Sony Online Entertainment brought its PlayStation Network back online in parts of Europe and the U.S. Saturday following a three-week outage resulting from the hacking of the network by unknown individuals, the company said on the PlayStation blog.
The restoration of PSN service requires a firmware update on PS3 consoles and requires users to change their passwords. Sony is also offering customers free enrollment in identity theft protection programs in countries where they are available, the company said.
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kazuo Hirai offered a video statement announcing the restoration of PSN services that began with an apology to users for the outage.

Oh yeah. I have an Xbox. And better service.

For those of you that can't get on yet, refer to this:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/0...
For those of you wondering, if you have a new PS3 (meaning you had one before) you can change your password through the email at PlayStation's website. On the side note, when is CANADA coming back online -_-
This is a good reason why developers should have a ton of content for single player instead of just for multiplayer. Paying $60 just for multiplayer is ridiculous.
I am debating on whether I should give up on PS3 all together. I had recently repaired my PS3 after it died on me. After paying the fee to get it repaired, only three or so months later, it breaks down again... I refuse to pay another fee for something that will just break down again in a few months. What is worse it that they believe a thirty day warranty will be enough. I may just give up on the console and just stick with 360. Maybe I will change my mind later but at this very moment... It does not seem likely.
#22 There is no such things as a perfect infastructure, many hackers can crack into Government databases so you can bet small buisnesses are just as in much risk as any other company. Also the fact they are small buisnesses means that if they are eventually attacked and compromised, they will lack teh resource Sony has to come up with a solution in such record time.
When i say record time I mean that you upgrade a brand new security infastructure and test it out fast enough so that you can be certain further attacks will be difficult for hackers to break through. It may have not been fast enough for you but it was fast...enough.
No body is perfect and everyone should get off of Sony's back. As for those who have Xbox Live, paying for servies does'nt make you any more protected than Sony so you can stop riding the fanwagon now.
This looks like something out of Robocop or Terminator. I wonder is that guy has an ED 209?
Meh after 2 weeks I gave up and traded in for a XBOX 360. I only play SSF4 online and it's pretty much the only game I really play alot.
The changes have been interesting. I am noting the avg PP player skill vs actual PP someone has is lower in Xbox than is in PSN. Meaning(not to offend anyone) it feels like a 5000pp PSN player is like a 4200PP Xbox player. I am assuming that is due to more active players in ranked matches on Xbox.
Game also loads faster, hooray!
#25 Finally someone with common sense.

I agree with you 100%.
@27
Yeah your right it could happen to Xbox players. But for right now we've been hacked it's for stupid stuff like Microsoft points stolen and or points purchased through a stolen gamer tag
Something helpful for Xbox users & I guess PS3 users could see if it would work for them, A little something on yahoo to help protect yourself & your information.
dam psn not back up yet in ny gotta wait sigh go to the psblog it has a map and the state that is highlighted in blue are back online the green area are not whoever has a p3

Just so you know, Xbox 360s break much *more* often. So the stats say. I know people who are on their fifth one. :\
Namco making a fail job on reviving Ridge Racer by westernizing. The new unbound is going to be fail. I miss RR4. And WTF is with Reiko Nagase in the Trailer. To many NFS clone. Keep it old school NAMCO. Very sad is! T_T Oh and congrats to everyone that can play online again.
im back online, but i cant get into my other accounts?? it keeps saying check my email, doesn't say much, then says server error??????? wanna get into my other account!
lol, i guess all these xbox kids forgot that their system randomly gets red rings and breaks.
wth? are we arguing about xbox and ps3 again?
BOTH systems get system failure... RROD an YLOD both exist.
and who cares if sony's online stuff went down for a while? so long as it's back, or soon will be, and you didn't hjave your info stolen, will you care or anyone else care? no.
and if people don't think xbox can be hacked then they're very naive.
anyway back to the topic (the video)... what are curiosity services?
BWAA HAA HAA HAAAAA
Ya'll still hurting for PSN to get their act together just so you can play for free?!? Common dudes, unless you guys are just that hung out for cash or just that hardheaded about leaving your precious PS controlers for our crappy XBOX ones... (yeah I admit they suck, but I use stick for fighting and the new controlers they came out with are ok)
Just keep your precious PS for the exclusive titles and get the BOX for the online content. Trust me, the competition is way more consistent and all the high level players know better. Most of my friends have both, and they do the same. Honestly they just use the PS for a blueray player now and play games on the BOX.
I know Bill Gates MUST be getting a chuckle from this one..
I'll quote El Furte for what he must be thinking:
"And in the end......I won! Im rich..BII@TCH!!!
Wow.
