Gene from God Hand and Mega Man were in the final character pool for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but they didn't make the final cut, Capcom's Christian Svensson explained on a video chat at Comic-Con. He talked about all sorts of other details, and a transcript of the notable stuff is below.• Gene from God Hand was in very close consideration for UMvC3's roster. They had more characters in the final pool than they could put in the game, and Gene happened to be in that category. Mega Man was in the final pool of characters too.
• Capcom is not prepared to talk about DLC for UMvC3 right now. Sven said DLC is a part of their business, but that doesn't mean character DLC has to be.
• Svensson said Mega Man is absolutely not dead and continues to be a very important brand for them.
• The net code in UMvC3 is its own thing, it's a different beast than anything Capcom has used in their other games.
• UMvC3 costumes won't have alternative colors, like in SF4, the focus is instead on changing the geometry around.
• Cyclops wasn't a consideration for UMvC3, and Venom was never an option for characters they could choose from Marvel's roster. In the case of Cyclops, they already have a ton of X-Men in the game, so they didn't want to add yet another one.
• Having a balance of race or sex wasn't a discussion for UMvC3's roster.
• The following statement was very up in the air: If you didn't buy Jill/Shuma in vanilla MvC3, they won't be selectable in UMvC3 unless you purchase them. Again, this is not 100% and may change. Svensson was a bit out of the loop on this, so he said take this info with a huge grain of salt.
• Capcom will talk about the DLC for SF3 3s Online Edition after it's released, around August 23/24, 2011.
• About the Darkstalkers "announcement" it's just Ono trying to get the game made, he wasn't trolling or trying to mislead. Svensson called the sites that posted the Darkstalkers is being remade story "bad reporting," Ono just wants to stir up interest so he can get the game in development.
• More Fight Clubs will happen in the future.
• Gambit isn't being ignored for UMvC3, but he's not in the game.
• Poison's gender is supposed to be ambiguous.

Still don't get how Firebrand had higher priority then Gene or Megaman. Not saying he's an awful character or anything, it's just such a lame character to add. Like, if in Brawl they cut out Mario but added a playable Koopa or something.
that fact that he said character DLC might not be in the plans makes me think it isn't in the plans, but then again, the game will have 50 characters. it seems like it's less but with that many characters, that's more than enough for Capcom to decide not to add anymore. I'm still gonna cross my fingers for a few more of them though, but maybe I'm just being greedy...

He was stated already by Nitsuma (sp?) that Capcom wanted a character that could fly and swoop down on people, hence Firebrand. It wasn't so much the popularity of the character, but the potential play style that brings something new to the game.

What #16 said. They wanted certain playstyles in the game and selected characters based off that, not necessarily on popularity.
Also, Marvel had a list of characters they did not want in the game, and Venom was on that list. I wish people would stop bringing up the Unity polls, they were fan run and unofficial. Just because Venom/Gambit were at the top of those polls, MARVEL gets final say.

I think that's the big deal about MVC3 is that if people really hated it as much as they said they did they wouldn't care if so and so and what's his face were in the game or not. I got who I wanted in Stryder, Dante, Frank West, Haggar so really there aren't any other Capcom characters I need personally.

You put She-hulk and X-23 in the original and I still don't give a **** about them or Taskmaster or any other dumb nich character. If Capcom wakes up tomorrow morning and decides Poison was a woman all along, she was a woman all along. You can't watch the latest episode of a television program and say "you know what, I don't like what just happened, I'm not going to accept that as canon." You can take things however you like in your own personal way and even write fanfiction that changes the way things happened, but you're not in control of canon. If Poison is a woman "to you," have fun with that. Poison is a fictional character, you can fabricate a fictional character in your mind exactly like Poison who was born a woman if you so wish. That still doesn't change the canon established by Capcom.

Strider- Top voted on the Fan Poll Vergil-Top voted on fan poll P.Wright-Top voted on fan poll Frank West- Top Voted on Fan poll. Nemesis-Had plans on putting in a TYrant in Vanilla but decided not too. Firebrand- Wanted something New for the game. So it seems like Fans got atleast 4 of the characters they wanted in the game, while capcom decided on something different for two charcters. How is that not listening to fans? Just because One character wasn't added in? If anything, people should be bitchin about Marvel completely ignoring ALL of their fans.

Didnt say anything about killing off one character in favor of the other. That was my own personal gripe about how the character. I know he help make them money but the character is so stale now, plus they tried it before in favor of alex in III series fans got angry and they opted not to do so. And once again they need to just stick to one story.

The FACT however, is that the original stance was that the Poison characters was a female and was changed to transsexuals to avoid any controversy in America at the time. This decision took on a life of its own and Capcom has perpetuated it themselves. So, in America Poison is a post-op tranny (which is guess what? I'd rather Psylocke be in over Cyclops though. If there are going to be 2 spots for Xmen it should be Psylocke and Cyclops (even if I would prefer Iceman, lets face it this game needs more ice based characters, there are a million fire based already). Cyclops is the face of X men and the game feels off w/o him in it. Gambit also brings a unique gameplay to the game so he should have been in all along. Even though it's hard at times to since Capcom constantly has different people and teams say different things at various points that flat out contradict each other.
