Capcom announced in a press release this evening that they had one heck of a year financially, and set new records for net sales, operating income, ordinary income and net income, exceeding previous estimates.• Marvel vs. Capcom 3 sold 2 million units.
• Super Street Fighter IV shipped 1.6 million units.
• While the market conditions remained weak for arcade game machines, this business segment saw the video game machine "Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition" perform solidly.
What should fans make of this? Capcom isn't going away any time soon, and at a recent meeting they stated the future is bright for their fighting games.
With these kind of numbers backing them, expect to keep seeing Capcom creating more games in this genre.
I didn't know Marvel vs. Capcom 3 sold that many copies, last I checked they were at like 1 million total. Good, I guess, but I hope they're not planning on Super Marvel vs. Capcom 3 because a lot of Marvel vs. Capcom 3's sales came from people new to fighting games that got swept up in the hype and probably won't stand for buying another game.
A good year for Capcom and yet they have the BALLS to charge a dollar for something as meaningless as the stupid Shadow Mode. Is like a good financial year is not enough we need more MORE!.
But is good to see those numbers though.
damnit, marvel does better than sf :(
idk, i guess its still good for the genre in general, it's just... marvel... just needs so many fixes. xfactoo is just not okay in its current form. DHC glitch is also kinda lame, CKCs in general are just too easy
I hate what the Videogame business has become, a land full of greedy companies. Capcom has its best year in who knows how long and how do they thank their consumers?? they don't, they over charge them for BS extras like modes or colors for their characters. Same goes for a company like activision, they make over a billion in revenue, before Christmas, yet have the balls to close down 5 studios and charge its consumer base $15 for stupid ass map packs.
Back in the day if you wanted new colors or suits for your characters, you know what you had to do? Pass the game on 8 stars without losing a round, on PC if you bought a game and it sold well, we were happy cause that meant a FREE map pack. Now, NO! they actually plan ahead on how they can milk us for our hard earned money before the game actually releases.
I buy (always first hand, unless I have no choice) the games I play, not to support Capcom as a publisher but the developers who make these games possible, since they are the ones who do all the hard work while the suits collect the blood money.
Rant Over.
Super MvC3 has to be in the works now. I didn't think MvC3 was going to do as well as it did, but judging by those numbers it's pretty hard to argue.
It'll include every character that came in the original game, AND Shuma Gorath and Jill. MAYBE two new characters. Probably 2-3 new stages. And all those sweet, kick ass shadow modes that everybody is rushing to play.
Perhaps a few tweaks and changes for XFC, and probably DHC glitch getting removed. Aside from that I wouldn't get my hopes up.
I prefer a DLC for MVC3 rather than a whole new game. Just give us the new characters (*whisper* Strider), complete the costumes packs and fix 1 or 2 glitches. I think that would be worth some of my money.
You know, I wanted to leave a comment expressing my happiness that Capcom has had such a big turnaround this year and how they have seen a large boon to their sales which in turn can only mean they will continue to present quality goods to the community
then I see the usual stuff from EventScrubs: whiny nerds who weren't pleased with MvC3's (insert everything you guys b1tch and whine for, you guys are so good for it) and some people asking for characters for AE like Capcom pays attention to this exact clip. Seriously, do you guys wonder why if someone were to rank the appreciative level of fandom, fighting game fans would be 2nd on that list right next to Sonic fans? Because no matter what they add into a game, there is always 2 people who don't like that move. There will never be a perfect fighting game, I've settled with that. But I play them all to get a sense of how much they tried. And I buy my games full price, and I don't regret it. If I don't like DLC content, I won't buy it. If I like the content, I try my best to buy it, but I still haven't bought Shuma and Jill...and probably won't have the money for AE. Enough with talk of Super Marvel already, let the game be out for a year or two before that talk begins, since Super came out nearly 2 years after vanilla.
I swear guys, show some respect, Capcom could be focusing that money on other franchises, but instead, they have teams pumping 4 mill into getting 3rd Strike back out there, as well as SFxT and who knows what else? I am sure there will be news on new characters for MVC3 next month at E3 to be added next month, who knows?
@14
You have to remember that most of the people who whine and cry on this site are '09ers who hopped on board the SF4 bandwagon. They never played a fighting game competitively before SF4, yet they speak as if they're experts in the genre. These people also don't have a clue how businesses operate, but they sure love to make demands from companies because of their sense of self-entitlement. It's really too bad because they ruin it for all the new people who aren't idiots. Other places like SRK have also been infested by these people, but there's no stopping them. It's best to just ignore their worthless comments.
As for this article, it's good to see Capcom reaping the benefits of their trust in fighting games. Things should be quite interesting next year.
I don't see why not include more character for SSF4 to keep it alive strong... oni/evil yunyang blah blah boring... add some new characters... we will pay for them just put it out there for us! and new stages!
NOW THEY CAN START GIVING US FREE STUFF, INSTEAD OF MAKING US PAY FOR DIMINUTIVE THINGS LIKE COSTUMES, AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY FORCE US TO BUY A WHOLE PACK. GETTING CHARACTERS WE DONT WANT!!! THEY DO IT BCUZ THEY KNOW THEY CAN. FK CAPCOM, THE BASTARDS FOR BEING SNEAKY, DECEPTIVE, LYING SNAKES. IT GOES ON EVIL, ONI, IM SURE ALL THESE CHARACTERS WERE FINISHED DURING SFIV RELEASE. IM SURE THE WHOLE BALANCING/BS, WAS JUST BS TO GET MORE MONEY FKIN BASTARDS. TAKES THEM ABOUT A DAY OR TWO TO BALANCE, AND TEST A GAME. THINK PPL, TECHNOLOGY IS AT THIS ERAS ACME, THEY HAVE CPU'S DO IT DUHHH. DON'T GET ME WRONG ACQUIRING MONEY IS NO PROBLEM, BUT WHEN THEY'RE BLATANLY, BEING COLD HEARTED ABOUT TAKING OUR MONEY IT'S AN INSULT. YEA, I RANT, BUT YOU CAN BET UR BOTTOM DOLLAR THEY'RE TREACHERY IS REAL. ONO TROLLING, THEY PRETEND TO WORK ON THINGS, BUT ITS LIES THEY LAUGH AT US BEHIND OUR BACKS. I BELIEVE 13% OF ANYTHING THEY SAY. NOW I MUST BE OFF TO WORK CUZ I GOTTA HAVE MONEY TO PLAY CAPCOM GAMES. GOTTA ADMIT I FKIN LOVE SSF4 >_< AND IT PISSES ME OFF!!! KK I FEEL BETTER NOW XD. DONT TRY TO REPLY CUZ YOU'LL WASTE UR TIME IDC IN THIS LIFE, OR THE NEXT BILLION YEARS ABOUT WHAT YOU SAY. SO DNT EVEN SPEAK, UR RESOLVE WONT MEASURE UP, AND YOU'LL BE TALKING TO THE HAND CUZ YOU DNT UNDERSTAND LOL. NO, REALLY NOT IN THE MOOD TO ADDLE, AND MAKE ANY OF YOU FEEL DUMB. JUST READ, AND THINK TO URSELF.
I like how people open their collective ass3s and take Capcom's d!ck with a smile. Now we have people who know who we are by slapping some random slang into their very own rant.
But what am I saying? I never play competitively before! so what the F* do I know, Is not like I have a brain to think or anything. I've never been to tournaments so that makes my life worthless.
understand how you feel but no need for caps lock. I feel that capcom has been nickel and dime us for a while now. they release DLC then the release a new game withing a year. I would rather have a complete game with costumes and characters (with no DLC) and get the new one in a year. They said that DLC keeps games alive but if thats true why are they making a new version every year.
I always think every comment will be dumb then see someone make fun of the idiots and it makes me laugh.
You guys are blaming Capcom for "nickle and diming" you but you only have yourselves to blame.
Why do you keep buying the DLC? That's the only reason why Capcom keeps charging you.
It's like if I sell pizza at a store I own, and people complain about the pizza but they still buy it, yet they keep coming in to buy the pizza, you really think im just gonna get rid of it or sell a different pizza because people complain? If it ain't making them sick or killing them, im gonna make money off of it
Money speaks louder than words. If you want to hit Capcom where it hurts, hit their pocket book, that's the only way your gonna get Capcom to hear you.
If Capcom does well it can only be good for us. It means the scene that we love so much will get stronger and has a future.
I dont understand those that bitch and think they're entitled to free stuff. Business is business at the end of the day. Plus they dont exactly put a gun to your head and force money out of you. Its your choice.
You see I'm grateful to Capcom cause guess what? Never in my wildest dreams did I ever EVER think I would see a Street Fighter 4 or Marvel Vs Capcom 3. Do you people who are whining about paying for DLC have any idea what a licensing nightmare Marvel was to make? The rights to a Spider man in a video game were owned by Activision! ACTIVISION!!!! You want to whine about a goddamn dollar for Shadow mode when they charge 15 Facking dollars for a map pack. I play Marvel and Super 4 and hell even 3rd Strike more than any game I currently own, Why? Because there fun and I can just keep practicing to my hearts content until I get better and better and I can go to my local Fight Club and actually stand a chance. I don't play on line because its littered with little buttholes and scrubs who I just don't have to patience to play I only play friends online. I'm glad Capcom did well and I hope AE and SFXT do well to cause I believe they can.
still hope they do something with alpha 3, maybe cvs3 since king of fighters is about to drop this year..that'd be interesting. also, i'm still waiting for elena and alex to be announced for ssf4 arcade edition lol ;( what lies. those 2 got snubbed hard for sure.
@23
You are right people shouldnt support companies for nickel and diming, you used a pizza shop as an example but you left out a few things. These people would have been buying pizza from you for a while, you decided to stop making pizza and make something else (no fighting games for a few years) and they you decide its cool to make pizza again. People try it and its good but not as good as it was, you decide to sell everything to make it good as separate and now some customers are ok and others arent.
I dont buy DLC but there are a ton of people who are so even if those of us who see this as nickel and diming dont buy it a lot of other people will so we are really getting the point across. DLC is supposed to give life to a dying game but all they are doing is cutting content selling the cut content and then release a new edition within a year of the original. This game wasnt even complete when they sold it to us and the two DLC characters they did sell were sold because they couldnt finish them.....I am all for supporting the community but IMO they are taking us for a ride (excuse the pun)
I bet Capcom will make more money if Alex is in SSF4AE or change their mainds and add Alex in SSF4AE
@14 right on the money sir thank you for that!
Btw men lie, women lie, Numbers don't! 2 milli Haters!!!! Lol I'm glad mvc3 moved those many units. I'm glad it even came out period. No game is perfect folks and they try the best they can to fix things so just be patient. If certain characters weren't in ssfiv ae maybe they'll end up in sf x tekken. Look at what they did with characters from the Capcom universe that weren't in tvc they put them in mvc3. Plus it's the era of dlc I'm sure they'll update the roster eventually if a game sold 2 mill I doubt it'll go without some major update. I wish ssfiv ae had more than the 4 new it has but what could do at least they did something. You'll buy them all anyway.
(Amen @31 "Money talks/All the bullshiz keep walkin'". People like MVC3 even though sometimes the vocal minority may distort that, lol.
Reposting my comments about 'Super' MVC3:
"Super" MVC3 might have spectator mode. I'm starting to think that's the way they're heading, considering all of the "regrets"/impossibilities with the current MVC3. But then again, it could be disc/DLC format, as with AE. Hmm...)
@26 I hear ya there, but I don't think anyone here wants Capcom or MvC3 to fail, as a matter of fact I think they feel the opposite. MvC3 success means a better possible futer updated version to make the game complete. The problem is not the game but the overall controversy of DLC and already-on-Disc content. It's not a capcom thing it's a all-video-games thing, it exist in every video game with online features, some DLC is worth it, some are not, some force you to buy it because it locks you out of a specific group of players (Map Packs). The point is many fighters have not been able to produce good, solid, high quality DLC tha tmakes you feel like it's worth it, for their games and stuff like Shadow mode and events, it is subpar and not fun to most people.
Yeah you don't have to pay for it but how long will it take before Capcom and others realize that a great sense of quality is necessary to make DLC successful? I only hope the success of MvC3 inspires capcom to push harder to develop worthy content now that the base game is finished.
interesting to see read the opinions on here. I spoke to a friend about what capcom could do with sf4. All of the predictions about it where true. they updated every year and new characters...everyone pays for everything but that's business. Things are not like what they use to be in the 90's(the good years for everyone well $$$$ wise) companies have to what they have to do. Yes, mvc3 will have an update there is no doubt about that. A lot of new characters, costumes, modes and fixes but capcom and many companies like it see a trend so why not continue it onward with the new games down the line. It's the age we live in now. I run my own business in ATL and we nickle and dime everything. It's revenue and it all adds up...ppl like colors, themes, new stuff and personalizing your products companies have been doing it forever. gs to capcom, you can't hate on money makers...so everyone whip out your arcade sticks/pads(back when i started pad players where laughed at and considered lame...time have changed) and spend hrs doing nothing. Time to go make money and tournament money is laughable, oh and this last note, capcom is trying to tax the tournament scene. Hope everyone didn't forget that.
there will be another cvs like game and another darkstalkers, a big vs game to end it all not mvc3 plus one more sf. then its done what else can they do...its milked moving on to the next thing
We buy the games and we're the reason for the high profits. So I wished they would maybe give us more content for what we pay for. SFIV, SSFIV AND SSF4:AE are based on the same game engine, yet purchasing all 3 actually costs a lot money. I hope that when AE come out that they will continue to give free updates to it to continually improve the content.
@38: I thought that's what they said about Super, too...
Don't blame Capcom for the cost of downloadable content. Valve has complained before that because of Microsoft's methods, poor implementation and standards it costs them a decent price tag to put content up on the network. If a company puts something up on the network they either have to pay out of pocket, or shift that costs to the user. Seeing that they had to pay employees to make the software it wouldn't make sense to then pay for the hosting as well.
Vanilla was out for 2 years before Super came out, enough with that example. So what if you were paying for costumes that were on disc, if you didn't like them then sux2bu, don't get them, it's not like it's locking you out of the game when you don't get it.
Balancing takes more than a day, you ignorant caps-savvy tool. The work that goes into making sure a move can't be straight broken or a character can't possibly win against another opponent is staggaring.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 came out February 19th. Can we wait until...I dunno...August 19th or November 19th for the buzz about a Super version to start? Plus, as you notice, some of the content isn't on disc, so let's just wait a few months, see what new characters they may announce in the future that they'll add in that aren't on disc so that way we can determine if a Super version is necessary or if we should be patient, good-natured souls that don't bite the hands that feed us.
If you want to rage at Capcom for something, rage at them for what they are trying to do with DmC.
well all i can say is that im happy with everything capcom has done and is doing for there games and im glad i spent my hundred plus on these games..... Now im hoping that on the next nintendo system we get a TVC2 and maybe all the other fighting games nintendo missed out on :)
^^^ Ha i cant stop laughing at this guy im laughing uncontrollably lol. Funniest thing all day fresh off work rlmmfaootmff lol
@17
this. A thousand times this.
@ TheShotokan
Cool story, Bro!
Despite what haters may say, this is great news for all fighting games fans.
Except for the Tekken series, the genre was almost extinct 3 years ago, and now that fighters are doing well again after almost decade of drought, some people feel the need to complain about every stupid little thing. I wouldn't be surprised if 95% of haters on these comments never played a fighting game seriously before '09.
marvel vs capcom 3 sold two million copies?? The last time i checked, They sold 640,000 copies on the ps3 and 560,000 on the xbox.. Where did the other million come from???
Capcom now knows that they don't have to do anything for the fans anymore and that includes fixing the net code for MvC3. They've made enough money off us and will continue to do so. Fixing the net code means more work.. more free work. They wont do it. But they'll keep charging us for stuff though. and people will keep buying it.
So... they make a tone of money, yet we still cant get any DLC for Marvel yet.
I call BS.
If you don't like what capcom's doing, STOP BUY THEIR PRODUCTS! And don't come to eventhubs, paying them any attention.
yea but marvel 3 was a disaster = ( this probably means that lazy capcom will give us more of the same = (
Marvel vs Capcom R.I.P = (
@57 I agree about marvel 3 failing, but I don't like the marvel vs capcom series to begin with (every single time we get a million glitches and unbalanced characters like magneto & storm). however, capcom does other things as well. you have SSF4AE to look forward to if you didn't like marvel 3, so just play something else until then.
also, way to go capcom! 250%!? that's what I'm talkin' about!
#58
true I'll still play the hell outta SSF4AE etc, etc. But as far as the VS series goes, if Niitsuma is in charge of the next VS game, I'll sadly have to pass.
btw when I said VS series I just want to clarify that I'm talking about the versus series.
seriously? Magneto and Storm broken? At least the characters have some form of balance and the team is keeping an eye on complaints and patch the game. Marvel 2 doesn't have that luxury of being patched, so we will see the game evolve into a better game over time as long as they keep patching it.
"Money speaks louder than words. If you want to hit Capcom where it hurts, hit their pocket book, that's the only way your gonna get Capcom to hear you."
So true, Capcom seems to have gotten greedy and spoiled a few different games because they're trying to get too mainstream (some games I feel it works for, others not so much, DMC would be one example).
I still like their games though, so it's good they made so much money. Since I keep hearing about things about MvC3 netcode...not so sure about that. But they are definitely doing a decent job with the fighting games.
they did a good job hyping MvC3, now if only we knew the netcode/online was terrible beforehand. hm
