Christian Svensson and Seth Killian dished more Street Fighter X Tekken info at E3 2011 on Wednesday, sharing gameplay information and general stuff fans would be interested in. Here's a run down.
• You can use your Launcher (Hard Punch + Hard Kick) like an Alpha Counter, but it's not a guaranteed hit — you have to pick your spots with it.
• Seth mentioned EX moves are particularly strong, with good invincibility and such.
• It was reiterated that it's going to be a really big roster, they're going to try and make it as big as possible.
• There are still a lot of graphic changes in store for the oil and water effects.
• Seth said to expect someone you're not expecting as a character that will be announced soon. This sounded like it would be after E3, although no timeline was nailed down. [Editor's note: Maybe a Comic-Con announcement in July?]
• Cole will be in both the PlayStation 3 and Vita versions of the game.
• On the matter of having a Xbox 360 exclusive character, Seth and Christian said sorry, but nothing on that front right now.
• Every character in the game has a charge up move. Guile's is his Sonic Boom, and if you hold the button for a bit, it becomes an EX attack, and if you hold it for about 3.5 seconds, it'll become a super. This is extremely easy to counter if you're a competent player, as you can be hit out of your super at any time during it's 3.5 second startup.
• Guile's Sonic Hurricane super is just a Sonic Boom motion + all 3 punches.
• Game is faster since the Captivate version was made available.
• Killian added that the game of course has a long way to go and much will be changed in the next playable version.
• The SFxT stick from Mad Catz is more like a Standard Edition stick, with the sloped front panel. It's larger than the SE, but somewhat similar in design. The parts are Sanwa though, like you expect from the Tournament Edition models.
#1 Because we are not a collective mind, that is impossible to achieve. We all like different stuff.
I am just hoping it is a character not in the SSF4 series, that would be interesting.
Tekken Wise, I am not too concerned, because Julia is already in the game.
Hmm an unexpected character? I bet it's going to be an street fighter ex character since capcom had put tekken characters in a 2D world why not sf ex characters from 3D to 2D or maybe rival schools characters? Idk those two games are my best bet.
Karin Kanzuki belongs in this game more than any other street fighter. Especially now that Lili and Asuka are all but confirmed, no SF character matches those playstyles better than Karin. If Karin finally doesn't get spotlight after 10+ I'll lose faith in her every returning, don't mess this up Capcom.
@karin requesters
I'm sure karin's going to be in the game and people expect her so this character their talking about can't be her. This character has to be an oddball choice and is probably from tekken. Probably jun because no one would expect her with asuka being in the same game. If not I don't know who it is but it doesn't seem to be karin their talking about. I do hope they reveal karin soon though I want to see what she looks like.
"Don't worry about charge moves you can just avoid them."
Who gives a **** about charging up to super?
This means you can stagger fireballs like a mofo. Think you're gonna predict my fireball spam? Think again, I held the button for a little bit, now I'm gonna blow your jump up, and probably juggle you afterward.
And I bet the character is NOT surprising. Gonna be like, Dan or some ****.
Top 5 characters that came to mind when he said someone we wont expect...
1. Gill
2. Mokujin (or maybe this one's a bit expected?)
3. Dr B or maybe even Gon?
4. Q?
5. Goutetsu?
or if they're gonna pull an inFamous again, a character from another game I say... GENE?!?!?!?!? O_O
Let's see...
1. If by expected they mean someone from another Capcom franchise then I'm putting my money on Frank West or Chuck.
2. OR, remember when Ono said when he mentioned to the battle director the idea of having Poison and Hugo in the game and liked it, maybe Seth's referring to Poison?
"It was reiterated that it's going to be a really big roster, they're going to try and make it as big as possible."
Didn't we hear the same thing for MvC3? Weren't most people very disappointed?
@28
They were talking about the inevitable Super MVC3, now with 10 "new" characters. -__-
SeoulZombie when aren't Capcom fans dissapointed? We get so many awesome fighters that others would kill for and yet we keep nagging and crying like 10 year olds. That's probably why Capcom stopped paying too much attention to their fans and just do their own thing hoping they will please a large majority. Who could have imagined 4 years ago that now we would have had 3 versions of SF IV, MVC3, an HD version of SSF 11 Turbo, a new online version of SF III 3RD Strike, iPhone and 3DS versions of SF IV as well as TvC on the Wii and now SF X T for PS3, XB360 AND PS Vita? Yet guess what, people will complain again...who gives a damn if SF X T will have 30 or 40 characters? Neither number is small! And we will most certainly have future DLC and updates
Just to give people hints about the unexpected characters, the most unexpected characters would probably be from Street Fighter 1. Characters like Geki (the blue Ninja),Joe,Lee, and even Mike are very unexpected and could be replacements for some of the Street Fighter 2 characters. Most Street Fighter 3 characters are not as unexpected as the Street Fighter 1 characters, even Street Fighter Alpha characters are more expected than Street Fighter 1 characters. I think some of the Street Figther 3 characters, especially the one's who almost made the cut for Street Fighter 4 like Elena for instance, will be in the game for sure this time around. Sean is also possible, bur not someone who's unexpected. Geki for instance could be a rival to Raven and a replacement for Vega.More than like it's for sure someone from one of the street fighters. Unless they sneak Phoenix Wright in there as a playable character lol.
I'm banking on them adding in someone from SF1, since that would literally be unexpected. Everyone is already making requests for lots of different Alpha and SF3 characters, and Poison wouldn't be THAT unexpected when she keeps getting brought up every once in a while. And then I'm sure everyone is assuming any Tekken character is fair game, so nothing would be that unexpected from that side.
So if they truly intend to surprise everyone, they'll throw a curveball and give an old SF1 character the Eagle treatment (Meaning, taking an SF1 character and tossing him into a crossover title). I for one would gladly welcome it.
Also, since Guile's Sonic Hurricane input was brought up, I'm curious; anyone know if non-charge supers use double-quarter-circles or single (and 360s or 720s, and so on)?
@28
No, SOME people were disappointed because they had stupidly high expectations, like 60 characters or something dumb like that. MvC3 has a good roster size, no one should have expected the game to top MvC2's roster number when that roster was a collection of recycled sprites with what, barely 10-12 actually new characters with sprites made specifically for the game?
Just because they say "big roster" doesn't mean everyone should instantly expect 50+ or something like that right off the bat. Have realistic expectations, everyone. Seriously, since when did between 30-40 characters not count as a "big" roster?
Retsu. Noob Saibot. Jacky Bryant. Necrid. Klonoa. Raul Julia. It's one of those, for sure. You're welcome.
So dumb that infamous character is in the sony verisons. Kinda ruined it a bit for me. I'm getting the xbox one but it's supposed to be Street Fighter X Tekken. Not Street Fighter X Tekken and friends.
so seth says they want to go as big as possible but ono says over 40 is "hard" to learn? Capcom make up ur minds. 50 characters should be there target number.
@38
because capcom isnt recycleing a bunch of models for sfxtekken? The important characters on the sf side are done already and alot of the tekken characters are tweaked sf models, ie bob/rufus murdock/hakan etc.
I'm not sure it was so much that people didn't like Cole so much as they didn't like the idea of Cole... i mean.. it is Street Fighter x Tekken.... he's certainly not either of those. Then again Namco has done worse..... Star Wars characters in Soul Calibur...
@47 LOL "Murdock"
@37 Actually you made a pretty stupid comment. Take a look at how you worded your sentence.
Feel free to explain what you really meant since it's apparently not ambiguous.
Skullomania. or then a character from SF1, like Eagle (who's a badass btw).
@61
I know. But that would be a totally unexpected character, wouldn't it? And maybe they've bought the rights. Who knows.
SnakeX: "It's easier for Capcom to hit us with an SF1 character than reach out and deal with the messy business of licensing and rights."
The creator of the EX characters used to work at Capcom, where he was also the creator of SFII characters. He is, of course, highly respected (which was why his studio was allowed to make SF EX in the first place) and reportedly still friendly with the current Capcom brass The series in which he also wanted to use the characters, Fighting Layer, is discontinued. It would be a very simple matter to get the characters.
While it is still unlikely, this is more due to lack of interest than difficulty.
@70
You havent even played it yet and saying the addition of one character outside of SF or Tekken ruins the game.
Yes that makes perfect sense to me.
How dare you ruin the game already capcom! At least for "J" who's opinion counts for EVERYTHING!
Yes, adding completely random characters that have absolutely nothing to do with Tekken or Street Fighter instead of focusing on the dream match-ups that this game is supposed to be about kinda ruins the game for me. Am I not allowed to have an opinion? Kindly STFU.
ps3 mk players get kratos, whereas sfxtekken players get cole...yep i think mk takes it in the guest character department.
lol its funny they added cole, considering he doesn't fit into the series. i wudn't be surprised if the "unexpected character" turns out to be dat dude from uncharted XD
anyway, the character i'd been anticipating since the game was announced (hwoarang) has been revealed so its all good for me anyway.
@88, doubt haggar will make the cut since his recent ressurection in mvc3. i think they shud put in rolento. he's one final fight character who hasn't been in a game for a while.

Sick of recycled characters from SFIV, bring on some real new comers capcom.
--------------------------------------------------------------
agreed..
and what's with all this version exclusive crap? MK9 did the same thing with this Kratos bs and now Capcom? Not trying to start a fanboy war or anything, but seriously why is ps3 getting so many exclusives? why not do one for both? i mean i guess it doesnt matter since the exclusives wont get used competitively but still.. its kind of unfair
I'm surprised none of you are complaining about character exclusives yet. I think it poses a problem. Since the roster on both systems will be different wouldn't that mean that the tweaks on both versions will be different as well? (In the long run both games will turn out to be rather different) At tournaments which version would be used? If I want to play Cole and you wanted to an Xbox exclusive char, how would tournament holders decide which version? Not to mention, exclusive characters will never be able to battle together. Capcom is also breaking the tradition with this one.
GAAAAAAARUUUUUUUUUUDAAAAAAAAAAAA is a better character than anyone has mentioned..completely unique..licensing should be sorted and put him in cos he could have been a fantastic addition to the sf4 series..also skullomania is cool too..make it happen CAPCOM!!
just put raven, heihachi, jin and bryan in it and it's all good
also capcom should make a thread on unity to vote for your favorite weaboo character:
Pick EITHER tranny poison, or little schoolgirl Karin to be in our next game and then STFU about it forever!
i can see asuka in it though she got skills
It's probably a Darkstalker character, like Morrigan or Demitri.
Wow they might even bring back
Ingrid from Capcom Fighting jam.
Sakura and Asuka is a sweet combination..
and resurrect Dan. Cmon give the guy a chance.
Well thats my troll comment..
They should reconsider changing that life bar,,
its unappealing. Just keep it nice and simple.
to many effects are being applied,
The games a bit dark needs more light blending.
I believe the unexpected character is going to be Jun Kazama i mean come on she is one people have been asking for for ages so i expect that to be the huge announcement
The Excellent Adventures of Gootecks & Mike Ross Season 3 Ep. 5: OCTOPUS ON FIRE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuyuUe...
There is no reason to complain about Cole. I doubt he'll detract from the roster due to both systems NOT getting him!
You think the 360 version is going to miss a series mainstay because Cole took up a spot on the PS3 version? Get real.
At the end of the day he's just a bonus. If the game was going to have 50+ characters for example, the PS3 will just have 51.
It's not like there going to say, "we wanted to do *blank* for both systems, but Cole took that spot!" they still have to have a FULL ROSTER for 360, so we aren't losing anyone because of him!
Again, at the end of the day he's just a fun bonus!
I commend PS for going the extra step to grab a "FUN" exclusive!
It's not like Kratos ruined MK9! He's just a FUN ADDITION!
Chill out you mainiacs!
Cole needs a partner, so I think they'll put in Nathan Drake on the PS3 & Vita editions. Seth Killian's accidental mention of Uncharted instead of Infamous might have been a tell or sorts. Or he genuinely just f*cked up. ^_^
Personally, I wish it was a party crasher from the SNK universe like Terry Bogard, Kyo Kusanagi, or even Geese Howard. Remembering the live stream conversation with Ono, he had said that Capcom hasn't been in contact with SNK lately, and if that's true, there's no chance we'll see that happen in this game.
If it isn't any of the above, then it's gotta be Dan's reanimated corpse. Is there nothing Mishima Heavy Industries can't do?!
Saw some people arguing over Cole. He's just a ps3 marketing addition since ps3 took a hit recently. At the end of the day it's called sf x tekken so non sf and tekken universe characters are stupid. Not to mention how is that gonna work in tournaments?
We should all request Ronald McDonald...
Capcom just did what Namco have been doing for a while with Soul Calibur series, they took advantage of this versus games to borrow a page from Namco's book. It is the perfect time to do so, only b!tches have the nerve to complain, even when getting a bonus.
Im just happy that Ono decided to not include a f*cking clone, joke of a character like Dan and added a cool character like Cole. Adding something new, unexpected and different to the game. Yet people cried about Dan and get angry about Cole.
@ 104
Lol, calling Karin a weaboo character but you want Jin Kazama (the most generic, serious business weaboo archetype character ever) and Raven (a black ninja whose a weaboo pandering to weaboos). What am I even reading? hahaha
Is it too to much to ask for Ingrid? ;D
From Tekken all I wish is Lili. I'm satisfied.
#123
Lili is in the game she was the most obvious one next to asuka that the trailer showed. I love for ingrid to make the game to but people don't like her so maybe as DLC so that way no one has to touch her if they don't want to. I want kombot as well.
And BIG LOL at ppl asking for SNK characters or other Capcom characters like Batsu and MegaMan?!?
Don't you guys get it? The characters are all from the SF universe or the Tekken universe!
Cole is from a Sony Exclusive Title! That's why they could get him in.
Just because he seems random to you guys doesn't mean that just Fu<kin anybody can show up!
How about Samus, Mario, Master Chief, Wario, SpiderMan and Godzilla!
WTF is wrong with you guys?!?
Hey, guys, here's an idea!
SHUT UP AND STOP ARGUING! BE GLAD THE GAME IS FINALLY HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All funny buissness aside, I was one of the first people to ask for a SF1 character outside of Ryu, Ken, Adon, and Sagat. If the other three minus Ryu get's in, I'm good. But if I see Ryu in another god damn Street Fighter, I'MA BLOW UP NINTENDO! Or something. Maybe Epic? Atari? Retro? Come on people, I need a list of companies here.
SnakeX, the reason expections keep getting bigger is because games keep getting bigger. It's a natural progression. If you think the most characters a fighting game will have is 40 and people's expectations won't go from there, you're mistaken.
@Beta8: I want different characters in the game. If all you want is "familiar," run back to SF4.
Can we get the motherf--king God Hand in this game? Have his partner be Elvis who also works surprisingly well with Bob.
Ryu constantly battles within himself for control of the dark hado.
Jin constantly battles within himself to control the demon.
Cole is in a constant battle within himself to use his powers for good or evil. Oh and he also fights in the street all the time.
So how exactly does he not fit in with this at all? I think he's a "shoe fits wear it" for sure.
Once again an example of todays gamers and their elitist "omg how dare you sully the purity of my game" attitude.
You dont like Cole, dont play as him or buy it for Xbox. Problem solved.
@141 Cole isnt a capcom or Namco character either. He's suckerpunch studios which is independent of both of those companies.
@129
...What? I think there's a case of reading comprehension problems here; I don't think the most we'll ever have is 40. That number has obviously already been topped before. The point I was making, which you apparently missed, is that people need to have REALISTIC expectations, or they'll be disappointed every single time.
The games do get bigger, but so does the cost of making them. So there will always be limitations because companies have a specific amount of time and resources to devote to any one game. It's not as simple as you make it seem; natural progression is one thing, having blind expectations is an entirely different matter.
Sorry to get off topic but just one thing I could add about who could the characters from the 360 side be? (unless if that is the surprise character...)
Ok, so Cole from InFamous is on the PS3 and PSV versions of sf x t...
If you have seen the short gameplay videos of Cole in sf x t he has that super ability to make that thunder tornado (NOTE: I have played and beat Infamous 1 and that move wasn't in there...I have Infamous 2 he got that electrical tornado move). So obviously Capcom, Sony, and Sucker Punch (they own InFamous) most likely made a deal a long while back before InFamous 2 released (same day as AE)...which was the same week as E3...
Now who do ya think could be that character from the 360 side...try to think of what other company it could be that is officially stuck with microsoft, and what main game series they would have used from that company...i have absolutely no clue what company that could be...but also the game reference is probably a very recent one or coming soon game...
Remember...even though Seth and Christian did say they aren't at that stage yet for an exclusive 360 character...that maybe the surprise...but predictions on all this would be fun...It's just something i thought of just now...
and also sorry for the Long "Novel" comment length
@151
Everyone is anticipating along with myself for Karin to be included due to her being Lili counterpart making 100% sense.
Idc for outside characters since all that really is; is marketing technique for game companies.
Include Cole from Infamous; Infamous2 trailer is released!
Plus, Karin is a crowd-favorite who hasn't been in SF3 nor SF4.
I just hope its not Mega Man X. Cuz I want him in MvC3 not this as a guest character. Though any other Mega Man would be welcome. Keep X for UMvC3: AE for me Capcom.
maybe a character people actually like?
