Street Fighter 4 Volt was just released on the iPhone/iPod Touch platforms and Touch Arcade has already posted a review. As online play is one of the major new features the piece mostly talks about that aspect, but it also covers what else you'll get with the game.
By default you are set up to accept any online challenges that might be out there. This means that if you’re running through the arcade mode you might suddenly get interrupted with a challenge from a random player online who’s searching for a match. This ensures that there should always be a pretty large pool of players to match up with when you feel like throwing down online, and it also gives it that old-school arcade feeling of having a complete stranger walk up to your arcade cabinet unexpectedly and issue a challenge. Of course, it would be hard to even make it through arcade mode with constantly being interrupted with matches, so thankfully you can easily switch the auto-acceptance on and off at will.
As for the actual experience of competing online in Street Fighter IV Volt, so far it leaves a lot to be desired. Random matches are easy enough to find even in this early stage of the game’s release, but they are usually plagued with lag and are prone to randomly disconnecting. Sometimes the online works near flawlessly, and when it does it’s absolutely brilliant. But more often than not you’ll be subjected to jittery animations and momentary freezes that can really disrupt the flow of a game.
Street Fighter 4 Volt is currently on sale, and the price will gradually increase until July 6, so if this is something you're interested in, it's a good time to pick up the game.
Yeh... Not only that, but I think people disconnect on purpose right before you're about to win. That to me is the most pressing issue with the game.
What can I do to get this on Android? Capcom, let me know
I hope I'm not the only one who plays with SP Assist. I seriously cannot do it normally because the touchscreen likes to change when its smooth and rough on my thumb.
I've been sitting looking for a match for about 25 minutes. no luck.
I got the game for my iPod Touch 2G since the first SF4 was fun. Don't do it! It usually crashes during the loading screen and the 1 time I got it to load it felt like it was running at 5 FPS. At least I only paid $0.99 and I'm hoping to get the new iPhone whenever that comes out so I'll be able to play it then.
This game runs great! Don't know what everyone is complaining about. Online is a little spotty, but still fun. If you never got the first one I suggest picking this one up. Its worth it for the local multiplayer alone.
Everyone needs to back off about the online play. That's Apples and American infrastructures fault. No other iPhone game requires this speed of online play for success and this is hardly Capcom's fault. Let's not give'em trouble when it's not the game's fault because they might not release more iOS games if that happens.
And I really want more iOS games AND Android. Come on Cap!
Also, @Outrager, you get that negative review outahere. The game isn't even supposed to be downloadable to that device. How you even got it to do so in the first place is Amazing and not Cap's fault either.
I didn't get crap for having the first street fighter 4
I'm also pissed off at the amount of rage quitters.
The game is hella fun, and though the online is Kathy at times, but then again anyone comes in from anywhere, near or far. The disconnects/ragequits are tedious though, aside from that, great game for my iPhone.
Lag :(
