Wow... Combofiend's second win against Richard... maybe the ballsiest Dark Phoenix kill ever
Clockwork is so fun to watch with his diverse team, i don't know why anyone would want to nerf phonix
Two things great about the final a) for once a cheap dark phoenix didnt win (they're so boring and cheap now) and b) combofiend got the win he deserves. I got alot of props for combofiend, great player who doesnt go by the books and the fads/gimmicks, is skilled to the high heavens and seems like a geniunely nice and funny guy
Hope combo murders it
Watching Combofiend play marvel is a beautiful thing, his team synergy is just unreal.
#7 I love Combofiend as much as the next guy but She-Hulk and Task are nothing new or out of the ordinary and both are as overused as Phoenix..... If I had to call any of the characters on either team boring it would probably come down to She-hulk

Too great a reward for too little risk. Also despite the diversity of his team, note how he rarely if ever wins when Phoenix dies. Every Phoenix team is more or less boring to watch because it's not so much a team as just "Phoenix and friends," which limits meter and allows for virtually no DHC creativity.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Clock's Doom, but I can tell we're not seeing its full potential because he's holding out on all that meter for Jean.
Clockwork can win the set if he just XF and kill off Combofiend's characters. XF DP is overrated. Tokido proves that use XF to kill off people is a good strategy and DP is without XF is good enough.

last i check that was combofiend first team he debut with, it was new and out the original at first and people was questioning his team make up. Until later on he flesh out the team order and assist usage along with combos and made people realize it works very well. It was him and justin at first sporting the she hulk, so dont hold it against him for seeming to be unoriginal when he was probably the leading cause of tasky and shulk being used so often.

clockwork is capable of building so much meter, dont get why hes so stingy with using some of that meter to kill off potential threats right off the bat. His doom tend to land attacks more often than it should and have the capability of killing off teams with doom alone if he where to tack on some supers instead of babying phoenix.
good to see a combo own phoenix. God i hate phoenix, its crazy how combo fiend is so godlike the first 2 rounds and because of this broken game and x factor level 3, clockwork can win. This is why i dont play this peice of trash.
Honestly, they should just get rid of X-Factor and bring Baroque back.
@9 I agree She-hulk is quite overpicked, although i'd say Taskmaster is about medium in terms of usage, but Spencer? I've personally always seriously doubted his inclusion in the game, until now. Didnt think he could compete at all.
The thing with marvel vs capcom series in tournies is that it seems to always consist of the same three to five characters, look at the evo results each year of mvc2, it consists of practically only sentinel, commando, storm , maybe cyclops and cable, literally. The matches are still great to watch and i know its bring the best team to win the prize etc but i want to see some hidden gems or some high risk high reward type of characters at times.
MVC3 is all about phoenix, waiting till level 5, and as they are getting stomp by normally the better player, dark phoenix rises, x factor is popped and destroys the whole team. So boring, seeing this the ending of nearly every match. It's not even about phoenix skills, just who comes in with xfactor and dark first.
This match was great to watch combofiend take back 3 after losing 2 and defeating the mighty dark phoenix.
But oh well, atleast MVC3 seems to have a more varied selection this time even if it is 90% of the time {?}{?}{phoenix}. The sad thing is mvc2 has like 2 or 3 times the amount of selectables, yet the same 5 were seen over and over and over.
Said it before I'll say it again Combo's team is BEAST! Love the team, it made me pick up Spencer. Never wanted to use the guy cause I never played the game he's from and my usual sparring partner would always pick him. Its funny cause we both play him very differently. Glad to see him KO Dark Phoenix, he made it look easy on screen but I know he was wailing away on the joystick lol.
Also I'd agree that Clock is great as well but I would really like to see these guys give Phoenix a break I mean come on
Good to see Combofiend Taking out phoenix players. Its pretty boring to see how everyone uses phoenix with the same strategy. Combofiend is the one person who inspired me to actually try getting good. I actually use his exact team. Everything I use with the team, I learned from him. The team took me pretty far in a Provincial Tournament.
Props to combofiend! I hope he destroys at EVO.
@14 last I checked Clockwork debute was with the exact team he uses now many didnt and lots still don't use Phoenix because of the health.....They all just complain....So if you can consider Combo orginal for debuting a team, consider Clock the same first good Phoenix I seen in a tourney.......Now u got Viscant, PChamp, Tokido, and Richard They all came after Clockwork
@#23
i never denounced clockwork as not having a original team nor implying it. I mentioned that cause it seemed you was downplaying combofiend character choices as if he was another bandwagoner thats riding the tier list or something. Whether that was your intention or not thats what i gathered from your post wording.
And personally i dont really consider Clockworks team as a just another phoenix team as his doom is his best character and the ONLY person to use doom on point. And at times switches out phoenix for jill but doom always stays. While most other phoenix users tend to juggle around certain assists and point characters while keeping phoenix in.
So i consider both CLock and combofiend having both original teams as i havent seen anyone else that isnt online using the same team builds.
@23
Pretty sure Viscant was rocking Phoenix from day one, just sayin'. We didn't see him on stream until he came up to LA for like, what, the 9th WNF?
Tokido's Phoenix style is original. He just use Phoenix as a backup plan. He doesn't really want to use Dark Phoenix if he doesn't has to. Go watch Tokido's matches. alot of time he has no bar, no DP at the the end of the matches. and alot of time he would burn 3 bars just to kill one characters.
it's very hard to force Tokido to use lvl 3 XF DP. Only high level players like J wong can force out his lvl 3 XF DP. most players can't will take many game to se his lvl 3 XF DP. even EC's best Chris G can't see his lvl 3 xf DP.
I thought the replays would be a black screen or something :P
Let's hope there's no failure next week. All, the commentary and e.t.c shouldn't be missed.
