considerably less.
cons:
because updates r all dlcs, u could potentially be paying for evrything seperately and end up paying more.
no physical disc means.tht somewhere down the road u might have to repurchase if ur harddrive fails.
uses up a lot of storage on ur systems.
cant lend to friends or peers
cant sell or trade
difficult to utilize in tournaments and public gatherings
those tht have slow connections will have difficulty downloading gigabytes of data.
teens will not be able to purchase as it requires credit/ debit cards. this also holds true for those who dont have credit cards.
countries like japan and regions where dlc is not as popular will also miss out on future installments.
if multiple updates were made, u r forced to update to the most current patch. this is especially mandatory fo those who decides to purchase the game at a later time.
etc...
no thanks. i rather have a disc version of future installments.
Street Fighter X Tekken
Positives:
1. Street Fighter's characters battle it out with Tekken's characters.
2. Six button game-play with tons of modes of play and features.
3. Katsuhiro Harada and Yoshinoru Ono are both actively promoting the game.
4. Final roster unknown. Not all characters have been announced.
5. I personally expect the game to be a well-produced and fun title.
Fears:
1. We know so little about the gem system. Statements that gems are balanced, yet there are a hundred or so gems in the game.
2. Rumors that Capcom is still trying to figure out Pandora mode.
3. Will they be able to resolve everything, balance it all, and get this game out by March 6th, 2012?
4. What if?...Capcom pushes the game back to Summer 2012. The game is delayed for improved, game-play tweaks which we later discover are Kinect/Move support related.
I don't like this. I want the option of discs AND DLC. DLC will end one day. A disc can be used forever, so you can go back to the game sometime after the release of the next playstation/xbox. I still revisit older SF titles, especially as side projects at tournaments.
Speaking of tournaments, this is bad for them. This requires not only a disc plus DLC. That means someone can't just lend their ps3 or xbox for an event, which is how these things are run - donations - unless they have the DLC + the disc. Before, you just needed to lend a console (someone else could always bring the game, no biggie), now you need the disc + dlc as well.
I hope they reconsider the no-disc option.
@18 you do realize there is an on and offline mode of 2 vs 2 in SFxT right? The Gems have been said multiple times that they have competition in mind. Dispite doubts and fears of the system. No one played it so no one knows. End of story. Lets wait.
Also Casual gaming has a lot to do with control, not systems or gameplay gimmicks. Something Nintendo has already made a breakthrough with. You can see this now with
Microsoft and Sony's adoption to motion control the most simplest form of control in gaming.
Most hardcore frown upon this but fact is people love to dance, and people love to move. Everyone does'nt like sitting on their ass and doing nothing but moving their thumbs. Your more likley to get your girlfriend/wife and family to play games like this then doing a FT10 and watching streams
The goal is to bring casals in hopes they become hardcore and it starts with babysteps so you can't blame companies for trying, especially in fighters where something like casual play is hard to come by.
Geez you guys complained about the updated versions of SF4 and MvC3 being disc-only instead of DLC and now you just want them to keep it that way?I don't get this fanbase anymore...
@33
Most people's complains about those disc updates were just knee jerk reactions without actually analyzing the pros and cons. I, for one, don't mind having a DLC option, but for all the reasons already mentioned in previous posts, it's always a good thing to have a disc-based option available too.
Ono needs this game to turn into another capcom fighting jam so he can lose his job.
I will buy discs still because if they (Capcom) don't make money, then don't make new fighters for us to play.
DLC is much more cost-effective FOR THE COMPANY. Overhead like packaging and shipping are the most expensive parts of releasing a game. Furthermore, Capcom loses profit to stores like Gamestop which capitalize on used game sales. Switching to DLC is much smarter for Capcom because not only can they eliminate the middleman that eats into their profits when they release paid updates, but they also cut out the most expensive part of selling a video game. I don't like it though because DLC is not a physical thing and it can be lost and essentially not replaced.
@40
What is being added to UMvC3 that improves the "piece of junk" that MvC3 is, in your opinion?
Is it because Phoenix and Wolverine are nerfed? That spectator mode is added? The extra characters?
Because none of the changes added drastically alter the core experience, in my opinion. All these changes do is enhance an existing game, one that must not have been "junk" if it wasn't completely overhauled.
Just a thought. Feel free to disagree.
What i did not understand, is how he "dodged" the question there, at least i think so, he was asked to what he would say to the consumers who would not buy SFxT, to wait for SSFxT.
He said they would go with the SFIV series route, i read there, 2 more versions.... (altough he clearly ment the AE DLC/Disk option, wich its still not as the same as SF to SSF)
then he completes the sentence with "providing patches online"
so wait... has AE received noticable patches? i dont play so thats why im asking, and what does patches have to do with a "new" version.
Was not SSF4 released as a seperate game, because the changes and patches were just too big and too "complicated" (whatever the terms they used back then) to just put into a patch or normal DLC?
so as i see it, he only meant like the AE case, but AE did bring good changes, but nothing like SSF4 brought to SF, or UMVC is bringing to MVC
so i would like to think, that "for once" this is a "normal" game, like BlazBlue for example, where game comes out, then they add stuff, cuz its possibel to do so. meaning also that the game would be "complete" enough not requiring great work to be modified and expanded.
(note that BlazBlue is not the ebst example, as i do notlike to pay X amount for asingle character. i dont like DLC/expansions, but 15-20 bucks for 4 chars, a few stages and wtver, seems good)
And i also have the concern, for those who pay DLC, to when the PS3/XBOX360 servers are offline and such, all that wasted money.
but i can only imagine, that Console Producers, would bring PSN and XboxLive to the next generation, so people wont loose, what they bought forever.
sucks about that tourney scene you guys mentioned tough...
TL;DR version: Read.
It all comes down to how much price you are willing to put on your willingness to play a new fighter. I, for one, am sick of teenagers that say they will be waiting for the ultimate version. If you feel like spending it, do it. If you dont, then dont. Stop trolling the community with your gow-awful comments.
It's already Super Street Fighter x Tekken by the way, look at how many recycled SSF4 characters are in this game it's laughable, pure laziness I say. And I agreed on that Ono is dodging the question there on the first one, it was meant to ask him about the behavior that capcom keeps giving out half-made games and put what should be in the game in the first place as DLC content or include them in the next upgrade.
@50 So you believe that Vanilla and SSFIV were halfmade games because AE and version 2012 were released afterwards? Because that sounds like the logic behind that argument: that the existence of an upgrade means the original version must have been incomplete.
If that is your reasoning then I disagree. If not, then what brings you to that conclusion?
Phuck YES! Ono knows what we want! He's awesome and this just shows that he listened to what we meant about the disc updates! :D
In b4 people misread the title into thinking that a new version of the game is confirmed and already planned as DLC.
