A translation of Arcadia Magazine's interview with various top players in Japan was translated by one of Canada's finest, Air.
1. The character you are using?
2. The reason why you chose this character?
3. In a 3on3 tournament, what characters do you want to form your team with?
4. Reasons?
Player: RF
Titles:
SBO10 (GGXXAC) Champion
SBO10 (SF4) Champion
Q1. Sagat
Q2. I tried Fei long and Yun in the beginning, but they don’t fit my style, therefore in the end I switched back to Sagat.
Q3. Yun/Makoto
Q4. First, I need the best character “Yun” in my team. I can beat other Yuns with my Sagat. And then I need a character that can burst power, Makoto.
Tip from TigerBoom.
my take on this:
1. Gen
2. Master of Yun and Yang and Chun Li also his buffs seem like improvements anyone could say is a game changer
3. Gen, Cody, Adon
4. my favorite characters that I stuck to since the announcement of the later 2 in SSF4(and you can quote me on that) and luckily for me people don't know their match ups that well with Gen and Cody
@#3
As strong as he is, he already has bad match-ups.
If we pick apart this interview, we notice:
1)Yang, Fei Long and Zangief are as popular for team building, Makoto being close. So other characters are strong as well.
2) Fei Long is the character with the least bad match-ups in Top Tiers
Considering how many times Fei has been mentioned to be just as good, if not better than Yun, and him having less bad match-ups than him, I have no idea why people whine about one and not the other.
For mid-level play, it will make a lick of difference as well.
Oh well.
J wong got blown up by DSP

Wong didn't even touch him!
To put a twist on the third question, what three characters would make the best "Anti-Yun" team? Based on what some of the pros have been saying, I'm thinking Zangief, Fei Long, and Sagat.
Does anyone know of any other characters that actually fare well in the dreaded Yun match up?

Seems like the players have gone at it alot more since Tougeki is getting closer and Tougeki qualifiers are being played.
Great the Gief bandwagon is going to come back after the load got lighter in super. Shame and I was enjoying the leg room.
@#11
if the gief bandwagon comes back it is all welcomed, just sad that hes only really there and considered good cause he has to handle the twins.
@#12
Sadly enough seems like alot of people are gonna have a pocket sagat, So gief placing high in the long run doesnt seem likely :( And the japanese never really dropped using sagat like we have during ssf4 so chances are alot of em are gonna pull the sagat card when gief appears.
Just give me Mr Umehara on my team and we're good to go...
Team battles in SSF4 are quite pointless imo. One good player can often beat the whole opposite team, which should be VERY UNLIKELY in well designed team battles.
Do you remember Team Battle system in Alpha 3 (where the winner doesn't get his HP back)? That's a TEAM Battle...
Meh just to much Q_Q....
Find ways to beat them...Or JOIN THEM!!!
Lol, I find it hard to believe the twins are not OP when they say stuff like this:
"Q4.)First, I need the best character “Yun” in my team. I can beat other Yuns with my Sagat. And then I need a character that can burst power, Makoto."
Either the players are worried about counter-picking the twins or they want to use them, so they don't have to struggle. I see why Ryan was a disappointed by that.
Seems like Yun/Yang/Fei Long/Sagat/Zangief/Makoto/Viper are top now. Still, Zangief isn't winning anything. He got that stupid nerf that took away his KD on Greenhand and I've seen him die a number of times because of it. Also, Sagat beats him so bad it's not funny. Once people get into AE, Gief is going to get creamed by zoners without the cornerstone of his offense. Losing that KD also means a harder time against rush down characters.
I feel his only saving grace is headbutt because the twins set themselves up for it by divekicking so much.
It seems that everyone who played the game and Ono himself have all said that Yun is obviously the best character in AE. This game looks like it will be all about Yun and ways to beat Yun. I wonder if they ruined this game on purpose in order to get people to move on to newer capcom fighters.
It will actually work out well. Most of the people still playing SF4 will buy AE regardless. Then they will become bored with it more quickly because the game is dominated by one character so they will move on and buy another game, maybe SFXT or MVC3. That's my conspiracy theory anyway.
Obvious best character >>>>>>>>>>> everyone else = broken. MK9 tournaments are mostly Kung Lao tournaments which is just not very interesting in my opinion. Kung Lao is going to be fixed in MK9. Yun's dominance is being celebrated by some of capcom's own staff members.
Yun loses to viper, gief, ken, sagat, fei, and maybe dictator...he is equal with makoto, yang, and akuma
I really really don't think that Yun is SOOOOO much better than the rest of the cast. He's the best character in the game, no doubt, but he isn't broken.
Also, I think people fail to forget that Japanese players are much more concerned with tiers than American players are. American tournaments will not be as Yun dominated. I'm sure of it.
@25: My theory involves 3S:OE, and is eerily similar to yours.
#29- Japanese players more concerned with tiers than US? Where did you pull that nonsense from?
All top players are concerned with tiers. You have to be. That doesn't mean you base characters selection on it, entirely, but it's to be considered.
And you're crazy if you don't think American tournaments are gonna be Yun-a-thons. There are gonna be so many crappy Yun players at every tournament. I wouldn't count on the US producing too many actually GOOD Yun players... Yun doesn't seem like the kind of character America knows how to get right (like 3S Yun... SF4 Akuma... etc..). Technically dominant characters aren't America's strong point, especially since most of the technical players in the US don't seem to play SF4 too hard.
We'll see though.
@28, yun loses to fei? mago recently stated yun is one of his bad match-ups.
@35 fine its 5-5 but who beat daigo 2 out of 3 times....mago2dgod
@34
I never said that American players are not concerned with tiers. I said Japanese players are more concerned. One guy in the interview said "all I care about are character tiers." I've never heard such an extreme sentiment from an American player. Just saying.
Also, what I meant by Yun dominated, is Yun comprising to majority of the top spots. Of course, there will be a lot of people playing him, mostly bad. But you can say the same about Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Guile or any other popular character. So is it really worth getting up in arms about a bunch of scrubby Yuns running around? I don't think so. What matters, from a balance standpoint IMO, is what happens at top level play. That's said, I think there will be less Yuns than people think at the top.
It's funny, I sent this in and must have used my old email LOL oh well, hope yall enjoy, thanks for uploading!
