The Monster Hunter team turned down Capcom's request to add a character from their franchise into Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Strider isn't completely owned by the company. What about Dead Rising. We heard Frank [from Dead Rising] was cut at the end, but how about Chuck [from Dead Rising 2]?
Seth: We thought about both of them. We have a little bit of work that went into Frank. Actual development work, not just lists on paper. We didn’t have time to wrap that one up, but Frank and Chuck, both of them are pretty popular.
What about Strider?
Seth: Strider is definitely popular. He is one of our top fan requests period. Awesome character. Harder to model in 3D, but the other challenge is there are licensing issues around him. It’s not a purely owned Capcom IP, yeah. You try to break less hearts while keeping it fresh and surprising with a little flavor there.
What if Shuma was replaced by a POPULAR/concurrent Marvel character?
What if Capcom wasnt so hell bent on having ANNOYING, OP characters in all of their titles.
What if we had ALL of the characters for free? without paying out HARD-EARNED money to access them.
What if we had GOOD QA testers @ Capcom that knew about the glitches discovered within one month after release
What if the PRODUCER wasnt obsessed with Darkstalkers?
What if Capcom knew that stealing other people's ideas is WRONG, and a "I'm sorry" wont cut it.
What if they didnt FIRE great talent?
What if they used the DmC crappy looking Dante?
What if the game had Mega-Crash?
What if the game damage was lower?
What if............
@BATZARRO Naive? I'd say he's downright stupid. I get sick of this hippie crap about how video game companies only care about money and not quality.
#2 Yeah man because they design all those characters and it costs them nothing to do it and they should give you everything for free. Yeah try having someone tell you to clean there yard and do it for free for 12 hours out in blistering 100 degree heat in high humidity without a break yeah you should do it all for free because dammit they deserve it. Yeah try having someone pitch that s--t to you.
I have never seen Shuma Gorath used much. And the times I have seen him, he wasnt a good character at all. Someone like Spiral was different. To where when you did see her, they were good players and made her look like a good character. Used her cheap but still good. Shuma was just a waste to me.... c'mon capcom!
Who said I wanted a certain character from Marvel, I never said any names. I just want a character from Marvel, that is NOT JUST A JAPANESE PERVS WET DREAM!
I rather have Marvel be HAPPY with their decision and be prosperous rather than be forced to fulfill Capcom's Otaku desires!
@Mr_Clack
I'm a hardcore Marvel fan, but I wouldn't replace Shuma for the world. He adds so much variety and he's hilarious. I don't care that he's only ever been in 12 comics and never was like he is in this game. He's still awesome. I hope this encourages Marvel to use him more (And given that he has some recent appearances in Invaders Now, that seems to be happening!)
#19 Don't worry Capcom is happy to have Shuma Gorath to be in the game also.
Considering it was Capcom's first marvel pick and begged Marvel to have him at least as DLC.
and Lol at lower damage, considering I see a lot of time over wins occur.
and Overpowered Characters usually become annoying (due to people not liking to get beat such "cheapness"), not the other way around.
people knew about the licensing.....will they stop??? No!! why? Because its not a big deal...why? because its Marvel 3....think about it.
@ shichi Yea the License thing is a total different situation of why Strider wasn't in the game Agree. But Seth Killian didn't have to lie and say "Strider is harder to model in 3d", Look at all the 3d poly's Sentinel has and how long the render time must be for Phoenix when creating her?.
Believe me Capcom has some very talented artist and for Seth to say Strider is hard to model give me a break.. Its kinda throwing it in the artist if you think about it...lol
GOD! who needs more new characters! this game is so damn diverse that I can't believe people are asking for new characters already. Maybe if you guys stop using sentinel and phoenix, you can see how many different playstyles there are
(Put Frank back in! MVC2 Jill! There's still time!)
(Now that I've read it, do NintendoXCapcom, put it on the 3DS, guaranteed to sell like hot cakes unless Smash 3DS comes out...Still probably would sell well.)
#27 Frank and MvC2 Jill?
Lolz they are both are the same exact style of gameplay.
Just Frank will be fine, since it fits him a lot better.
Though it would be nice to have Jill in the STARS outfit.
(though I personally want a costume where Zero is in the Megaman Zero form).
What if companies decided to DELAY games instead of charging FULL PRICE for a purposely unfinished game to charge us more for later.
What if Companies charged LESS money for the games finished early and the DLC content (Patches and all) adds to equal a full price game?
What if this series continues the tradition of adding ALOT of characters.
What if people didnt demand to have Japanese voices for American games. It would equal more content on the disc.
What if people READ comments instead of assuming Troll?
Still wanting my Frank West. Better be in this game.
If strider is so popular why doesn't he have a new game? I mean like who ever holds the rights to him doesn't want money? Like what's up with that?
@2
What if Shuma was replaced by a POPULAR/concurrent Marvel character?
Then Capcom would be lacking a character they enjoyed.
What if Capcom wasnt so hell bent on having ANNOYING, OP characters in all of their titles.
Then we would not learn how to strategies.
What if we had ALL of the characters for free? without paying out HARD-EARNED money to access them.
Then Capcom would be losing money.
What if we had GOOD QA testers @ Capcom that knew about the glitches discovered within one month after release.
They do.
What if the PRODUCER wasnt obsessed with Darkstalkers?
Then he would be miserable making the game.
What if Capcom knew that stealing other people's ideas is WRONG, and a "I'm sorry" wont cut it.
Huh?
What if they didnt FIRE great talent?
Who did they fire now?
What if they used the DmC crappy looking Dante?
You're just making crap up now...
What if the game had Mega-Crash?
What the hell is Mega Crash?
What if the game damage was lower?
Then time would run out.
What if Capcom knew that stealing other people's ideas is WRONG, and a "I'm sorry" wont cut it.
Huh?
What if they didnt FIRE great talent?
Who did they fire now?
-MegaMan Creator and the Resident Evil/DMC/Okami/GodHand/Viewtiful Joe Creators
What if they used the DmC crappy looking Dante?
You're just making crap up now...
-I mean if they want current versions, just go with him.
More people wanted leon from the FAR more popular Resident Evil 4.
What if the game had Mega-Crash?
What the hell is Mega Crash?
-Play TvC, It sacrifices Meter and a bit of life to stop potential long combos.
What if the game damage was lower?
Then time would run out.
-Not if running away wasnt a viable strategy. or if people knew real combos.
Lol, he obviously didn't mean that they didn't have the resources/manpower/technology to model him.
He means that Strider is difficult to "get right", i.e. he's not suited to 3D and would take a lot of effort to look right compared to other characters.
Take as an example how Sonic the Hedgehog looks in 3D compared to his 2D sprites - it's not just about graphical grunt but, well, a lot of game characters were designed in 2D before games even had proper 3D graphics, so they essentially require a complete redesign of how the character looks before they can even begin modelling them in a game.
Thus, he definitely could be considered harder to model in some ways which are not immediately obvious. I'm not saying I agree with Seth or Capcom, as I don't really see what is so difficult myself (I don't think he is any less suited to 3D than any other character!) but I don't think anybody has the right to call BS without using their brain first. Perhaps they made some mockups and he looked awful...who knows?
@2
your "What ifs" are retarted, Shuma was awesome in Marvel Super heroes but MvC2 took away what made him great, MvC3 seems to brought it back.
If he was THAT Obsessed we wouldve seem Anakaris and BB hood, Marrigan and felicia got ALLOT better and Hsein is a classic.
If By "Annoying OP" you mean CREATIVE characters like Joe and Ammy than your more retarted than you look. MODOK was creative as hell and would want to see more creative characters than just clones and Hadokeners.
@23 - Yeah because I'm sure you know about modeling characters in that game more than he does. Do you know all the details that would go into making him and exactly how much work it would be?
Know-it-all comments like yours with no basis are really sad.
@ Anomaly, I take my work in to dedication and respect. No I don't know it all and never will, however I can model and do model for a video game company. I find Seth a great person by the way, its his lack on knowledge of what a 3D artist can do. I honestly feel he didn't know how to answer that question in the interview, but the license thing is believe able. So to answer your question: "YES! I do know about modeling characters", enviornment's and level design. as for programing and writing stories I do not.
@Clack
What if companies decided to DELAY games instead of charging FULL PRICE for a purposely unfinished game to charge us more for later.
>You would be here saying:"What if companies met deadline".
What if Companies charged LESS money for the games finished early and the DLC content (Patches and all) adds to equal a full price game?
The company can't make more games if they don't make profit. If people show themselves willing to buy at a price, there is no incentive to sell lower. And believe me, making games costs. Like a lot.
What if this series continues the tradition of adding ALOT of characters.
>This game has 20 new characters. If you're talking about amounts, 30 something is a good amount, considering it's an all new engine. Maybe you want more than the last game.
What if people didnt demand to have Japanese voices for American games. It would equal more content on the disc.
>How many resources do you assume voices take? Also, voives ARE content. But the straight answer is: companies might put them anyway because if you must localize for US. it doesn't take that much to put the original voice tracks you already recorded on.
What if people READ comments instead of assuming Troll?
>People behold suck wide eyed ignorance and they can't believe a "normal" person would seriously say such things.
A Crossover with Nintendo would be awesome, he should seriously take it into consideration and ask Sakurai, seeing them fight against each other in a VS. System would be awesome!
Mario Vs. Ryu
Samus Vs. Megaman
Captain Falcon Vs. Jin/Batsu
Link Vs. Strider
DK Vs. Sonson
Pit Vs. Morrigan
Felicia Vs Pikachu
Yoshi Vs Amateresu
Kriby Vs Seth
The list Keeps going!
@2
LOL, it's like you compiled most of the examples of why EventHubs' comment sections are crap.
What if Wolverine, DeadPool and X-23 had Healing ability hypers? Only Dante? Really Capcom???
What if X-Factor was different for everyone? (Some get armor, power, speed, healing, no stun, higher defense, no air-lift, build meter faster, etc.) 3 of these combined max.
@52
What if you stopped trying to look smart with the "what if" pattern when it makes you look so stupid ?
You are complaining about overpower characters and now you want the biggest head scratcher stuff included ?
Half the time Marvel can't decide if Wolverine isnt just immortal and a god , or the actual level of power of each individual .
Personally, I think the Kellogg's characters would be OP. A Snap, Crackle 'n' Pop team would have tiny hitboxes but their frame trap where people lean in close to hear the noises would be cheap as hell. Coco turns the fight chocolately too fast, but IFC Yipes likes that so Capcom will play to the fans. And don't get me started on Tony The Tiger's level 3 hyper, that should make him tourny illegal.
KVC is gonna be sick! Can't wait for my team of Dig 'em Frog /Toucan Sam/Mr. Mini-Wheat or maybe Tony the Tiger/Crackle/Ryu. It's Kelloggs baby! ROFL that would be fricken brilliant.
He's obviously trolling with that "Capcom vs. Kellogs" statement. There's NO WAY they would consider that over a "SF vs MK" crossover (which has probably been demanded as much as people demanded for MvC3). But with the stupid s**t Capcom has been doing lately I wouldn't be shocked. -_-
@33 You know you're not one to say that when you suggest a character I've never heard of over two more popular choices.
Well no you didn't but the new takes precedent over the ones already used in previous games.
And I'm talking about the poll that was held on Capcom's site. People voted for who they wanted as DLC regardless of the factors. Whether they make it in is up to Capcom and Marvel.
Come on Seth just announce the AE dlc already :(
