The Arcade Edition guide for Gen has been updated here on EventHubs. If you follow the link, you'll see a rundown of all of Gen's moves.Gen is a character that excels in the normal move category. Equipped with some of the best normal moves in the game, Gen can switch between two stances to get the best library of moves available to him. Gen's stance-based moveset also equips him with two Supers and two sets of Ultras.. Because of the usefulness of his moveset, Gen also has a very good punish game along with a superb crossup game.
Gen's weaknesses lie in the fact that he depends on EX to get his only good reversal. He also has to constantly switch stances tenuously in order to bring out the full potential of the character. His stamina is below average and he doesn't have a fast mixup game on the ground. Lastly, his damage output without the use of meter is below average.
A big thanks goes to out to consistent contributer That1nega for talking about Gen and showing off his combos and juggles.
FINALLY
One thing that was missed though:
Shiitenketsu may only deal focus damage, sure, but if the opponent doesn't have that much health then it's still an instant KO. Which, considering that this does a relatively high amount of damage, is not too hard to do.
You know, if they were going to intentionally make AE unbalanced to a degree, they should have made characters that require more skill to use like Gen more powerful, so there's a bit more reward for all that effort to learn him. As it is, you put in all that effort so you can play a low-tier character.
Gen is crazy buffed in AE. love him now! Strange hearing all that "Gen is lowtier" talk back in Vanilla when that was his actually his strongest form. Also, AMAZING focus!

Not everyone bases who they want to play as solely on tiers. Some people like me put in the time to learn Gen because...*gasp*...they like the character!

I wouldn't doubt the guide just because it's missing a few things since it's very well written and great for someone looking to learn Gen.
Character specific stuff usually gets omitted from these guides, so it's no surprise that the Zan'ei to Teiga combo isn't there. A mention of low hitting Oga to Teiga would have been nice since I don't believe that's character specific, but it's pretty damn difficult to reliably pull it off.
My point is that if you're looking to combo into Gen's ultras, you may as well use U1 and use Teiga in specific match-ups, which is what the guide more or less already states.
I do agree that it should be mentioned that Oga CAN cross-up, however getting the positioning and timing for a cross-up isn't the easiest thing to do.
Are we allowed to write guides for any character and submit them? I could do and updated one for Zangief.
"- No short-range combos into untechable knockdown."
TC/normals into EX hands into sweep. You can also link into crane c.lk and juggle with mantis c.hk.
"+ Can walk quickly, regardless of stance."
Mantis stance walking speed is average. Crane above average.
"+ Quick backdash"
His backdash is 27 frames, which is slower than average.
"- Hard to combo into Ultras."
Hands into Super into Ultra is probably the easiest and most damaging high-damage hitconfirm combo in the game.
No mention of standing strong frametraps. No mention of ability to turn any landed poke into big damage any time he has at least 2 bars.
Sorry guys, this guide... needs work.
The shriveled old man will RISE!
Nice guide.
@catsscrath: Isn't EX Hands into sweep character specific? I know it works on grapplers and Dee Jay (because the latter has his very own specific suspicious collisions category).
But yeah, the part about the Ultras feels erroneous. I mean Gen's no Rufus but there are plenty of ways to connect his ultras... more with his first set, though.

Pretty sure EX hands to sweep is character specific. As I already mentioned, character specific stuff usually gets omitted from EH guides. Crane cr.lk to Mantis sweep is an easy and universal one though.
Crane walk speed is one of the faster walk speeds in the game. Mantis walk speed is above average. Both are good speeds.
"Hard to combo into Ultras" still stands when you consider that anything that doesn't involve comboing his ultras after a super is not easy, both in the sense that Gen doesn't have too many options AND because they're difficult in an execution sense. Just because Gen can burn his whole super meter just to connect into his ultras does not disprove that point.
It is true that his back dash is nothing to write home about though.
But come on now, let's not get too nitpicky here. Nyoronoru did a good job on the guide for a character he probably doesn't play as.
Hes not my main but Hes fun to use, Has very good Cross ups,
