Posted back before E3 took place, SNK-Capcom put up a nice little interview with Seth Killian. Topics range from when Marvel vs. Capcom 3 started development to potentially revisiting the Capcom vs. SNK series. SNK-Capcom: Several fans had copies of MvC3 several weeks before the official release and began posting images, vids and info on their Facebook accounts. What was the reaction internally to this, and what measures will be taken in the future to prevent this from happening?
Seth Killian: I can’t discuss details, but there were some major internal consequences. And while nothing is ever a guarantee, additional measures have been taken to avoid leaks in the future. I understand the enthusiasm and love that people are hungry for the game, and as a fan I share that same feeling, but sometimes it crosses a line with serious consequences for real people. Hype and excitement is great, but that “consequences” part of it doesn’t get a lot of attention (for legal reasons), and it sucks.
I'd also like to add that in order to leave myself SOME in-game surprises, I had to stay off the internet for like a week before my copy arrived :P too many things being shown off and spoiled by people who got early copies. If I sound bitter it's cause I was hella salty at the time of release.
Capcom's reaction to the leaks probably explains why they've been so tight-lipped about any future DLC for the game. I hope Seth didn't catch too much heat himself for those leaked copies.
Also, it's reassuring to know that Capcom is open for anything as far as fighting games go, gives me hope that we'll see another Capcom Vs SNK game eventually, and perhaps even another Darkstalkers. It probably won't be for a while, but it's good that they're keeping an open mind about everything.
He mentioned Power Stone and my hopes went up. Petition for Power Stone on Wii U!!!!!! Why? Because the Wii U feels like a successor to the Dreamcast, possible terrible release timing at all!
@1 really leaks killed your hype for the game? the fact that the game is unfinished, missing a bunch of promised stuff has nothing to do with it?
I think seth is being a douche whining about it, of course i want to know info asap and if people get the game early are you really surprised videos get posted?
tell seth to shut his fagat of mouth up. the fans bin asking for sfa, ds, rs, cvs2 online. CVS2. tell him to stfu bout CVS2. example. ssf2hd=sf4. mvc2 online=mvc3. ssf4ae=sf3rd online. im glad they wasting the sf4 engine on sfxt. i want a brand new lookin SFvsSNK game. not no turtle game like sf3&sf2.5+3-alpha. sf3 ruined the story of sf series. dont make sf5. unless its 2d sprites, takes place after sf2. an please no cameo's from sf3. i want to see wut really happen to bison
I created and account just to refer to this,
Seth said
"additional measures have been taken to avoid leaks in the future."
Then what was the Bob Sagat thing about a few weeks about regarding SFxT?
More PR BS!
#7 is part of the reason Capcom isn't listening to it's fans as much anymore.
Dear Commenter #7,
Do your parents know you're up this late commenting on the internet?
leaks are the reason i was hyped for this game because waiting for events every few months for new characters was ridiculous. the only hype this game actually really had was the 10 year wait. the game is good but good isnt enough for an mvc game.
Wow... the comments are at an all-time low tonight, I see. Some of you are typing like you're smashing the keyboard on your face...
Well, #7 is anyway.
@ Snake - Agreed, I hope he wasn't in the hot seat for the leaks. To be honest, while they may be able to control it to an extent, I don't think any company will ever be able to completely stop leaks like that.
Know what I wanna' see return? RIVAL SCHOOLS. That series stopped way too soon.
@Snake dont know why its trolling when I have an opinion different from yours. I know that leaks dont hurt the release at all and people have to try hard to find them, so if you do see a list its most likely because you were looking for one.
On the DLC issue MvC3 isnt even a complete game, your boy seth said there was going to be a bunch of stuff in there and yet its not but they are still going to sell DLC and lets not even talk about the rumor of Super MvC3 (or what ever it will be called) I could care less if he is in trouble for these leaks, if things were reversed and he wasnt working for capcom what do you think he would be doing? Probably looking at the same damn leaked lists as everyone else
@#5 If this guy Ryoto makes CvS3, he's gonna be leaving out alot of Important characters, like in MvC3.
Leaks don't kill hype.
Not talking about the game kills hype.
You idiots need to understand that news on a game is still positive in the eyes of the developers.
They aren't loosing money from early release from the game; in fact it's helping them because why?
IT BRINGS MORE ATTENTION.
Majority of you would make horrible businessmen.
Sad, another interview that no one asks about future DLC for MVC3.
@3... I'm beginning to think the tip lipped treatment towards DLC has nothing to do with past leaks, instead it is because there is no DLC. I mean how do you go 4-5 months without saying a word about even the possibility of DLC. Just hanging your paying customer's out to dry so they can waste enough time before finally announcing a new game or making you waste more money on Street Fighter X Tekken aka Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition w/ some Tekken Characters on the same engine.
does anyone have any idea what #7 is actually on about? I couldn't make out a single thing that rant was meant to be about.
As for me, I'm not fussed about leaks, I just enjoy the game once it arrives and I like finding out information as and when it appears online but it doesn't bother me when I find stuff out about it.
@24..how childish of you to call other people idiots when you have no personal experience or knowledge concerning the subject. If it helps them why were there "internal consequences"? Seeing that info is straight from the horses mouth (so to speak) and YOUR little comment is a theory by some kid.
Bottom line: how can you insult people without have ANY first hand knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes? That sounds more "idiotic" than anything written on here (other than #7''s drivel..)
I'm just glad they're making (or at least suppose to) a "Super" MvC3. Paying $5 for every new character's much worse, if they made a transition like how big SFIV was to SSFIV or even BIGGER, I'd be happy. Super MvC3 announced at Comic Con calling it now lol.
@24 - Believe me, there's consequences on even a small-scale project by a lesser-known company when things get leaked, so I can't imagine how much -ish hits the fan when something like MvC3 or the like gets leaks.
It's great news and developers/publishers love it... IF THEY PLANNED IT. Leaks are never good, there's a whole gang of people outside of the dev teams and even the publishers that have things planned around release dates and such that lose out on leaks.
Is it arguable that Capcom could do a better job hyping certain things or at least do it a different way (ie., the Tekken 6 "reveal" trailers)? Sure, that's almost always true. But to think that - from a business perspective - a game getting leaked early is a good thing is kinda' silly.
@Lyn
I agree completely! I seriously don't get this? You sell copies of a game, you still get the money, nothing is pirated, and you complain because people are putting vids up on the net to get everybody else hyped and frothing at the mouth to get a copy? Horrible business men, all of you! CAPCOM please for once just shut up about the whole thing this just makes you look like Square Enix. Guys who wouldn't know a good business decision if it bit them in the ass.
Glad to hear it. Leaks damn near killed my hype for this game.
