After being unlocked prematurely Evil Ryu is scheduled to make his official debut this week, March 25, in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, according to Famitsu magazine, via 1Up.
"Each skill on Evil Ryu launches more slowly than regular Ryu, but tends to have more force," wrote Japan's Famitsu magazine in their coverage. "The control feel is nearly the same as Ryu, but the basic attacks that get used the most, like crouching medium or heavy kicks, launch more slowly as well. On the other hand, the opening after firing a hadouken is smaller, which seemed to make him pretty strong in projectile combat. Like Akuma, he doesn't have much energy, so fighting with him using the same style as Ryu will get you defeated pretty quickly."
SSF4 Arcade Edition DLC for the consoles has been all but officially confirmed at this point, and it's expected that an announcement will be made about it in April at Capcom's Captivate event.
Tip from OdinReborn and kerrangCL.
Oni is far more interesting than Evil Ryu, even with his ryona-esque win animation.
I can't wait to do his story and find out how he got a hole blasted through his chest cavity, I'm guessing Oni did it while accidentally sneezing....
(Last two spots? Are we still keeping hope there's more than Yun and Yang? MVC3 kinda stole my heart since AE hasn't been there for me.
What? I was lonely! SSFIV abandoned me!)
AE actually made me LOSE interest in Street Fighter. When it was announced, I was excited at the possibilities.
But then the repetative character choices, the intentional unbalancing, the endless procrastination on console release...
I don't know. It got me hyped up and then let me down. I'd probably be playing more SSF4 now if AE had never been announced. Playing an outdated version of a game that seems to be getting an unbalancing patch gives me no incentive to want to play.
Hmm, I wonder when Oni is going to be officially unlocked. Here's hoping we hear some official news about AE for consoles at Captivate! There's a lot potentially on the table, what with SFxT and 3S Online still in the works.
Personally, I'm holding out for a PC announcement of SSF4, but this is all great news either way.
Well there was this report that AE was Dropping in Japan.
this is probably an attempt to hype the game.
I hope they learned there lesson.
and Balance Arcade Edition DLC for the consoles...
Capcom needs to hurry up and release this. Went back to SSFIV days after playing MVC3 due to is balance issues and lack of modes line spectator and replay mode. AE cannot come soon enough.
@6
What are you talking about? There ARE more than Yun and Yang, E Ryu and Oni. Plus the people who said there would be 6 new characters also predicted when Arcade Edition would be released among other things. The only thing suggesting against two more is the achievements, which I admit is pretty significant.
Now they will properly announce Evil Ryu for AE and hopefully, I think they'll tweak him right.
I believe the hype was better with the leak than basically dinding out like this. Old news now that they are "officially released" also not much hype since most people don't have time to go to arcades.
Capcom spent so much time trying to bait us that at this point, I dont even care if AE comes out for a home release.
Oh, hey....Evil Ryu is coming to ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...........
Alex, Hugo, Q, and Rolento are at the top of my wish list, though Hugo and Q are just personal favorites of mine who (at least comparatively) wouldn't add anything unique to the roster. Alex and Rolento would definitely be solid choices. Representing unique styles and different games.
as you can all tell "creeper" knows what should be in AE lool just like any sane person would.
I still say scrap hugo, we don't need another slow but hard hitting character
Can't be bothered to play an outdated edition, and until AE drops for consoles at a reasonable price, I can't be bothered with it with MvC3 and SF3OE on the horizon.
i have to agree with some people on here, having AE dangled infront of me makes it harder to put serious practice into SSF4 now, knowing that there is a updated version out there and not knowing exactly how/when itll come to consoles. not to mention Japan leveling up ridiculously.
if the wait is going to be this long they at least need to fill people in, these vague answers and "wait until our press events" are getting kind of old(imo) when we're talking about a "3rd" iteration(or 3rd payment w/e). im not trying to b*tch, but i mean the characters are already announced just admit whats up with consoles.
im actually planning on driving up to Seattle to get my hands on their cab for a day or two. still super hyped about it, and as long as there is some balance tweaking im sure the wait will be worth it in the end.
I really don't see the appeal to hugo, he's just a slow grappler in my eyes, where as alex, rolento karin etc have multiple appeal but then again its how you look at the character, I just want alex or karin in AE, either 1 is fine, i just want a very mobile grappler that ISN'T abel lool
@28
Skullomania :D haha
On a serious note, looking forward to this on console
The only thing I see E Ryu is good for and can win with is his capablility to fadc into both of his ultras. If his fadc combos is more damaging than Akuma's, I can see him being used in tourneys. If not, he's going to be another Seth.
Nyway, I'd really like to see alex in the game, cuz I used him in SF3, He was like a grappler who wasn't slow. He has ways to get in, and u don't really have to rely on his grabs if u don't want to. I'm also looking forward to oni akumas, cuz he seems more like a new character. I'm not happy with evil ryu, but I'm sure I'll be playing him and like playing him nonetheless.
I think AE is the most balanced SF capcom ever released. Strong characters were made a little weaker, and weak characters were made a little stronger. Despite the fact that yung (especially) and yang are overpowered, are the rest of the cast pretty balanced. It's like every character has a fair chance of winning. You'll always have a character who is better against another character, or else you won't have variation. But unlike most other people here I'm really looking forward to it. Sometimes I wonder if the people are even Street fighter fans
to @57: I'm hoping for Alex to come because we need more SF3 characters other than Ibuki, Makoto and Dudley. We need more variety.
@56: We know Ono is a troll and he does this for the heck of it.
I agree with #10.
Unless there is something big in the works prior to console release AE as it stands has actually made me less interested in SF4.
If they undo the unbalancing and add Karin and Urien I may be more interested but I still would not be looking forward to the army of twins and clones that will be online.
@59 I totally agree with you, I find variety very important in a game, especially in a fighting game. It's what makes a game appealing for me, it's also why I try to main a lot different characters. Playing with characters who are so different from each other can make the game feel like a different game somtimes.
But even if they didn't add alex, I would also be happy with hugo, urien, sodon, karin or whoever. As long as it is someone who plays a bit different than the others from the cast
@60 I don't understand you, For me was super street fighter 4 the same as like playing fifa 10 and then buying fifa 11. An upgraded version of the game, AE is also an upgraded version of the game, not a big one though, but nonetheless an upgrade.
And yeah ofcourse you're gonna see alot of twin players online. That's normal, cuz they are new AND they are good. No one force you to play with them. And the more you play against them, the easier they'll get for you. When I play online I espect to see in most cases ryu, and when they do, I'm glad. Cuz I know all ryu's tricks
@65 I agree, a chance is not necessarily an improvement. But the changed game include 4 "different" characters which is in my eyes an upgraded version of the former game.
And it's true that it's pretty boring playing against the same character. My brother ALWAYS plays honda against me and after 10 matches I'm pretty bored.
But I'm pretty sure you'll be seeing other characters too though. Maybe not in the beginning but certainly after a while
i mean evil ryu is going to be upper tier (top 5). just think, akuma was added later in japanese arcade and he is ranked like 3nd or so. why would capcom add a low tier character late that nobody would be interested??
so for 4 all yo nigaas saying evil ryu is asss character. u just got ur assz handed to yourself....
This is what Capcom needs to do with the SF4 series
1) Keep Oni and Evil Ryu arcade exclusive so ppl continue to play in the arcade.
2) Add into the arcade and console edition Rolento, Karin, Eagle, Alex, Urien, Elena just to shut everyone up.
3) Take Hugo out the Skyscraper level to put the thoughts out of you lots heads about him making the series.
4) Slow down, weaken, make moves harder to execute, change frame data/hit boxes or remove some moves from Yun & Yang. So they Gods (not GDLK) in the game.
5) Bring back Vanilla SF4 Sagat and Give Zangief the air throw he had in SSF2 HD remix. Take the range of Guile air throw away
6) and call the game SSF4 Turbo.
lol who cares. theres no hype to his "debut" considering we've already seen him. anyway, i'm far more interested about oni than evil, even though oni's also been seen.
alex would be a great addition to ssf4 engine because for 1 he cant get parried like a bitch LMAO, karin is would also be superb due to the amount of things she can do with her large arsenal of rush down moves and when you try to block expect to be command grabbed lool
we r all asking for new characters but the fact of the matter is how many ppl are gonna complain if they turn out to b God/S/Top tier. In all reality just nerf Yang, Yun and Fei Long and we will be good to go..... for the third time. but no patches this time let ppl learn to play the game before we all complain n mess up a potential classic.
Nerfing a character cud potential unbalance a character in more than 6 match ups and is that worth it.`
loool GUNNAH_MAN u need to calm down with wanting alex in AE i told u before its unlikely he'll make it stick with cody lol
@GuN_SLinGa
lool alex will be in, my instinct tells me so, if anything hes most likey due to demand, the fact abels the only mobile grappler, the fact capcoms retardly just added 2 more fireball characters, the fact hugo is in the fudging background on construction stage and another thing hes unique in that he has nearly every motion in the game.
I'm hoping for Alex to make the cut as well as Karin.
Then, it'll be off to the lab I go!!!
@83
I wouldn't be so sure.
2 Chinese comboers
2 shotos
The way I see it, it could either be two grapplers (Alex/Hugo/R.Mika) or two Final Fight characters (Hugo/Rolento). All of the other characters have been related, so it would make sense for the last two to be.
I wish capcom would just give in and add another 6-10 characters. I see people asking for them all the time. (even when the thread topic has nothing to do with adding more characters) The new match ups would be the best way to add longevity to a great game, assuming they are balanced decently. It doesn't have to be perfect. (I liked overpowered Sagat.)
They could even have an official poll to chose a few of the characters to get people more excited.
@Virtua_Kazama
you should be the the standard of players today maybe then there wouldn't be be so many "poor" players
@50sent
tbh in my opinion most likely characters to come are grapplers, alex and hugo but... I really don't like hugo so I subsituted him for another popular character that I happen to like which was karin lool I have nothing against rolento but he was kind of de-confirmed so I try to not bring up my hopes on that 1.
Im not so...interested in this anymore. I was excited to play Yun, but i dont like using a char that everyone is going to use at as well. And I am just going to assume the twins and a over rated evil ryu and non cannon(but interesting) Oni are the only new chars for AE.
I'm pretty sure Rolento is being saved for SFxTK (or is it SFXT?)
@58 Relenzo
SSFIV:AE is NOT the most balanced version. The twins were purposely over-powered so everyone can sort of get a feel for them. There was an article of either Seth or Ono saying this themselves. If and when AE does come to consoles, you can bet they're going to tweak it a bit more.
Well... im pretty excited.
If ae is just about confirmed already....
Imma be playing oni pretty soon i hope <3
And ofc capcom saw that the community liked the 2 characters. Even tho its two more shotos....
But still, oni is promising, and im looking forward to Supder Duper Street Fighter IV
at first oni seemed great but... he looks defensive and well isnt AE supposed to be aggressive, its not like hes much of a sagat (defensive) and he seems slow, on the plus side he looks sik lool
@100 They didn't make her weaker. They took an Ultra that required zero skill to use and made it an actual part of her gameplan/strategy as opposed to a free "get off me" tool.
Be happy, you play a character that now requires a little more thinking. That isnt a bad thing.
@102
Yes, the ultra was a free get off me tool but the catch was that it takes off very little life compared to other ultras. Rose was still not a top tier character and already not easy to use. If someone needs to be made more difficult to use, it should be Ryu, Ken etc..
@105 doubt that will ever happen because Ryu and Ken have always been designed to be easy to play. Always has always will be. They have always been the staple archtype fighter so it's difficult to make them difficult to use without completley changing the game around. Ryu is good in some games and not so good in others just depends on the game. This game Ryu shines because the system works in his favor.
@92 I feel how you feel. Yun was my favorite character in SF3 before I even knew he was S-rank. I was hoping for Yun to come back but did not expect everyone including Daigo to jump the boat. I'll probably only use him for studying purposes.
Everybody knows this is the 20th anniversary of SFII right? We can expect a return of two SFI characters and a HUGE box set for stores to celebrate. One that will probably contain a download code for 3S online, HD remix and more.
I wish we could fix balance issues as opposed to releasing new characters.
Yes, I'm still bitter Abel got nerfed needlessly.
Also, they could've added Alex instead, then this picture (http://i55.tinypic.com/21al6pv.png) could be reality.
Noobs don't need to verify whether Yun is overpowered, top players like Tokido already confirmed it. lol
I think Capcom will give us at least two characters (which goes hand in hand with six characters).
1) Rolento & Alex
2) Rolento & Karin
3) Rolento & Charlie
4) Charlie & Karin
5) Alex & Charlie
Well, those are my picks since these cats are entertaining, yet have high demand as well.
I remember people on SRK arguing with me that only Yun/Yang would make it in. But they were wrong, we got two additional characters. So why wouldn't I think there is a change we'll get two more?
We need to pressure Capcom into giving us at least two more! Let the people speak.
i dont need a new character lol ken in AE is dangerous hes in the top tier and is the best out of the shoto's now, i mite play around with yang but not yun, everyone will turn to him due to daigo.........
There has already been a flood of new Ken players in SSF4, so I have noticed, thanks to the AE hype.
Amazing as to how all it takes to improve a character overall, is to simply PLAY as him/her for alittle while and become proficient. But hell, why don't we just listen all the time to the three or four people whom played with a new character for the two whole weeks they did and then moan to Capcom that they need to tweak in coming updates?..
That being the case, here is my plea now for Capcom to improve Sean in Super StreetFighter IV: Ultimate Arcade Edition Turbo, cause he sucks to high hell in Super StreetFighter IV: Ultimate Arcade Edition.
Oni is obviously Akuma and Gouken's master or someone on that level. Oni has normal moves similar to Gouken and special moves similar to Akuma.
Oni's has this unique teleport-dash forward karate overhead chop move that is really the best of teleport and dash palm. It is obvious that Akuma learned the teleport part whereas Gouken learned the dashforward palm. Akuma learned the raging demon and Gouken couldn't get it.
Air dash is unique for Oni and that allows him to do air demon. Neither Akuma nor Gouken got this ability. Akuma however is close because he can at least do the demon. Being a better student, Akuma also got air fireball which he managed to learned on his own path and is better than his own teacher on this path.
@barefeetryu
I don't understand why people just don't get it lol its clear its a new character instead of people assuming its akuma.
I can't wait to fight thousands of these online when AE drops.
