Capcom hasn't come out and said outright when we'll get Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition, but a couple telling clues can be pieced together to paint a picture of when the title will become available.I got FG overload right now. I wont be able to get back into 3S with SFxT coming out around the same time. MvC3 will definitely get dropped from my rotation and maybe MK will die out too.
But then they'll release UMvC3 around the same time too. Argh!
Also, although this is "online edition", I sure would love a limited edition disc release.
Yeah a disc release would be pretty sweet. And I reckon MvsC3 will have some sort of ultra/super sequel. It needs it.
I still can't believe they're not taking this opportunity to rebalance the game. The balance issues are the only thing keeping 3S from being the perfect fighter. Tell me again why I should choose this over GGPO? Flashy new menu screens? Cheap looking filters slapped onto the gameplay? Capcom's hit-or-miss netcode?
#2 SFXT isn't coming out anywhere near the release of 3SOE.
Can't wait for this to come out. My Oro will revel in the new meat.
@5
Not anymore you are!
3s is off of GGPO (or soon to be taken off it) so that it won't interfere with the game's sales.
#9 re-balancing the game would simply piss off 80% of the people that are planning to buy the game anyway. The die hard fan base wants to play the same game they've been playing for years.
Spinning this as a 4th "Generation of impact strikes" could have been a better angle for change acceptance.
Disregarding Svensson's claim, either July/August/September on the Xbox 360 as part of the Summer of Arcade program and later on PSN similar to MAHVEL 2.
It can also come in November like HD Remix. Having an online focus, a beta might be a cool idea.
I expect a playable build at E3, EVO, and or Comic-Con.
@11
I can see that, but 3S has some pretty serious balance issues as any tourney player will tell you. I think it would have been better to rebalance the game and then include an option to switch it back to "Classic 3rd Strike" if you want to play the old version that we're all familiar with, rather than knowingly release a game that has balance issues.
def agree with 14. though they risk/reward ratio probly isnt there, not just because people are used to 3s, but the fact the game is so old.
but, im sure since this is the highest budget online tittle we can expect some nice surprises =D
if all that $ was spent on a filter/online, its still not so bad if capcom can apply it to other tittles. and i must say, there is a TON of sf coming out, 2 vs games....but id love to see another franchise SOON!
Capcom take your time. we want this game to be perfect (by perfect i mean the same except with online). you can take all year i and a handful of people (im sure) can wait. for those of you who cant...get some help
I'm hoping that money that's making it have such a high budget is put towards a better netcode.
Just regular/casual people that had played some SF2 in 90's and now seeing SF4(if they have seen it),i think they didn't know that a SF3 existed at all as it was a rare game and fighters weren't popular back when Sf3 came out.
My bet this time around Capcom is gonna market SF3O like if it was a new game,it should come out in September.
@22: So then casual gamers will pick it up and quickly discard it due to the overly technical gameplay and completely broken characters, but it won't matter: CAPCOM still got money for it.
@22
Capcom won't market 3s as a new game. The people who only played SF2 then SF4 now know Dudley, Makoto and Ibuki because they were in SSF4. Now with SSF4AE, Yun and Yang are there too to give more SF3 representatives. By now, 99% people in the fighting game community know about 3s.
If you want to know what would happen if they rebalanced the game just take a look at HDR.
50% of the ST players are playing and the other 50% are sticking to ST claiming that its the 'pure' version.
I rather they just keep 3s the same and keep the already small community whole.

@Shaftycakes
You are hilarious lol callin out the GGPO thing immediately.
@26
What? It's been known for a while that GGPO will can 3s in the next build, and that build came out recently.
It did have a better netcode than ArcLive and SuperCade most of the time. It just depended on spectators because they would make it lag like mad.
@14 @18
Sure Yun,Chun,Ken are extreme pain in the asses in this game. But as the game matured over the years, especially in Japan, alot of the mid-tier characters really got a chance to shine.
You see the parry mechanic in of itself is the solution to most problems many characters have in the game. (Which incidentally is why most sf2/sf4 players hate the game). The bottom tier obviously cant really compete (Sean, Hugo, smh), but there is a rather large mid and upper mid group that are extremely competitive in the right hands.
Capcom learned their lesson when they rebalanced HD Remix, the mainstay demographic for the game is going to be the people who've been playing the same game for years now and they're not going to "move on" to the new one; they're going to stick with the old one that they already know and rebalances just divide the community. You're going to have 3S and 3SO as separate games at tournaments. You can rebalance Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 because they're new and people aren't so invested in the metagame so they're still willing to evolve with the game. Rebalancing a game that's a decade or more old is throwing all the time the community invested into the metagame away and they don't want it. Capcom is better off just leaving 3S the way it is so the established community stays with it.
@29 "You're going to have 3S and 3SO as separate games at tournaments."
What I meant is that's what will happen if they rebalance the game, just like you see with ST and HDR. If they don't rebalance 3SO, it will replace 3S at tournaments completely because it's the same game with benefits that don't effect the gameplay.
@25 ShaftyCakes
I clearly stated regular/casuals(that bought SF4 and played it a week).I know people that can't tell describe who is Fei-Long,Gen or Gouken(true story) or bother to unlock them in SF4 but the bought the game day one release.
We all know whats SF3 in the fighting game community,all 100% of us and what % you think is the whole fighting game community represented as a in whole sales? not even 7% IMO.
Capcom NEEDS to market to non community,casuals to make profit.Does Capcom cares if their games get played in tourneys...not likely,Capcom is a business.
@33: You do realize you're talking to 3rd Strike fans, right? They will ALWAYS have something to complain about.
hmmmm I hate it when some fools talk about tier lists:
1.Educate yourselves and lock onto TheShend's channel
2.Many bingo-gamespot tournaments don't see a bag of ken-chun-yun winning all the time
3.The games been out for so long that people have decided how to handle characters like that...
4.Players like:
Y.S.B -Hugo
TM- Q
Nobu- Elena
Hayao- Hugo
Sugiyama- Necro
Cofee- Remy
Moge- Twelve
AND plus The legendary Kuroda plays with the whole flippin cast
COME ON GUYS...TIER LISTS ARE BULL**** :) have a nice day
I don't think we would see III at EVO anymore.
I'm on the fence about rebalancing. I love Alex and Remy. I want Alex to stay the same..but there are times when I wish Remy had a little tweak here and there. Remy's crouching forward doesn't link into anything. Remy only gets volley bonuses on air dizzy (like most characters) when he as the tools to keep them in the air (crouching fierce, jumping fierce, forward cold blue kick).
That Yun/Yang volley combo never sat well with me. I don't think it should be taken out..It would be nice if others could perform such combos outside of a dizzy. I don't know..
Perhaps I just suck with him..even after 10 years. I know I never did well with him in local tourneys...But it always seemed like an uphill battle.
Before SFIV hit...I was always daydreaming of one last SFIII that added Final Fight Characters (rolento, sodom, guy, poison, maki, cody, and maybe even haggar); and just call it Street Fighter III: Final
If you were going to present a rebalance..it needs to be done properly.
Sooner rather than later! December is ages away :( need this game in my life now!
