Capcom's Christian Svensson answered a TON of questions on the Unity Boards concerning the upcoming release of Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition. When will we hear more about the YouTube upload feature?
Svensson: The answer to that question gives away a bit more about how the YouTube functionality works than I'm willing to say right now.
I'm going to have to beg for patience. We'll give a full rundown closer to Comic-Con or EVO.
And to be clear, our YouTube functionality isn't something facilitated by the Xbox libraries. This is our own implementation. As such, Microsoft's recent YouTube announcement has no bearing on our timing.
Are the stages and the music from the first two games going to make it as free DLC? — Crazy-Legs
Svensson: Not discussing DLC until after launch.
The version of SFIII OE that was shown at E3, was that the final version, or is there still more work to be done?
Svensson: It's a release candidate. Can't say final until it's approved by Sony/MS in each territory. It's in submission now.
There are no plans to release sometime in PC?
Svensson: As stated previously above, no current plans for PC but we'll see. For a change, I have some concerns about a PC SKU on this one.
Is a PC release a technical limitation? — CLAMP
Svensson: [...] It's not a technical limitation. It's just additional work (read: cost/time/opportunity cost) and as I've said repeatedly, given how long people have been playing SF3 in a form on PC "for free" (in most cases, not legitimately), I'm not sure that's the best opportunity for us. That said, we're still considering it somewhere down the line. We'll see how it goes.
I've read about 8 room lobbies where you can spectate. Is it possible to disable spectators? Because on GGPO 3S when a lot of people start speccing it causes a lot lag spikes. — Alexander
Svensson: According to Derek (the producer) "You can’t disable spectators, but our game is not the PC version of GGPO, so I don’t think it matters. There shouldn’t be any way for a spectator to lag out a match in progress, no matter how poor his connection is."
Even though there are claims that this is the most 'arcade perfect' port made available to console to date, does that mean that the speed will run EXACTLY the same as the arcade board? — Vinny
Svensson: Per Derek again - "To the best of our ability to test the game, it is arcade perfect - including the game speed. We’ve brought in expert players to check it out, and compared to actual arcade cabinets. If there are any discrepancies from the arcade version, I don’t know of them."
To add some context we brought in "known" SF3 players from both North America and Japan to play and test the game with us. The few issues they had identified in that process have been addressed (none were speed related).
Your next question is inevitably "who did you bring in"? And the answer for that is that you'll have to wait and check the game's credits when it's out. Those guys are all still under NDA so they can't come forward but there's some big names on both sides of the Pacific involved.
Is the game going to have the arcade cabinet view from Final Fight: Double Impact? — Crazy-Legs
Svensson: Yes... but better. See [this video].
Will this game have a public test or online beta? — MasoDx
Svensson: Nope. No beta. The game is in submission (which is to say, very nearly done). If you'd like to wait for the game to be released until next year, we could talk about doing a beta to make you feel better, but I'd suspect that wouldn't go down very well with most folks who just want to play it ASAP.
Secondly, very few console games... and very few digital-only console games (I can think of only one, and we did it) have betas of any sort.
That is not a realistic expectation.
Will we be able to turn off the dynamic achievements that appear on the sides when playing the game in either normal or arcade cab view? — ShadowKnight28
Svensson: If you pick one of the two widescreen modes, they are not displayed.
Will the game feature revamped endings, like animated endings with voice over work? — Crazy-Legs
Svensson: No. I will remind you: this game costs $15.
Can we play Arcade Mode and at the same time be able to accept online challenges like in SF4?
Svensson: Unfortunately I don't believe we implemented this.
How can you offer this game for $15 going by the amount of time/money put into it? What kinda numbers are you planning to get for sales on this? — Vega
Svensson: It's a risk we felt was worth taking.
To be fair, we have good history with SSF2T HDR and MvC2 on the platforms in question (both of which are among the most successful titles on PSN/XBLA). So historically that has given us some confidence that we can reach an audience, though we do know SF3 is less popular than SF2 or MvC2, so we do have to be careful.
I know some of you have noticed we have a DLC menu item in the game. While we're selling it for $15 to hopefully attract a reasonably decent audience given the value it represents. We are hoping the DLC downstream will raise the ARPU (average revenue per user) on the title beyond that of what we've seen on other titles.
I think it's fair to say that there are few better values for $15 for games, but we are also hoping that people get engaged enough to get a little more content. Could we have put everything together and sold it for $30? Yeah... but by putting together a compelling base package and selling the other stuff a la carte, we've given folks a lower barrier to entry and lets them decide what additional pieces they find of value.
And to head off the next question... no, we won't be talking about specific DLC plans until after launch. 8)
Will custom soundtracks be enabled on the PS3? — Everyone's Friend
Svensson: Unfortunately, custom soundtracks are not supported.
Will the game feature a brand new intro? — Crazy-Legs
Svensson: Not really a new intro. It largely "builds" the main menu but the original intro is unlockable from the Vault.
So you'd rather they added features that would otherwise be available for purchase on DLC, and charge everyone $30 for the game? Selling the base game for dirt-cheap then charging for additional DLC seems completely reasonable to me. But I guess people will complain no matter what, even though they play and enjoy tons of Capcom's games.

Will the game feature revamped endings, like animated endings with voice over work? — Crazy-Legs
Svensson: No. I will remind you: this game costs $15.
I find this funny. MvC3 costs 60 bucks and doesn't have this either.
A bit disappointed that we won't be able to turn off those dynamic challenges in fullscreen mode. I would've preferred to play the game that way, but now I'll probably have to play in widescreen. Those challenges would just be a distraction to me.
Will the game feature revamped endings, like animated endings with voice over work? — Crazy-Legs
Svensson: No. I will remind you: this game costs $15.
lol
@3 - Most likely will not happen. His response to Vega pretty much means they want to add little stuff for a couple of bucks to try and raise the overall profitability of the project.
Some of these questions he answered (no one posting here) are ridiculous. Someone asked about a beta test? Are you for real?
-Svensson: a few months after launch
"SF3OS sold much better than expected. To be honest we didnt expect much from it, if only to calm down those annoying fans asking for it daily."
Maybe if they spent less time making pointless things like challenge mode and the vault, they could have done something that people wanted like rebalacing the game.
Just sayin
Cymatics
when you consider the whole point of this game is to add online support and give an arcade perfect port adding arcade request (which was in SF4, a now 3 years old game, has) would be a nice feature and not to hard to implement. Especially, when you compared it to adding in trails for everyone and Save state function for training as well as uploading to you tube and unsaved replays a cache of 100 videos just in case you forgot to save something you though was cool.
Cymatics
also having an arcade request function dose something for people who don't want to sit in a lobby looking for a game.
EmeraldFont
Very few people who wanted for this since MVC2's and HDR's release want 3rd strike rebalanced, the few who did (me included) are highly annoyed about this also.
@16
Well, I'd rather have a gallery and achievements than a re-balance.
This is just like the pissin and moaning about the Yun/Yang army in SSF4. Two "OP" characters that I've beaten the crap out of EVERY TIME I've played them.
You ppl need to take your meds and relax a little bit.
( "SF3 is less popular than SF2" I hope 3S folks read this, and understand why chars games etc. aren't given the SSFIV treatment)
All these people whining about how the game hasn't been rebalanced are really starting to annoy the hell out of me, and I'm guessing that I'm not alone.
The game is called "Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike Online Edition"... pay particular attention to the "3rd Strike" part of that title.
If they rebalanced the game it would no longer be "3rd Strike" but "4th Attack" or something like that. It would no longer be the same game.
Next time you're going to say "Capcom sucks because they didn't rebalance the game, they never listen to fans"... think. They have listened to fans. Real fans of 3rd Strike. The fans that have been playing this game competitively around the world for longer than you've been allowed to walk home from school all by yourself. NOT fans of SF4 who've just discovered SF3 & think they're the only ones who matter.
If you're upset that the game wasn't rebalanced, then you have no respect for the 10+ years that the game has sustained a competitive and genuine fan base and quite frankly I find you to be somewhat dense.
"Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike Online Edition" is NOT a new game people. Understand it.
I'm not even a 3rd Strike player, I'm just not a moron.
@Samurai
Your singing to the choir friend. I've played since SF1... I've used Ryu since SF1... I've had my main get crappier in EVERY version of SF4.
Maybe his nerfs from SF4 to Super were ok. But now he's about one step above Dan Hibiki.
But so what? I might not like the nerfs, but that doesn't spoil the game for me.
I play about 6 characters strong. My new main is Chun Li.
Even though you (and I) might not like some of the balance, it's still a freaking awesome game.
Find a way to win. I promise you'll have fun.

Amen. No offense to anyone but if you have any complaints about the way this rerelease has been handled (beyond being minorly miffed that the graphic filters aren't quite as good as what's offered by some emulators), you're PROBABLY NOT the target audience of this release. Are you a veteran Third Strike player who wants a rebalance? Cool, but you're in the minority because the Third Strike fanbase is one of the most rabidly traditionalist ever. Are you someone who's never played Third Strike but was thinking of getting into it? Cool, buckle down and get to work because you have over a decade of metagame to catch up on.
@ Aluppoj
I play Balrog and at the moment Ryu is my worst matchup. I used to be pretty good in that matchup until the AE release. Everyone says Ryu is nerfed, personally I feel like Ryu is buffed, atleast in the Balrog matchup. His Hadouken recovery is improved. I didn't see it mentioned at the changes section here at Eventhubs, but it can't be just my imagination.
Turn Punch from screen distance to punish Hadouken: Blocked.
Dash forward into ultra from almost full screen to punish Hadouken: Blocked.
These were things that worked in Super, not in AE. That must be a change in the hadouken recovery.
The day after the AE release I played offline with a friend who mains Ryu. He's pretty good, but our fights were always very close in Super. That day the fights weren't even close and I got bodied hard with 5-0.
I want to stick with Balrog, but AE Ryu is a big problem now. I think about learning some new character to counterpick Ryu.
And I'm not sure about this because I don't play with Ryu much. But was it in Super possible to juggle with jumping mp after Shoryuken fadc? It works in AE.
ITS A RAP...my girlfriend's gonna dump my ass.
Its gonna be very VERY hard to leave the house now...SSF4AE, MK9, MVC3, now 3rd!?! to mention the new Tekken Tag coming out in the near future!?!
DAMN!!
I better start spending more time with her now and build up those brownie points...I only got till end of this summer till hyperbolic chamber hibernation mode! HA!
Yes, let's talk about AE in the comments for 3S news! Classy!
Saying AE Ryu is better than Super is like saying Sean is better in 3S than in 2I. Hadoken recovery is NOT changed, try harder nex time.
@Samurai
Sorry bro, Ryu got B!tch slapped hard. I also play Balrog. He's my 3rd, and I relish beating on shotos with him.
Balrog > Ryu all day. And I'm sad to say that lol.
Maybe your friend leveled up, or maybe you were having an off day.
But regardless, this isn't about Ryu. It's about "nerfs/buffs", we are all going to find something we don't like. But overall the game is incredible.
There is WAY more Good stuff than bad.
