A quick question and answer session was posted on the official Japanese Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition website, and was translated by AndriaSang. Most of this stuff is known from previous announcements, but if you haven't been keeping up, it serves as a recap of notable details.
• There are no balance adjustments over the arcade version — it's just a port of that version.
• Arrange costumes are not included with the game. This is true of both the download and disc versions.
• The costumes that you purchased for the original version of Super Street Fighter IV can be used in Arcade Edition.
• SSF4 and SSF4 Arcade Edition players can play against one-another. However, the gameplay falls back to Super spec in terms of characters, rules and balance.
• For matching, both PS3 and Xbox 360 players will need to download a free Super SFIV Update Kit, which is due for June 7, 2011.
• Rankings will be split into Original and Arcade Edition. Your BP and PP will start off at zero in Arcade Edition.
• Trophies/achievements will carry over from SSF4 into Arcade Edition.
@SnakeX
When you boot up the game, you'll be given a choice to select SSF4 or AE. I don't think if you're in AE mode you'll be seeing people creating rooms for SSF4 or vice versa. Could be wrong, but this is my understanding of how it works at the moment.
"Super SFIV and Super SFIV Arcade Edition players can play against one-another. However, the gameplay falls back to Super spec in terms of characters, rules and balance."
So, it means AE players won't be able to pick up the new characters when fighting against a SSF4 player. I think it is fair since they are designed to be played among the new balanced roster.
However, I hope you won't be able to get some of the new AE Player Points and Battle Points while fighting with the SSF4 rules.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. if i'm playing AE i want to fight only AE players
I just got my Sakura to B+! Oh no!
Oh well, a fresh start would be nice. :)
"Trophies/achievements will carry over from SSF4 into Arcade Edition."
Finally. I've been waiting for info on this. This is nice. SSF4 veterans will get a free boost to their trophy collection/gamerscore upon purchasing AE.
@10:
No, you won't get the same achievements again. Have you downloaded Resident Evil 5 Lost in Nightmares? It's just an expansion. AE IS SSF4, but with the 8 new achievements. So if you download the AE DLC or buy the AE disc, your achievements will stay the same but you'll have access to 8 new achievements.
@17 I think so too, but that's why I think SSF4 players will dee a definitive drop in online opponents,as most people will be trying to gain more AE points. I'm pretty sure your opponents are not randomly chosen from SSF4 or AE. I appreciate that we keep the option to play the chocolate version, I just don't think that many people will switch back and forth. Also considering most tournaments will switch to AE. I could be wrong, though.
@17 @18 Agree. Hope they will confirm you can't get AE points while in a "backward compatibility" match.
I'm alittle disappointed the disc version of the game won't have at least some of the costumes. SSF4 disc came with 10 new characters, New Ultras, Stages, Tweaks. AE is gonna come with 4 new characters and tweaks, this doesn't feel like an honest 40 dollar value, and would have personally liked to see a new costumes in there to sweeten pot. Guess i'll just be getting the dlc directly.
Huh, so no new achievements? I wonder if there will be no new trials for Yun/Yang/Evil Ryu/Oni, then...
@BaroqueObama
Nah they just said achievements carry over, AE adds achievements but it's not an entirely new set, so you won't have to get Trial Athlete all over again. I don't know how they're going to factor the new characters into it though. Can they place new restrictions on achievements already earned, or do Microsoft/Sony not let them do that?
Yay, no balance updates! Some of the best players in the world agreed that Yun is way, way, way, way too good, but what do they know?!
If you don't already own ssf4 than it totally a $40.00 value. Hell, its totally a $60.00 value for ppl who are buying for the first time!
You get AE with 39 characters for $40.00!
I have it already. I'll be buying both dlc and retail.
1) Pre order bonus
2) Collector value
3) Hard copy
4) Take it on the road
5) Tournament play
Win, Win, Win, Win, Win, Win!
Capcom has done an excellent job. Now... Just reveal that there are two more characters hidden in the Arcade cab and we'll be getting them also lol!
Alex reveal ftw!
What about the C to shining C ache? I won't have it before AE is out. Does that mean that I'll have to start all over on it, and include the new characters? Will I have to keep playing SSF4 to get it?? Hmmm....
adding two more characters would make this hype! yunyangonievil lame!
To SuperGerard:
It seems they made the "SSF4 rules applies before AE" only for the BP and PP matter. It means a AE player who fights a SSF4 will play with the ranking points of his SSF4 account.
If it's not for this reason, this rule just makes no sense. It would mean we purchased AE for no reason when fighting against SSF4 players. We could not pick the 4 new characters but we could still troll the PSN of the XBlive with overpowered guile and win AE ranking points.
In the end I would guess it works that way: you play under SSF4 rules = SSF4 ranking points system
AE rules = AE ranking point system.
Regardless of the game (AE or SSF4) you're actually playing
I always like restarts to rankings. Makes it feel fresh when I play. For the last month of Super I'm just going to be playing Rank matches with Dan and see how high I can get him in the ranks.
I really hope they won't allow reg SSF4 players join my AE lobby which then prevents me from choosing the new characters when I play go against them. If they have a filter to prevent this, sure I don't mind. That way, I can set my filter to where only AE players can join my lobby and I can choose the new characters and the use the new balance updates in every match. However if any version can join, I'm not going to like it b/c it's going to limit me from using the new updates.
People are still spouting off about hopes of new characters?...does anyone realize how long it takes to make just ONE character? Making the model, deciding on a moveset (even if there is a pre-existing one), figuring out how to make them fit in with 39 other characters, play-test after play-test after play-test tweaking frame data thousands of times.
The guys at Capcom aren't magicians! Take these four characters and all the other updates as an amazing thing to even offer and stop being so inconsiderate for what it takes to make these things. Lest we forget that they have limited human resources to devote to the many projects they already have to work on. Everyone would be displeased if they seemed to not have given things enough attention on their other projects because they focused on adding characters to an already content-packed game.
I'm buying the DLC and the Disc Format...and I'm not rich by any means (poor college student actually), I just like to support good work.
when this game comes out old ssf4 will never be touched again in my house lol
im glad the ranking system will be the same as AE arcades. i would like it to be a fair ranking system and not some stupid one, like SSF4, were if you lose to a person with much lower points you lost a $hit load of points. id also like to have the chance to get a GrandMaster title.
I'm sad now. IMO, regular SSF4 is perfectly balanced (the top 4 could use a teeny tiny nerf, though. oh, and buff hakan a little). now it'll be a yung yang & fei-long fest the whole way through, and the big red grease machine is still a the bottom. thanks, arcade edition! (just saying, they better do regular balance updates if this is the last one.)
NINJA: "I knew that the new costumes wouldn't be in... Such a rip off the fans. After all this success and they can't give our wallet a rest and treat us with something for free..."
What's the last time you gave Capcom money and expected nothing in return? Did you just write them a check for the heck of it?
No?
Then why would they do that for you? I guess by your logic, you really "ripped them off" by not giving them something for nothing.
Is EventHubs full of Communists or what?
I'm not sure if this has been covered or not yet, but do we know if there will be some sort of way to tell (prior to a match actually starting) who has AE and who doesn't, like with an icon or something?
