Possible origins of the hole in Evil Ryu's chest

Ever wonder how Evil Ryu got that big hole in his chest? Well, Hadoken.net did a write up, with images, explaining how it may be based off of a manga by Masahiko Nakahira, who apparently created Evil Ryu and Karin. Here's a clip from the page.

Well it seems Capcom is honoring the work of famous mangaka Masahiko Nakahira who made the Street Fighter Alpha mangas as well as the famous Ryu Final in which Ryu gets almost killed in his final battle against Akuma, where the latter punctured Ryu’s chest.

This is not the first time where Capcom borrows ideas from Nakahira-san’s mangas. In fact Evil Ryu was a creation of Mashiko Nakahira (in the Street Fighter Alpha manga) as well as Karin (who was a character specifically created for the Sakura Ganbaru manga) and the background for many other characters.

Evil Ryu is the "what if Ryu". So he is not canon, but an interesting possibility.

At least that is what I think.

I still think Evil Ryu in IV is going to pretty much be the Satsui no Hado separated from Ryu, like Good Buu and Bad Buu.

If they are going by Masahiko Nakahira's storyline, then that's another hint that Akuma is Ryu's father, although not revealed by Capcom and still left ambiguous as to Ryu's origins.

Nono, Evil Ryu IS cannonical. In Alpha 3, Ryu goes nuts the satsui no hadou and Ken and Sakura have to beat him and Bison. At least Bison anyway, I forget which person/people have to fight him.

In Alpha 3, Bison only brainwashed Ryu, it wasn't the true Evil Ryu consumed by the Satsui no Hadou.

It's most likely the "What-if" idea, because it would be hard for both of them to exist at the same time, unless fighting in Ryus mind or something like that. I just started playing as him at my local arcade. He's so very dirty, but so much fun to play as.

you guys realize you're complaining about unoriginality in a game with several different versions of a single character, right?

I love street fighter, but let's be honest for a moment. the way most people thought of akuma when they first saw him was "hey, look, an evil version of ryu". everyone loves akuma, even when they just thought of him as an evil ryu, so why be hatin' on the real evil ryu?

Evil Ryu is cannon but its more like ryu only turns to him cause he lost control and uses the sastu no haduo and since he only tapped into it in those situations he has no control and thats why act crazy or insane.. and this Evil Ryu is just like a battle scare version.. (almost like an alternate costume even though its not)since its after his encounter and loss to akuma..

Yeah, the alternate costume looks ridiculous...RIDICULOUS! The clothing is ok but the hair is just stupid beyond all description. As a huge fan of all shoto fighters (including Hibikisan) and how exciting they are, I can't wait to play Evil Ryu (without that God awful alternate) and Oni.

Guys, the ONLY time Evil Ryu was considered canon was during the first Street Fighter that Sagat hosted and it was only for a very short span too. Evil Ryu ONLY appeared during the time Ryu was losing to Sagat and temporarily gave in to the Satsui No Hadou to perform the Metsu Shoryuken to win.

People seem to mix SFA3 with SFEX, which seems to take place at the same timeline. SFEX was a spin-off and non-canon since Akira developed that story rather than Capcom. The SFA3 version (canon) was only a brainwashed Ryu and concluded with Ryu not tapping to the Satsui No Hadou thanks to Sagat. On EX (non-canon), Ryu gave in to the Satsui No Hadou to try enacting revenge against Akuma and kill him.

Everything else is either "almosts" (SFA3, SF4, SSF4), speculations (SF2, SF3, SSF4), or pays homage to other works.

Then again, the SF storyline no longer makes sense anyways *coughIbukiSakuraSameAge*. Interquel my butt.

Yeah man Cody is a beast. In the Udon comic Ryu wouldn't fight him without him first removing his cuffs, and when he did he put the spanikin on ol Ryu lol. Although Ryu did turn into Evil Ryu and beat Cody like a snare drum afterward lol.

I never said that Evil Ryu never existed! I was referring to the portrayal of how Evil Ryu was described in the games being non-canon.

Evil Ryu did appear shortly on the SF IV Ties That Bind (before SF4 plot), but unsure (possibly unknown at this point) if that is considered canon or not.

like it really matters whether ER is cannon or not. all i know is that hes another character to play with. thats what we all do with SF right? we go to arcades and we play it. we dont sit with our friends and try to solve the "ER is cannon or not" mystery.

This Ryu was mde from the MANGA. It was the final battle between Ryu and Akuma (Gouki) it was kind of cool, Akuma did the SHUN-GOKU-SATSU!!! towards ryu ,finishing the powerful move puting his arm thru ryu's chest, ryu also countering the attack his hand on akuma's chest and doing a one armed hadoken also putting a whole in akuma's chest but also had some of his body in missing pieces but akuma was still able to finish the battle! Oh and also that alt custome for evil ryu is akumas outfit from the manga when he battled gouken and killed him! So that was pretty lazy!
