A showdown spolight article pitting Iron Man against Ryu is up on Marvel.com's website, written again by Sumoslamman. This offers an overview of both fighter's play styles along with their background stories and general info.
Iron Man's Play Style: Iron Man can fight you from a distance using his Unibeam and Repulsor Blast or use his incredible air mobility to get in quick and beat you senseless with his speedy normal attacks. While his launcher lacks horizontal distance, it’s fast so don’t be surprised to find yourself airborne and comboed for big damage when the Armored Avenger is on the screen. Couple that with the fact that after an air combo he can Smart Bomb OTG into his Proton Cannon hyper and you have a very real threat on your hands.
Ryu's Play Style: Ryu can throw Hadokens that cause a TON of hit stun and work from there or get right in his opponent’s face, using his amazing martial abilities to combo his enemies into his Shinku Hadoken hyper for awesome damage. Teach enemies to respect your airspace by Shoryuken-ing them when they jump in and work your Hurricane Kicks into his air combos so you can cancel again, into the Shinku Hadoken. The Marvel heroes must defeat Sheng Long if they hope to stand a chance!
Wait, they chose RYU to go against Iron Man?
Wouldn't Zero be a more appropriate match?
Ryu is going to have more than a few bad mathups in the next game
Yea, im actually struggling to come up with a matchup where ryu has the advantage in this game....maybe arthur?
@MadnessFamilyguile
It's got to be against a Marvel character.
Spider-Man and maybe MODOK (although, I don't know much about the latter, so I may be wrong) are the only ones Ryu could stand a chance against without the Power Creep Power Seep that the gameplay itself provides.
You must defeat Wolverines rush-down to stand a chance.
Wolverine doesn't sleep...
He waits.
Ryu is homeless, But yet he is very powerful.
Iron Man is rich, but has a weakness for women.
I say............ Iron Man!
Simply because...
I AM IRON MAN
Has he lost his mind
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall
Is he live or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
We'll just pass him there
Why should we even care?
He was turned to steel
In the great magnetic field
When he traveled time
For the future of mankind
Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfold
Now the time is here
For Iron Man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved
Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge
Heavy boots of lead
Fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron Man lives again!
Damn. Marvel.com has officially turned the eventhubs comments in to Gamefaqs. Well done.
Ryu is as strong as an Ox, nothing can move him that easily, Ryu could damage Iron Mans suit just as bad as Iron man could fry Ryu. And if Iron Man loses his suit he's pretty much lunch meat.
Ryu is no ordinary man and don't forget his Dark Side that could come out at any time which would make Iron Man crap his metal pants.
You must defeat Shenglong! Hehe, originally I had Iron Man going up against C. Viper.
Hadokens bounce of Iron Man and he can shoot huge-ass lasers from his hands that incinerate flesh
Tony takes the match!!!
In this type of fighter i would say Iron Man > Ryu.
The Capcom and Marvel cast are a perfect match for each other. What people don't seem to understand is that Ryu (along with most of the SF cast) is superhuman. His strength, speed, and endurance is FAR above the levels of a normal human. The same goes for Haggar, Chun Li, and all the other Capcom characters who are being treated like regular people. Who's to say the Shin Shoryuken can't dent Iron Man's armor? Or that the Shinku Hadoken wouldn't do to Tony what another very powerful energy blast would? And as for taking punishment, you have to remember that Ryu has to regularly deal with people setting him on fire (Ken), crippling psychokinetic attacks (Bison), assaults with sharp objects (Vega, Ibuki, and Cody), not to mention taking punches from people that are so powerful that they create tornadoes (Cody again) and kill full grown Indian Elephants (Balrog). There are gods (Amaterasu), demons (Akuma), and powerful robots (Zero). The two sides are perfectly matched. Saying stupid stuff like Hulk>>>Ryu, or Amaterasu>>>>>>>Dormammu gets you nowhere. And that's the fun of these type of dream matches. That you get to play it out yourself. So can't we just have fun with this instead of insulting each other and the characters?
RYU WINS! PERFECT!
