It was previously stated that Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition will be the last entry in the SF4 series, wanting to dig a little deeper, I asked Capcom's Christian Svensson if they had any plans for additional DLC for the game.There isn't any additional content planned in any form. I won't say that's set in stone, but we're not looking at extending it further.
It's interesting that Svensson states that there's no additional content planned in any form, not just DLC. It sounds like Arcade Edition is truly the end for Street Fighter 4.
wow thats crazy. i thought they would have like new costumes in the future.
It's a bit sad that after Super was well balanced, they end the SFIV series with High Tier twin shenanigans.
No matter, I'll still wipe em out with Balrog(Boxer)
I don't believe this because they said ssf4 won't be on the PC, sentinel won't be in MVC3 and etc.. they going to be bringing in more DLC in the future.. watch, they going to say "something big coming to AE" then show us a picture of blanka blocking something.
After playing AE I can honestly say that Yang isn't as broken as everyone says or thinks. This reminds me of how everyone thought Dudley was going to be too good. Yang is still high tier but I would say on the bottom of the highest tier. On the other hand Yun is really good and I wouldn't argue with anyone that thinks he a little to good. Yang just doesn't have the same damage output as Yun and his dive kick is also slower.
@10
And the players don't want it right now, I only started asking for SFIV in 2006, and I was playing 3rd strike since 2000, 2014 I will start to worry about SFV....
@4 Where did you see this other Yun alt? I've only seen the chef one.
@LittleMDR:
Agreed. I played a small handful of Yangs (which isn't much, but I can guarantee is more than most of the complainers here could say), and it's not like they're a shortcut to victory. They're not bad characters at all, but I think reports of his abilities are a little exaggerated. They're 100% beatable.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
@14
They didn't disconfirm anything. They just said they have no future plans, which doesn't exactly rule out any plans. That goes for all the other things you mentioned. They claimed to have no present plans, but something came along and then they decided to plan and do it.
SFxT is the CvsSNK of this generation. By all means a great game, but never better than the main SF series.
SF33s > CvsSNK
SSF4AE > SFxT
And props to Catalyst for asking this question.... But.
1) The question that needs to be asked is, is there anything else ALREADY in the game that hasn't been unlocked? Like in the Arcade cab!
2) Sven and Ono are making conflicting statements. Sven says "no more", Ono tweets on a daily basis that "If I have time I will work more on AE" and just the other day he said he'd return to AE in the Winter! WTF is that?
I check Ono San's twitter daily, furthermore, I use google translator to read his Japanese tweets.
The Ultimate would be if when we DL AE we get two additional characters that were kept a MASSIVE secret! Then they would time release in the arcades and consoles simultaneously!
It's a big dream, but that would be freaking EPIC! I'll be turning the date forward 12months the day I DL AE lol!
@17 werewolfgold. I've seen it used in a lot of the high level japanese play streams, I tried to google but I can't find a still image, but I am sure if you ask around people will tell you, this is not a troll post, or anything, that is seriously his second alt, unless I am retarded and it was Gen with Yun's move set....
To me, it just sounds like a gray statement saying "We're not planning on adding any content, but that doesn't mean we won't in the future."
Given all the surprises they've pulled with their fighting games, I'll just wait. For the time being, there's enough anyway.
@25 I think it's farfetched to assume SFxT is not or will not be better than SFIV AE. It's not even released and the press release of gameplay is so early it's hard to really judge how good it will be until it's done.
one of the big complaints with SFIV was how slow it is, compared to SF2 or SF3. Thats why the Twins and Oni and E.Ryu were created. Also fireball type characters recieved serious nerfs. They wanted the game to be more up close and in your face and not a fireball tennis match.
SFxT seems to be keeping up with that same ideology based on the system we seen so far. This is why i said SFxT will be the best thing in a long time.
I don't listen to anyone from Capcom anymore. When the time to release more stuff, I'll hear and listen to them then. Until that happens, I'm treating EVERYTHING like I'm in a court case...everything's hearsay until hard evidence is presented in front of me.
I sure hope more costumes come along down the line, regardless of what they say!
@31
SfxT will be a great game. But let's get real here for a min.
1) It's a Tag Team fighter. It's always going to have a slight "party" element to it.
2) Crazy wall bounce, tag team combo craziness, ala mvsc3 (toned down) make the game more flash than flesh. I.E less based on a strategic gameplay.
3) SF4 has been out since 2008 and has yet to be replaced as the King of the heap. As an old school fighting fan I can't imagine a VS series game would Main Event anything over SF!
Now don't get me wrong. SfxT is a Day One purchase for me. But it's NOT going to top AE. I'd bet my life on that.
@8 - if u look back at all the other sf's they've always created a new system from scratch with each new series.st had supers,alphas added alpha counter/guard meter,3 series added parries/ex moves/selectable supers,sf4 added the focus system... sfv will have something new as well.parry,focus etc will never be seen again in a new sf.which is fine.let the old,flawed engines die as new more refined engines take their place. sfv is still ways off tho.
@27. I believe you. I'll look into it, but I'm sure if I just wait a couple days, images will be released of all of the costumes.
Svensson is a solid source, unlike Ono. He tells it like it is. As much as I want Elena in SF AE - and believe me, as you might guess, I want her in there A LOT - unless there are hidden meanings to his words (which would be unusual for Svensson) this is it for SF AE. No new content in any form? I wouldn't mind if you were pulling an Ono on us, just this once, Sven...but since you're likely not, I'm going to go cry now. TT
@ 37 : Yeah, it is true, it was the alt Daigo used during his only tournament with Yun ;)
that "alt" you guys are talking about is just the color number 10 for both yun and yangs alt 1. yun has the tank top with no hat (sorta looks like wang tang from power stone) and yang is shirtless.
yeh well they also said they werent PLANNING on releasing AE for home consoles.
Capcom loves saying they arent PLANNING on doing something and then doing it.
This is why we can't say I told you so until like a year from now when SFxT is their main focus and AE isn't shipping to stores anymore and it's been done and dusted for over a year.
People just don't believe anything unless it's what they want to hear.
SSFIV is over. Accept what it is.
@Spiinmaster.
Why so rude? You're alienating yourself from everyone. "Mass" means everyone, the old and the new. You seem to think SFIV killed your little (and I mean that seriously) scene. Well, let me tell you, the scene is plenty small despite the new blood. You think EVO's $20,000 pay out is big? The PAPA (Professional and Amateur Pinball Association) pays $35,000 at their EVO. And the PBA (Pro Bowling Association) pays out $250,000. So ... think the scenes getting worse? It's growing. Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone who goes to those tournaments knows all the intricacies but they don't care. Let it go guys. Be cool.
I'm not buying SFxTekken, CAPCOM. I don't relate to Tekken, and crossover games are an extremely nerdy 'meeting of universes' concept, satisfying the same type of people who like to analyse who would win between Obi-Wan and Gandalf.
If we want Tekken, we'll go buy Tekken. We're CAPCOM customers, so give us the products we expect. It's too late though, you're already committed, so just kill off the SF4 series with a whimper of that's what you want to do. The market _will_ be too saturated if you don't.
As with every other iteration, they're going to release ONE balance patch. It'll happen. I was saying "Yun can't be that bad" until I saw the videos of that 3v3 tournament.
Yun has just a little TOO much to work with. People are saying that he's weak defensively but that Dragon Kick seems pretty good to me. His Super allows a string of unpredictable high/lows that are almost INEVITABLY going to make contact. His juggles are out of this world, even without Super. His dive kicks are fast and unlike Rufus or anyone else but Yang and technically Dhalsim, he can determine their angle so again, the opponent has no way to know what to do. Yes you have to know what you're doing to use him effectively, but that can be said of any character. Yun just has too many tools and it's way too easy for him to create openings.
In that tourney, there were players who were playing almost flawlessly but even the slightest opening got exploited and punished by a massive combo. There's still the possibility that people are just not used to him yet and his weaknesses have yet to be properly identified, but after 6 months and at such a high level of play, with half the world maining him, it's unlikely.
There HAS to be a balance patch.
heres the way i see it ...
sf4 to ssf4AE ... they sell it to all the crapcom sf fanboys ... makes $$$
introduce sf3:3sOE for all the sf4 haters .. $$$ + remember the good ol' days
sfx tekken .. introduce a new hardcore community into the world of sf ... $$$ + get them hooked on the drug
introduce SSF4:3rd strike (made up name) .. JACKPOT !!
at least thats how i see it going ...
i mean lets face it .. this is CRAPCOM !! they will recycle those 3d character models to hell and back just like what they did with the alpha sprites ... (used in everything from the alpha series to cvs to the vs. series and capcom fighting jam )they wont spend money on new models .. or an sf5 ... not in 4-5 years minimum .. lol
and probably along the line they'd say .. oh yeah we also got the ok for a new darkstalkers ... but it only uses a 1 button combo system and the other button is for supers >__> to appeal to the casual gamer
Too bad. I would think they would still do DLC costumes considering how much of a cash cow it is. How many have spent just as much on them if not more than the game itself? And considering how much easier it is to release a new set of costumes than it is to release a new game, why wouldn't they keep doing it if many of us suckers keep buying it no matter how many times I keep saying "I can stop anytime I want to" :D
Aw, thats a shame. This is a rare situation where I'd be happy for them to change me for more stuff:
Shut up and take my money!
We need to ask the right questions and be very specific about it like:
Is there any DLC done/worked/finished already for AE and it will be later released?
@Scorpion and werewolfgold, I'm pretty sure the alternate 2s in question are actually just the color 10s for their alternate 1s. It's not a change in the model or even palette at all, it's just removing the jacket (like they did with both Sakura's Dudley's alternate 1 color 10s), and in Yun's case, his hat (which comes off in his taunt 01 anyway). Whether it's alternate 1 color 10 or alternate 2, here's a video of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3tL_h...
@ #52 Get real man, you haven't even played the game.
The Dragon Kick good? You can't cancel it, and it is a huge risk on a 900 health/stun character. Also, the the roundhouse one is damn slow. And if you are not a complete noob with awful reactions you won't have any problem punishing them.
Dive kick wise, Rufus has no height restriction. It's just a matter of time till people get a handle of those dive kicks, have you seen the hit box? It's horribile.
This game doesn't need any balance patch. It just requires players and theory fighters like you to actually play it and figure things out.
@61 or you can use it in situations like the Yun player uses here at about 15:15 in http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=... that demon looked like it was going to hit for sure, I know its ex but Yun seems to build meter quick. My point is it doesnt seem to be totally useless. Just an opinion anyway.
I can live with it if AE is indeed the last update to the (S)SF4-series. Fei and the twins OP? We'll see if that sticks a year from now, and if it does, Capcom might reconsider.
They could always already have something up their sleeves,who knows? All I know is that Tuesday I will be downloading and playing AE as I'm sure many of us will be doing. I'll worry about additions, tweaks, patches after I have played with AE for a while.
@ #64
Dude I'm sorry, but you gotta learn the game.
Yun neutral jumped there and didn't use any air normal, which allowed him to cancel the 2 frame recovery into a special. It's called trip guard, look it up.
Every invincibile (with a fair amount, or simply airborne) reversal would've beaten that desperation demon (Eita is no new to that). It has nothing to do with Yun.
People demand too much from games now days, games like street fighter 2 where known for its original roster.
People want to make SF4 an ultimate street fighter with every character in the f--king street fighter universe its quite pathetic.
Can we just move on?
I like how everyone already knows that Sfxtekken is gonna be worse than SF4 basing of...nothing really, a trailer. Smart stuff.
And people complained when SF4 first came out saying that it was super dumbed down compared to third strike, so that doesnt not necc. mean sfxtekken is gonna suck.
And Idc about no more DLC, the costumes are all kinda meh lol. It does suck that the last version wil be the most unbalanced of them all
@ gtfopanda
Please do not argue that Yun isn't OP by purposely hiding information. EX dash punch has advantage on everything and is completely safe.
I dont care if yun is that good, I worried if I will see 90% of the time yuns and feis, right now I only see bison, akuma, guile and rogs, hope people dont be a noob and choice another character instead of yun, the game have 6 months and you see the last tourny? all the matches were yun damn...
@Mit: Don't you have a job or something? Leave people alone and let us speculate, lol.
You have to remember even if something is in the works, they won't say so because things don't always pan out. Just gotta be patient.
What makes Yun OP is how easy he gets in, how easy he sets up offense, and his numerable options that force other characters to fight defensively.
"Not planing to but we could in the future"
Great, 10 more years of building up SF4. -_-'
Catalyst, Y u no ask about Marvel vs Capcom 3?
I think we're getting angry for no reason. I think on day 1 of release there'll be a flood of posts saying the game contains new characters and the balance is so fine it shatters a spirit-level. Then everyone gets so pumped that the no-buyers rush out, trip over their ankles and die.
@70
I don't think anyone (including me) is saying the SFxT will be "worse" than AE.
It'll be an awesome game, but it will not replace AE as the top competitive fighter because it's a VS series game!
CvsSNK2 was a freaking amazing game! But was it better than 3s? No.
This opinion is based off of history, and how it tends to repeat itself.
If you compare the late 90's to the current roster of fighting games you'd see that every game that was popular and competitive then, has a modern day counter part now.
So again, no one is saying SFxT won't be great! But it won't grab the Top Billing.
AE will be the Big Dog until SF5 drops. I just hope it's at least three years away so ppl can really dig into the SF4AE meat!
I have no problem with this. I'd like to see more costumes at least, but if not, what's there is pretty damn incredible. I just hope that if this really is it, they don't take another 6+ years to get SFV rolling.
@79 - I think you're underestimating the Tekken brand. As much of an SNK/KOF fan as I am, I could never deny that SNK doesn't have as large of a fanbase as Tekken has. If SFxT is done well and does manage to pull in both crowds successfully, it could at the very least *match* SF4.
This is still all speculation though.
Gameplay-wise, the little we've been shown has me extremely excited for it, and I'll likely be putting down every other fighting game I play to focus on it.
Personally I enjoyed CvS2 more than 3s, and know a few people who feel that way. Of course, anecdotal evidence is usually tainted and doesn't mean much so... ;p
@ #71
What are you talking about, what should I hide and why?
Yun is arguably the best character in the game, and that EX thing is close to retarded (still, already seen Japanese doing on reaction DPs to it). Who's denying it?
The guy I replied to failed to see that it wasn't to Yun having a good DP that he escaped the Demon, I just pointed that trip guard allowed that.
yeah i dont mind them moving on in terms of full fledged games, they put alot of content into sf4 and i cant really see room for anything else(besides stages and maybe 1 character to round out the selection screen). im happy to play the version that capcom feels they finally got everything they wanted inside.
I also believe SF4 needs time to settle in its current form and be dissected for a few years, this being the third update and it not being released at a universal time and all. However i do hope it gets a balance patch(if needed) somewhere in the future, thats really the only future dlc i would want.
2nd update* and in a "balance patch" id even be fine with them only revising the 4 new characters to the game.
f
