EuroGamer got a short quote from Capcom's Seth Killian on when we can expect Street Fighter 5. It reads:
"If I have anything to say about it, and I do, you will not have to wait ten years for Street Fighter 5," Killian said. "It will be before 2019. Now I'm going to be fired for promising Street Fighter 5 before 2019. I think I should be OK. We'll see. They'll do 2020 just to screw me and make me look like an ass."
What would you like to see in Capcom's Street Fighter 5? Leave a comment below with your thoughts.
Tip from Rafael2487.
Ok! My watch is set for 2019. SF5 talk is so sweet to my ears.
Lets see Charlie come back from the grave.
Super Street Fighter V for year 2020 on Xbox 4 a.k.a Xbox Metro.
I shall be waiting if I'm not already dead.
If he's certain that people will wait that long, then Seth Killian can go fcuk is own arse. What I've observed is that titles which are released yearly/alt yearly, manage to sell in decent nos and hold a grip on gamers. for instance COD or fifa...no matter how sh!tty they are, they are successful.
But see what happened to SF. It was one of the most successful games back then, but eventually people forgot about it. Even though SFIV series sold in decent nos, it never got its previous fanbase or glory back.
By the year 2019, a lot of fighting games would be in picture making it highly unlikely for SF5 to stand out.
Replace Ryu as the main character with someone fresh and new, make Ryu take up Akuma's old spot. He should only challenge the player when you beast through arcade mode with a bunch of perfects or whatever. Also, he should have a full on beard and mustache at this point. And throw in Guile's Daughter, but give her some moves from uncle Ken.
Street Fighter V will be a celebration of all the Street Fighter games before it. It will have super arts (5 per character), ultras (5 per character), V-ism type combos, parries, Alpha counters, EX special moves, mashable combos, chargeable specials into supers, Pandora type modes, and gems (thousands of them) that have more granular customizability than what Capcom is planning for SFxT. ;-)))
I don't really want a SF5 (Well actually I do) what i'd really want is an Ultimate Street Fighter with every character that has graced every Street Fighter game (Except the Arika one for obvious reasons).
I'd like to be able to equip various moves (for example Ken's headbutt and roll from SFA and Ken's super art from SF3 and his 2nd Ultra from SSF4). For characters with little appearances in the SFU you could add moves from similar characters (Example Sean could get a Hadouken under the assumption he mastered it from Ken).
Yeah I'd like to see something like that.
Steer fighter 5?! OMG get hype! When do you think they'll make SF6?!
@5
No way. If they released a new Street Fighter every year people would get burnt out and the fan base would become divided quickly, which would lessen the appeal in the competitive scene. The reason people stopped playing Street Fighter for ten years is because there was no way to play them against other players. Arcades started disappearing and fighting games are just now starting to figure out how to do online well.
Plus between Alpha 3, 3rd Strike, MvC2 and CvS2 Capcom fighting games began to only appeal to the most hardcore players. Which would be fine if there were enough hardcore fans to make it worth developing a new game, but unfortunately that's just not the case. SF4 revitalized fighting games to the casual market, but they won't pick up a new one every year.
#5 really? Street Fighter IV has the biggest fanbase yet, the attendance at tournaments is ridiculus and the number of people who watch it on the stream is too, and those are only the ones that really fell in love with the franchise. A lot more are playing quitly at home and even more bought it because of the fuss around it, and maybe never actually got into it.
Mechanics: Guard meter, no comeback mechanisms, more command normals, some sort of impact system (someone dashing into an attack should take more damage), maybe a roll mechanism, and so on.
Characters: Elena and a quick grappler. As few World Warriors as possible. More characters with fight styles based on real life.
Art style: Not sure. Let us customize our characters though. No weird looking characters like Blanka, Oro, and Hakan. Give everyone pupils.
I've had a busy day... this should be enough.
What I'd like to see change for SF5
- No added input delay
- More violent, not sucking up to get a G-rating
- Less blindingly colorful stages with rainbow umbrellas in them
- Blood, about the same amount as in SF2
- No return of SF2 Ryu music
- Please tone down the crowd reactions from the fight when big moves happen, it is way way way overdone in sf4
- And most importantly... Bring back the drinking guy from Zangief's stage in SF2, and the "hold button to speed up animation and go to next round" feature, which makes the guy drink faster
..all I can think of for now..
A truly good online mode, designed from the ground up. From the first day they sit down to talk about SF5, they should think "How should we build the engine so that it provides an online experience that is as good as playing offline?" That is the only way any of these game will have an online mode that is better than "okay".
i'm probably going to give it three years before why see 5. why? think. sfxt will most likely have a 1 year cycle before some type of dlc hits it as "game changing" IE ssf4 AE. after that what could happen in two years to keep the series pumping? a new game. if anybody remembers correctly, DOA 4 came out 2005. any body actually care about it after two years? nope. didn't get any type of structure until a 3ds ver. came out. and that's 6 years forgotten. and i highly doubt Seth or Ono want that kind of history.
For SF5, I want to see more people giving explanations to their suggestions instead of just short phrases. The explanations should include reasons as to why the suggestions would be beneficial to everyone instead of just themselves. Hopefully, this will cut down on the useless suggestions and encourage more fruitful ideas in the community.
Too bad this is the internet but one can dream, can't he?
@11
Ryu SHOULD have a beard. This was drawn by Capcom Artist Akiman: http://bit.ly/onAC6A
The beard adds a maturity and further separates him from Ken. Also resembles Musashi, the samurai that Ryu is based off of. His storyline should take a new step and show his training with Oro.
We asked Ono about this and he seems to think Ryu looks too old with it. Um too old... if you're thinking SF5 takes place anytime before SF3. wtf
And the art should go back to the cool realistic style of SF3. Realism + anime style. CG Endings.
@Darcias89
You do know Charlie isn't dead right?
After Alpha 3 Charlie blows up Shadowloo headquarters in a effort to kill Bison but was unsuccessful (sorta). They never found Charlies body after the investigation.
Also, Abel was found by someone that was able to do a Sonic Boom. You kinda learn this from Guile and Abel's rival fight. You may want to argue that Abel recognizes the sonic boom because Seth has one and Abel being a failed body replacement for Bison, you can say he saw Seth do one at S.I.N. But read SF wiki and it says that Abel was saved by an American military man, more than likely Charlie if you add everything up.
And everyone that really cares about these our beloved SF characters knows Guile visits Charlies grave every year but it is an empty grave.
Am I the only one who reads up Street Fighter history?
Wait she doesn't already have one as an alt? Capcom how could you?
There is a SF5 suggestions thread on capcom-unity. Like @28 said, throw in some specific ideas. Some of the ideas on Capcom unity scare me, contribute useful ideas over there.
***
- More than 2 character specific Intros: -
I'd like to see more of the character specific intros when we play, not just the rivals. It just keeps it interesting. Like the character you play, has more connections than two characters (rivals.) It'd be great to visually see what each character thinks of the other. It doesn't have to be long, like a rival intro, just some acknowledgement.
***
- Different sets of Camera Angles for Ultras (Does NOT affect gameplay): -
Hear me out. Instead of one set of camera moves when your character does an Ultra, it'd be nice to have more than one set of cool camera moves. This way, when you do the Ultra, it isn't always the same looking animation / camera choreography. Does NOT affect gameplay - same striking distance / hitbox distance, same frame data, only thing that changes is the cinematic vibe when the move connects. (And I don't mean the camera flies around and does whatever it wants. Let's say you pick Ultra 1. When the Ultra hits, the camera will go into either one of 2 sets of camera moves. The in-game models are doing the same thing each time, it's just the camera will go into one set of camera moves. So when that beastly player scores the Ultra finish in the tournament grand finals, you still never know which cinematic will show.)
***
- Different win animations for Super, Ultra, Perfect Finishes: -
Each little animation can tell a bit about the character. If you finish the opponent with a Super or Ultra (as opposed to a normal or special) you would get a different post-fight animation. Same with Perfects. Like a mini reward for finishing with super, ultra, or perfect. Same goes for if the match was super-super close. It could show your character panting hard and showing /saying something that offers respect
***
- CG Endings!: -
Remember those awesome SF4 promotional teaser/trailers Capcom made. With Ryu vs Ken, Gouken vs Akuma, and Chun vs Cammy? Why not have endings of that calibur for when you beat the game? If you're still a fan of the anime style SF4 endings, they could incorporate both.
***
Not exactly updates for the strategy aspect of the game, but things here and there that spice the game up and make it feel new each time you play.
Okay I'm just kidding but here's what I want...
I think the series has been great with keeping things fresh and fun e.g. Parry, reversals in Alpha, Focus attacks, etc.
What I want is a command that makes you cancel a move like focus attack canceling but expends health instead of meter. That way people will have to be more cautious if they want that extra damage. I'd also like some fresh new faces along with every other fighter in every other SF game except for Akira. I want a wall bounce system that's better implemented than SSF4. I'd like to see a better online mode (not that I think it's all that bad anyway). I'd love an option to customize a fighter but that's wishful thinking. I'd also like more of a realistic feel but not in sense of blood, but like in clothes e.g. You get hit with a fireball and your clothes start to burn and such; kinda like what Mortal Kombat does. That's all I can think of right now.
I think Chun lis adopted kids (especialy her daughter) from 3rd strike would make a fine addtion to SF5 hope that girl that has "Thunder thighs" like miss lee ;)
Ono-Too Old=We want a generic age ALL ages can like.
A beard says close to 30 only while no beard means he's in his 20's and thats the age we want most of our stars to be.
Eventhough Ryu clearly has no job or home he's always perfectly groomed.
Get rid of the SF3/SF4 series "target combos" and go back to SFZ1's "chain combos". Get rid of SF4's "focus attacks" and put NOTHING like it in a SF game, ever again. The same goes for parries. One other great mechanic from SFZ series was the "zero/Alpha counter" - NOT the crappy one from SFZ3, where you do it by hitting toward + two buttons, but the classic way, where it's rolling back-to-down + a punch for a high alpha counter and kick for a low one. No more of this "choose ONE super art or ultra" crap - let everyone have ALL of their three or four SUPER moves like they did in the SFZ series.
WHY do I reference mechanics from the SFZ series so much...? --Because while SF2 did a great job, where everything REALLY started in arcade fighting games, the SFZ series did so much better. SFZ1 and SFZ2 were done right. SFZ3 may have had the biggest, "bestest" roster, but the "ism" stuff confused too many people that I TRIED to get into the game, so that I could have people to play with, AND they screwed up everyone's theme music, endings, stages, and overall personalized place in the game. In SF3, characters shared stages, their theme music and endings weren't very memorable, and the roster lacked what people wanted to "keep" in the SF series, and put in too many odd characters that just didn't feel right for a SF game.
The whole picking of ONE ultra or super art in later games in the story makes some characters seem like they're dumbed down, as if some of them FORGOT how to do some of their moves in later parts of the story.
Sure, I don't expect Ryu to go back to using BEAMS from the versus series, because that isn't part of his canon - the versus series is just a "what if" story. -But when his Shinkuu Hadouken looks considerably weaker in SF3 than it did in the SFZ series, I find it kind of silly.
Keep the original world warriors in the SF games until the end of time, and save from having to TEASE us, whether or not they'll even be revealed. Each character represents a part of the SF-playing population that DARES to try to play something different, by keeping an open mind, unlike the usual "shoto players". I play every single one to some degree of proficiency, in most of their games, so I like them all (Just saying I'm not hatin'.). Bring back the SFZ play style of Vega/Dictator, and give him back his cool cape! Stop teasing over Nash's/Charlie's possible survival, and reunite him with his buddy, Guile already. The poor guy has spent too much of his time searching for a ghost and teasing him with Abel's recognition of the Sonic Boom made me feel bad for him, when he actually saw/remembered Seth performing the move. Gen's OLD haircut from SFZ - bring it back! Instead of SFV, make SFZ4, so we can have EVERYONE in the game from SF1 to SSF4, so you can finally satisfy EVERY player who's wanting this guy or this gal to finally be matched up against this guy or this gal - it'll reduce the whining and salinity from butthurt "MEGAMAN" whiners.
I've always said this, and I might make a video about it but ... customize characters. But not like you might think ...
If I pick Ryu, he should play like Ryu but I should be able to completely customize the character to be a black girl/ white guy/ whatever.
You would always know it's Ryu because everything in his playstyle would be the same and his stance would be ryu but now it's really MY character. And at tournaments I can download that character by typing in it's name and a password, which would be really fast if you make it simple. Plus, then people can trade the character around since win/loss would be saved to your xbox/ps3 account and the character is just a fun toy anyone could try if they had the password.
There's more, but that's one way that would really make people feel connected to the game in a way fighters have never been able to. Create a fighter's never work because there's too much customizing, but since this never changes the base character, the idea makes more competitive sense. If I like the look of Sakura but the playstyle of blanka, I should be able to make that character. And of course I'm not just talking put Blanka in a dress, I mean make his whole character model into my style while retaining all moves, stances and boxes.
in SFV i'd like to see a kind "sequel" to 3rd Strike like Street Fighter IV was for Street Fighter II. leave the parry system in or out, but i'd vote for bringing it back. but do amazing sprites for the graphics PLEASE. i love the look of 3rd strike and how smooth it is, but imagine what they could do now!!! it would be so sick. i know it makes things harder in development but it would be a great throwback done well. i can dream.....
^ #41
I think it would be cool to pick from more than one Ultra / Super. Idk what mechanic they have in mind. If its like SF4 and you have a useful Super plus a useful Ultra, I wouldn't mind that.
Maybe be able to have 2-3 ultras, but make it so that they can't be linked together and do damage scaling so that they dont do GIANT dmg as in SF4. I loved the damage attribution in SFIII. Moves that are harder to connect with tended to do a lot more damage, where as the other Supers did good dmg and were a part of your arsenal, not the end all be all.
&^*( this is just PR for the SF5 hype they want us to still have 3 years from now. Seth is doing his job right.
@Asmiliz: "#5 really? Street Fighter IV has the biggest fanbase yet, the attendance at tournaments is ridiculus and the number of people who watch it on the stream is too, and those are only the ones that really fell in love with the franchise."
No. The Street Fighter II series's success dwarfed that of IV. Many of those fans never returned. SFIV is more successful than SFIII, of course, but that isn't saying much.
I don't think this would be too hard.
They already have a decent foundation in AE.
Really all that's left is to pretty it up a little...
i.e. Like a lot of people have already pointed out - CG intros and endings, add every character from the official capcom street fighter universe (IMHO there aren't too many of them left to add as it is) and just age them all.
Now just tie up all the endings...
I'd like SF5 to be set in 2010 or so possibly having Mel as a Sean/Sakura (Shoto-Lite) type character. Then have Sean (or Mel) and Sakura as Ken and Ryu and have Ken and Ryu as Gouken and Akuma. I'd also like a lot of the younger characters (Makoto and Ibuki) making an appearance as older accomplished characters (Makoto as a full Rindo-Kan Master without her losing her temper and Ibuki as a full fledged Ninja) or like 37 said Chun-Li's adopted child with a similar style to hers. Possibly with an older Yuri as the final boss being totally in sync with her Feng Shui Engine...or a fullpowered Oni or something similar that isn't another Gill or Seth.
It would be awesome to see some of the younger characters comeback as legacy characters taking over from the older and then supplemented by new characters.
Also I hope that the animation style will be a little lighter on the muscles. Possibly taking over from the way Ryu looks in Tatsunoko or MvC.
Honestly... I think SF has lived its life, I'll only accept an sf5 if it's either the series finale... Or a non-canon game (think KoF, where all the characters are in, in all their iterations, a.k.a. Dictator had a projectile in one game right?). If they go the finale way, I think it'd be better, cause they can end the story correctly, what else can our Ryu do in the game? I'm sure after killing gouki, he gained boss status? No longer a main char. We should follow someone else as the start of this story. But NO NEW CHARS. There are already too many random chars. For all the fans, make a robo Charlie or something, cause he seems to be loved that badly... Blame Dictator.
But after that. Restart. Make a new series. Nice. Fresh. Same universe. New faces. Old faces (but not too many). The kids from 3S should be there... (Ibuki now a proper ninja, Makoto taking over her fathers dojo, Yun and Yang doing what they do lol.)
I think that this is the best course of action, they can make new chars as weird as they like, and not have to worry about making it feel like street fighter. Cause it's not.
They can market it as such. We get. A follow up to sf. One that can be technical. Just don't give me another SF game that has made no progress at all.
Who remembers Street Fighter the Final Fight 2010? I know this is off topic but... KEVIN STRIKER for UMVC3!
(Couple things:
-Please don't listen to Hakan haters, we'll probably never see him again so I'd at least like him to have a 'FAIR' chance of getting in
-SFIV was just fine, don't listen to SFIIIStans
-Charlie is Seth. Deal with it.)
Why is it when people think of SF5 they have to imagine WAY far in the future? Like Mel already being in fighting prime age and ... someone said theyd want it to be a series finale with SF6 being completely new characters.
Wtf are you guys smoking?
SF5 could take place like 1 year after 3S! Why do the characters have to automatically grow 70 by the time of SF5?
For example Ryu is training with Oro (notice: trainING he doesnt have to be suped up and ready to like die in SF5.) Ken could be still be training Mel and Sean. Sean can be coming up in the fighting world. Characters from SF2 can return. etc etc
Just think outside the box and I hope Capcom never reads the crazy "Ah SF5 should take place in the year 3010" ideas :)
Ryu/Oro would be sweet. And I wanna see Urien too. Honestly, I liked all of the SFIII characters. But they can't stop there, they have to bring back some old school people too. Maybe they should just mash together 3S, IV, and Alpha and see what gets pooped out.
=D
I want it to be fun and have characters that people like and wont have to fight about because said character looks ugly or just isnt viable or whatever. Again a fun and good SF game. 3rd strike is kinda boring but SF 2 and SF IV are really fun :)
@ 23
People play Street Fighter for violence? I think they might have the wrong game...
Also, I FULLY agree about "the drinking guy" in 'Gief's SF2 stage. MAKE IT HAPPEN!
the main thing they should do is put every single character that has ever been in a previous street fighter game in street fighter 5. i think they should take away the ultra all together and just allow each charater 3 super arts just like in 3rd strike but instead of picking just one just allow us to use all 3 anytime we'd like in a match. that would give us more combo options in a match. a groove option would be nice for different play styles such as one allows parry and another allow fadc, ect. maybe not only classic 1v1 but a option to play 2v2 tag team like in street fighter x tekken.
Bring all characters of 3rd strike and alpha in. Give ryu an alternate form of achieving greatness not evil, evil ken and a jacked up gouken. And if new characters should be created i hope they have a fighting attitude, not some cook, oily guy concept that only wastes selection screen. I guess actual medium build fighters or more big guys that are not grapplers.
Gouki's Apprentice, Minoru Takumi for the story of The Satsui No Hado to ACTUALLY continue rather the "need" for an "Evil Ryu." Let's give Gouki someone worthy for his own Mastered Abilities to teach. His story is not as far fetched as others who are already in the Street Fighter Universe.
It's funny, many of the same request I see for SFV is EXACTY the same as SFIV when it was first announced via Trailer only. I remember the comments on capcom-Unity with major character request, system changes like from 2D to 3D or areans to 2D stages, super arts, and of course the parry system.
We are like 5 and 6 years out from that announcment and we are still asking for the same thing even though SFIV was very successful and did'nt give any of the fans what they ask, save some character returns.
Im sorry, but I think many of us will be too old to make valid suggestions, why? Well a number of us are just too old or will be for any of our suggestions to be valid.
Think about it, 2019, if thats true, what will we have, new Xbox and PS3 and the New Wii? Better more powerful processors, a new paradim shift in gaming and everyone wants to go back to 2D sprites? Ain't happening. You can cry a river of salty tears all you want, but even when it comes to fighters, innovation is more important than preservation. You can't move forward by going backwards.
@ #75
Rather be an A-shole, did you even care to read through his story or just saw I was another fan like you so insta-troll? You want to be cold, very fine by me, but once they ruin Gouki by making him STILL care for Ryu transcending his humanity, thus making his story go COMPLETELY in a circle for almost the 5th time, well you will know why.
Not suggesting 実巧 is perfect as is, but with some Official Capcom tweeking and a vast move set, why in the world would he be a negative choice? Some of you could care less for Gouki, but if you know his character at all, could you kindly point out what is so wrong? Thank You. I may not post here often, but I lurk like crazy and tend to only enter discussions of Gouki. I've wanted this for Street Fighter ever since Third Strike due to my concern for Gouki in the future. :-)
I wud like a full in depth story that tells what takes place between SF2 and Sf3 I wanna know what happened to all the characters who weren't in 3 .. Also i wud like all the characters from all the games..
# 76 Takes the cake! I seriously won't mind being 30 and playing the new Street Fighter whenever it does arrive though. I've always been rather conservative as far as what I enjoy, yet could adapt just enough to any changes in each iteration of Street Fighter. I wouldn't ever speak too much about game mechanics as I'll leave that up to their own innovations for a possible more solid game, but I can understand them taking a few notes as what type of characters or stages fan's would like to see in game.
Looking at the history of SF main series, long time fans will know that Capcom is known for taking their time to release a proper SF game. I mean look at SF1, which was released in 1987 and it took 4 years for them to release SF2. But obviously at that time, not everyone was interested in SF until Capcom released SF2 and then everyone was going crazy over that game.
In 1997, SF3 was released and it took 6 years for them to release a sequel lol. In between 91 and 97, Capcom were making other fighting games like Alpha, SF2 sub-series, Vs. series etc and that delayed the process of releasing SF3. When SF3 was released, it divided the fans because casual players didn't like the gameplay, characters etc and the hardcore players liked the gameplay and the feel of the game, which is different to SF2. SF3 wasn't successful but tourneys saved SF3 from being a total flop. Some would say SF3 was the reason why SF died out for so many years. Since then, Capcom didn't release a SF game.
Fans demanded Capcom to release SF4 and it was released in Arcades in 2008, 11 years after Sf3. It went back to the feel of SF2 with a mixture of new and old elements such as focus attacks, EX moves, supers, ultras etc and it became successful. Its still successful today and Capcom shouldn't release SF5 anytime soon because games like SFXT, AE.2012 and UMVC3 are coming out soon and remember, Namco is going to release TXSF next year. Capcom are too busy atm and they should take their time with SF5 imo.
@ #77
I did, and thought it wasn't worth further mention, but since you seem to care:
First of all, the background is weak to say the least: a guy who wants to be like Ryu and Ken one day meets Shin Akuma, okay
Then, this guy survives a freaking Shun Goku Satsu (which comes at him for no actual reason)? Sure, tell that to Bison, Gouken and Gill
The design is just terrible, it's a SSJ version of Akuma, god that's so original. Even his dress, good job with giving him Evil Ryu's half ripped gi
You said that unspecified moveset whouldn't be negative, because it's vast, when it's supposed to be Gouken + Adon + stuff Akuma will teach him?
In case you didn't notice btw, Evil Ryu was a wasted slot in AE, and that's not that far from this guy.People want original and interesting movesets/characters, not some more recycled stuff.
You may think that I'm being an ass, but it's actually the character that has no real worthy feature. But that's usually the rule with fanfiction, nothing really new here.
I will be too old for this lol. How about they drop it in another 3 years. Oh well at least I will watch people play it.
LMFAO @ 76 Your saying that sprites a'int happening? Ye Skull Girls ARC System games ( GG, BB) KOF, hell the majority of today's fighters are still in sprites. You are way too much of a pessimist and please don't say your a realist cause your comment isn't at all. You should learn to be more positive man. I think that SF V with HD sprites would be clearly possible and would be the best choice.
System wise since a lot of new players were introduced with SF IV, id like to see a less leniant fighter in SF V. NO shortcuts, no easy reversals, more Okizeme options. Different mechanics than the FADC. Maybe choice of mechanics. BETTER MUSIC PLEASE!!!!! And obviously good online mode with more interesting options.
everyone's asking for "all the characters ever!" and things like that, which casuals would probably like a lot, but is that really a good idea from a competitive standpoint? i'd rather they spend their resources creating a smaller (12-20 member) cast of unique and tightly balanced characters than a 70+ mess who end up mostly weak or unpopular compared to a small top tier.
Sorry to sound arrogant, but I sort of feel Seth's anguish and paranoia. I had the same feeling when Capcom started to reveal characters for UMvC3 whose movesets (specifically Hawkeye, Phoenix Wright, and Frank West) seemed to come straight from My notebook of awesome ideas for games with some slight changes. Hmm..I guess I can also say that about Achievements too back in the day..except I thought it up as for a new Sega console called 'Sega Crystal' and that each achievement, or crystal would also give you some redeemable cheat/hack code for the game after obtaining it as well as Gamerscore. ^_^"
Oh well, as long as the general idea comes through to the public I'm content, no matter who brings it forth.
I would just like answers that are true about all the fighters. Capcom needs to just make it off the 4 fighting engine minus the Damn ultras. Sf4 is fighting perfection for the beginners as well as the serious gamers. I would love to see ryu in a final form from all his travelling and training. Make him the secret boss and perhaps actually show bison in his "perfect" body. Kens son, sakura as a master maybe the twins all grown up. But seriously Capcom just keep it true to the brand name no big weird gimmicks, and give us a canonical story for once. I gotta know who the boy is from chuns story that balrog saves at the end as the final boss.
@ #84
Ah, so it is your misguided thoughts and practically misjudgment of my character as a whole that led to your initial kind words.
Tell me, has Street Fighter yet developed a Fighter who had intentions of entering the Tournaments to prove himself and be the strongest? Certainly, almost every character who isn't evil. In practice, they essentially almost bring in EVERY new Fighter with that goal in mind. It's a Fighting Tournament.
My reasoning for Minoru to have been influenced through Ryu and Ken was to give more of a feeling that normal people in the Street Fighter Universe gather to watch the Tournaments. An aspect that has YET to have any canon representation.
For the sake of Capcom EVER introducing WHATEVER character they'd like to bring into the Fray, there have been PLENTY of incredible 'what if' scenarios that we start off like, WTF? but then in our minds we accept such bizarre things because the character is actually quite cool or none the less IN the game.
When it comes to a character who BY CHANCE survived The Raging Demon, perhaps even due to a spiritual technique his former Master Tatsuya taught to him OR PERHAPS from True Gouki realizing he was attacking an innocent victim so maybe held back the final soul reaping blow, either way, it's far LESS crazy than Dictator and his SEVERAL body changes, and that's just one example.
I'm quite irritated with how blonde hair INSTANTLY points to Super Saiyan when DragonBall can HARDLY compare to the GREATNESS that IS Street Fighter. They are FIGHTERS. Their look is going to be ecstatic and out there. My reasoning for him being blonde in the first place was to give him a vibrant hair color rather the usual black or brown. I have not decided whether his hair color change yet his eye brows remaining black, which yes is a silly homage to Ken that could be redone, but canonly MAY be due to him transcending into "The Rising Demon." Please don't take that Rising Demon phrase too seriously. -_-
On a side note, was it around September 2009 that SSFIV AE was revealed or even MENTIONED? Correct me if I am wrong, but SUPER wasn't even around then. Minoru's design has undergone VARIOUS changes since I was 13 years old. The "finalized" design I have was POSTED even before my blog from September of 2009 as I made a thread on Capcom-Unity weeks before the blog. Good job.
Minoru's move set would be NOTHING like Gouken or Adon which is why I was reluctant to give those two off as examples of differences they have from Ryu or Sagat. I cannot BEGIN to explain the moves I'd want for Minrou as I wouldn't know where to start on expressing how he'd move or the poses they'd be in. I am one very weary of the recycled cast of Fighter's present in SSFIVAE and wouldn't ALLOW my character to be another.
@ 84 (Continued)
Evil Ryu IS THE MOST wasted slot in AE which is why I've attempted to push Minoru for SFV since Street Fighter IV was announced. Not in hopes to rush out the game or anything but to start building the idea for a Street Fighter game with a rather well told canon story. I don't have a lot on my side to do too much, but Seth Killian has already read up on Minoru and told me himself how he looks like a Street Fighter. I will get the message from my inbox at Capcom-Unity if you'd like me to.
You know yourself that if you weren't trying to be anal about this, Capcom COULD turn Minoru into something Special. Do not mistake any of my words as angry or hateful as I use CAPITALIZATION to emphasize points. Thank You. :-)
This just in SFV will have a new "power stone" system, stones that increase attributes!!!
YEA!
@#91 According to SFIV lore (aka rumors), that boy that Balrog/Boxer saves in the end is supposed to be Kain as in Kain & Abel from the Bible story. Even further to this theory, the story goes is that it was Kain who tried to kill Abel (out of jealousy I presume) but Abel escaped away from the labs before becoming complete, losing only his memories in the attempted murder drama.
SFIV Seth is also supposed to be based on Seth, the son of Kain and his mother, who turned out to be an ironic failure who only wanted inviduality; this however I find to be less credible as the SFIV boss character is mainly claimed to be named after Seth Killian.
This however does bring in some potential canon for the formentioned Street Fighter V, specifically Kain.
@ #97
Funny how you are giving it attention. Thank You. Aside from that, if you cannot bother yourself to read up on the manor, keep your mouth shut. I am a Fan and Minoru is who I want to see in Street Fighter V for the sake of Gouki having a well thought out story that doesn't involve "I'll Git You Roo!"
I'd like to see decent well thought out non stereotypical characters. Capcom should look to indigenous African Martial arts for inspiration or African Martial arts in diaspora. It can't be that hard can it?
That it is of course non streotypical Black characters and Africa should have at least three characters representing the continent.
No gems! If you want customization for variation, may I suggest Stats System?
Strength(Damage output)
[1|1|1|1|1|_|_|_|_|_]
Stun Output
[1|1|1|1|1|_|_|_|_|_]
Defense(More health+Higher stun)
[1|1|1|1|1|_|_|_|_|_]
Speed (Faster Dash/Walk Speed)
[1|1|1|1|1|_|_|_|_|_]
^^^ Just an example, you can have more
Each character is BALANCED at 5 attributes each..you may take one off from one and add on to the other slot. This way, you have two different Mirror matches and have variety.
This system > Gem system. This system should have been in SFxT.
@ 97 My point is even today sprites are more popular than 3D modeling. In 2019 it should be no different. Unless you my friend are waiting for Street Fighter Kinnect.
@ #92/93
Man, stop trying to defend your own character. I hope you understand there's no way in hell you'll suddenly be like "you guys are right, it's weak". You created that because you like that idea, of course you're gonna do that.
People could care less about Killian saying "he looks like a street fighter", you just ripped off the main characters, come on. Yeah, even the gi: Ryu's alt 1 has been out since japanese arcades (hint: Daigo, 2008).
Honestly, yours is just fanwanking ("true" stuff, rising crap and whatever). But again: that's what (hardcore) fanfiction is about, nothing's wrong with that. The thing is, they don't push for their stuff to be in the game.
If you really want something Capcom to resemble your Gouki/Ryu/whatever blend, just buy an action figure of Akuma and paint it with Goku's blonde hair, that's probably the closest it will get.
Evil Ryu is a waste of a slot only because of the way they made him, by the way. You don't create anything interesting just by putting together two characters (in a way it resembles other fighters) and adding some red flames.
(oh yeah i forgot no parries, remember capcom that game was the worst SF :)
So don't do it :)
)
When is Street Figther 6 going to come out? Just kidding but by 2019 they would have been catering to casuals and "closing the gap" so much that it will be like Super Smash Street Figthers but instead of items they will have gems that fall out the sky. Only 2 buttons to attack, Press A + direction for moves, Press A multiple times for combo. Press B + Direction for special moves. And a button to block so you don't need auto block gem and don't have to worry about cross ups.
Up and B for shoryuken, B for haduken, Over and B for tatsu, Down and B donkey kick.
@ #110
Stop trying to defend my own character? So WHAT exactly did I say that was irrelevant? How VASTLY different are new SERIOUS Fighters who actually mean something in Street Fighter?
I've been a Gouki Purist ever since he whipped my ass in Super Turbo II. Street Fighter II was my FIRST ever video game which I had an enormous amount of respect for. As I grew up, I also grew tired of the goodie two shoes aspect of Ryu's want to just be the best and be humble in a FIGHTING game, and it was around that time Gouki was discovered.
I am EXTREMELY Happy Gouki was introduced when clones were still acceptable. Gouki had everything I Loved about Ryu, plus more and was Absolutely BAD ASS. The more they refined him through later titles, the more I fell in Love. The only other thing I can say I love more materialistically is GoRiLLaZ and I have followed them since I was 10.
Point being of all this, I observe and KNOW what I am into and am not just another fan boi spewing off nonsense. IF ANYTHING is a clone of My Creation it's the fact he is a FIGHTER in a rather bland Fighting Game when it comes to story and initiation for anything new and memorable.
You keep bashing Minoru for being some sort of clone when you are covering your eyes and Selectively Reading past all of my information that assure you HE IS NOT. You are so furious with me for coming in here and expressing what I'd like to see in Street Fighter V that YOU'D NEVER allow yourself the belief my character could work when Capcom has proven they could make Joke Fighters Respected.
You want so badly to look at my fighter as some clone with his gi that you are making yourself believe I copied Ryu's second alternate when the ONLY thing my fighter ripped off was his sleeve. Wonder who else in this Fighting game doesn't like hiding their arms. If questions are needed, simply ASK. I've combined no one and KNOW EVERY intention behind my character front and back.
If you do not care for him, that is cool. Don't disgrace yourself any further for trying to make false points about my character who you BEGAN bashing the moment I came and gave my opinion.
1 Story
- I wana see what happens with everyone, all the fighters, npcs, whatever. That way if i suck at the new sf5 at least i can enjoy the story.
- I wana see new apprentices and new blood,Prime example is Sean and Mel taking up the ken mantle, maybe an older sakura taking up ryus mantle. most characters should leave a trace of the originals. Or you can get creative and mix characters, or have some hybrid of some characters like 3rd strike since this game should go off of 3rd strikes timeline. Then again it would be the same old sf4 if you didn't create new chars.
2 Customization,
-maybe not quite as much as tekken, but getting a little creative with alts or when you use a move maybe give it a unique user created perk, color or effect.
- Maybe even a character creator:
Use a existing character for template but you can change voice, model type, and whatever else but not touch the moves to keep it a stable game with few glitches and abuses. That would be fun to mess with.
3 Mechanics,
- I dont know about you guys but i really miss character intros like in CvS2, would be cool if they brought them back.
- a new system like focus attack or parry, but something "different".
- revenge gauge was an awesome idea. maybe make something else to replace it with another "comeback" mechanic.
- add and rpg element...hell no i was totally joking.
Idk i just put out what i thought might be cool.
@ #113
Err, what exactly is a character "purist"? Some sort of ultimate fanboy? Seems like you'd jerk to Akuma to the point of wanting a child with him or something (guess that explain your character).
As far as Gouki goes, you ain't worth a penny unless you're a very good player. Hell, you even failed as a fan, with the whole "he survived the Shun Goku Satsu" thing if you ask me.
I actually lol'd at my "false points". Everything I've stated (unoriginal look, terribly weak background, uncharacteristic/unspecified moveset with references to previous characters, for an overall flawed design) still stands, whether you like it or not.
Enough of this though, you can keep advertising that crap all you want, it's pretty clear that could never make the cut, especially with the "love" shoto clones are getting these days.
I just want sf5 to continue into the future past 3s and continue the story.with a new engine and new mechanics (like all new sf's have traditionally been). No recycling of mechanics like alpha counter, custom combo/vism,parries just flat out new and innovative stuff. If the games have to stay in 2.5D it def needs to be made faster.
Sf4 brought fgs back from the brink of death, now I want sf5 to continue to breathe new life into the genre.BUT not by adding more comeback mechanics, shortcuts and autoblocking/proximity blocking(a lil input leniency can stay). All these things are just condesending and are added based on the assumption that all new players are lazy retards that just wanna jump in,push buttons don't want to learn.
trial mode is a good start but is NOT THE PROPER WAY TO TEACH NEW PLAYERS TO PLAY!!! Putting ridiculous combos which 80% of aren't used in either competitive nor casual play and aren't even explained in terms of seeing the combo demoed 1st or a breakdown of the timing of each button press(tekken does both). If u wanna teach new players, implement tutorials that teach them zoning, spacing, footsies, how to punish properly...basically HOW TO PLAY THE GAME!!!
this is the only genre that is miles behind in terms of having proper learning mechanisms which arm players with what they'll need to be good enough to play and LEARN!new players lack of patience is a big problem with y fighters are where they are now compared to where they used to be popularity wise.back in the day Sf:ww was simple enough to just pick up and play and be able to learn. now these games have become more complex and because of arcades jump in and play nature, players were left to go thru a gruesome process of trial and error.not all ppl have the patience for such a repetitive process.now were in the console era and the technology has evolved and players are still left to fend for themselves w/o being properly educated on the new complexities associated with todays fighters. This needs to change for fighters to regain their former glory.
I just want SF5 to take place post SF3
bring back some of the SF3 characters, maybe bring back Rufus and Viper detailing what they did during the events of SF3 and their new stories same applies to the other SFIV exclusive characters they decide to bring back. And maybe throw in a few new characters.
Gameplay wise I wouldn't mind how SF3 or 4 played, 2D sprites or 3D models I'm not picky on which.
But the concept sounds good.
@ #116
Forgive me. Was out to lunch. Seriously though, Get The F*ck Out, Panda.
In my eyes, a "Character Purist" as I personally refer some including myself as, is a person who has stood by a character ritually as That's how much they've enjoyed their qualities in each video game or other entertainment they were involved in. A trait found in a lot of Fans.
Before undermining my posts with assumptions that make you seem like a bratty tween, I URGE you to understand where I come from before foolishly blurting nonsense to back YOUR terribly weak argument.
The_True_Gouki as my username, is just that. A username. One I feel I very much deserve as I am MUCH aware of the might behind The Master Of The Fist as well as complete back story as THERE ISN'T MUCH. STILL I STRONGLY believe given the reasons I dealt, Minoru could just BARELY survive. It also serves as a backing as to why Gouki would take Minoru in the first place.
That's another thing though, I've been so generous as to reply and give rational explanation as to why your points are quite false, however you've done so once for me which my reply was a return of the favor.
You continuously claim your ill words without giving any other reason aside from the fact that you WISH to be against me. Prepare for a long day if you feel I am one who types his opinion often without caring to back it up. The reason I am very FOR sharing my idea is because when you look at the Fighter's we've been given already, Minoru is a breath of fresh air. IF I EVER am given the chance to push him any further, I'd show you through Finished Product just what I mean. You'd probably be too busy covering your eyes again.
If you COULD just answer ONE THING for me though as the more I talk of your behavior, the less I care for your biased opinion, but DO ANSWER me this. With Catalyst asking "What would you like to see in Capcom's Street Fighter 5? Leave a comment below with your thoughts." What did I do that made you so upset?
Before you try to say gain acceptance from people on the internet who couldn't GIVE A SH*T for who I am, repeat that to yourself. I MERELY stated what I would like to see in Capcom's Street Fighter V. Thank You. :-)
Also, unique Stages for each character with their own character theme playing in the background would be nice. Stages in SF4 were way too generic.
Ideas for stages:
Ryu - Grassy plains at night with a full moon in the sky.
Ken - Cruise Ship with a swimming pool and girls in bikinis.
Akuma - Grassy plains with thunder.
Gouken - Shattered dojo and where Gouken and Akuma originally trained. In the back is an old black and white photograph hanging from the wall of Goutetsu, Gouken, and Akuma with Akuma's face burned away along with that half of the dojo.
Cammy - Delta Red Nerve Center with Delta Red employees working tirelessly on computers and all wearing Red Berets, with a giant map of the world on a large monitor in the back highlighting hot spots of activity and pulling up images of missing fighters.
Guile - Aircraft Carrier with a bunch of drunken Airforce pilots.
Sakura - Japanese schoolyard at an all female Japanese school during gym class. School girls cheering and swinging their fists in excitement.
Chun-Li - Crowded streets in Beijing with bicyclists weaving in and out.
Blanka - Jungle with a bunch of monkeys watching from the trees.
E. Honda - Bathhouse with Sumo wrestlers in towels cheering on the fight.
Dhalsim - In a Hindu temple with a giant statue of Ganesha in the back and elephants all around.
Zangief - Forests of Siberia with a family of bears and campers around a fire watching, transfixed.
Fei Long - Movie set in Hong-Kong featuring costumes and movie poster parodies from Bruce Lee's films.
Deejay - At a break-dance competition in a Kingston night club.
T. Hawk - High in the snow-capped Sierra Mountains with a bald eagle perched on a branch.
Yin-Yang - Dojo that's been converted into a skate park.
Makoto - Broken down, dusty dojo with a pile of shattered punching bags piled on one side (clearly from having been punched off their hinges by Makoto during her training sessions).
Dudley - Mansion drive-way with his car, water fountain, and butler in the back.
Ibuki - Ancient Japanese forest with ninjas leaping from tree to tree and Shinto shrines scattered about.
Cody - Crowded prison yard with convicts rioting and guards fighting to keep them in order.
Guy - Metro City streets at night with Mad Gear gang in the background.
Rose - Venice, Italy at night with ghostly figures paddling along in gondolas.
Dan - On-set while filming an infomercial for his new Dojo. (He wanted to invite a seasoned fighter on for a demonstration of the power of Saikyo-ryu.)
C. Viper - Inside a nightclub in Dubai with strobe lights and crowds of people dancing in the back and frightened patrons making room for the fight.
Rufus - Truck-stop in the middle of the desert with a biker gang revving up their engines in the back.
El Fuerte - Day of the Dead festival in the background with (maybe) an appearance by Skullomania.
Also:
Sagat - Outside of a Theravada Buddhist shrine containing thousands of golden Buddha statues.
Balrog - Out-door boxing ring in Las Vegas with lots of bling, hookers, and crowds cheering.
Vega - Cage-match within a castle with lots of candelabra and affluent, masked patrons watching the match in an overly polite and reserved fashion. At the end of the fight, they throw roses.
M. Bison - Shadaloo HQ with top secret fighter jets in the back and thousands of armed guards in Shadaloo uniforms arranged in battalions and awaiting deployment. Bison's Dolls can also be seen marching across the background.
Juri - S. I. N. nerve center with a giant, purple eye broad-casted on each of the dozen monitors hanging from the ceiling, each watching the fighters as they move around.
Seth - Deep inside of S. I. N. where hundreds of Seth clones are stored inside specialized cloning vessels and arranged in rows along the walls.
And I apologize for the wall of text. I had no idea I had written so much.
If Capcom vs SNK 3 doesnt come out before SFV i will have lost all hope
@SAMURAI
Thanks! I really love the giant statue, too, from SF2. I just thought I'd try to come up with something different.
"Deejay - At a break-dance competition in a Kingston night club".
"Balrog - Out-door boxing ring in Las Vegas with lots of bling, hookers, and crowds cheering".
With all due respect to Deltawhite, stereotypical ideas are the kind of thing I hope I never see in Street Fighter again. Break dancing/ B boying is virtually non existent in Jamaica and probably most; if not all of the Caribbean. So culturally that's completely inaccurate and not at all relevant.
As for Balrogs bling and hookers idea that's the most terrible, rap bull s*** stereo type you can pull out.
@old_school_rival
I didn't know that break-dancing was non-existant in Jamaica or the Caribbean. I figured it was pretty universal and surely Jamaicans must be just as interested in it as any other country. It really wasn't intended to be stereotypical, it was just a place I thought Dee Jay would like to hang out.
And the "bling" and hookers for Balrog is more a statement on Las Vegas and Balrog's generally greedy and chauvinistic nature. It suits his character (or lack there of). I really didn't mean it to have anything to do with rap (besides the word "bling").
@gtfopanda
Yeah, it was. How funny. And I've never played 3rd Strike.
@old_school_rival
What kind of stages would you prefer for DeeJay and Balrog?
@ deltawhite
love those ideas bro, just love them. you got a creative mind. if i ever get into the gaming business im giving you a call.
was hoping someone can help me... im new to mvc3 and wanted to know if you could turn off the timer in offline versus matches someone please let me know if this is possible
i know you cant do it for online matches and i know you can do for arcade but what about versus.... ??????? lol
thanks
It's cool Delta White my comments really weren't supposed to be a personal attack. Ironically these are the kind ideas Capcom would probably adopt. As far as Black Characters go Capcom typically partakes in the minimal amount of cultural research.
Street Fighter is in a unique position in gaming because within the context of the game they embody; or potentially expose a worldwide audience to new cultures. Hakan in my opinion is a great example of this, how many of us had heard of the traditional sport Turkish oil wrestling. Like I said in my earlier post Capcom should look to African and Caribbean martial arts for Black/African character inspiration.
In terms of stages something I've never given much consideration too. Off the top of my head I'd say, Deejay could fight in front of a waterfall, representing the Jamaican landmark Dunns River fall. Some Rastafarian drummers in the back might top that off nicely. A better idea might be a Jamaican town centre with people in the back playing Steel Pans(Jamaican Instrument). Deejays theme/stage tune could also be played on this instrument.
Balrog's stage could be a grimy boxing gym with up and coming boxers training and jeering in the back. Perhaps because he's so rich he could fight it out in a luxurious gym. With middle aged woman carrying small poodles watching.
someone anyone... ???
was hoping someone can help me... im new to mvc3 and wanted to know if you could turn off the timer in offline versus matches someone please let me know if this is possible
i know you cant do it for online matches and i know you can do for arcade but what about versus.... ??????? lol
thanks
First of all: @DeltaWhite.
I like them all.
Moving on, What I would like that would seems to be a bit reasonable:
Deltawhites idea, though, I doubt they would take everyone from the AE cast. Everything else. On the topic of characters, another 6 new characters, and ending with a total about 10 new character by the Super/ultimate/turbo/EX/Y'know.
Another new system. I would love to keep the ultra that IV brought, and Even though I do like the Focus idea, but they should switch it up every game. I would like a good time skip. Something reasonable too. About 15 years after 3rd strike, so Ryu is now older, Ken or even his son can start in, sagat is a bit aged but more knowledgeable, possibly picked up a new disciple to be playable. Sakura is older and a bit more of her own style, instead of like Ryu. Chun started teaching a class, is a bit slower but is more of a heavy hitter. Guile is older, Honda is basically the same, 'Sim is the same, y'know, all the conon characters should be just aged and maybe picked up someone to pass on the line. Also a good mix of some 3rd strike characters. I would love to see some real differences between the generations of fighters. Ryu becoming Gouken-like, Ken becoming more fatherly, Sagat loosening up, Chun becoming a little more motherly, you know, the characters becoming more mature. I have to say, I really like what people have been putting up on this thread.
What would I like to see?
EVERYTHING ON DISC! DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!
NO SUPERS or EXPANSIONS! No Patching=Everything Balanced
Show the haters you are capable of releasing a quality game on the 1st try like Valve/Rockstar/Nintendo does!
They need to have a Canadian hockey goon, a New Zealand Maori warrior and an Australian fighter. It's supposed to be the world warriors. There are too many characters from certain countries.
Capcom isn't going to make their primary seller without a comeback system for lesser players. Way too much money. =P
1) I'd like All SF2/SF3/Alpha characters.
2) 2 or 3 super arts per character (doesn't have to be the same).
3) Character specific stages.
4) Rockin' theme music.
5) Better online mode, but in the US, I'm not sure how much it will help. Online is fine for Japan because they have great net, ours sucks. The division of internet quality in the states can cause problems in any game really.
I'd love to see Balrog vs. Q one day!
if it's all about plinking and frame links again you can count me out
and this auto 1hit parry can go to hell
frankly, i thought daigo was right, in retrospect, before the game was release his impression was sf4 wasn't very innovative and the devs held back from taking risks w/ designing the game
YES!
CAN'T WAIT UNTIL 2019!
