A true fighting game fan likes all fighting games and doesnt put one over the other or start these little "X game is better than X game" arguments. I hope neither of you actually talk about games outside of this website or you're giving us all a bad name.
@5 Capcom is going nowhere, it's 2-D fighters will remain the crown jewel of tournaments for many years to come, no doubt, Capcom will -never- be, "off the map".
@9 Stop acting so self-righteous, I'm not a fan of talking down fellow gamers and other respective games in the scene but everyone will always have their preferences and reasons for those preferences. If everyone didn't compare games than there would be no SFxTekken.
Why are all you guys so eager to hate on MvC3? Most of you never even played MvC2 because you are too damn young to know. Furthermore since when is KoF ever knocked Capcom in anyway? The only time KoF made noise is when they knocked on Capcom's door and begged for a crossover game of their own.
Marn is just being his usual salty self because he CHOKED on all three of his matches. If MvC3 wasn't competitive then he wouldn't have to play. How can any of these people think that for one second MvC2 is the better game. Really, it had a roster of 5 characters that actually were viable in a tournament. Marn can go eat himself into a coma for all I care.
A lot of you missed Marn's point. he's not saying MvC3 sucks, he's just saying that MvC3 is not gonna hold interest with Pro gamers. Pro gamers are not out there to make Combo videos, youtube videos of them playing, they are in it for the money and they want a game where sheer skill overrides randomness. You don't want to lose $1000 because some scrub picked Sentinel, Tron, and Wesker and mashed buttons all day.
Yeah they will play it but MvC3 is'nt gonna be the spotlight over SSFIV or SSFIV AE because those games require skill over character dominance. I do feel Marn is over reacting on the hype timeline. It will probably die out by the end of the year IF AE comes out.
Everyone wanted this unchallanged craziness in MvC3 and it kinda ruined the game because it was trying to immitate MvC2 instead of improve upon it. Had they spent time working on improving the forumula it would have been a nice game, still crazy but with a sense of control. Right now MvC3 is way over the top.
Again Marn is not dissing MvC3, but it's just not competitive, a lot of Scrubs go on here and pick Ultra cheap Top Tier characters and mash buttons and think they are nice and have bragging rights but these same guys probably sucks at more technical games like SSFIV or KOF, promis you. At least some of the pros are trying to mix it up a bit. really liked the Spencer, Shehulk, Taskmaster by Combofiend.
The only thing he said that bothered me was that it doesn't have a "competitive" quality...Sure, this game is in EARLY development when it comes to new blood mixed with veteran blood...the game will weed itself out once time passes and everyone can stop being salty about Sentinel users and/or "Random" wins.
Give it time, we'll see a difference.

I personally belive that he was just expressing that you should love fighting games as a whole, and not say that one fighting game is going to own another completly in the face with no hope.
I do agree with #10 that you will always compare fighting games, but personally as a fighting game fan, I hope that fighting games do well in general. Im jsut as hype for ssf4ae as i am the new MK as I am mvs3 as I am kof14.
I dont think any one game will blow any other out the water, and I hope it dont happen because that makes the fighting game scene smaller.

I don't think its fair to compare MvC3 to MvC2 at all though. When a game is as loved as MvC2 was and you wait 11 years for a sequel, it will never live up. Mahvel has this ungodly hype surrounding it, and no game ever will recreate it. I think MvC3 is here to stay, but those unrealistic enough to think ANYTHING can live up to that need to get past the disappointment and see the awesome game given to us first.

@10 Actually I am an fps fan as well and I do try them all. But If I dont like one I dont go to a website based primarily on that particular game and start trash-talking it and saying how much better other ones are. That's just childish and attention garnering behavior and pretty sad to be honest.

Then you've never actually played mvc2, right? When somebody does AHVB x3 times by Cable, you'll probably reconsider your decision of mvc2 being a "fair" game. No offense, but you sound like you became spoiled by SSF4. There is a lot of bullcrap in mvc3, and I understand that because thats "MAHVEL". Of course, X-factor needs to be tweaked simply because it changes the flow of the game from complete non-stop madness into game of tag.

random people with sent, storm, and wesker owning tournaments? really? name one tournament where the top players got knocked out by the random factor. last time i checked, top 10 has been pretty consistent with the big names.
mvc3 has everything mvc2 had save a couple characters. and they did improve what mvc2 didn't have. characters are balanced (evidence from jwong and combofiend). there are still loops like in mvc2. there are still infinites like in mvc2. there are still godly assists like in mvc2. need I go on? the only real difference is the x-factor which is a necessary change to keep things fresh and not just mvc2hdremix.
Wow...I get so sad listening to Marn sometimes. He really keeps the thought that he's hated by the community in the back of his head. :(
UltraDavid has some great insight into how things would have to be run and what it would take to get a fighting game league going....I'm stoked!
MvC3, just needs to have bigger prize money in tourneys. MK9 has a 21,000 dollar prize for one of the upcoming tourneys, so fighting game pros/ enthusiast are going to it.
MvC3 will have patches and DLC to sustain it over time.
I personally think that since MvC3 matches go so fast that matches should be more than best of 3.. should be at least race to 5. semis race to 7, finals race to 10 and Grand Finals race to 15.

If the pro's want a more skill based and challenging game, pick up something else like KOF. Capcom wants to cater to casuals and new players with SF4 and Marvel.

@14 PRos are gonna play MvC3 because there is MONEY involved. If 10 Bucks and a little bit of skill can earn you a cool 1000$ or whatever, is'nt that worth it? He does'nt think it's competitive but that won't stop him and others from trying.

What do you think Marn meant when he said it was too random? Thats exactly what he's talking about. Not my words, it's his I just made it clearer. And I just threw those charcters out, I honestly don't know who is top tier but im just saying, what ever team is the best your gonna see them a lot and they will probably random out some Pros in the near future.

Played MvC2 since release up till now so I understand just fine. Not good at it and have my crappy low tier team but thats just me. But I do think MvC3 is an immiation of MvC2. My opinion is subjective you don't have to agree but dont' try to tell me im wrong.
Folks people are playing this game because thats where the money is for now and it's a new game. Once new fighters start coming in your gonna see more of them and less of MvC3, it's gonna happen.
you know... i do sorta like the idea of a league... start small, end big... and i know smash players were making like tens of thousands of dollars a year... which is pretty big!

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't trying to insult you or anything, but it's a little obvious when someone doesn't play high tier characters. I never said I was good at mvc2, but its just that there is a different mentality when playing high tier characters.

I hate when people say act like they know the future and can tell people like their word is Final. I bet you if Marn won atleast ONE tourny, he would be like "Oh this game is gonna last forever!" I'm over doing it a bit, but you should get the jest of what i'm saying. There is no "random" factor in this game, Nearly all of the MvC3 tournies had the same people make the top 10. How is that random at all? If YOU choke and drop a combo that is YOUR fault. Is you make a bad play thats YOUR fault. Thats not random at all, you just need to stop making bad plays and stop coming up with excuses
I dont agree with any of the negativity on mvc3. This is either coming from the infinite high tier picking people or the ones who can't play the game. I love mvc2, I can do my cheap gameplay and use infinites but it was highly boring. So I picked the low tiers to make it more interesting. In mvc3, every character is pretty much evenly matched 1 on 1. Not like mvc2 where there's a huge gap between, let's say... Magneto to Roll/bison. I think that's why a lot of people don't like the game. That has to be the only reason cuz I mean, if you loved mvc2 then mvc3 just overall destroys mvc2. Nothing's gonna change that.. Just because Ssf4Ae or MK is coming out? hahaha... I'll give mvc3 a rest just to put my time in MK to get good. But to say it'll die off is just dumb. Lol.

You have a pretty good point. But if you put your time into mvc3, you'd know that the top tier characters in mvc3 isn't god-like like the top tier from mvc2. And guess what? Mvc2 was a competitive game. Marn just doesn't like how well balanced it is, so he talks as if there's something wrong with the game. If you're gonna tell me a scrub can just enter a tournament and compete with the best, you're sadly mistaken. I faced the tron, wesker, sentinel combo too many times to know how to stop it. And that's what you gotta do, put the time in. You think the sentinel assist then wesker gun shot teleport is gonna work the entire game? lol nah son... Matter fact, anyone on here who has played mvc2...go ahead and tell me right now WHY.. mvc2 is better then mvc3??? Give me some good reasons please. I would LOVE to hear this. What makes mvc2 a competitive but not mvc3?
I will give Marn props for being real though. MVC3 is a mixed bag unless a balance patch comes out otherwise SSF4 AE and MK will overshadow it along with Tekken Tag 2 and maybe KoF XIII if it releases as a rebalanced game.
