A massive earthquake and tsunami struck Japan on Friday. You can find information of what's going on on any major news outlet, such as CNN.com or the BBC.Capcom's Tokyo office was evacuated as a precaution, but everyone seems to be okay. Thoughts with my friends. Stay safe.
Also, Kotaku wrote a story telling how some of Japan's gaming greats have pulled together.
There's still so much that's unknown at this time, so stay tuned to the major news outlets for updates.
This really is terrible news. . . I hope all heals completely with time.
Here in Hawaii we are seeing its affects as well. I hope everyone stays safe and pulls together. Everyone affected is in my thoughts.
I hope everyone in Japan is okay. My hearts go out to them for I pray they go through this safe.
I know for a fact Katsuhiro Harada of the Tekken series got caught up in it, but he and his team are safe as far as I understand. he seems more inconvenienced by it if anything, although he seemed slightly worried for Ono-san's safety.
#12 Wow... insensitive.
Anyway i hope for the safety of all people affected by the quake.
Can you guys post the current situation of sf4 players from japan.
Please ban/ or delete rude, offensive comments not the time or place. My condolences to all those affected.
wow, Scary to say everything that's many different cultures predicted had been coming true, of course not all at once but many natural catastrophes have been occurring, and sadly to say many more are to come :(. heart goes out to Japan. I just hope 2012 does not bring the big one
Upon seeing the news, words alone cannot begin to describe the shock and sadness I feel for everyone out there in Japan at this time. I even have a friend out there as I speak. My thoughts and prayers go out to Japan.
#12 & #18: Seriously, now is the not the time. Go to hell.
On topic, I have read reports that the earthquake and tsunami also devastated a nuclear power plant near Fukushima in its wake. Thankfully officials said that there are no radiation leaks at present time. Petrochemical plants in Sendai and an oil refinery Ichihara City have also been hit. The possible ecological ramifications of this disaster could be huge, my heart and prayers go out to everyone in Japan. If I hear of any ways that we can help, via charities such as the Red Cross, I'll see if I can post a link here for anyone interested.
I saw Iron Maiden flew into Japan as it was happening for a 2 night show at the Super Arena in Tokyo during the weekend. Although Saturday night is canceled I hope the Japanese fans will get a chance to see their idols on the Sunday night should everything go down alright and the safety assessment comes out okay as trying to get back to normal everyday where possible as fast as possible is probably the best to go about this, and what better way to forget your worries for a few hours than going to see a band preform live and we all know Maiden will put on a good stage show for them and raise some Japanese spirit.
And I hope as zUkUu says it turns out not be as bad as it looks at first glance and everyone can pull together and see this through and I feel from Maiden's When The Wild Blows best sums it up
Say a prayer when it's all over
Survivors unite all as one
Got to try and help each other
Got the will to overcome
So yea I think they should come out alright, it will take time but they'll make it.
Sorry if it seemed I was rambling...... ^^"
@Assy02
It's completely uncalled for to make snide remarks when hundreds of people have lost their lives, hundreds more are missing and a down right terrible situation has taken place. It shouldn't be a problem to show a little decency and respect given the circumstances, but if you're incapable of that, you're not welcome on this website.
Stuff like this makes me wanna cry. I've had fond memories of my visit to Japan. My prayers go out to them and the people of Japan.
Love, Kazama Hadou.
I also forgot, thank you Catalyst for putting this up on the website.
I'll be in Chiba (Tokyo, where that big explosion took place) in about 2 weeks...
The accounts that were banned are probably just one or to people with multiple accounts. Why do people tend to be silly in serious situations. hope for the future is lost with people like these. My prayers goes out to japan and every land hit by the disaster.
Wow...my condolences and prayers go out to Japan...that's scary, even for people who survived it...
I saw this last night on breaking news at around 11 or so. From the sky cam, it was CRAZY seeing the water consuming so much of the farmland and housing near the coast at such a fast rate. It was also scary watching the people in their cars who you could SEE trying to get away, but some of them were overtaken by the water.
The things nature is capable of is scary, indeed. I'm reading Ecology of Fear for one of my courses this semester, and it really makes you wonder about the future of some places. The people of Japan have my prayers.
If there was an earthquake in America, there wouldn't be a story on here. Weeaboos. I hate you. All of you. I HATE YOU!
@37
If we had an earthquake in America that was as BIG as this one AND had a devastating tsunami that followed which destroyed acres upon acres of property and killed thousands of people, we would hear about it EVERYWHERE.
@37
Also, you're just BEGGING to have your account banned, aren't you?
I'm sure when the World Trade Centers were destroyed, just about EVERYONE in the entire world knew about it. If you can't express any kind of sympathy, then just leave it alone.
(That sucks! Stay strong country from another continent!)
Depressing news.
Glad we are sending U.S. troops to help out over there.
oke oke people, don't get all butthurt about my comment, geez(it's not as if i said it to a japanese person). yeah, i can imagine how terrible the situation might be. not that mourning over it in the comments ever helped anything. i just always say what's on my mind and take things like a man, sorry... :(
@19 Grimmjow316
you can argue about this site not being the place for comments such as mine, but fact is this isn't the site for this kind of news either. i admit it was a bit ahole-ish of me to say the least, even though it surprises me how the whiners and crybaby's of this site suddenly get all serious when i, of all people, make a lighthearted joke. i'll just leave it at that.
again, with apologies to those who think i should go to hell.
malda, i don't quite understand your comment and if it was directed towards me(cause of the Dm acronym), but if so, i also apologize to you.
i hope the beast himself is not hurt in this quake....
want to see him compete in EVO this year bro.
@ 52
This news is here because a lot of us, like me, have family and friends in Japan, not to mention a major part of our fighting game family and community is in Japan. Your comment on wishing the Tsunami would hit Capcom is highly uncalled for, I have friends that work there. If you don't like the price of the costumes then DON'T BUY THEM, but this story isn't the place to voice this. Please don't get me wrong I'm not mad at you but the last thing I want is anyone wishing for more buildings to get hit.
Please be safe everyone!
I hope everything goes well. It's all over the news. This is sad stuff. Especially hope our fellow fighting game pros and friends in Japan are alive and safe.
For those who are not affected by the disaster I hope you take the time to be thankful for where you are and what you have. My heart and prayers go to the familis in Japan.
My prayers and thoughts are with our friends, family and our people in Japan.
To everyone: You can find information on Americans that are
living in Japan by calling

Thank you for caring.
@crispylinks77
Then you shouldn't need to prove to the internet you don't care. You can do that by not posting at all.
@59
"At least I'm not like most of the people here who need attention by posting on a GAMING site about how much they want Japan to recover."
Yes, because we're really short of insensitive @ssholes on the Internet. When someone puts a caring and wishful comment hoping that people are safe, some dickhead has to come riding in being a jerk to the people who are giving their thoughts and feelings.
I was watching this occur live. It was terrible to practically see life die in front of you. This is a tragic event. What isn't as bad, but still terrible, is that the economy of Japan has reduced more than 60% then it's peak of the early 21st century and the amount of money it is going to take to restore the country. Did anyone see how much damage that did? It is borderline absurd. Nuclear plants had to be shut down which is a multi million dollar operation on its own, let alone all the other pieces of damage that came along with it. Completely devstating.
For those wanting to help; you can donate to help relief efforts at http://www.redcross.org/
hope all goes well in efforts to recover all that was lost my prayers and thoughts out to those that lost so much
wow. this week is ending off real bad for everybody. i missed a job interview on wednesday cuz i ended up in the hospital only to find out that my appendix had to be removed. when i finally woke up from the surgery and turned on the t.v. and saw this, i was shocked to see all this damage thats goin on.
much love for japan, hawaii, and those states that were caught up in the tsunami. pray for nothing but the best everyone.
My prayers go to all our brothers in japan, isn't this a way to show that the fighting game community are closer than, just the game, if it is about contributing to help, then getting in contact with the community down there, to extend the help. I mean all fighting game community around the world. Just an idea!
The image above shows deserted Tokyo streets, but was not taken by a professional photographer. It was taken by a video game designer, Masahiro Sakurai — the man responsible for Super Smash Bros.
Sakurai noted the lack of cars as he posted the image on Twitter. He wasn't the only Japanese game developer to do so. The entire Japanese game industry seemed to take to Twitter, like Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, who let others know he was okay, like No More Heroes designer Goichi Suda, who warned others, or even like Last Guardian designer Fumito Ueda, who checked if others were okay. One Japanese game exec even apparently rescued a "helpless" junior high schoolgirl.
Watching the footage on CNN and other news stations when tons of water flow across the streets of Japan was something else. It's almost like looking down on your floors when you accidently overflow the sink. Anyway, this disaster is a lot worst than the Haiti quake if you guys think about it. When Haiti had their quake, it does not affect the rest of the world since Haiti is just a country. However, when something like this happens to a commerce country like Japan, well, lets just say the stock market is going to drop. Look what happened to the stock market when North and South Korea had their little feud. When stocks drop, prices go up.
HELP OUT A LITTLE , ONLY A LITTLE IS NEEDED FROM YOU ...
REMEMBER EVERY LITTLE BIT COUNTS UP TO A LOT AND THAT HELPS.
DO YOUR KARMA SOME GOOD AND DONATE....
FOR THOSE WHO NEED MORE INFO ON DONATING ;
Hey everyone lets all help out the as much as we can the above link. Lets to this. We won't sit back as humanity suffers. Not joking here. We must help our friends.
Just to let everyone know I am stationed in Misawa Japan, and we got hit hard here but not as hard as Sendai did. The Tsunami literally stopped about 2 miles from my house. So far the power has com back on here but they are planning on shutting it off again so they can fix certain lines. Anyways, we are doing fine where I am at.
pretty sure everyone knows about this event. I don't want it shoved in my face everywhere I go. Could you please just stick to news for the games?
#58 well said
About the 2 reminging Super Street Fighter 4 Characters it will be a little while longer till they are revealed
My thoughts are with those affected by this disaster. Please look at the other places cited or any other major news outlets for updates on this situation.
If I come across news as it relates to Capcom and the earthquake, I'll post it here.
