The designer of the Smash Bros. series, Masahiro Sakurai, was asked by IGN if there was a chance we would see a Capcom character in the next Smash game, coming out on the 3DS and Wii U. He had this to say.
"I can't say that it's entirely out of the realm of possibility that some Capcom character could appear in the next Smash Bros. The big problem, though, comes from the idea of trying to get characters from a completely different universe to fit with the style that has been dictated by Nintendo's characters in a fighting game.
"In fact, I actually think it's a miracle that we got Smash Bros. and all the Nintendo characters to work together in the first place. Especially when you bring Pokemon into the mix and a lot of the complications that are caused by that being an almost completely different entity on its own, it's really something. So this is something that obviously will come up more as we get started on the new Smash Bros. development, but keeping those things in mind I think is important."

Forget SF characters in Smash Bros. Mega Man has a much more important role in Nintendo history considering all of the games he had on the NES and the beginning of the X series on SNES. Mega Man is the obvious choice here
...of course, he was an obvious choice for Marvel VS Capcom 3 too and we all know how that turned out
It's prob Chun.
She has the A mash like Capt Falcon, Kirby, Fox, Falco, etc.
She has the fireball which goes different lengths (a Neutral B chargable fireball)
Side B would be a Spinning Bird Kick
Up B would be those up kicks that go in like a 45 degree angle.
Down B would be a leap forward which can a button can be tapped to initial a kick like her HCB kick special (B Button) or her df.HK (A Button).
She also has those air d.mk kicks.
if they would keep it ot the world warriors if street fighter i think most likely a megaman cameo would be the best fit in any case
Lol went and voted 55.1% say mega man then viewtiful joe at 12.17% and phoenix wright with 8.23%
up b = shoryuken
left/right b= tatsamaki
b neutral= hadoken
down b = counter
KEN FTW MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Sega is not bought by Nintendo, it is a seperate entity that gave the right for Nintendo to have Sonic in the game.
I wouldn't mind MegaMan being in the game, or if you really want to come from left field, Vanessa from PN03. But it would most likely be MegaMan.

Like Keits said in a similar post of his last thursday, Sakurai's quotes are a bit hogwash. They're acting like its so hard to "fit" a guest character within the Smash roster. They already accomplished this with friggin Snake, a stealth soldier from an M-rated series who had to be stripped of all bullet-based guns in favor of only explosive weapons. Then came Sonic, who had half his attacks involving rolling up in a ball because he doesn't have many other powers.
If any company mascot can seamlessly fit into Smash, its Capcom (Rare is in Microsoft's dungeon atm). They are mostly equally cartoonish and equally combat-oriented as Nintendo's characters. In fact, mario/luigi's special moves in Smash 64 were based off ryu/ken's special moves.
Neutral B = Fireball/hadoken
Up B = rising uppercut/shoryuken
Down B = moving spinny thing/tatsu
I've read a few articles/interviews with Sakurai and I feel like he's a little unconfident and lost on the franchise. He, who makes kirby games originally, simply wanted to make a fun party fighter for the N64. But since it starred all Nintendo characters and was fun, it got much attention and sales and soon Sakurai was forced to make Melee in less than a year's development. Once again, his game was extremely popular, even spawning an unexpected tourney scene. Brawl comes out next generation, caters to "casuals" by slowing down the gameplay, sales are huge, and now Nintendo comes to Sakurai to start brainstorming another Smash game...for both new platforms. The weight is on his shoulders.
I bet all he wanted to do is make Kirby games. I feel like this interview speaks "stop asking me stuff, stop expecting so much from me, I'll be back in 3 years with the new game"
capcom didnt want mega man for mvc3, why would he be in brawl? capcom doesnt seem to even know what to do with mega man anymore. they only focus on sf and re and let mega man fall way behind mario and other great video game icons.
# No, that's a great idea; a Smash bros MAKES you remember characters, like Kid Icarus, Marth, Ness, Pit... There's absolutely no risk putting in some Power Stone characters in here; the risk is: reviving the franchise :)!!
I Bet on Ono's Blanka, taking all the screen for him.
I don't care anymore about who gets into a Smash game. I'm more interested in how the next game will play. Sorry Brawl fans, but I don't want to see another Smash going even further in the Brawl's slow, floaty, combo-less direction.
Smash could use a lot more jump-cancellable moves and more special moves that increase mobility that can be attacked out of.
After Brawl, I'm sort of indifferent towards this. If Mega Man ever does become a playable character, he'd be my main, but I still wouldn't take the game seriously if it's not very technical.
@kingofthesharks
There seems to be a lot of supporting evidence to this claim. If anything, I'd rather Sakurai not direct the next Smash since he only aims to cater to casual players, despite the hardcore players being the root of its success.
Altough Ryu isn't in the game, his attacks already are as part of mario and luigi's moves. Since most of nintendo characters are in deformed form, i think Megaman will do. The problem is, which megaman they will choose? classic megaman is good, but i prefer megaman.EXE because it's just really cool to see his stage (that digital world thing when you do jack in)
Why are most of you guys are saying the SF characters are the one?
Its clearly Megaman. Sonic was the most anticipated character for Brawl when Snake got announced and you know who was right behind him? MEGAMAN.
Besides Megaman was one of the Reasons why Nintendo still stands out today. And Megaman is the most known 3rd Party Character out of the Nintendo Franchise.
Guys, Mario and Luigi are already Ryu and Ken. Think about it.
B = hadouken
upB = shoryuken
downB = tatsumaki
Megaman will be in if anyone.
if they can put in snake from MGS, they can put in Megaman, who really should have been in SMB since the beginning.
i also doubt it will be any street fighter characters. frank west or strider would be cool
Megaman or Viewtiful Joe. Those are the only two that really fit imo.
why do all these kids want these streetfighter charaters or DMC charaters this isnt nintendo vs capcom its super smash bros which mean most likly they'll be choose charaters that have a strong connection with nintendo.... and just putting it out there mario and luigi had those moves waaaaaaaaaaaay before ruy and ken where thought up
#30 I totally agree with you on this one I feel sorry for the guy. At the same time he cranked out quite a few successful kirby games, but I do feel sorry for the guy because Nintendo has kept hassling him about making another Smash game even tho they KNOW he wants to make other games! I dunno Kid Icarus looks batsh*t crazy to me from what footage i have seen (Pit with a laser gun?) but it does remind me of how Pit was in smash with all the crazy random items. It also has a 3on3 multiplayer, seems like alot of smash influence to me. I dont really understand his reluctance to do another smash if its one of his most popular series. Honestly the game could play really bad and it would still be a day one purchase for me :)
Oh and Megaman is def. gonna be in the game i already imagined what type of character he would be, kind of a mix between kirby and samus
Bmove - Chargeable MBuster
SideB - Slide or something maybe that would work better as a dash attack
UpB - Rush Jet or coil
DownB - Copy move, works kinda like Kirby's swallow cept he has to kinda grab you
@Hado
How can snake and sonic make it and you don't have the imagination for Ryu?
I think this iteration is going to heavily borrow the great video game series of yester-year. SF, Mega man, Castlevania, Sonic again, maybe even a Captain N appearance in some form for American fan service?
That, and someone better get the petition out for a truly competitive mode in this one.
Thanks for finally putting this up here, i just wanted to see what people would say. I think anyone can fit into this game personally, they put Snake for gods sake. Megaman would probaby fit more though, my bets on him.
Hmm, sure seems to be a lot of hatred here. Honestly, I think adding a Capcom character would be a nice tip of the hat from Nintendo to Capcom for its recent efforts on the Wii and 3DS.
Megaman is undeniably the most requested 3rd party newcomer (assumning Sonic and Snake are in) among Smash fans, but even Ryu would also be a very good choice, since Street Fighter 3DS was definitely a big help in launching the 3DS, but also being practically the father of all fighting games, as well as having experience transitioning through crossovers. Either of those two characters would be great.
Those insisting Capcom characters would not fit are certainly deluding themselves (Sakurai included). They made Snake of Metal Gear fit along side characters like Pikachu. Megaman or Ryu can't possibly be less compatible with Nintendo characters than a pair like that.
Ryu is a safe bet as usual, he can cross-over with just about anything. Adding him would be great!
Mega Man would be a better canidate prolly, with his more cartoonish feel, an easy to work with move-set to make, and would also be a refreshing change from a Street Fighter cross-over.
Viewtiful Joe may fit even better than Mega Man with an even more colorful and cartoony feel to him, though the move-set may be tricky to work with to make him even with the others.
my guess is either ryu or megaman, though most likely megaman since he fits into the game better than ryu.
(Do it! Smash Bros WiiU is already top 10 on Gamefaqs popularity, Capcom! That means putting a char(or six) in = instant $$! Hakan! Dan! R. Mika! Alex!)
all they did from melee to brawl was take out all the glitches that weren't meant to be in the game anyway so the game looks cleaner and more fluent.instead of chars jerking and studdering all over the place.the speed between the games when played w/o those glitches wasn't all that diff.and theres high lvl play in brawl, there's just no real glitches in it that let chars jerk/studder around like melee.oh and lol at the competitive scene being what made smash a success.casuals will always be the deciding factor in the success of any game.they out number us 10 to 1.
@66 Finally someone agrees with me. Why do we even have a competitive scene for a game that wasn't built to be competitive in the first place? It relies on 4-Player Free-For-Alls and stages with hazards. You take that out, you take out the point of the game. I don't see other games similar to Smash Bros. getting a competitive scene like Power Stone. You want a competitive fighter? Stick to traditional stuff like MvC or SF.
And no, it wasn't the competitive scene that made this game popular anyone with a brain knows it was because of it's overabundance of Nintendo characters and references.
Plus, the competitive scene for Smash Bros. consists of the most self-righteous, elitist, insulting, snobby twits I have ever seen ANY video game fanbase obtain. Honestly, screw them.
Nope, there wasn't glitches that made Melee competitive, everything was physics consequences (natural outcomes) and Sakurai noticed and knew about it, but changing it would mean to change the entire physics, because they released like 3 revisions of Melee that fixed glitches and stuff.
@LordTerminal
Those would be the Brawlers, actually.
if anything it will most likely be ryu =/
