Ryota Niitsuma was recently on the live video feed from Comic-Con to talk about Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. He shared a number of new details about the game, here's a transcript of the notable information he had to share.• In regards to online features for UMvC3, the match making process was sped up, they reduced online lag and the menu flow is easier for rematching players.
• At the current stage of development, there is no replay mode in UMvC3.
• The HUD shown is not the final version and is for Comic-Con. They're aware the lifebars for backup characters are hard to see and more tweaks are coming.
• Niitsuma hoped to get more characters from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 into UMvC3, but Marvel had their preferences, so Capcom went with those. Niitsuma also wanted to get another non-fighting game character in, but didn't say who that was.
• Tournament results and videos were a factor in balancing the game. Fan feedback and other stuff went a long ways in helping the developers change things.
• Not all characters got new moves, some just got tweaks to their existing attacks. Moves were added or changed to balance out the game, not just to add/change moves. C. Viper did get a new move, though. Frame data for a lot of the characters has been tweaked.
• The number of costume colors available for the characters has been expanded.
• There's no new end boss for UMvC3, still Galactus, but that doesn't mean they've left him untouched. He's got some new bells and whistles to throw at players.
• There will be something for MvC3 fans who bought the original game, if you have the save data on your console. What that is isn't revealed yet, but there will be an extra.
• If UMvC3 sells well, there will responses to fan requests for more content. This was said in response to if Mega Man will be in the game or not.
• All of the old stages are still in the game. Kattelox Island's snow version is separate from the old one.
• Capcom will not do a complete change log for MvC3 to UMvC3, but they're planning on doing something to document the changes between games.
• Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be at EVO 2011.
• If you bought DLC costumes/characters for MvC3, that will be useable in UMvC3, but Shadow Mode DLC will not be going over to UMvC3, that's only for vanilla MvC3.
• Capcom didn't want to completely overhaul X-Factor, because it's still MvC3, but they did make some changes to it, it does less damage now and of course can be activated in the air, as previously reported.
• The new characters in the game will have their own endings, stories and stuff, but it sounds like they'll be styled how they were in MvC3.
• Simple mode will be like it was in MvC3, you can't access all of a character's moves with it.
• Capcom went to the original source material a lot for the characters to try to bring them to life in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
• Hawkeye was a choice Marvel was very excited about. He has good long range attacks of course, but his close range attacks are good as well, making him pretty unique and fun to use.
Maybe the other character was Sissel from Ghost Trick
I hope they will put in a replay feature but it's not a big deal since I can recorde my own matches. I would like it for quick-study purposes after matches.
Im super happy about the spectator mode and improved online experience, that is more than enough. No more humping cards.
Niitsuma also wanted to get another non-fighting game character in, but didn't say who that was.
Phoenix Wright :D
Moveset:
Projectile will be spilling ht coffee on the opponent. He also has a good keep away game by placing a restraining order on the other character.
Good thing that I only bought Jill and Shuma-Gorath then XD
So, the game actually has 48 characters, and Jill and Shuma will still be DLC characters. Hmm... Capcom want the money for their characters in any way possible.
Also, I would like to know what they are going to give to MVC3 buyers. I'm pretty sure it will be a free costume pack or something like that. I don't expect something useful lol
A lot of people are wondering why some of the new characters on the Marvel side are "B-level" and lesser known characters, but when you think about it, they already added a vast majority of A-level characters and a good chunk of the main faces of Marvel, so it's refreshing to see some other characters get a chance in the spotlight. I for one definitely welcome it, especially if it adds variety to the roster.
I would have liked another X-Men character but oh well, not a big deal.
"but Shadow Mode DLC will not be going over to UMvC3"
Lmao this is what you get for feeding them 1$ for some lame sphincter cpu battles that should have already been in the game. Baka!
I knew it. Replay will be in the next mvc3 as a new feature. Ugh
wow, why didnt they just hold off mvc3. Thanks for the beta capcom.
"• If UMvC3 sells well, there will responses to fan requests for more content. This was said in response to if Mega Man will be in the game or not."
Another god damn lie. Capcom, just tell the damn truth already, that you don't care about Mega Man.
He doesn't care about mega man... if at this point they do not have replay mode in the game it is not going to make it. November is almost here.... We will have to wait until Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3: Arcade Edition for the replay mode and probably just probably Mega Man X.
Whew I thought I wasted my money I used for DLCs (Jill and SHuma). And I didn't buy any Shadow Mode DLCs.
"If UMvC3 sells well" - lol. Always have to hear that. They keep fooling fans into buying their games so that they can make sure they get a steady supply of $$$. Sooner or later, they will HAVE to bring Megaman and other beloved characters or they won't be able to "sell well". Niitsuma's so called "explanation" for not letting Megaman in is all part of a publicity stunt.
And I don't wanna talk about Marvel - they're excited for Hawkeye??? WTF???
Darn, it's a shame that UMvC3 don't have Replay Mode, but at least UMvC3 had Spectator Mode and the fanbase is happy. It's all myrth and sorrow for Mega Man X. He was disconfirmed like in the vanilla version. It's a shame that he gone to the walk of shame.
i wudn't get my hopes up for the "surprise" for those who have vanilla mvc3 data saved on their system. the same was said for vanilla sf4 owners, & all we got for ssf4 were two crappy new colors -_-
@33
You mean out of 6. Only 6 characters are Capcom and one's Capcom have final say on.
@29
Why wouldn't they be excited for Hawkeye? He is one of their premier characters from the last 50 years and will be in The Avengers movie next year, so this is good advertisement to make those who aren't familiar with him familiar.
@37
It's not worse than CoD. CoD comes out every single year and costs full price. At least Capcom's follow-ups cost less.
I only wish that there should be an option to switch between the HUD that will soon be revealed later on with the original MvC3 HUD. I like the original one much better.
I was hoping that something like this would be the last event but when you beat Galactus and he says "now I must crush you like the bug that you are" I was always waiting for him to rise back up with his entire body visible. I mean in the model viewer they did make his entire body. not to mention him falling over the side when you win just didn't seem epic enough to me. He's the friggin Devourer of Worlds for godsakes. Do him some justice. At the very least they should put that on the hardest difficulty.
X is great but the original mega man deserves the spot.
@#15
I agree!
By including the lesser known Marvel characters. Marvel is telling all the Mainstream Casual Marvel fans that they have other important Marvel characters too. It's not going to be all 90's and major film Marvel characters forever. Those characters had their chance in the spotlight it's time for the rest together theirs.
Marvel is still a Comic Company after all.
the reason why Doctor Octopus and Frank West were found on the disc was probably because they were going to be the new DLC characters, but when the decision was made to put new content on a title update instead (apparently because of the tsunami in Japan) it never ended up happening. Frank is in though, so either Doctor Octopus will be DLC, or they canned him. most likely the latter.
Finally, they tell everyone that the HUD isn't a final work. Even though in every video i've seen so far there's a message saying just that, people seem to actually believe that was going to be the final form. I mean, I know it's Capcom, but c'mon guys, use common sense here. I do like that they plan to redo the x-factor display, it should be a little bit more obvious as to whether or not it is available. Only makes me more excited for EVO, since the November release date means there's only going to be one opportunity to declare a vanilla MVC3 world champ. Get your fill of Wolvie and Phoenix while you can, folks.
Can Rockety Raccoon fly? I mean he should have a rocket if thats his name.
@43: Marvel has been a comic company for years. Adding characters that were obscure helps raise awareness.
"Improved match making" - Well it couldnt be much worse could it!
"Hawkeye was a choice Marvel was very excited about" - At least someone is. Hawkeye is only in uMvC3 bcos MARVEL want to promote his character for the Avengers film. Waste of a perfectly good character slot IMO
@54
I assume you don't read Avengers comics. He has been one of the premier Avengers for almost 50 years and even their leader in different versions of it. If people didn't buy comics with him in it, they would have done to him what they did to Ant-man, one of the original Avengers, change his "gimmick" numerous times or just forget him all together, but they haven't. He has stayed the same, costume and all, for almost 50 years. That alone should tell you something.
He is a popular character to those who read comics or read more than X-Men and Spider-man comics and follow the Avengers.
@62
and they had Taskmaster before Hawkeye, Taskmaster is like the most laziest character now, since he just has moves from EVERYONE in the game now. Still one of my favs though, just kinda lame.
Doc oc and Frank west were included on the disc as they were intended to be originally included. Frank west didnt make the game as his development was taking too long and capcom moved members and resources over to other chars to ensure the quality at its highest. Doc oc probably the same reason.
Also this whole Capcom wants to milk us dry is only half true, yes they do re-release games to ensure more money, some minor some major changes, etc however at the end of the day it is only demand and supply. We as fans of the series want re-balancing, more characters, more stages, more moves etc and they supply it. If you want them to stop re-releasing these, then stop demanding it, or boycott the re-issue to show that they will actually lose customers this way. If not, stop complaining.

wHeRe's mEgAmAn?!?!11!?!>? U kNo pOiSoN A dUdE rIgHt!?!?!?!111?!?!>?
@65
oh wow, then Firebrand had more votes then Hawkeye too! Firebrand - 260
@68
Everything is a cash grab. What gaming company makes games or releases DLC for free?
It's just a failed business venture.
Will there be a new strategy book/info guide for UMVC3? Please take of that big RED thing when we are x factor, it is really annoying and ugly.
Dear Capcom,
GET RID OF THE HUD!!! Good lord, I could design a better one in my sleep. And what exactly was wrong with the vanilla version? Change it a little like SSFIV did, make the X-Factor a little more noticeable, and we're good! Figures, the one thing hardly ANYBODY complained about, they messed with.
@61
Obviously YOU don't read the comics, otherwise you'd know Hawkeye's gone through SEVERAL changes over the years, including using some Pym particles to become Goliath, being dead, donning the ninja suit and becoming Ronin for a few years, and even almost becoming the new Captain America. Not to mention originally being a villain before becoming a mainstay Avenger.
All that said, I don't personally care that much about the character, but I get why folks like him and wanted him in this game. I'd've rather had Gambit, Nightcrawler, Kick-Ass, or Venom (now I wanna know why Marvel wouln't let Capcom have him), but that's just me.
> Ry-Guy
• If UMvC3 sells well, there will responses to fan requests for more content. This was said in response to if Mega Man will be in the game or not.
So in other words, you only think of Mega Man as nothing more than a cashcow for you to milk. Hmm Capcom, maybe that's why his popularity dwindled over the past decade.
Poison is NOT a tranny OR a man, Poison IS a woman. The tranny story was made up because when final fight came out it was pretty much the first video game to depict violence against a woman(Poison). So to appease perceived outrage about that in the US(censors) they made up the story of her being a tranny.
Poison is, was, and always will be a woman.
@74
I'm aware of his changes, I am referring to changes in relationship to his "gimmick" as Hawkeye due to being an unpopular character, like Hank Pym (dying & being a villain don't count as changes in his gimmick). All the changes that Hawkeye had were short and related to current story arcs at the time and he would always go back to the character we knew. Whereas Pym seems to bounce around his gimmicks, one time being Ant-Man then Giant-man then Goliath, the Yellow Jacket and now he is Wasp, and many times having no gimmick at all except being Hank Pym.
There is a reason Hawkeye is in the new Avengers movie of all possible Avengers and not Ant-man. Hawkeye's Robin Hood gimmick is popular.
@65 & @66
Venom - 2034
Gambit - 1704
Hawkeye - 166
There, some relevant 1st round data to base whatever on.
@78
I'm talking about the COMIC the movie was BASED on. And though I'd HARDLY say Nic Cage was what made the movie great (there were SEVERAL reaaons it more than lived up to its name), I WILL admit it's the movie Nicholas Cage didn't ruin.
@82
Lol,i got the opposite opinion,I think Nic and Eva Mendez were miscasted and the movie was meh at the most.
You gotta admit that Blackheart was a joke..XD
It's all opinion,so no real use debating,but I would've rather seen some nobody play ghostrider whose not over his 40's.
@#83
There was a ghost rider movie? i was too busy looking at Eva Mendez >_<
@topic
Marvel and its shameless promotion..... and capcom of japan need to stop being so "traditional" as they would like to call it and make the game proper.
I'm surprised how many people here are ignorant as to who Hawkeye is.
I assume most of you guys are American. Did you not look at a comic or two in the past 50 years? Comics are supposed to be an American tradition, and Hawkeye is in a hell of a lot of them.
@79 Wow someone on here that actually uses there brain..
So many childish people on here are too hung up on the tranny story that they cant see past it. All the kids think its funny to think of her as a tranny, and fail to see that it was all made up to cover capcoms backs about in-game violence. But at the end of the day, does it really matter? NO!
"• If UMvC3 sells well, there will responses to fan requests for more content. This was said in response to if Mega Man will be in the game or not."
I guess I always have my Stress Reduction Kit:
I will be waiting at least a week on this purchase. If the online play isn't on par with SSF4, no money for you, Capcom. I'm sick and tired of the "nickel & diming" mentality currently in the industry. Also, anyone with half a brain cell would wager Mega Man and Gambit are included on the CD in "downloadable content" form.
Must leverage the children!
@83 & @82
... Ack, I should've clarified: I meant the "Kick-Ass" comic and movie, not Ghost Rider. XD
> Ry-Guy
Even if you meant Kick-Ass, you won't be able to have him Marvel doesn't OWN the character. Marvel only published the Kick-Ass comic through its Icon chapter. Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. are the guys who own the Kick-Ass IP and have the final say.
Capcom, I usually support you... But I'm sure as hell not paying $40 for 11 1/2 characters just so you know that. Everything else mentioned could easily, EASILY be a regular patch. No thanks. Looking forward to RE ORC, 4, CV, SF3, DMC and SSF4: AE 2012 :)
Happy to hear about the HUD. And I wonder who the other character was...
