The guide to playing E.Honda in SSF4 has been updated here on EventHubs. In it I go over Honda's special moves, command normals and Ultras, especially on how they apply offensively and defensively.E.Honda is a deadly powerhouse character with a great defensive and offensive game. His Super is incredibly damaging and his Hundred-Hand Slap is extremely difficult to counter. He also has a great damaging anti-air game, an above-average reversal game with autocorrecting Headbutts and a really powerful command grab to open up the opponent’s defense with.
Projectile characters give Honda tons of trouble though, especially when used by players who have mastered fireball zoning. They force Honda to abandon the charge for his powerful Headbutts and stop the advancing charge of the Hundred Hand Slap. Characters with great special moves and Ultras that can punish Honda’s Headbutt can give Honda a huge amount of trouble as his offense becomes incredibly limited.
The guide was written with a lot of help from match videos. If you have any suggestions or notice any typos, please post them in the comments of this news post or the comments in the character section.
Why update the SSF4 guide when it's going to be obsolete (along with Honda) in just a few weeks?
Honda doesn't have a 'great damaging anti-air game'. His only safe anti-air options require EX meter (EX headbutt/sumo slam) and he doesn't have a dedicated anti-air normal. In other words, when he doesn't have meter or he loses charge, he's jump-in bait. It will be even worse in AE when jab headbutt, which is already unsafe anti-air with no invulnerability frames, gets nerfed even further.
If it was like that, Hondas would lose all the time. The key is spacing your jump or movement so that you can neutral jump and counter with a Hard Punch when the opponent gets close. This same trick works for Chun-Li (Neutral Jump Hard Kick).
That's one of Mike Ross's tricks. Also Light Headbutt is a very damaging and reliable anti-air currently, though it won't be as useful in AE.
