The spheres around Oni are the prayer beads Akuma usually wears around his neck. At the start of a match his pre-fight intro shows him ripping them off his neck and them floating around him.

I agree that rival battles would be more interesting than these endings... both of them are basically just "grr I'm powerful" without any relation to the plot.

It'd be funny if the rival battle is each other, they come in and do Shun Goku Satsu on each other only to repel it. Then it would be awesome.

As it stands, I'm not convinced that Evil Ryu is canon. His ending shows no sign of him getting turned back, despite the fact that we know he's his normal self after the tournament due to the endings of other characters (like Gouken). Seems pretty random if you ask me.

I'm also surprised nobody's posted to Ono's twitter page to get his comments.

I don't think it is required to fit Evil Ryu into the canon, best to think of him as a "what if" character, if the story had taken a different route.

They could pull an okie doke, and have gouken die again to save ryu from the satsui no hado(thus keeping gouken out the storyline again) and that crater in his chest. So when 3s ryu pops in he knows the denjin hadoken, shin shoryuken(both are the metsu version in sf4) and seems to be pure again.

It could make sense and keep gouken outta 3s story arc.

About Gouki, I read somewhere that those beads are to limit a god's power so he wouldn't accidentally kill a mortal being while on earth.
Oni ripping them off before the fight could make that a fact, though I'm still not sure.
It could also have him relate to Hachiman, the japanese God of Warriors... but that's just a guess on my part.

I'm not sure if Akuma and Oni are the same character. I've got a feeling that Juri will be Akuma's apprentice as she seems to have the same goals as him.

yea i know 3s wasnt the first of the series, but i believe ryu had them 3 moves as super art choices anyways( didnt he have a 2 stock denjin lol)
I didnt mention it cause capcom is redoing 3s for consoles. with so called additional content which im assuming it gonna be story related seeing how they said no gameplay tweaks.

Evil Ryu has always been a non-cannon "What-if" type character, and this is no different. I mean, normal Ryu is still in the game alongside his evil counterpart and there can't be two Ryus now can there?

It's a non-canon "fun" character

*Note* His stance is just like Gouken only a bit higher. His dragon punch is like Goukens ultra 1. Red Eyes...

Seirously, these two are badass, but they are ruining AE with even more shotos. They could have added new characters instead.

Evil Ryu is canon. Oni isn't.

The only time Evil Ryu actually appears in Street Fighter canon is at the end of the first World Warrior tournament. According to the Street Fighter Alpha series, Sagat, the defending champion, crushed Ryu, and then extended his hand to help Ryu up after thinking that he had won. Ryu was so consumed with the desire to win that he gave into the Satsui no Hadou ("Evil Intent" in the American version) and executed a Metsu Shoryuken, scarring Sagat's chest and his pride.

Gouken does not really have to die again in my opinion.. Ryu could have easily seen Gouken use these techniques and spent the time mastering them. Gouken could just go into the mountains or something just to live peaceful and alone. Also maybe IV is the last of evil ryu. Maybe Gouken being there to help him deal with the dark energy, finally sealed it off. Perhaps knowing his master is not dead afterall finally put him at ease. And then Third Strike begins.

Both didn't need to be included. They could've patched the Oni transformation as a super for Akuma instead of having 2 RD.

Anyways, enough of that. I think these two are a welcome addition to the roster. It gives Super a little more FLAVOR if you ask me. The only issue I'm seeing here is if these two become playable at tourneys then will we see them monopolizing character selections? I hope to heavens no.

Now if only they would bring in Rolento and any body else in those two obvious character slots left.. then it would really make my day!

It seems that we most likely wont get this patch until... the remaining characters are unlocked and played with awhile. So maybe somewhere in the spring?

hmm... The endings were, I don't know, eh? Nohting really speacial, and to be honest, I would rather have them be secrect boss characters were you need a code to use them. I think they'll be find, but I don't think they're that big of a deal. But enough beating a dead horse, HOW ABOUT THEM PACKERS! WAHOO!!

However, Oni, aka: Evil Gouken? That I'll take! Looks waaaay more interesting than Evil Ryu. Original looking move set. Could well become a secondary to my Gouken main (hell, maybe even primary). Assuming they're unlocked in the Tokyo arcades soon, I'll go check him out...
