Special Edition Marvel vs. Capcom 3 pre-orders selling out

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • January 28, 2011 at 12:52 a.m. PST
Special Edition Marvel vs. Capcom 3 pre-orders selling out The Special Edition of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is getting harder to pre-order by the day, and even the regular edition of the game is getting bought up at a solid pace.

The Capcom Store is still taking pre-orders on both versions of the game though, so if still want to get in on this offer, it's a good place to hit.

Christian Svensson left this comment on how things are looking at various outlets right now.

Svensson: GameStop has turned off their preorders last week [for the Special Edition] (having reached their allocation limit) and Amazon [for the] Xbox 360 turned off theirs yesterday for the same reason.

In a couple days, I suspect PlayStation 3 Standard Edition pre-orders will be turned off at Amazon as well.

Tip from Error.

This game is gonna sell out quick...hence, it probably wont be seen on the shelves for a while. Thankfully, my SE copy is already bought and paid for. XD

Glad I got mine in, sucks for those that kept putting it off.

Lol! I actually went to pre-order the SE last week while picking up Mass Effect 2. Unfortunately, by that time Gamestop wasn't taking pre-orders on the SE. That's what I get for procrasting. :(

It's not like walmart or some other store won't have copies of mvc3.Just get it from there or something.

DarkSamus said on January 28, 2011 at 2:39 a.m.

I would just scan through eBay for a copy once its released

Considering PS3/360 games cost $110 here in Australia (Even though the exchange rate is averaging par with the green back these days), using Ebay to import a copy from the USA will save me tonnes.

ie...prob about $80 at most with postage included

DarkSamus said on January 28, 2011 at 2:40 a.m.

Just to add to my above comment...

Even if I can't get it day one, the amount I can save this way makes it worth the wait

SpiceyChicken said on January 28, 2011 at 3:10 a.m.

With 10$ more and all the super nice stuff the special edition gives you, not surprised how fast it's selling out. A special edition for a game these that's actually worth it... Hell the strategy guide even seems to be hype. I'll buy it too if that looks good.

Looks like europe really isn't getting a CE.. Being from Belgium, I still have no idea where I should place my order.... Local stores are going to be too expensive compared to internetprices.... Any other EU people have some tips?

#12
Virtua_Kazama said on January 28, 2011 at 4:53 a.m.

Already pre-ordered the CE and paid it off! All I gotta do is pick it up

Pre Ordered mine weeks ago. Though my gamestop isn't sure if there doing a midnight release >:(

#15
EnkiduV3 said on January 28, 2011 at 5:22 a.m.

Don't forget to use the coupon code THANKYOUTEN when you pre-order from the Capcom Store (Not sure when the code expires, so hurry). 10% and free USPS economy shipping makes the cost of the special edition the same as going to a store and buying the standard edition.

#16
werewolfgold said on January 28, 2011 at 5:27 a.m.

Done and done.

My Gamestop said that they would be doing a midnight release depending on the amount of preorders they get.

Looks like they might be doing a midnight release.

genesiskhan said on January 28, 2011 at 5:30 a.m.

gamestop always does midnight on highprofile games i work there as sga and we doin it since the set date was going on and we got dominoes bringin pizza and we gonna crack open a copy to play after midnight on the tvs and also got mine preorder for both systems im really ready to go cant wait

Biowulf said on January 28, 2011 at 6:26 a.m.

I had the SE pre-ordered from Newegg, but I decided to go with walmart and just get the original version.

Gift card + 10 dollar egiftcard for free means I got it for 38 bucks :)

Plus I have a feeling that Jill and Shuma won't be 5 bucks each.

#19
Sakura said on January 28, 2011 at 6:51 a.m.

^ maybe not...but the Marvel Subscription alone, which I had already planned to try, is worth $10 bucks...

In my situation, I consider the dlc characters free. :)

#20
Teh_5_Point_Ohh said on January 28, 2011 at 6:53 a.m.

I believe Capcom said $10 for each character. Oh their gonna make us pay and they will make a killing off dlc.

#21
badmandan said on January 28, 2011 at 6:59 a.m.

@25 The 5.0,

No. They didn't say that. There is still no official word at all on how much they'll cost, and in fact one could assume less than $10 for both because of how Svensson weasels his way out of answering whether or not they alone will make the CE a good value. Furthermore, the game has, what, 36 dudes already? Not counting any modes or extras at all in the game, characters only, that comes out to around $1.67 each. Obviously they were sorta required to give you a bunch of characters for $60 in the full game, and DLC ones will almost certainly be more expensive than that because they're aren't one big guaranteed purchase, but if you're expecting two characters to be $20... my mind is injured.

#22
thefighter01 said on January 28, 2011 at 7:02 a.m.

its not gonna be ten for dlc its gonna be around $3.99 or $5 and i knew this was gonna happen this game gonna sell like crazy and the new mk i can't fkin wait to finlly get my hands on mvc3 and mk the fightin games that i played when i was a kid are back baby

#23
xShonuffx said on January 28, 2011 at 7:07 a.m.

You know I got it reserved but I gotta see if they are doing a midnight release, if not im going across to street to play and trade and reserving asap today.

Our Gamestop "stopped" doing midnight releases on big games all the time because of robberies. But Play N' Trade is gangsta, they don't care if it gives them a leg up on Gamestop.

@19 its USPS!? ugh, i hate USPS. Last time i ordered SSFIV from Capcom store they sent it via UPS. Well, at least its free, sucks that they dont deliver electronics to my doorstep though.

#31
Superjocke92 said on January 28, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.

Too bad for those who hasn't ordered one yet. They must hurry. Luckily, I've secured a copy for myself and I'll get it on the release. Just three weeks left now, exactly that is.

#32
Catalan said on January 28, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.

bah i want it releae day, but i doubt capcoms economy shipping will have it here then idc what seth says.

#33
Suppi said on January 28, 2011 at 7:39 a.m.

@33 any fightstick will work with MvC3, just be sure to get the fightstick for the console you have lol. Also the chunli stick and the MvC2 stick are basically the same, the chunli one is just a more recent model.

#37
jdigitalseven said on January 28, 2011 at 8:22 a.m.

This same thing happened with the TE fightsticks in '09. May just be Capcom holding back to add hype like the nintendo did with the wii(as well as capcom and their madcatz sticks which are everywhere now). But if you remember the SFIV release, it will be shipped on the US release, date....not necessarily be there on street date. The ONLY place to have copies that tuesday was gamestop.....which bites cause Id rather spend money elsewhere.

#38
Cammystrike said on January 28, 2011 at 8:26 a.m.

Got mine at gamestop, paid for the SE copy back in December.

#39
Gameplan said on January 28, 2011 at 8:44 a.m.

I was gonna get it anyways but MvC3 SE is a great deal, very hard to pass up. I don't care if I receive mine 2 or 3 days after release date, better safe than sorry. :D

For those in Canada still looking for a Xbox 360 SE, Futureshop.ca still has online availability. ($69.99 + free shipping).

The PS3 SE is all sold out though. BestBuy.ca is sold out of both SE's.

#45
Surfer4 said on January 28, 2011 at 10:44 a.m.

yup it's a sales ploy. But anybody think due to it's extremely popular popularity and it's hyped up anticipation from the world, that there's a chance SE versions will be sold out and we're left with shortages temporarily. (like the xbox360 kinect, etc). Therefore skyrocketing it's price past face value. And if it's a limited release (like mvc2 copies at one point), it'll drive the price even further up. doubt this part though, since they want to push as many copies as possible and will produce however much it'll take. Predicting this game will break record sales that's fo sho

I already got it preordered, whew. haha. But I can definitely see it happening! This is one of those titles everybody just HAS to own

#46
DarkBurialX said on January 28, 2011 at 11:04 a.m.

Wow that was fast. I checked amazon, and they sold out xbox 360 mvc3 special edition. At least I preordered the game earlier.

@53 KOF and VF are Dope fighting games, gotta have love for SNK and Sega for those series. However Malda is right, Capcom knows how to get the job done when it comes to fighting games. I personally hope they all do well ;)

#53
dondb said on January 28, 2011 at 6:54 p.m.

I'm gonna wait a few weeks after release to buy. MvC2 wasn't for me and I wanna hear some feedback before I drop $65 on this.

haha and yes this was a nice ploy to scare you into reserving.

#54
EnkiduV3 said on January 28, 2011 at 8:32 p.m.

@35 You can get it shipped UPS, but you have to pay $9+. The promo code gets you 10% off and free shipping if you choose USPS Economy.

You guys can say it's a sales ploy all you want, but the fact is that GameStop has stopped taking reserves on the special edition. I have friends that work at 2 of the GameStop's in my area, and they showed my the e-mail from corporate telling them not to take anymore pre-orders for the SE.
