2nd overview of alt. costumes in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 from Chris Baker

Marvel's Chris Baker has posted the second installment of his series looking at the alternative costume colors for some of Marvel vs. Capcom 3's cast members. This doesn't cover any of the Capcom fighters, though.

This story also has images to give you a better idea of what the designers were aiming for, here's a grab.

I don't know about you, but early '90s Jean Grey drawn by Jim Lee is my Jean Grey. Obviously, the difference in model made this one impossible, but we were still able to get a look that speaks to Jean in blue and gold.

Interesting side note: Though I literally looked through hundreds—maybe thousands—of pages of comics to find different possibilities for Phoenix, I somehow completely overlooked Chris Claremont's X-Men Forever, and Jean's look there. I did thumb through an issue just a few weeks ago, however, and hey, wouldn't you know it... This costume is almost exactly the same! So, officially speaking, this alternate is a 1990s homage… despite actually being closer to a current comic (that's written as though it were still in '90s continuity).

I am glad that Marvel was heavily involved with the alts...... becuz we know that Cap would have totally dropped the ball on this one.... esp with the Marvel folk....

The game needs a DLC costume pack where everyone has a 5th "Mango" variation. I would pay good money to see it. Make it happen Capcom.

i don't know but the blue and gold Jean could've been done a lot better. It's just a lazy recolor.

What exactly were you expecting? They're not going to make a brand new model just for one costume. Detailed skins with connections to past costumes is what we've been getting this whole time.

The alts look great, but Storm's classic look might be better had they made everything other than her head white. I don't see how that would have required a different model.

I'm loving the white/gold and the blue/gold Phoenix.

Blue/gold is so 90s X-Men cartoon Jean Grey, I love it. White/gold, I just love the contrast.

This is great I'll be able to play as "White Phoenix Of The Crown" I wish Capcom make her stage too "The White Hot Room" the home to all of the Phoenix Force hosts.

The fact that alt. costumes are not actually "alternate" but just mere color changes is a real turn-down. They should have been actual alt, costumes like SSF4...
