Also, there's a two part uncut interview with Daigo Umehara, as part of the Thanks for Playing documentary, from back in 2010, at Seasons Beatings. Subjects range from Daigo's most memorable moment (surprise, surprise), thoughts on female gamers, and other stuff of that nature. Hit the jump to see the other videos.
There's also a short trailer here, with NSFW language, for the Thanks for Playing documentary.
NO daigo hasnt been around since he discovered this

Its not awkward to be standing in a room with people staring at you asking stupid questions. Get Daigo a chair, a nice cup off coffee, and a donut. Treat him like the godlike player he is.
Last time i check Daigo was Playing AE and practicing mvc3.
Ok.. About the Daigo interview.
#1. I'm no expert on interviewing people but in ANY interview you have to be prepared and have the questions you want to ask him with you beforehand or at least remember what you want to ask him when its time. Otherwise you'll be sitting there wasting his time and yours trying to think of questions off the top of your head. Its kinda a sign of disrespect to the one being interviewed.
#2. Consider that the guy came all the way from Japan so he's probably really tired for a number of reasons. Its almost like disrespect to him if you ask him the same questions he's been asked a million times before. It could make him think you didn't really care about the interview and you just wanted to get him on camera to get yourself views at his expense; And that whether you know it or not that could make him shun future interview attempts from Americans since he doesn't know if they'll have anything interesting to ask.
#3. Trying to crowbar out of him about if he "admires any American players" is a hard question and in my opinion should not have been asked since he's beaten all the top players here (not that we don't have admirable players). He gave the answer I expected which is "none". The reason he was standing there thinking was probably because he wanted a way to say it nicely.
I'm not bashing the interview or the interviewers. I'm just going by observation. At least you did get the interview. Good stuff there :)
@#9
Dickriding HARD.
Daigo has yet to beat Filipino Champ, who raped him at SCR.
The last like 4 tournaments Daigo entered he has been repeatedly beaten. Andre, Justin, Ricky O, s-hit even MARN has beaten Daigo.
You know what pisses me off and is the reason why I don't like Daigo/Daigo interviews? He comes off as cocky. "I am the best and admire nobody except legendary players in Japan you wouldn't know about"
I am glad he has fallen the f-uck off.

Con't:
Does anybody remember the legendary matches between Daigo and Valle back in '98 posted here like last week?
He could have said Alex is an American player he admires. I mean it's not like the 2 haven't known eachother over like 15 years and seen eachother in tournaments in different iterations of the series COUNTLESS times.
@11
are you a moron??? in 1998 after the tournament with Valle (SFA3), he switched characters from V-Akuma to V-Ryu as a sign of respect to Alex for being one of the best (if not the best) players hes played. do your research hater.
@#10..
If you knew how to read then you'd know I'm not speaking as a fan of Daigo but just in general; obviously even THAT is hard for you to understand though so there is no point explaining anything else to you.
You make it sound like there are loads of reasons to admire ssf4 players. Its not like its a charity or something, we're talking about people playing a game. Every man for himself. Who cares if the guy doesn't admire USA players?
Calm down.
With great fame comes great infamy. The more people love you, the more people hate you. So yeah, there are many Daigo fanboys, I'll give y'all that one, but there are just as many Daigo haters. You call the fanboys dickriders? Then the anti-fans ... I will dub thee: dick..choppers?
Nah that sounds horrible. I got bored of waiting for the translator to say "he says..." so I stopped watching midway through. (I've spoiled myself with subtitles hah)
Admiration is a word used for superiors, or at the very least for legends. That's why he said the only players who he admired were those obscure Japanese guys... the guys who were the heroes/pros when Daigo was still a newb. When he became one of the world's best, everybody pretty much just became either a peer or below.
Daigo is 29 friggin years old, a legend in and of his own right, no kidding he has nobody to look up to in this scene, best or not best. Some newcomer prodigy might be able to say "I really admire Alex Valle" and stuff even though they might be better than Valle (who doesn't take home trophies anymore), but it wouldn't make sense coming from Daigo. His ageless Jappyness hides the fact that he is a total dinosaur like Valle (except he hasn't fallen off nearly as much), it would be silly to say he admired any current player.
Hell, JWong probably wouldn't say he admired anyone if asked the same question. And if he did it probably wouldn't be Ricky or FChamp. They're great, they're rolling these recent tournies, but they're not going to be admired except by people significantly beneath them.
@10:
He has beaten Marn, Justin and Ricky Ortiz a lot of times before, especially Justin (and he beat Ricky 3-1 at EVO).
I don't know about Andre, but that event must have been pretty annoying for Daigo with all those loud mouth Americans behind him.
And as for F.Champ: I don't play Ryu, but I'm pretty sure that Dhalsim is his worse match-up. For one, Air said so himself, and two, Dhalsim is the only match-up I've seen Daigo struggle with. It really is limited in terms of what he can do, unlike pretty much all other match-ups.
@1:
lmao. I saw that video about a week ago, and I never really thought Mike Diva looked like Daigo. Although he does now that I think about it...
there are money matches after he learned dhalism between him nd philipino champ as well as sabin and he has beatin them both here is him goin against champ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awIiOz... he beats him convincingly
@ 10 saying you admire another dude is some homo s@#$.
In his Norcal interview, Daigo bigged up John Choi and Alex and recognized Justin Wong as the bes US. player despite some hating on Wong. Don't be blindminded by a translated interview. Haters will hate on, fanboys will defend. He is not invincible but he is the most consistant player ever. He nevers shows off and lets his skill do the talk. Whether he loses or wins his face is still ._. So much for "he is cocky." Guiness record, anyone?
Also I watched the other parts and Daigo took that money match. Bodied him actually.
Lol, that was such a funny azz interview. They do need to get better organized, maybe map out questions on a paper first or something to collect their thoughts.
Still, the question about female games have Daigo a reaction!
And lol at "does he have a girlfriend?" God I rflmao'd. Diago always keeps that to himself, I guess the mystery was killin' em.
He is just being very honest, he's not making pretty statements to make someone happy. He speaks through his experience and his experience alone, so he doesn't need to hype up his answers. He basically said he respects J. Wong for being the best in the US, but he doesn't have anyone to look up to.
Anyone wondering why Daigo hasn't gone to tournaments in months its because he's been doing this on the side:
