A lot of fans have wondered why Mega Man wasn't included in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's lineup, and while details are scarce here, the title's producer did shine a little bit more light on the subject recently via SiliconEra.
"I’m sorry, there is no Mega Man in Ultimate," Niitsuma apologized. "We had a lot of requests from fans for Mega Man or at least one of them to be in the game. Out of all of the requests we got for Capcom characters, he just didn’t enter the top part of the ranking. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the cut."
Firebrand, the flying red demon, is one of Capcom’s lesser known characters and he made it in, though. Requests from fans of Gargoyle’s Quest didn’t have anything to do with this. Capcom wanted a creature-like character who could fly for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. With that criteria in mind, they thought of Firebrand and added him to the game.
Well to be honest, I prefer having Rocket Raccoon to Rockman X or another Blue Bomber.
They do realize that X was top requested on that Capcommunity survey awhile back, right?
This makes sense, though it is unfortunate, every character has their place and I certainly have faith Capcom knows what they are doing.

Wasn't Capcom's choice (for rocket raccoon) or point they were trying to make. I'm not too happy about no Mega Man but I'm sure they had their reasons, Zero more than made up for Mega Man originally in my mind. And don't hate on R Raccoon he seems cool :)

Mega Man DLC most likely. ALthough there has been no news or info on Future DLC for UMVC3. I really hope there is a way to Get UMVC3 without getting another disc. Also the fact that Jill and Shuma are rumored included in UMVC3 it kind of sucks for those that already DOLC them for $10. They should get a discount of $10 for UMVC3.
I'm in support for more character DLC. Since MK is most liley bringing all the MK characters that have been released it would be cool that Capcom does the smae for Characters like Venom. Spidey needs a rival.

Even if the capcom-unity poll was a not complete and accurate representation of fans most requested characters, I find it hard to believe that megaman would rank behind firebrand or nemesis in most requested characters for mvc3. Combine all the requests for the various megamans (x, classic, exe)and I can easily see him in top 5. X has hover boots, they could've easily given flight capabilities if they had wanted to.
Although I like the Nemesis, I feel the RE already has enough villain representation with Wesker and Jill. Should've just went with nemesis as DLC initially rather than Jill.

Hang out on comic message boards and see the other side. Along with his buddy Groot (A talking tree), he's actually very popular in the way Deadpool was before he was overexposed. He's the next up an coming character, believe it or not. Marvel wants to hype him up for casuals too as an entry into comics. They're really not interested in characters like Gambit and Cable because those guys (As popular as they were in the 90's) don't sell comics and are past their prime.
As for the Capcom side... I'm really not sure why they hate Megaman. He adds a unique style the same way Firebrand does. I'm not sure why they needed a 3rd DMC character or 4th Resident Evil guy.
Clearly when the fan poll plastered that large warning all over it saying point-blank that it's not an officially poll and only that Capcom is AWARE of it, and may or MAY NOT take the results into consideration... many people skipped over that part.
There's no way of telling which poll or ranking (or whatever) he's referring to. Maybe it's an internal ranking within the company? Maybe in Japan? Maybe his kids?

In any case, as much as I'd like Rockman in the game, if he couldn't be in it, then he couldn't be in it. I'll get over it (in fact I did a long while ago). The cast that's there now looks pretty interesting, ad I'm actually glad that they're reaching for more obscure characters on both sides of the coin (Capcom and Marvel).

It's not a popularity contest. Characters are not picked based soley on how much people know them. If that was the case we would never have characters like Abel or Viper in SFIV or Taskmaster who is actually really good in MvC3. Eventually, you have to think outside the box and unfortunatly, Mega Man, is hardly that.
I have a feeling Rocket Raccoon is not 100% Marvel decision. Capcom probably wanted another obscured and lesser known Marvel Character and when they asked who they had, Marvel showed them a list and perhaps Racoon Rocket stuck out, kind of how M.O.D.O.K. was chosen.
Again, it can't always be about fan service, the game has to have enough variety to keep things fresh and new. I know thats not what Mega Man fans want to hear, he is a beloved character to many and I very few hate him, but thats just how it is. Im disappointed too but I understand.

Zero - Was begged for by fans to be in a fighting game for years before TVC. After being in TVC people were a little tired of him because of how overused he became. The funniest part of all is he was probably being developed for MvC3 before UAS.
Wesker - Granted there were plenty of support for Leon too, but I saw many fans clamoring for him. Especially after Chris was revealed in the first trailer.
Dante - Seriously, how many times did I have to listen to his name come up? And weren't a lot of people upset about him not being in TVC?
Haggar - How long have fans been asking for him in a fighting game?
Amaterasu - Again, very popular and requested.
Arthur - This guy goes all the way back to the original MVC days. His demand has probably been the longest and steady. I believe he was also requested for TVC.
Hsien-Ko - Besides Talbain I saw a lot of DS fans requesting her. Not my problem she didn't pan put so well...
And now we have Strider, Frank, Vergil, and Phoenix freaking Wright. Wright being one of THE most requested for the longest time. I love MM as much as the next guy and fully believe not including him is one of the most idiotic moves to make. But take a step back and really take a look at who has been added.
There's plenty of fan-favorite characters who made it into MVC3. Yeah, it sucks when your personal favorite doesn't make the cut, but just because someone you wanted didn't get in doesn't mean Capcom "isn't listening to the fans."

Seriously? Do you even follow this game, or are you just judging based on the terrible people you play online? Zero is a very good character, he just takes some work to play him well so the online scrubs are terrible with him. But there are a lot of top players that use him, and he's a great character. Mega man would be awesome, he has a ton of potential. That said, I am ok with the current lineup, Vergil excites me, as well as dr. Strange, I can see a lot of cool technology Coming out of them for sure.
This is what I think is going on. In a game where you have to pay for content(i.e. Marvel characters), the game can get expensive pretty quick; especially since Marvel has blown up in a couple of years largely due to Marvel films. I think that Capcom went way out of budget and was unable to create the game they wanted and still be profitable. So they cut down on story mode, online mode, and testings. The game only sold 2 million or something so the profits made from this game is not enough for them to develop the game further. ( I know a hundred billion sounds like a lot but much of that is subtracted in expenses/production and a huge part is used to further invest into this particular game and other parts of Capcom) They would have to release "ultimate" to make up for licensing fees and production costs. "Ultimate" uses partially finished character models to cut down costs. It's the only way to make real money off this franchise and also fix a lot of things with the vanilla version. If you look closely, firebrand is pulled directly from the background of the Ghouls n Goblin stage. Tronne was pulled from the Legends stage. Nemesis was pulled from RE stage; I mean, come on, do u guys really think they planned on putting five RE characters in? Vergil, Frank, Ghost Rider, DR Strange, and a lot more were partially completed already but didn't make the cut; takes little revenue and time to finish and polish up. I don't think any characters in Ultimate is truly "new." Even Strider. After seeing Strider in action I can see why he was dropped because he did looked a bit weird and maybe that's why Capcom decided to drop him from vanilla. But his movesets fits in very well.
Whoever just said zero isn't used competively and sucks well there is a guy by the name of Marn who uses magneto zero and sentinel and his zero is uttery ridiculous also to watch great fighting game matches if you don't know check out frame-advantage.com it is awsome

People that don't understand: Megaman is practically Capcom's mascot. It would be like having a Smash Bros. without Mario. Zero is absolutely nothing like Megaman. If you believe they are as nything alike, pick yourself up a Megaman game. For starters, Megaman shoots at far range and Zero slashes up close.

You sure about that? Let's see how many people (non-gamers included) know who Megaman is and how many people know who Ryu is. Money says more people know Megaman over Ryu. As for sales, when was the last time a Sonic game sold well? You don't see Sega abandoning Sonic. You still think of Sonic when you think of Sega.
Okay then explain why Ryu is in the game, but Not Megaman? And Sonic actually does sell well. Much better then Megaman does. Just because Sonic games might be medicore, they still sale Much more units then megaman has recentlly. And Megaman did not make capcom into what it was today. Also, Sega only has ONE mascot. Sonic is the face of Sega as Sega depends mainly on Sonic. Nintendo has many Mascots, but their main mascot has always done well. Capcom, has had a few mascots, and if Megaman was so well known as the likes of Mario and Sonic, His games would actually do well in both the east and west, but they don't. His games do poorly in the west and medicore in the East. While Ryu, another one of capcom's mascots, does fairly well in both the east and west.

And Megaman sales, what about Battle Network?
Nevertheless, sales =/= mascot representation. It's all about who's the most well-known and Megaman is the one that's most well-known from Capcom, not Ryu or Captain Commando.
i don't really give a damn that megaman isn't in the game to be honest lol. i've liked zero more than megaman since the moment i laid eyes on him lol, and he's a hell of a lot better than megaman IMO.

He might be well known but that automatically mean he is the mascot of said company. If he was the so-called mascot thats why megaman is in the game right? Because if he was the so called mascot then there would be no way he could not be in this game right? It would be a MUST to put Megaman in the game. Oh wait, he isn't in the game now is he? But you see, it is a MUST to put RYU in the game. It wouldn't be a Capcom Vs. Game WITHOUT Ryu, and they without a doubt never even think about omitting Ryu from certain games. Megaman MIGHT have been the mascot back in the 90s, but Ryu apparently has taken his spot, as megaman has taken Captain Commando's spot.

Zero is not more popular than mega man, they put him in cause he was easy to port from tvc, and megaman IS the face of capcom, not ryu, ryu is the face of SF, nothing more. The reason MM is not in the game is because inafune left capcom, and they are trying to wash their hands of him and his franchise because of the bad blood left. And he could possibly be trying to get the rights to megaman, which would absolutely kill any possibility of him getting into the game.
So no, it's not because you think ryu is a mascot or some dumb sht like that.
Oh, and I forgot to add that the last couple megaman games, the 8 bit throwbacks were very well received, and i had heard they sold quite well. Megaman is not a dying franchise, you just hate him for some reason, when without him we would not have any of the capcom fighting games we love so much, and in fact would not even be able to argue over this game at all. Capcom has to put the man into the game he basically allowed to happen. And they would have put him in already, guaranteed, if inafune hadn't left cap com, basically sealing his fate.
well, my hopes of getting bass.exe or megaman.exe have been shot down. would've had a really creative movepool with the whole battlechip system. oh well :/
Jeez why insult me? Because of my opinions? All of this is speculation anyway. Unless you work at capcom, nobody will never know why Megaman was left out the game. But it is not point crying and attacking other people about it. Unless they decide to add him as DLC, which I doubt, You guys are going to have to stop being butt hurt and accept that your Dying mascot isn't in the game. Either that or not buy the game. And if you are not buying the game just because "Said" character is or isn't in the game then good riddance, you'll just be missing out on, in my opinion, a good game.
It doesn't really matter what poll Megaman was on in my opinion. Megaman is a highly requested character since the start of MvC 3. Unless they don't have the rights to him, there is no excuse for him not to be here (if they care so much about fan feedback, first and foremost).
So I tend to think whatever reason he isn't in, is a business decision. Possibly to hook sales for a later flavor of MvC.
For those of you screaming that is was a fan poll. When researchers and politicians are collecting information on opinions and various topics, they do sample polls of random people and not a country as a whole. Normally what this represents is the thoughts of the majority. Yes, it is true that every person's thoughts won't be represented, but as a majority this polls work. Same thing here, even if it was a 3100 person poll, the numbers should NOT vary that much if the poll had, lets say, every Capcom fan in the world. We all know that Megaman should have been in the original MVC3 just as he should have been the first to be introduced in UMVC3.
