Destructoid put together an interview discussing the development and release of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Topics include upcoming disc release and the changes to the MvC3 system.Destructoid: How much of the gameplay has changed? Is it simply tweaks and improvements for existing characters, or are there new modes?
Niitsuma: It's not just minor tweaks. There are some definitive changes in the game in terms of the battle system and the characters themselves. We've really tried to balance it all out and make it feel better. We did listen to a lot of user feedback and take that into account, especially when making changes to the battle system in the game. We've added new modes, for example, a spectator mode. We wanted to make sure the network and online parts of the game are more robust. While it's not a complete shift, it's vastly improved over the previous version.
Destructoid: Can you go into detail on what has changed for X-Factor?
Niitsuma: One of the biggest things for X-Factor is that we've enabled use in the air. Say you're doing an air combo. In the middle of that combo you can activate X-Factor and can continue to chain combos in the air after you've activated. That's one of the biggest changes. We've also made some minor adjustments to the strength of attacks in X-Factor as well.
Well...this is depressing. No more characters. I'm probably still gonna get the game though. I miss beasting with Logan.
Seth stated that they also normalized X-Factor's buffs across everyone, as well as a general XF damage buff nerf. Sounds cool.
I don't really care if it's DLC or disc. I found MvC3 worth the amount I paid in fun (I literally cannot watch MvC3 being played by anybody without wanting to play myself), which is why I buy games, so if/when UMvC3 brings more I'll be set.
I hope this finally shuts up all those cry babies saying how Capcom is releasing the game through as a disc and not DLC. It's amazing how people quickly forgot the devestation that took place in Japan.
O WOW give me a F**KinG break!!! Tragic world disasters is the reason their greedy asses have been milking their titles to death since the early 90's?!
Capcom lows have no boundaries now. "Lets blame the tsunami for how short our previous game delivered." I know the tsunami had an effect on a lot of lives and game companies, but really Capcom?? You've had this pattern of milking your titles to death since what...Street Fighter 2?! #F**k Outta here with that excuse. I call bulls!t. Just simply say... "We're just greedy like that." Honesty goes a long way.
I know I'll get bashed for saying it, but thats price one must pay for having an opinion, so have at it folks... I'll bring the popcorn and wait to be amused.
X-FACTOR SHOULD JUST INCREASE SPECIAL MOVES/SUPER DAMAGE AND IT'LL BE GOOD IF IT CAN BE USED AS A COMBO BREAKER ( BURST ) IF TWO OF YOUR CHARACTERS ARE IN A COMBO BUT YOU LOOSE IT AS A RESULT...
WITHOUT THE DHC GLITCH I'M AFRAID THAT LOW DAMAGING CHARACTERS HAVE NO ALTERNATIVE IN GETTING HIGH DAMAGE OUTPUT WHICH YOU GUYS SHOULD BE CAREFUL OF..
WITHOUT THE DHC GLITCH WE WILL HAVE TO DEPEND ON HOW GOOD THE CHARACTER WAS MAde IN RESPECTS TO DAMAGE WHICH CONCERNS ME GREATLY
@8 - actually, it's a legitimate reason. And even if that wasn't the reason it's being released on disc, personally I don't have a huge problem with that, so long as the changes and amount of things added are significant.
For me personally, it is.
I DO think it's too soon (not even a year?), but if it makes for a better game and the price is reduced, why not? Those who want the newer version can get it; those who don't, won't.
That said, I do think they could have at least found a way to add spectator mode to the current build. That does bite and is primarily why I stopped playing online.
I concerned by the fact of Jill and Shuma and buying them again. If the game will be a separate disc release that means it will have a different title ID and so might not be compatible with previously bought dlc. Kinda don't want to buy the same thing twice.
You can release updated version of sports games and cod every year at full price, and people are okay with it. Do that with a fighting game and everybody goes crazy, complaining about paying less than full price for a game they know they're going to enjoy.
@14 I think the main issue is not paying for a yearly update of the same game, but the fact that MvC3 came out in February and they already have a new version of the game coming out in November. Makes my purchase of the game in February look sort of stupid, since the game was incomplete then.
@#7
I agree - and I'm somebody that also forgot about that as a potential issue.
I feel bad now. :(
Looks like Niitsuma had his excuses in the bag, ready to be taken out at a moment's notice. Not that I'm complaining that the game won't be DLC (I'm buying the game regardless), but this just reeks of "Please forgive us. We just had something bad happen to us." Development schedules are affected by many things, but having the game come out less than a year after the initial release tells us the real motive behind the decision. I would rather he had said that the game is basically like SSF4, where the inclusion of new characters, stages, features/modes, and gameplay changes are going to be of great value for a $40 game.
I hope they make it where x factor doesn't increase the chip damage. I hate blocking moves and skill getting killed because of how ridiculous it gets.
To anyone complaining about the way they are releasing this game, lets do some simple math shall we?
12 characters x $5 a pop as DLC = $60
And that's not even with the balance changes/new features.
Game is $40 on release which is $20 less than above price.
HOW is this a bad thing compared to doing it all dlc.
Another little equation to wrap your head around:
SSF4:AE = $15 with only 4 new characters and balance changes. UMvC3 has 12. So if we multiply AE's cost to reflect UMvC3 content, that's $45.
Still more than what Capcom is giving us UMvC3 for.
And all you people who are about to shout capcom fanboi and dickrider can go take a long walk off a short pier. This is not opinion, this is fact.
Stop whining already.
And to those complaining about it coming out so soon...
Well this is all the stuff YOU the community bitched about and whined about and asked about in the last 6 months.
Capcom is giving YOU what YOU wanted and at a reduced price.
@19 that's assuming that you're going to buy ALL the character DLC's. Are you? If all 12 characters were DLC, can you honestly say that you'd buy, play and use all 12? Doubt it.
That's why the "$5 a piece, they're SAVING US MONEY!" argument has more holes than a rat chewed piece of swiss cheese.
It still blows my mind every time a new version of a game is announced and people would rather bitch and cry than be excited. You are logged into a website devoted specifically to these games. Capcom is a business that needs to make money. This seems like a mutually beneficial relationship. This is a day 1 purchase. I really dont see an issue.
@21
Yes, yes I honestly would buy all 12.
You're also using opinion to argue fact. Your OPINION is that not everyone would buy all the characters. The FACT is that if they would this version and release method of the game would be cheaper. Move along please.
I thought Capcom said that Strider didnt fit in MVC3's concept.... Liars
Sounds reasonable...well see how it is when people start playing! Good Work thus far! :D
