Showcasing some of the tricks Ibuki can pull off with her Raida (command grab) in Super Street Fighter 4, Mikadok and HexElf crafted the clip above and wrote out this explanation.
Ibuki's Raida is a command grab but it isn't like other command grabs. Much like in the King of Fighters series, this is a hit-throw, which means that it can be guarded against. However, being an attack throw, this gives it properties that other command grabs don't have - such as being able to hit characters from much further away and even grab them out of the air. This allows Ibuki to pull in opponents from situations where no one else could. This is just a few examples of what it can do.
Solid video. Didn't know the move was capable of stuff like this.
@6.
There are only 3 really noticeable difference between this (and other hit-throws).
1. It uses the opponent's hittable box instead of their throwbox.
2. If the hitbox of these moves allow, they can "grab" someone in the air (like fuerte's guacamole throw).
3. The range of these moves tend to be a bit bigger than other command grabs to offset the fact they they can be blocked.
blahh I hate it when this is called a command grab period. To me it ain't a command grab at all, just a high priority attack. you can block it, combo into it, juggle into it, etc.
It's kinda like how Abel's super (and I think his 3rd CoD hit) look like throws once they hit, but aren't throws at all. Or Haggar's spinny air throw thing in mvc3.
Like #2 and #3 said, the timing is kinda strict and raida does not come out fast so in a real match you have to be far away from your opponent to have a chance to land it like that on reaction...
Besides, timing this online is just... meh.
how effective is this using the heavy and medium versions of the raida? and im just guessing that this was light raida all the way cause those usually have more range and priority than the heavy ones
I'm impressed.
This shuts down alot of nonsense.
I'd like to see a vid, with the attacks that beat the raida straight.
And a video with the common pokes. For example Bisons standing mid and hard kick or chun li's crouching hard kick or standing mid punch. Oh and Sakura's and Cammy's standing hard kicks..
k there are a lot of moves I'd like to see. lol
Good stuff, didn't know Raida could be used that way.
Great! I hate Ibuki even more now. Razafrazzin' neck-snappin little hussy...
It's nice to see that Raida can shut down certain options, but I never see high level Ibuki's like iyo use it this way.
I think the reason is because Ibuki needs to maintain her offensive momentum and trying to telegraph your opponent this way would force you to lose your edge. I see it used in combos, but not really outside of that. If you miss....you're going to lose some life too. It's certainly not something you can get predictable with, because opponents will just bait it.
why call it command grab when it actually is a hit-move, with a different animation in case it connects, just like seth's spin kick (and many ultras too)?
It has no throw properties at all: it can be blocked, it is triggered by the opponent hittable box and not the throwable box, can be used into combos, it is not considered a throw by the game (abel's TT is not invincible to it).
Ok
