The last video from Tokido's blog is of a Japanese Gen player who goes by the name Ikego.
Tokido added that he feels the Akuma/Yun match up is bad for Akuma, saying it's now his worst overall match, and that he's started playing Fei Long as a counter pick.
Flash is the only Makoto player besides V-ryu I can fully respect, since they were using her before the AE buffs. Combofiend, Momoichi get off the Mak truck and let the people who braved street fighter hell with her cash in on the buffs.
Cammy goes from dive kick pressure in SSF to frame trap madness and even more ridiculous combos.
I'm sorry for losing faith in you, Cammy!
@#3
Combofiend was using Makoto in super as a backup to Guy(lol) after he dropped Abel way . He even wiped her out in a few tournies so not like he on the bandwagon.
I'm glad that makoto and cammy are getting some love.
@2
I agree with you to an extent, but Flash didn't use Makoto in major tournaments because he knew how hard it was. V-ryu is the only person in the world who stuck it out with her even at majors and had decent results.
That said I wouldn't hate on these guys, Combofiends makoto has some nice execution and mixups. I main makoto myself and wish I could pull out kara karakusa on command like he can, it's pretty difficult when you need it to come out in matches.
I just watched these for the heck of it, but I had no idea about Mike Ross untill now. Great Blanka player!
I have been waiting a while to see a cammy adapt to the new tools. Of course it had to be Justin Wong to show other Cammies the way, but I think this will give people a good idea on how she needs to be played in AE, she is not the same. Get over it
Reading the youtube comments all saying blanka is cheap and for scrubs is hilarious by the way. I luv me some youtube comments :)
Spritz......
Makatos karakusa isn't that hard, I hope they didn't make it easier. I don't like it when they make things that are moderately difficult easy just for the people who don't put in the time to learn it originally. :(
It's nice to see a video were Cammy wins in AE. I completely lost all hope in her but I guess I need to try this new style of gameplay. I'll keep playing her but would still like to try something different like Oni as well. We'll see. Makoto seems good as usual. I think that Blanka suits Mike Ross well.
Counter-picking? So he waits to see who the other guy is picking first? That's kinda... lame.
I'd prefer vanilla or super Cammy to AE Cammy even if AE Cammy turned out to be stronger; there's a reason I selected her as a main and I don't know why CAPCOM want to screw with that and upset everyone who liked her as she was.
There are a million and one other things they could have done to balance her (not that she needed it) while keeping her style, but they went the lazy route. Any character can be given frame advantage--my point being you could pick any one of the roster and make them a "frame trapper". It's the special moves that really demark a character and nearly all of hers suck now (which was a problem in vanilla and super as well, but at least she had low strikes).
And no, the videos don't prove anything about viability. You can find videos of Jwong dominating with Makoto in super, but she was weak, as Wong himself admitted.
@#28
They didnt increase the damage on fukiage, all they really did to it was make it easier to land and less chance for it to trade hits.
@26
Get over it man, Cammy changed, cry all you want, that won't change. And her play-style? As in dive kicks all day because they blow up crouch techs and over a huge amount of frame advantage for free? And she was strong in SSF4, she needed some tweaking. Again, get over it.
she always had that option (even in 3s)its just the hitboxes and start up was terrible so it wasnt practical in super as it is now in AE.
She can get about 360 damage with the double fukiage >ex air axe kick instead of grounded ex dash push.( But dont get the best positioning for wake up pressure)
So what you see in that video isnt max damage punish for a simple anti air LOL. And thats for one ex bar, she dont need to pop her super.
She can also juggle into Ultra 2 off the fukiage but havent seen anyone utilize it yet.
yeah you're right but somehow i had seen it maybe once in super, now it just looks like you're gonna eat that every jump in. Or maybe it's just that those are really good players. Makoto is totally not my style, but she takes skill, i have a great deal of respect for those players
@#34 grillo
Yea if you dont know they made the start up faster on all versions of fukiage and her hurtbox from like mid chest up through the extended arm up is basically GONE, so its basically dominant to most jump ins except a few quirky angled attacks that can avoid her hitbox on the punch.
On good/bad thing about it is that it wont hit anyone grounded ever. So just be careful on jumping into a waiting makoto cause you wont win the trade.
Why did they make it so Cammy's Hk Spiral Arrow almost never hits twice? Seems like a really pointless nerf to me.
@ #1
People were saying she didn't need nerfs..not the same thing. It's so sad that there's such a wealth of information posted and yet it goes over the heads of 99.9% of the people who post.
@32: This. After playing AE Cammy I'm getting out of the scrub stage of spamming dive kick all day. I've become more patient as a player.
@36: I think it goes back to the idea of people having to "work a little harder for their wins". Though I dunno if anyone is so broken that they don't have to work at all.
#22
I'm not trying to say they should dumb the game down, but her kara karakusa was hard to pull out as opposed to other characters with similar options like sagats kara uppercut.
If it is infact easier to do in AE not counting her new standing s.lk feint into karakusa then the devs infact feel it shouldn't be such an execution heavy move that is so punishable when whiffed. Plus on that note in super she isn't strong yet she has to work very hard to win and she needs strong execution to be fully utilized, yet there are other characters like Rufus for example who is very straight forward and has easy bnb combos and a good escape move or any other characters with better options and easier move sets. It's really not asking for a lot considering how unsafe that move is to begin with. A great example of a tough but good execution character is Viper, it's hard to use her but it's worth the time when mastered.
With all that said, i'm pretty sure kara karakusa is going to be the same so with that anything I've said is an opinion that's all.
@12 I main Makoto too despite my name, which is kind of funny considering I don't even use Cammy. But anyway I didn't know that Combofiend actually used Makoto seriously before AE, so I just assumed he was just jumping on the bandwagon, since people are starting to say good things about her. Also I never took anything away from Combofiend since his Makoto is quite nasty, I just didn't respect it, not knowing that he already put in the time with her. And I agree with you on kara karakusa their a pain.
Whaaaat? Mike Ross trolling with blanka? Is it wrong that I'm disappointed?
blanka ball gets punished on hit is pretty lame poor blanka
@spiritz
Rufus BnB is one of the hardest BnB in the game, thats why even though hes an incredibly one dimensional, easy to use character (in my opinion) they dont litter online.
And you are entitled to your opinion man, mine is a bit different but thats alright.
@41
I thought the same thing, but then I thought there is no way someone learned Makato that fast and I did a bit of research. And am I missing something about this karakusa? you just gotta do it pretty fast, I dont see why its hard D:
@32: She needed that frame advantage because of her poor throw range and no overhead, which is probably why they transfered that frame advantage over to her normals.
All I'm saying is I don't like the character now, I never said I didn't accept the changes. If by "get over it" you mean change my mind, then no, I won't. I'm either switching if I can find another character that I like to play, or dropping the game completely. There are very few characters that appeal to me, and I _only_ played Cammy in vanilla and super, but there's no reason for me to adapt to a character I don't like anymore.
@#41
You didnt take anything away from combofiend, but without respect what do you have in the end? Poor combofiend tried to do something with her just when it came to tourneys he couldnt get too far with just Guy and makoto.
@#42
Mike ross is debating on maining Blanka or Deejay in AE, wouldnt exactly call it trolling.
@#45
They made it so her way of doing kara karakusa in 3S work effectively in AE
@43
Yeh the game is getting easier for the people that complained about Blanka lol
@46
I feel your pain. The only thing that got me interested where the new characters but its hard to replace a character you've mained since the beginning. As Cammy player I have to admit she looks generic and boring to play now even though she has improve normals.
Ah man Ross would be able to adapt his play style to Blankas quite well, but he is gonna get a rude awakening if he really plans on maining Blanka.
I heard his Deejay was good, even though I haven't seen it. Probably best he goes that-a-way
@43 There are a lot of ways to punish the roll attack from Blanka, even if it does hits. Luckily, I have my strategy guide to know what works well and what doesn't. Too bad I don't play with him as much, but I use him every once in a while.
Nice Cammy play by Justin and I didn't know Mike could play so well with Blanka. Maybe he should pick him up. He was always great with characters that use the piano technique.
To be honest i hate blanka but i think that when an attack hits it shouldnt be able to punish it blanka only has the blanka ball and electricity i mean yeah u should be able to punish on block just not on hit thats my opinion on the matter
shout-outs to, me, for standing next to the guy appearing in the 1st video.
go me.
Well well....AE is turning out MUCH better than I expected. Makoto is godly...
Also, note that Makoto was not bad because she was hard to use...
Viper is hard to use and she was good in SF4. Makoto was bad because her tools sucked monkey balls.
Blanka loses to Dhalsim/Balrog horribly....I don't think Mike Ross is going to enjoy that, lol.
Cammy looks pretty solid, those buffed normals are awesome. I think developers wanted Blanka players to rely more on mix-ups and mind games than his ball....
Even though the move was easily punishable, Blanka in some matches could spam it and just turtle (which is an infuriating match, I know because I play Zangief, lol).
@36
While HK spiral arrow rarely hitting twice is a big nerf, IMO the fact that MK and HK arrows won't keep your opponent in the corner is worse. Cammy players should basically stick to using LK arrows to get habituated to using it and not cornering themselves. Wong cornered himself 4 times in video 1.
@ 26
I agree wholeheartedly. The reason I liked playing her was because she was DIFFERENT. But now, if her main game is about frame traps, there are better characters to use for that.
I don't understand why people are now saying Cammy still looks good when Wong won a match against a mediocre Ibuki player.
Sure she got different combo potential, but other than some fancy links, she looks like crap.
I'm liking Makoto, still hating this poo poo ass series. Good to see her finally where she should have been from the start.
@#33
>She can get about 360 damage with the double fukiage >ex air axe kick instead of grounded ex dash push.( But dont get the best positioning for wake up pressure)
Now that you mention that, I remember the a-cho vids featuring ShiroItachi and he does seem to prefer that combo into ex axe kick instead of doing ex hayate.
@Crispylinks77 - Justin makes just about any random person look mediocre, to be fair.
And people think Cammy needs buffs.
