Here's a rundown from the Cross Counter team about this episode.
After Shadowloo Showdown 2011 in Australia, Gootecks and Mike Ross took a weeklong diversion to the beautiful country of Singapore. Gootecks and Mike visit the popular Illuma Arcade and VirtuaLand at Bugis Junction, where all the top players go. See the amazing way their arcades are set up for players and spectators alike. Then they visit a 16-man tournament at E2Max. Get an exclusive look at what the fighting game scene is like on the other side of the world! Super impressive! Good job on discovering Singapore, guys, it looks amazing!
why cant we have that in the states? Well, its kinda simple. The consoles are strong enough to give u arcade quality and the operating/play costs are too high. It isnt like the early 90s where u can go with 5-10 bucks in quartes and get a solid amount of game time(regardless of skill lvl). Now u can spend a dollar or more a credit makeing that 10 bucks go like water. Get the priceing under control and arcades will come back.
I wonder how much the arcades in these vids where chargeing .
Awesome episode. WHat people dont realise that other than Japan there is a higher level of play in places like Taiwan, HK and Singapore, arcade scenes there have always been more a part of the culture compared to western countries. Id love to go Singapore too....heard its a really clean place.

They can afford these trips because they are now sponsored by Complexity Gaming.
crosscounter and excellent adventures need to be 1 hour long. they're too good.
Brilliant episode - Singapore looks beautiful, gotta go there some time!
Wow, singapore looks sick! Had no idea. And the speak english like that too? Singapore Wiki!!!
That was amazing, the variety of arcades is fantastic. I like how they have a nice niche that help each other developer their skills. It's not really surprising that they are good though, or that they are a lot better than American players. Asian people in general are rigorous and understand the important of training and learning the engine. I really enjoyed that, good video.
@ Raven. It's not that they are Asian its that they have a great arcade culture. All the countries dominating have great arcade cultures and happen to be in Asia. Same way the best players in USA come from the Arcades although there are a few exceptions like wolfkrone.
singapore is so hype. too bad i couldn't catch mike and ryan here. would've love to speak to them once.
i think in order for arcades to come back into the limelight again arcade operators should follow the nickel nickel pricing model. Nickel nickel is an arcade out in Huntington Beach California, which charges a cover fee of $2.00. And in exchange the most expensive game there is .45 cents (this place uses nickels for their machines). those being DDR ultramix 3 (I think) and the initial D games. Every thing else is below that cost. Plus they have an aisle in the back filled with OG arcade classic, that are free play. The place tends to be a Friday, Saturday night hotspot except in the summer when its packed pretty much every night. That place has been in business for years out surviving arcades that came after it, so they must be doing something right.
@27
the classic games being free to play is just crazy, i would easily drop a quater a pop. I seriously wonder how they do it. THere rent most be dirt cheap.
I knew Singapore was an impressive country, but I didn't know it was that awesome. Damn it looked awesome. I wonder how the food is?
Bugis Junction and Iluma are not the only arcades with AE over here. There are VirtuaLand outlets all over Singapore. Combined number of cabs should total more than 40 in all the arcades. Also, those 8 machines at Bugis Junction hooked up to the screen are actually Vewlix cabinets, so that is an extra plus.
More Mike "The Kingslayer" Ross and his servant Gootecks? I'm in this like glue in my brain.
