If you haven't been keeping up with fighting games outside of Capcom's titles, you may not know much of the backstory to the Tekken characters. With the upcoming release of Street Fighter X Tekken, Virtua Kazama here on the EventHubs forums has started compiling biographies for the Namco characters that are confirmed for the game. Not only does he break down the individual fighters, he also has a story arc up for the Tekken series.King's Bio: King is a famous wrestler from Mexico. King used to be a ruthless street brawler with no care in the world except fighting. In one of King's fights, King was grievously wounded and collapsed in front of a monastery. The Marquez priests saved him from death. After recovering, King realized how wrong he was, and he wanted to start a new life. It was then that he became a Catholic priest and renounced his old fighting ways. He then became a man with a mission: to build an orphanage so that street children will have a home to go to and not end up like what he used to be. Needing finances for the building of the orphanage, King discovers The King of Iron Fist Tournament. Against the monastery's order not to join, King enters the tournament. He did receive the money, but with a heavy price: he was excommunicated from his order.
Thanks to Zombiebrian for pointing this out.
Oh, I thought it was something official. Oh well, that's cool, I guess. I already know the character histories, good job to [Virtua Kazama].
I'll go back to lurking now.
Congrats! Virtua Kazama, keep up the good work. This is coming from a Tekken fan (also a street fighter fan) and i hope alot of people look at the stuff, Virtua Kazama has put up and learn things from the Tekken roaster side, to understand a little about them and what to expect from them.. when this game come out. everything he put up, is dead on and i hope this game bring both sides together, as a big community and not some big fan war... again, congrats! Virtua Kazama and Catalyst, for letting Tekken players feel welcome here.
Cool, but maybe you could elaborate on why King wears his ridiculous mask too, as its one of his trademarks.
I really need to just bite the bullet and start back playing Tekken 6 until Tag 2 releases. As much as I love SF, I really miss Tekken...
@Quezacoatl - it's been a while since I read up on Tekken's storyline, but I believe it's passed down from one King to the next.
To this day I still don't understand why King only talks/yells in Tiger grunts and growls, though. Although it was hilarious during Tekken 5's story mode, lol.
Didn't know King was a mexican wrestler. King vs Fuerte sounds really cool now.
is there a reason why there's a picture of Kazuya instead of King?
@11 thats all im hopin to see here one day urghh till then mehhh
How wrong he is. That info up there about King is wrong. It's about King I not King II, who's in SFXT. King I was killed by Ogre after Tekken 2 and King II became the new Kingand has been in every Tekken game since Tekken 3. Soooo, he need to rewrite it or add that there's to Kings. They don't even have the same outfits either and the outfit in King has in SFXT is the one of King II.
(Masks aren't customary to MEXICAN wrestlers, folks, they're customary to LUCHADORS.)
@20 Luchadors ARE Mexican wrestlers...Lucha Libre is also more prominent in Mexico.
(One is not a requirement of the other. Not all Mexicans are luchadors and not all luchadors are Mexican. But hey, don't let me stop that thought process.)
(Oh btw I like the writeup, keep going. nice to know King is an OG!)
I'm glad everyone is enjoying that thread. I thought it would be a good idea to do that so that you guys can get to know the Tekken character's background.
King vs sagat...i love thos matchup
