Multiple readers wrote in today about a rumor that surfaced claiming that an update to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is in the works, adding the Ultimate prefix. Details are pretty scare, and there's no source named for the rumors, but this news has had people buzzing so far. Here's a clip from the site that posted the rumor.
The title will be a re-release similar to Super Street Fighter IV, which many fighting game fans will remember was budget priced at $39.99, and came with heaping handful of new characters exclusive to that version. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will see a similar release later this year, and with the character count jumping from 38 (including DLC fighters Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath) to 50, there are at least a dozen reasons to be excited.
While our sources have been mum on the new characters expected to make an appearance, the inclusion of Frank West and Doctor Octopus files hidden on the original Marvel vs. Capcom 3 game disc should mean the appearance of those two characters is almost a given. We’ll let the speculation run wild as to the other ten characters, but we’d love to see the debut of the oft-rumored Phoenix Wright (as a fully playable character) and return of Mega Man, as well as the father/son tandem of Cable and Cyclops.
These are details that most active community members could have guessed at — or made up — so take this as you will. It has been confirmed that there are more plans for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 that will be revealed at Comic-Con, so in just under a week's time we'll know a lot more. Until then, expect lots of speculation.

This is not something I am happy about, why do we have to buy another disc version of the game. The game should have had at least 2 years before a major title update and what about the dlc for the current version; so basically we were test players for the beta...this is annoying.
I would be pretty upset if this rumor is legit. The game was just released, and there's already contemplations about a sequal?
If this is legit, I hope they plan on compensating those who've already purchased the game and not just some bs alternate colors like they did with SSFIV. In fact, I should just be able to walk up to a retailer and be able to purchase the game for 25 bucks just for owning the original.
60 bucks for an incomplete game? Scratch that, 70 bucks (shuma and jill dlc) and a terrible online matchmaking? The game clearly looks like it can support more chars, so i hope this isn't true.

Lupinko has already leaked Strider and Phoenix Wright, so unless he just decided to magically become a huge troll and loose all credibility, I would count on those two.

Normally I would agree, but I do disagree with a lot of the fundamental decisions they decided to make in MvC3, a new edition will be very very welcome if they fix the game.
Like what #25 and 26 said, too early. I prefer it as a DLC update instead as well as the chance to get the disc. Speculation everywhere. Either way, I want my Mega Man, Strider, Phoenix Wright, War Machine, Elektra and Squirrel Girl. That's it.
it better be as DLC for about $15-20. They been stringing along the news for dlc for the longest. So both maybe valid as far as being a disc and dlc release with characters. Comic con is near so we will find out soon. Just would be pretty messed up if the rumor hold true and we have to shell out another 40$.

So CAPCOM tacitly admits they rushed out an unfinished, unbalanced game for a quick buck, then less than 6 months later, they announce the REAL game, and people don't really seem to care about being tricked into paying full-price for the original game. All they want is HURR DURR PHOENIX WRIGHT. Yeah, let's have a lawyer with no super-powers or weapons of any sort go up against the devourer of worlds, Galactus.
And you just KNOW this game is going to sell like hotcakes wrapped inside an unreleased Harry Potter book set during Hermione's bi-curious phase, thus further validating CAPCOM's increasingly bizarre money-grubbing ways.
mvc3 is dlc compatible. why should i have to buy another disc? now i'm forced to pay full price for a package of new characters while i might not even want some of them(phoenix wright and squirrel girl being potential characters that i'll never pay for).
i passed up on ae, because quite frankly, i think €15 is too much for a package that only gives two characters that i want(oni, e.ryu and an incomprehensible de-balance not being good additions imo), so i don't have a problem doing so with ultimate mvc3 as well if this happens.
i've had it with capcom's marketing schemes and i'm not gonna fall for it again.

For those of you complaining, do you buy Apple products, mobile phones, or any piece of technology for that matter? You better stop buying that stuff then, because it's the same thing. Something better is always coming out. That's how gaming is now too. Get used to it or find another hobby.
If this is comparable to the improvements from SFIV to Super, it's a steal at $40. Making these games cost money. They can't give these out for free. Super was a darn good value. Look how much more/better NEW content that was. If they broke that up into DLC it would cost at least that much or more. Heck, it was $10 for 2 MvC3 characters.
Also if Capcom is telling the truth, MvC3's development was happening before or alongside SFIV, so MvC3 was their first stab at this series without the experience of the SFIV->Super upgrade. No way MvC3 was gonna meet the standard of Super. It's not being realistic to compare it to that standard. Of course for this MvC3 update and any future game (SFxTekken) it is fair to compare to Super's features. If any of these are missing those features, then you can complain.

I think it's too early for an "Ultimate" update. They first need to patch the game and complete the character select screen for MvC3 first; I swear, those two empty spaces are killing me. This is a fighting game with an in-depth system so if I was Capcom, I'd wait and see if anything game breaking occurs and address those issues first. I would love an Ultimate edition but just not right now. In addition, if they don't bother adding dlc content to MvC3 and updating the game than why should I purchase Ultimate? What if Capcom decides to do the same for Ultimate? And what happened to the costume dlcs for MvC3? They released a single pack and that's it? Not only that but only one player can choose the alternate. wtf? I don't understand the marketing strategy for the MvC3 project at all. It's turning out to be a let down and a huge disappointment for everyone.
What I think Capcom should improve on:
Love the MvC2 engine but that's it. The menus are ugly and looks incomplete. Online mode is poorly structured. Lack of "useful" online modes. Easy mode is pretty much useless because those who play this game don't use that mode; even my sister rather mash with normal mode than use easy mode. Limited stages. Linear story mode; we also never got what we were promised which is an in-depth storyline. They need to add in an option that allows player to save there button configurations; this is very time consuming when friends come over. Better roster. Or should I say, better move-sets.
Capcom is so funny, they give game saying that there will be DLC, then they release the DLC (we pay), then they get the same game out for you to blow your money for half of the same char, Now that's Business.
From now on don't ever buy a game without them saying in it's title Super, Ultimate, Hyper, etc. cuz it's just a rip off.

Hahahaha. Somebody hasn't checked the Lupinko Code in a while. X, Vergil, Asura, Venom, Apoc, and Gambit have nothing hinting at them, and there isn't exactly a good case for Rogue, Doc Oc, or Starforce either.
The only ones we know almost for certain are Wright, Strider, and Red Arremer/Firebrand.

Yeah, there's a good chance that the Asura thing was just promotion, though I think he'd be awesome in it. And Rogue had a few hints that could point at her, but we're not really sure. Right now we're only sure of those three, but it looks like Silver Surfer or Thanos might be next.

..I stopped playing this game a while ago due to the terrible matchmaking you get if you live in the UK. I don't know about others but for ranked and such I was NEVER put with anyone within the UK but rather those in mexico? lol

as quickly I became a fan of capcom with MVC3 I will stop playing their games and go right back to shooters if they pull this feces off. I'm sorry? 12 new characters sounds like a pretty big expansion to me. And they directly compare it to SSF4. Your opinion is based on absolutely nothing. All they say is the name and the fact that there will at least be 12 new characters. They could easily add new modes and all that stuff that Super did.

Let's say that this is true and the Ult. MVC3 is in the works. Now has much as I like MvC3, I can't really ignore it, what is MvC3 biggest complaint? x-factor. Honestly I hope this does happen despite the fact MVC3 was a day one purchase for me, but if they did give the game the SSF4 treatment it would be well worth the money. Plus maybe they'll let gamestop do some sort of special trade in feature to get like 10 bucks off the new game. This has been known for at least 2 months now. Old news. I can't believe people are acting surprised about this, or better yet, angry about it. Capcom is doing this in response to the criticisms recieved from the player community. The game is far too scrub friendly, and hopefully this is why Capcom is basically releasing a major title update to the game. I hope to god they remove x-factor (which they won't capcom loves it for some reason) or at least reverse the damage levels so level 1 does the most, but lasts the shortest, etc. to give actual benefits to using it at any time, and I hope they just remove simple mode altogether, stupid concept, stop catering to lazy people, and tighten the game up altogether, so that you can't just sit and spam cr.A and lead into a 100% combo off it.

The only thing that would make me buy this is if Capcom improved the online play, because Marvel 3's online play is complete garbage. Why isn't it like SSF4's? SSF4's online play, 90 percent of the time, is perfect and plays just like offline(at least on 360). I guess the developer of Marvel 3 and Tatsunoko doesn't care about it's community(online players)

As for the update I think this falls around the "it's too big to do DLC."
You guys do realize that game development takes time and money. They aren't like Blizzard or Bioware where they make a game until it's "finished" finished. They did the best they could and this is what you get.
Since the game still did well they probably had confirmation to do a big update but that requires getting Marvels permission again which means more licensing fees. Most of the assumed characters were probably already in development. Sometimes the devs will toy with possible designs when it's already officially out and it usually gets used in the next game. Or anything unfinished maybe used in the next version.
Just relax people, it's either coming or not but nothing you say will change that.
My only request if they does this is NO MORE XMEN!!! We already have plenty of Xmen lets get creative here. Ms.Marvel, Spider Girl, Venom, Doc Oc, Ghost Rider, Dr.Strange, Luke Cage, Black Panther, Enchantress, Blade, Dare Devil, The Punisher, Iron Fist, Loki, Silver Surfer. There are plenty of other Marvel Hero's to chose from lets make give these guys a chance. As for Capcom that's easy Megaman (X or classic) Frank West, Strider, Akira (Rival Schools), Asura, Jin Saotome.

@156 Actually, I think their deal with Namco only allows for one game, so I'd assume SFxT is probably a safe buy compared to all their other games.
I don't see a problem. An Untimate version taking the place of a conventional Greatest Hits/Platinum version makes great value sense for anyone who hasn't purchased the game in vanilla form.
Yet i only played MVC3 for a couple of days before getting really bored of it. Sorry Capcom but i belong in the minority where i enjoy a prolonged single player experience and MVC 3 did not offer it. Now if you did what WB did with the new Mortal Kombat and offered an extensive story mode and heaps of offline content as well as the new characters and stages then i might, just might be tempted. Otherwise i will just wait for SF X T and hopefully a SF V isn't too far away

HEY WHINERS! guess what? some of us actually like to PLAY fighting games! that's right! so we got our money's worth out of MVC3 because we've played it a sh*tload!
Rather than whining, why don't you just go back to WoW or League of Legends or whatever game you came from?
Because you people complain about every single thing that happens regarding fighting games. That tells me you don't like them.
To be honest the fighting game scene is dying, lack of diversity in the tournament scene and a blatant disregard for fan requests will be the down fall for the fighting game community.
I remember when Sf4 was first released, I found a plethora of videos on Youtube from player "Beef." to random matches.
We have reached a plateau in terms of how many players are joining our scene, I think this is directly related to the poor games CAPCOM have been shipping out.

Aren't you tired of Capcom's greed yet? With every new game that they release these days, they release a new version of it a year or two later. This is getting ridiculous. They did it twice with SF4, they're doing it with Dead Rising, and now they're going to do it with this? Doesn't it make you mad that you're wasting money by buying the "first" game in these instances? Do you ever play vanilla SF4 anymore? No, of course you don't, and now you've got a nice $60 coaster in the form of your MvC3 disc because they've decided to abandon it(After releasing Jill and Shuma of course) so that they can make $40 a pop off of fighting game fans by making them buy the same game again with some fighters and balance changes. Why is nobody questioning these business tactics? I want to hear how Sven and S-Kill are going to spin this.

i say that because the way people talk around here, makes me question if they even play fighting games at all. Im guessing most of the stream monsters don't even play, they just watch and complain about everything.

Capcom did NOT intend to SF IV to be 'consciously defective" whatever the heck that means. They took a risk with trying to bring back SF at a time where the market was almost completely focused on FPSs. It was a lack of budget that didn't allow Capcom to release a more "complete" game. Vanilla SF IV sold by the crap load and then, instead of them just releasing a Platinum or Greatest Hits version of it like most great sellers do they gave us SSF IV which had ENORMOUS content for the price of a Greatest Hits game. Is that reason to complain? Arcade Edition was mostly made to have more content so that the arcade retailers would be interested in it and then they gave us that on both physical and DLC - again they could have jst released a Greatest Hits and thats it.
The entire games market is focusing heavy on overpriced DLC. I can accept Capcom offering pricey costume DLC since no one really needs the damn things and if you are really desperate for a new Chun-Li dress just buy the damn things when prices are way low. Yet for some reason its not so bad that WB is offering DLC characters so soon after MK was released, same goes for BlazBlue.
My point is sometimes we just shout at the wrong ppl IMO. I am happy with all 3 versions of SF and i don't feel i was cheated at all. I felt the costumes where unnecessary so i didnt buy them. Thats it
Now for MVC i don't think they left the game unfinished. Sure, of course they will think of adding more stuff since IT IS POSSIBLE. Why would they let the game franchise die? If you don't want it then don't buy it man.

I will concede the fact that SF4 was a great risk on CAPCOMs part, the problem I have is with the subsequent titles released after SF4.
MVC3, we are all aware of the problems
Balancing and a inferior online experience when comparing it to other games of it's magnitude

I need ken in mvc3, I remeber the day this game came out, I was do hyped basically for no reason cuz the game sucks ass, it was so much hype over the game b4 it hit stores nd wen it did, a big disappointment capcom. I need ken nd some other hot character to hit the game in order for me to regain interest again. With this ultimate mvc3 they better spice it up

I'm not sure what the fuss is about. More content if they might release on disc or DLC (not confirmed) Considering that Shuma and Jill were about $5 a pop, we are supposedly getting a dozen more characters. That would be about $70. I'd rather pay $40 for that content any-day if that is the plan. MVC3 needs to be rehashed or something the I think the majority does not like the X-factor system. But that is my opinion it definitely needs an overhaul of some sort.
I think Capcom is riding the fact the MK are basically putting in all their character from the MK series. Which is a big Kudos to them.
Interestingly enough I only downloaded Jill as she seemed and interesting character. Was never interested in Shuma.
All in all it will be interesting next week at Comic con.
Shuma was for the Tenta-files in Japan and nobody over there used him. Really!
And Jill was way too much a gamble to use with out tons of high level training. Jill is not as brain-less easy as Hulk or Sentinel, Wolverine or Pheonix.
For all the people that say MVC3 got boring after a month means you pretty much just suck. You didn't have enough determination to get better so you quit.
Hmm, the only reason why I have a good amount of hope for Capcom not releasing another disc-based game for mvc3 is because I would think since Ryota Niitsuma will be doing an open Q&A at SDCC, they won't want to announce something that's going to give him a lot of sh!t or hard questions to answer. So I believe the announcement will be one of the following:
A: They will announce new DLC Characters to be released.
B: A DLC update which will include everything that mvc3 is currently "lacking" in terms of characters and the netcode.
C: A new disc-based mvc3 that will be overloaded, tons of new characters, a supreme netcode and more offline features. ( I say this will be the least likely possibility but I would think if they do plan on releasing a new disc-base mvc3, they would have to go above and beyond to release one so early without pissing everyone off).
Just my opinion.
I'm hoping it's B though. But seeing as Ryota Niitsuma will be holding an open Q&A at sdcc, I'm pretty sure that those who still have hope for this game won't be disappointed by whatever the announcement will be.

What this game lacks is backgrounds and breakable environments. It needs an airplane wing to break off or the ground or wall to break during gameplay.
Also, the game needs more boss battles leading toward Galactus such as:
Shadaloo: Balrog, Sagat and Bison.
S.I.N: Vega, Juri and Seth.
Symbiot: Carnage, Venom and Spider Doppleganger.
Hells Kitchen: Electro, Bullseye and the Kingpin.
Age of Apocalypse: Mr. Sinister, Archangel and Acpocalypse.
Onslaught and Juggernaut should be a stand alone character.
Capcom, I know you are reading this. Make this happen.
Again, this game needs playable environments and multiple boss teams.
