14 page Marvel vs. Capcom 3 preview from 1Up

14 page Marvel vs. Capcom 3 preview from 1Up has a 14 page preview of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, written by IPlayWinner's Haunts. This is a great piece, as it's coming from the perspective of someone who knows fighting games really well, not a casual fan.

The story not only covers the core gameplay elements, but also runs through the characters too and has movie clips to go along with it. Definitely something you should check out. Here's a grab.

Using Assists: Assists are another crucial element of playing MVC3. When choosing a team, try to think about what areas of the screen you're trying to cover, and basically how each character can complement the others. For example, I found Super-Skrull, Chun-Li, and Iron Man to all have pretty solid assists that work well with most teams.

Push Block: In MVC3, while blocking, press A B C simultaneously to create some space between you and the opponent. This is called a Push Block, and is a crucial technique to get down so you aren't completely overwhelmed by attacks when playing aggressive players. Be careful though! If the opponent knows you're trying to push them back out, they can stagger their block strings, catch you trying to push block and punish with a big combo.

what happened to my news tip touting an equally-sized preview on Dirty Minds Gaming? Here's the link:

This guide is terrible it doesn't tell you anything. It's SUPER generalized. It's like saying "This guy has good fireballs"...that doesn't mean anything. Why is it good? What can it be used for? Why is this guide being held as a great read here and on facebook? This is like a summary of summaries on already known info.

@5 It can be used for "pwn"ning people. :P

Dan34 said on January 21, 2011 at 7:13 p.m.

I did not like the preview because you can tell he played with some characters more than others but we don't know who he focused on.

Sakura said on January 21, 2011 at 7:28 p.m.

I don't like the fact that someone got to play the game before me, so I'm going to criticize this preview without any common sense...

@8 Sakura:

Right on. Everyone drank too much of that haterade.

cvs said on January 21, 2011 at 7:49 p.m.

Drunk some orange flavor haterade earlier today actually.

If I see another article talking about how Wesker has the nastiest mix-up game, I'm going to go nuts!

Every video I see with him he plays the role of Balrog's punching bag. I want to see this ninja in action.

Also found Taskmaster's head is just a mask. He pretty much looks like Ken with Ryu-length hair.

Dark_Fantom said on January 21, 2011 at 8:43 p.m.

Lol, funny as hell how this guy plays the game, and writes up a review on what he's learnt only to be criticized. Like Pwn_Star here says it's "super generalized".....OF COURSE IT'S SUPER GENERALIZED HE ONLY PLAYED IT FOR A SHORT TIME!

Pwn_Star said on January 21, 2011 at 9:18 p.m.

I can play the game for 5 minutes and tell you the general tools of the character. We've seen others give lengthy reviews that details move specifics and usage. They'll at least tell us "MOVE A" is good for chipping but has a slow start up or "MOVE B" has a lot of mix up options and lead to BnB. This guy was like "This character has long range stuffs and he's probably pretty good cuz of that. The end". I don't like to hate for no reason...but that's a lazy ass guide.

Nice read...learned some good stuff .

lexity said on January 21, 2011 at 10:16 p.m.

Okay in the article he said he didnt have a movelist so it was hard to learn characters fully.......

so u cant press pause and look at the movelist in versus?

MetroCityPub said on January 21, 2011 at 10:23 p.m.

Pwn_Star, I can hardly call 14 pages of material 'lazy'. You're under a misguided assumption that a guy can give you detailed a strategy guide based on how much he played. On the fact that this game isn't even out yet, I say it is a VERY good preview.

So how about you get this game when it comes out and see YOUR contributions. This game is very young and the rest of the community will do the rest afterward. So yeah, the only thing lazy is your excuse for the hate.

Most of the pages were vid/pictures from existing galleries...Take that out and you have about 20 small paragraphs...Considering they're brief summaries that wouldn't take more than a day. Point is the info provides nothing to grasp about the character.

"It's been said that Dante has the most attacks out of any character in any Capcom fighting game to date, but don't let that scare you off from trying him out. Though he is an advanced character, you can do very well by using his basic attacks. Many of his combos are fairly easy to perform, and he has some pretty straight forward Supers as well.

He is a character where we probably won't understand his full potential or impact on the game for at least a year or two while players figure out all his tricks. Still, even in these early stages he appears to be a very strong character despite the high learning curve. "

What did we even learn about Dante besides he has a lot of moves...and...umm..he's good? I still dont know anything about the character from this. He could at least point out him being rush down, projectile heavy, or some gimick that seems to part of his strategy,

JustEddie said on January 22, 2011 at 1:48 a.m.

@20 Lol, wait for the strategy guide or to get your hands on the game if you want all that. It's not fair to criticize that much for a quick preview of an incomplete build of the game. That wasn't what he set out to do. How could he do that for every single character in his allotted time with the demo. He wasn't entitled to that disc indefinitely.

Sakura said on January 22, 2011 at 4:24 a.m.

"Considering they're brief summaries that wouldn't take more than a day."

I love how you assume he's been playing it for weeks...

MadnessFamilyguile said on January 22, 2011 at 5:19 a.m.

Ok so...if the character is so complex that he'd take years to figure out, how exactly do you expect him to inform you about him in like the 5 minutes he played him?/ What do you want him to say?

If he has sooo many moves, why couldn't he have a style that adapts? WTF. What he's supposed to just use one move, confirm rushdown, and call it a day?

I learned abit from that, i was thankful. Why is storm still broken? It's like vanilla ryu in that they made a character that's equally untouchable at about every aspect of the game.....they better tone her down, atleast they got magneto.

Take a look at an oldschool random crazyness fighter with great super powers that was out about the time these VS games originated.

gtfopanda said on January 22, 2011 at 7:13 a.m.

I don't know anything about MvC, but from a "14 page preview" was expeting something better than a couple of approssimate impressions of each character...

badmandan said on January 22, 2011 at 8:10 a.m.

I was expecting it a bit more in-depth with 14 pages, but... looking at it, it was clearly written for people that weren't... uhh... us. Y'know, people that don't read eventhubs and shoryuken looking for every little detail. It's a nice article to catch people that're interested but not reading absolutely everything about the game up to speed, and I think it does that extraordinarily well.

joker101 said on January 22, 2011 at 9:44 a.m.

If Pwn_Star could stop talking, we'd all be better off.

Considering the number of people who don't play fighting games vastly outnumber those who do follow this stuff, it was very well-written.

umad said on January 22, 2011 at 12:25 p.m.

it wasn't the final game. it was just a previous build that he played and probably didn't have a move list. some moves aren't even going to have the same properties.
