Capcom's Ryan McDougall participated in an interview with the Post-Gazette that covered Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The piece mostly recaps known details about the game, but towards the end, Ryan talks a bit about what gamers can expect from Heroes and Heralds mode, including how the online and offline play will work.
TrainsAllTalk Asks: There are a lot of the questions about the new "Heroes and Heralds" mode. Is it a multiplayer mode?
Ryan McDougall: Heroes and Heralds mode is playable both online and offline. Playing online, you will compete in a weekly war between factions, and every battle counts. That mode is definitely multiplayer, and every online match you win will be rewarded with a new ability card. The offline mode has a bit of a territory-conquest vibe to it, where you’ll be fighting for control over different factions on a map in a single-player campaign.
Gaining a card for EVERY win!
I'll be playing this for ages because I love collecting so damn much.
My question is....can you stack and collect multiple cards?
Like an attack boost card you have 2 of, can you use them both.
this mode isn't for the hitting the lab types. This is a mode for the hitting the guide types. This is the mode where you go: how can I gloss over all that makes my character weak? despite all that you still won't be dominating, because there is thousands of players doing the exact same thing with the 47 other characters you didn't pick. I cannot wait.
anyone else think the galactus logo looks like a long sleeve shirt upside down?
It is my honor to serve Galactus. Kiss your planets goodbye, insects!
(ok, i might be a little too hyped)
TIERS ARE FOR QUEERS. HEROES AND HERALDS LAUGHS AT S-TIER. NOW EVERYONE CAN BE GOD TIER! Super excited and super pumped for this new mode.

Another Netcode question?
It only matters from YOUR PLACE. A random house is not gonna tell you exactly what YOUR speed, location and provider will put out.
i love the whole online part even mor reason to get on and deal with scrubby stuff but its coo my game is tight and my execution is good lets go and see how long it takes to get them all and countdown 12 MORE DAYS
That deffinately sound more fun with the online function!
Come to think about it, the heroes and haralds mode is basicly the same way SFxT is working with the gems..
The only major difference is, that this is a mode that is available to enjoy without being forced to it!
Capcom couldn't you just do the same with SFxT.. please..
omg...hulk with projectile invincibility....*shudder*
@26 I still feel like they have a better approach with HnH though
So, you only get cards if you win online? What if you suck or are stuck playing elite players who know how to abuse the cards they have and you never win because there is no balance? Just curious.
H&H its a term that it won't be balance i wonder how the heavy would have extra armor and thats not balance thats playing overpowered all over again but anyways its just a fun mode to play soo don't take heroes and heralds soo serious when playing it
anyways is there gonna be more modes instead of HH and boss mode(galactusmode)????
Hey thanks for checking out my interview. I'm looking for follow-up interview questions. Contact me via twitter @gameguypgh if you have more questions about UMvC3.
This is looking solid. The conquest factor is something I've wanted to see as a single player alternative for a long time while the cards themselves is a great way to go about getting around requests like one on one and improved defense.
@4: I side with whoever suits me best. But the Heralds is what I wish for.
@ 29
Then, You will have to buy them later as...say it with me...

@30 This mode is not designed for you to win all the time. With the many combination of characters your bound to run into a few rare players with some nasty cards and top tier cahracters that can use them. Just practice and get better or play offline.
@29: I'm fairly positive I read that you have the opportunity to unlock cards in the single player mode as well.
I personally hope they open that offline mode to include two player competative play. Kind of like Star Wars Battlefronts II where you and a friend fought over planetary regions with a bunch of individual battles. That would be so tight.
Wwwwait does this mean Offline Heroes and Heralds is single-player only? 'Cause that'd suck.
