At Southern Impact in Laredo, TX, we met a talented SSF4 Chun-Li player named Mike Begum (aka "Broly" or "Legs") who has a condition called arthrogryposis. Despite his circumstances, he became one of the top Chun-Li players in Texas after playing the game for just 6 months, and is also one of the best Super Smash Bros. players in the country. In this interview with Gootecks, Brolly talks about how he plays without using his hands, why and how he uses Chun-Li, and his advice for others in similar situations.

Pretty awesome! I believe i remember seeing somebody in a similar situation in a Brawl tournament in Wisconsin playing Snake but i don't think that was him. I'm glad to see fighting games inspiring people on such a massive level.
Although I'm not disabled myself, this video has inspired me to step up my game.
i find myself happy to see that SF is available for all people of all walks of life, hes not disabled hes unique and i bet we can learn a thing or 2 about options, btw good interview gootecks
man, i feel lucky that I can play on my stick :D. shiit man, life is hard on some people who have real inspiration.
mad props dog, we all learn a thing or two from ya.
I really enjoyed this type of news, very professional.
Hats off to Broly for developing a play-style that works for his condition and respect for Gootecks and the Cross Counter crew for taking the time to interview this man.
I was grinning the whole time while watching this as this gent is truly an inspiration with a wicked attitude towards playing competitively in general.
As they say here in Australia, you're a fuhckin' legend mate - keep at it. Seriously, hats off. Very impressive stuff.
Oh, and that taunt was classy as all hell you cheeky bastard xD
Yeah I was at Southern Impact and when I saw this guy step up to bat I was like "Oh this guy must have one good hand" or what ever and then he put his mouth on the joystick... Sh*t got real. Really an inspiration to people who say "I can't" a lot (myself), you can do ANYTHING to some degree if you try.
This is so inspiring. Pratically completely disabled in terms of video games yet he doesn't let that limit him as a player. This guy is so inspiring and I'm sure he will be the icon of hope for all sorts of handicapped players. Actually, I think it's rather insulting to call him handicapped because he proves himself a worthy player even with his condition.
Mad respect Broly Legs
I wonder how many people went into tournaments thinking "what a joke, I can beat this guy easy!" and then got double-perfected. This dude is rad, nice to see him overcome his disability.
Amazes me how this guy figured out which character will work best for himself with his inability to access all the buttons (lp, lk, mp, mk, etc). Guy must played a lot since he picked up SSF4. Good story.

Anyways props to this guy, he really is an inspiration.
(at least no one dissed smash in this post, good stuff)
Broly, you are truly an inspiration. Thank you Gootecks for doing this interview; it really does mean a lot to the street fighter community to know how much variety is truly out there. The FGC is probably the most varied and accepting of any gaming community, and I hope it stays that way. Never change FGC.
I hear people complain all to often that they can't play to a competative standard cause they don't have "the right controller" or cause of "bad match-ups".... Broly you are an inspiration, and a testiment to what can be achieved if you are committed to what you enjoy. Good luck for future tournaments, keep playing your hardest.
A very intelligent player right there. As long as you have a brain you can succeed in anything you want. He said it the best in the last 30 seconds of that video. Gootecks and Ross do it again thank you guys for loving fighting games just as much as the rest of us. Keep it up and Broly and don't stop loving what you do because I sure as hell do. Now I know what it means to have an Undying Spirit.
@Lordgootecks
Your comments were deleted because you made some nasty remarks. I honestly considered banning you right there, but figured I'd give you another chance. I hope I don't regret that decision.
People can talk about Smash all they want, just keep it civil and respectful, please.

another guy who plays with a disability , i guess chun li is easier to play in some ways
Time for everyone to step their game up including myself. YOU HAVE NO EXCUSES!!!
@54 everyone knows about OHT and the reason probably being that Chun Li is a charge character and she doesn't require a lot of ambiguous stick commands to do special moves (srk motions, fireball motions). She relies heavily on normals to get the job done. OHT also plays Dudley though and he's played other fighters in other games as well just as good. It really just comes down to dedication, if you can find a way to over come an obstical thats more than enough to get the job done.
Never gonna complain about this game again. Either get good or go home.
Mad props to that guy.
Yes mate. That was sick. What a guy! I'm blown away by that vid. Inspiration of the highest order. Plus nice to see so much love from everyone too :D
He has my respect for sure. I bet all the idiots who cried nerf on this game feel stupid after watching this lol.
amazing whippin with the tounge like some have said in this post no excuses for havin a rough time when u see this he makes it look easy with his mouth from the small tidbits they show mad props broddy
Wow! Amazing actually had me a little choked up! Much respect!
For whoever asked in the comments..
He mains Marth in BOTH Melee and Brawl. I am from Broly's region, everything you see here is a understatement to his true testament.

Not sure if a lot of people here will understand what happened, but yeah, Broly so godlike.
How he figured out the option selects in his button set up to fit him is ingenious.
Huge respect for this guy just shows how awesome fighting games are and how there is not such thing as set backs.
Very inspiring and very awesome interview! :D
Very great and uplifting story. Always amazing what humans can do when the find the resolve to do it. Best of luck to him.
@songman: No it proves that what you are doing is so simple a child could excel at it..A simple video game that anyone can be great at if they play. Non of this nonsense the "community" talks about like having talent ect...Just a video game.
This is nothing new, a handicap excelling at something, I just love to see it everytime though!
I'm glad that this guy found away to do what he loves even with the handicap that was given to him
Keep Noel away from this dude. No telling what he'll do next lol.
Broly is a beast though. Very f***ing cool to see people like him showing that level of skill while I have capable friends that piss and moan about stuff in fighters. Hope see this cat fight at EVO or SBO.
Much respect to Broly!! and I'm very happy to hear he has his new motorized chair, hopefully that will make it easier for him to get to more tournys.
WOW! just wow ive seen OHT on youtube and at first i didnt belive he actully plays with 1 hand...well a deformed hand anyways but 1 hand none the less and now this guy also interesting is that both these players like useing Chun li i also like using Chun li shes my mane and fave witch to me just makes using her that more interesting shame we dont get to c many good chun players n turnys when shes just so all around good -_- sigh, hopefully that will change but just truly amazing how these guys can play this game so well despite there phisical abilitys so no one should EVER complane about ssf4 when truly EVREYBODY can play this game.
This story makes me feel like an a$$hole, this guy plays with his face pretty much and does well from what I can see. There are many times where I bitch and moan about a game to point of rage, without looking at the bigger picture. The ability to actually play the game using my hands. The story truly puts everything into a perspective that is much grander than the game itself. Thanks Broly.
@95 MikeRoss
I understood the video itself (which was great and inspiring) was not an April Fools joke--I thought Catalyst warning who I thought was gootecks was a joke. As if "Why would the person who did the interview make nasty comments" in a makes no sense kind of way.
I never saw the original comments.

Mad props to this guy.
